Went pretty smooth. I called him to make an appointment, and he informed me what supplies I would need to get. He and his wife arrived at the time they said they would and provided services I paid him to do, all the while being very polite, professional, and personable. All in all, I believe it took about an hour.

Daniel and his wife Renee work as a team. They did a full days work for me for one set price. I had a list of things I needed done and they did all of those plus pointed out some things I should have had on my list but had missed and failed to include. That was nice of them because I would have realized my oversight at a later date, this way it was all done in one day and at one time. I was working in my home office all day and they both worked quickly and quietly so that I was not disturbed or interupted any more than necessary. They did exactly what I needed to have done and I was happy with the results. I feel like I got my money's worth.

the laminate in question was poorly installed to begin with....at your (husbands) suggestion i aggreed to use liquid nails (construction adhesive) which they had purchased prior to initial contact with me...i indicated that this is a "test" and i was not sure if it would hold...it did not..and i have not returned to this home....as i said i would return when i do a project on the west side....to date i have not done any work in west elpaso and i cannot control the flow of the work....i never said i would not return.....i dont understand how $500.00 was attributed in cost to my "credit" as i have recieved nothing since the initial REPAIRS....nor do i understand how my score "other than preaggreed upon" routing...is bad...as i have done nothing yet...my prices are low because i am efficient in my routing...had they offered an additional incentive to make a dedicated trip for a single item repair i would have gladly scheduled the "repair"....please see the initial posting where they were happy with the work other than the "laminite" issue....shalom

He was a contractor for Sam's Club. I would have taken 8 years to install it because it came in a gazilion parts. He and his wife came. It was a very cold blustery day outside. They did a completely competent job. It was very complicated. They studied the diagram and did everything absolutely correctly. He left his card. I have a home repair coming up that I am going to call him about. He really knows what he is doing. Especially anything concerned with construction, assembly or installation. I would be more than willing to call him again. I probably will in a couple of months to do a repair to our closet.

As an Army wife whose husband is deployed, I am very careful about who I let in my home. I was confident that Daniel and his wife would be professional and handle my projects quickly and for a reasonable price and they certainly did not disappoint. However, I did not expect to find them so delightful to chat with! I highly recommend the Mejias for any project you might have; they are professional, punctual (even though Daniel helped fight a garage fire on the way to my house) and simply wonderful people. They deserve an A+ rating!

When I first called Daniel he spent 5 or 10 minutes explaining how he and his wife work. He explained: 1. What type of work they could perform 2. There schedule and when they could arrive on site 3. Little background on himself and wife 4. Price they charge to perform work (very reasonable at $25 per hour) Before I hired him to do the job I had a little information on their background, their time schedule, the cost and was very pleased to get that all out front. Danie, throughout the job made recommendation and gave tips on the home and repairs (which were very good tips). If Daniel spent time talking to you he did not bill you for the conversation only for time worked performed. He was at my home for 5 1/2 hours and only charged $100. He was very helpful and helped identify the switches on my fuse box (identified which switch went to which room in the house...Now I have my fusebox labeled). I would highly recommend Daniel for Home repairs and more. I have put his number in my cell for quick reference when I need help or if a friend needs help. Daniel is very dependable and reliable....
Description of Work: Daniel was very professional and knowledgable about home repair. I had 2 jobs that needed work: 1. Door Jam Replacement - Daniel had all the necessary tools to complete the job. He replaced a door jam to my master bedroom to include the storm door. 2. Electrical Short - I had an electrical short in my kitchen and living room area. There were 3 outlets and 3 light switches that were not working properly. The problem was the lights would go out for days and miraculously come back on days later. Daniel diagnosed the problem as a loose wire. He began by checking the main fuse box and working backwards to the outlets and light switches that did not work. Once he tracked the outlet that was closest to the main fuse box and opened an outlet that was working and feeding the outlet that was not working. He moved the wires in the outlet that was working and all the kitchen and living room lights came on. Although we were not sure exactly where the loose wire or short was...we figuresd it had something to do with the live out. My lights are working, Daniel recommended a electrical company come in and check all my lines. I will be doing that shortly, but for now all my lights work.

I got him off of Angie's List. He said that it was usually he and his wife, but his wife had gone out of town and it was he who came by to do the job. I had bought some appliances. He did a really good job. The stove, microwave, dishwasher and the refrigerator were all stainless steel. He took his time. He made sure I had manuals from all the appliances and showed me how he was going to do it. I had an agreement with what his plans were and how he was hooking it up. He was punctual and showed up when he was supposed to. He was very professional with his work. I was really pleased with his work. I would definitely use him again in the future.
Description of Work: I used the services of Daniel Mejia “Handyman” about 3 months ago. I had an electric stove, but I bought a gas stove and the gas line was in the wall so he had to make a hole in the wall to get to the gas line. He fixed everything, re-dry walled and painted it. I bought a microwave as well and he ran the electric line to the microwave. The microwave went on top of the stove because it was the exhaust. He installed a new dishwasher and plugged in a new refrigerator and hooked up the ice dispenser too.

I had to find someone new and had just wasted several days I did not have. I do not know, if he didn't know how to do the things on my list: (hang an inside door and replace molding and door jam on another door). Perhaps there was a bigger job he had been offered. I know there are always two sides to a story, but I hope my next experience with Angie's List will be better.
Description of Work: Was pleasant on phone. Before looking at the projects he said the price would be a flat $300 (for his wife & himself, to work 6 hours each). Came out to look at projects that needed to be done. He had asked that I make 2 lists: one with projects & one with supplies that I would need to pick up. To make sure they would have enough to do, in the time they would spend here, he suggested I write a long list, and he would do as many things on that list in the time allowed. We scheduled date for work that coming Friday. Was under deadline to have work completed to have tenant move in by 6-1-11. He called the day before work was to be done, & cancelled the job.

Overall I was pleased with the work. Everything on my list was accomplished. The price discussed was paid. He and his assistant (wife) were on time and were both friendly and easy to talk to. I enjoyed watching them work, they asked questions about what I wanted and other suggestions that I might not have thought of. My list of work was minor and not of a professional nature, like cement work. He did tell me he would not tackle that job. I appreciate his honesty. He has his own way of working, did not do one job first, another one next etc... He did complete what I needed done. I will get another list together and call on him again when I need small stuff accomplished.
Description of Work: He caulked the windows from the outside, installed outside lights (front porch, back porch, side of house & over the garage), cut down a large cactus by driveway, pulled out one by window, trimmed bushes on side of house and in back yard, painted patio furniture, and replaced 2 screens on windows. He cleaned up well after each job. He left me the extra caulking I bought that was not used. Most of the bush trimmings were bagged for pick up.

One Palm tree was trimmed as stated but the other two were not. My cousin had to get angry for Mr. Mejia to stay and at least trim the other two Palms that were supposed to have been done within the 6 hours as stated. By the way, his saw or chain broke. He does not have the professional tools to do the job as is required. He is a nice man, hard worker, but does not do as he is contracted. We corrected that he came in on time to give his estimate on Saturday the 12th of March. Then he arrived at the address on Friday March the 18th on time.
Description of Work: Mr. Mejia answered the call and arrived to the address provided a week before on Saturday. He gave an estimation of how many hours it would take to trim 3 palm trees. He was told that all my cousin had was $300.00 and no more. He looked at the palms and stated first that it would take an hour a palm then changed his mind that it might take 2 hours a palm, totaling 6 hours. He asked if there were any other jobs that needed to be done since he would work 8 hours and for my cousin to make a list. However, the list would not be guaranteed , since the palms were the job needed to be done. She really thought she was getting a blessed deal! The list was made and when he arrived to do the work as, stated, on Friday, along with his wife, he began to trim the firs palm. His wife however, worked on the list while he did the palm. They were fed and to my cousins surprise after a little while, they began to pack up. Since my cousin was working along with them, she quickly asked if they were not going to finish the other two palms. Mr. Mejia stated that they were out of time as they had stated they would work a total of 8 hours. My cousin then said that the 8 hours were not up. How could they have arrived at 8:00am and be leaving at 2:00pm . Mr. Mejia then answered that if she had noticed in the web advertisement, that they are man hours not hours in the day. That meant that he would work 4 hours and his wife the same four that equaled to 8 man hours. She reminded him that he had looked at the Palms and had stated the work would be $300.00 and six hours for the trimming of the three Palms, not one. She informed him that he had been recommended and had no idea what the web stated. She further stated that he had stated it would take 2 hours a palm and he had only trimmed one. As she was furious, he stayed longer to trim the other two palms and left all the trimmings on the sidewalk between the palms. My cousin helped them load up the truck for the trimmings on the 1st palm, but, unfairly, was left with the other branches etc.. She also had helped them take the branches of the 1st palm to the dump. Since the other palms had not been trimmed, there were no more loads that could be taken because the dump was closed (according to Mrs. Mejia). Mr. Mejia worked hard, but, did not live up to the spoken contract of doing all the palms. His wife should have been helping him with what Mr. Mejia was contracted to do and not the extra that was not guaranteed. My cousin, a woman, was not supposed to have worked along with them as she was the one paying to have the work done, but she did. I had not understood why they had not done the three palms as that was the work that needed to be done and not the extra that Mr. Mejia had asked for. I drove to my cousins house and took pictures of the mess that was left behind. I am in agreement that Mr. Mejia worked hard, but, he did not professionally estimate the amount of time and money that the job would take and therefore, did not do a professional job. I made several calls trying to reach Mr. Mejia but he was not reachable when I called. I left my telephone with the instructions that he could call me on Monday, he tried to reach me on Saturday, when I was helping my cousin load up the mess to the take it to the "dump." He did not call on Monday. I was the one recommending him for the job and had never heard of man hours nor did I notice it in his advertisement. Pieces of the Palms are still falling as they were not trimmed correctly. I am glad that we can comment on the service provided so that others will see what kind of work the companies we choose do (especially the grading system). So NO we will not be using Mr. Mejia and his wife for any further yard work etc.

with regard to the the chain saw, all tools need to be serviced, usually on site, the chain saw worked until it jumped the chain about 0300 in the afternoon.....which required a mandatory re tasking of work to accomplish the ultimate. goal.. , The cousin showed me a wood chipper that was to be used on site to dispose of the palm branches, therefore eliminating any need to take any material to the citizens collection center or dump.....Three full trailer loads of material were collected, loaded and hauled away to the dump on the work.. day....due to the fact that the wood chipper was not functional and needed further servicing,(in this case the rebuilding of the carburetor on a briggs and stratton engine.) this extra time disposing works against the pruning time allotted for the project and changed the whole dynamic of the project.....I always indicate that i allocate TIME (12 man hours) to the project, not necessarily project completion. for $XX.XX.....If i could guess and foretell the future i would be rich and not need to work in real time required and deal with people that only hear what they want to hear.. It seemed perfectly clear to me that the cousin that contacted me was well aware of my terms to . come a perform the palm tree service on a time /material basis and not on a project completion basis.... The whole event began to deteriorate about the time that mini agreements relative to time remaining for the day and work performed that the cursing began to accuse me of misrepresenting my labor dedicated to the project.... I did not work for Member the person that is acting as a third party intermediary and who wrote this post ..... Member was not there nor have i talked with her or met her...Member posted this post based on third party hearsay..from her cousin. ... the cousin was required to go to the dump to present her drivers license and water bill to the managing authorities,,,,,the trash came from her property, i just hauled it for her.....I cannot enter the dump site with other trash than my own personal trash....There was also extra trash not related to the project that was taken to the dump site at the request of the cousin. re, the cousin working on her own property....I never requested help from the cousin, and it is not my position to ask anyone what they are doing on there own property... there were no extra charges made on that day. the cousin again must have been hard of hearing... I only suggested another time period to come back another day,,,,, BE ADVISED I WILL NOT EVER WORK FOR THIS PARTY EVER AGAIN

Nice man and wife. If you hire them understand that 12 hours is for Mr. and Mrs, each working 6 hours. They are on time but will leave exactly at the 6 hour mark. He can do more work than she does for the time and amount spent per hour but I think overall over priced. I hesitated to write a review but its snowing today and I am angry that my doors do not have weatherstripping as I had contracted for him to do. I have been busy with a sick daughter so I have not had time to take care of this. That is why I hired a handyman, to help with what I could not get to. So today I have snow piled inside my french doors!
Description of Work: replaced hinge on oven door (done well) removed and replaced some door weatherstripping - left a lot of incomplete work. Trash of old weatherstripping left on my kitchen floor, new weatherstripping not installed. As soon as time was up, he left leaving doors without any weatherstripping and me to finish the job he communicated he would finish. Cleaned area run - thought he had carpet cleaner but instead took rug out to driveway and used a power washer. When time was up, he started to leave with my rug on my driveway and me to move it back into my dining room alone. Painted scratched doors but they should have had some light sainding first since they were from dog scratches. Overall too expensive and did not communicate well about what he could and would do and time allotment. Tired to sell me on doing too much and so I purchased a lot of material that was not used due to time.

after i suggested pressure washing the area rug ( she also said it was of mininum value to her) she agreed to pressure washing the rug. The rug was not left outside at the end of the day. i dont recall exactly how many doors,12 if memory serves, had the old weather strip removed, sized and fitted. Julie was given the option of us sanding the doors or to just touch them up. I would have gladly sanded the doors, which can take considerable amount of time. The doors were damaged by large dogs scratching and gouging the doors. Julie agreed to the touch up. no mention of repairs in the bathroom was made on this commentary. no mention of a make shift, functioning repair to her non funcioning ignitor on the kitchen stove.... she was extatic for the cost saver.....

Initially informed me that he was available only Fri and Saturday, as he was going to start another job on Monday. He and assistant worked Fri, removed paneling in den and then was scatter-brained and going on to assign himself other tasks that were not initially assigned and failed to stay focused on the initial assignements. Worked all day the first day, and I checked in over the course of the day (I'm not living there now) and the assistant was beginning on removing the paneling from the dining area in the morning. By later afternoon, she was still in the same place in the dining area. They left Friday, didn't show up Saturday, so I removed the paneling in the den. It took me all of TWENTY MINUTES. He showed up on Sunday for about two hours and removed some of the solar panels, broken glass left on the grass, debris left on the roof. Trash and debris left everywhere, scattered about, in contrast to the wood floor tech and the painter, who, although they were not finished and would continue to return for several weeks, clean up everyday and are extremely organized and clean. I was lied to. I can let pass a lot of things, but once you lie to me, that's it, it is over. I not so much upset at Mejia and his assistant, I'm upset at myself for not going with my instincts when I first me him. I knew something wasn't right. He charges $300.00 for a day and $180.00 for half a day. I didn't quarrel with him about the charges as I just wanted to be rid of him. If a man is not reliable, he is not worth having around. I cannot recommend him. In fact, truth be known, most of the services available or accessed through Angie's list have not been very good, in my experience. This was no exception.

what is not mentioned about the panel removal is that great care was exercsised in the removal of the trim,(expensive) in order to have is available for future painting, use etc....thursday i positioned my trailer on site for garbage disposal and was removed on sunday after other material was hauled off without consulting me as to the the nature of material that was left outside, staged, (for loading purposes). His wife was concerned about having an electrical 220 outlet repositioned to another wall. we discussed the options and i heard nothing else on the matter. She also asked to remove a 40' section of gas line that was feeding the fireplace. work performed satisfactorily....she asked me to remove and dispose of a light fixture from the living room. done. what is not mentioned is that i also removed a large bar 9' long by 2' 6" wide by 40 high, work accomplished without collateral damage.. two wall shelves, fixed to the wall were removed without collateral damage..... another cabiner with sink , (including removal of associated plumbing ) was removed without collateral damage....paneling in converted garage was also removed without collateral damage. all hardware associated with any electical, drapes, door hardware etc, was miticulously removed and stored for future reinstallment..... solar water heater , three 3 x 8 foot panels and associated materials were removed from the roof and disposed of. i figure about 20 hours of labor went into this small project, which is probably why he paid me without any hesitation.... ps notice how he is not happy with any of angies list people, pps i had not finished my work when he said we were not to return to trim a bush that was growing into the house , he never commented and said he was dissatisfied with any of the progress that was accomplised during the project, the member was also informed that though i was available on saturday i also told him that i prefer not to work on SHABBAT and opted to work on sunday which i did,,,, the member did not notice or comment on that i had help from my brother and his friend in order to remove the large bar. ( considerable heavy) to expedite the neatness factor and disposal factor...i also had help on sunday with the lowering of the solar panel from the roof (safety issues) he got a pretty good deal for the amount of work actually accomplised. he even got the gas line capped properly when this was not a part of the original project.. and yes i did not finish removing the wall paper in the bathroom.....maybe i was scatterbrained......the member not recognizing the method of MY madness .

It went well. My lights function properly. Daniel and his wife arrived right on time and finished after I went to work. I was happy to get home to completed work.
Description of Work: Daniel and his wife installed two new light fixtures and fixed a third. I had lost hope that the third fixture would ever work properly and that it was a dud. Daniel was able to apply a simple fix that caused the fixture to work. He also re-attached the soap dish in the bathroom and snaked the pipes. It is nice to be able to shower without water up to your ankles.
