Work went well. After the workers left the job site, I found the repairs had not been painted. I requested the contractor return and paint the area repaired which was done. I called the contractor again, because I wanted additional repairs done to the garage. After two calls an estimator finally came out, but we were never given an estimate. I figured they weren't interested.
Description of Work: The contractor repaired the chimney enclosure. Replaced sheetrock with cement board.

I must apologize for a previous evaluation that I entered on this provider. I had stated that the provider failed to contact me after several calls when in fact the provider did call me back after a few calls and we had established an appointment for the provider to come to my home and develop an estimate of work and costs. I had confused this vendor with another vendor that I had attempted to contact. I apologize to this provider and to anyone reading the previous review that I entered

They called me back and we setup an appt. for the following week for them to come out and take a look at what I had. When they arrived, they said they didn't know I wanted to refurbish my cabinets and were expecting to give me a quote to replace them. I really didn't understand as I did mention I didn't want to spend the higher cost of replacing them on the initial call, but nonetheless, we setup another appt. a week later to have someone else they work with from Juarez come out and take a look at them. When the rep. from their affiliate in Juarez came out a week later, he performed measurements and showed examples of his work. They said they would get back to me with an estimate. A week or so later, CSS called me back and wanted to send another person out to take a look and measure. At this point, I told them I was going with someone else. Seemed to be somewhat disorganized and not understanding what I was really looking for, but all they reps. were very personable. Member update: I have to disagree that I was not clear in my initial phone call. I specifically stated the owner of the home, my friend, wanted re-facing or re-furbishing as he already had quotes elsewhere for new cabinets and he did not want to spend that much money. Cabinet re-facing/re-furbishing was the listing I searched under Angie's List, and CSS Construction was displayed under this category. I agree I was not there during your first appt. with my friend, but I was there the second time when you accompanied your sub-contractor from Juarez. Lastly, requesting the second appt. after going thru one already just seemed to us to be a waste of time. I am sorry, but I stand by what I wrote.

(member name) called CSS saying he was making an appt for his friend in regards to his cabinets. This is the only time CSS ever had a conversation with (member name). Once the inspection took place CSS dealt and called the person living at that address. Going into this appt I only knew it regarded cabinets. The occupant said he wanted new cabinets and countertops. The original subcontractor who is new to CSS quote was way out of line and didn't even include the countertops. As a professional I had my second sub call the occupant whom has never called CSS back. How can a complaint be written when you haven't even received the quote. Again, the occupant is the only person who told me what he actually wanted done to the cabinets, which was replacement. It was my call to send a different sub to quote this job. I did it because I personally would have never paid the first quotes price. (member name) you weren't there during any of the occupants conversations and the occupant asked for replacement not refurbishing. That is exactly what my company was going to quote the occupant. If this is your home then that should have been said in the initial call and it was not. Otherwise; the quote would have been sent to you. Due to the fact the occupant has never returned the second subs phone calls none of us know the amount for replacement. All I ask is that you get the facts straight before giving negative feedback. Thank you, Lisa

I meet with Ted Moore and reviewed the project. He informed me that they sub contract that type of work. The sub contractor came by and a couple of weeks later I got an estimate. The estimate was too high.

Thank you [member name removed] for contacting us. Our subcontractor that does stucco is very busy working in and out of town. We use him because of his outstanding work and fair prices. It does take some time for him to get prices for our projects but CSS feel he's worth the wait!! Again, thank you [member name removed] for the opportunity to serve you.

It took awhile to get an estimate and for the one who did the repair to come and do it. This wasn't the fault of CSS Construction. The first person they had assigned the job to didn't show up so they found someone else who came promptly and did a very good job.

It was okay I'm not thrilled with it. We have not had any rain to see how the gutters are working. I think they are a little over priced for the work that they did. They did not paint the new gutters and I had the paint for them to use. So now I have to paint the new hardware myself. They do a good job but I think they could have finished up the job by painting the new hardware to match my home.

This did not go well. When they came out they were professional and seemed to pay attention but they did not seem to be as thorough as we had hoped. We discussed the water leaking issue and my husband was quite surprised to find that they did not try water testing at all to determine where the water was coming in from. There has been a good bit of concern over whether this is coming in under the walls or from the roof. They did not look at the roof at all, but instead quickly determined it was the base of the walls and quoted a course of action for the repair and stated that we would receive the details in an email. Next we moved into the house and looked at the master bathroom windows, both the loose glass block window and the broken framed clear glass window. I mentioned the vent light and heard a somewhat dismissive, "yeah we can do that." Lastly we moved onto the kitchen where I asked them about whether or not we could remove the one wall. It is a load bearing wall so we need to have this done professionally. The kitchen is clearly in the middle of a remodel with no flooring down and most of the cabinets stacked on one wall. I stated that we are in the process of putting in the new tile floors but wanted to find out about removing the wall just to see if it is possible economically. They began measuring the kitchen walls but I was talking with one of the other members of this company and just assumed this had something to do with what would have to be done to brace the load bearing wall once it was removed. Anyway, the information we received back made it clear that very little I said was actually heard. For some absolutely bizarre reason, I received a quote to remodel our cabinets and counter tops with the same type of laminate that is on them now. Why would we do that??? And, nothing about the windows in the master bathroom, nothing about the vent light and nothing about removing the wall and nothing about the WATER LEAKS which is why I called them in the first place! The email I received this morning, made it clear that I will need to find another contractor. To me; The drainage system was going to be $2500, which we discussed that day. This includes: labor and material. CSS will dig a trench along the left side of the house and along the front of home where the water keeps seeping in. CSS will apply biqueen along home down to trench, which makes a moisture barrier. The window in your bathroom is $575 for material and labor. Please let me know which other window your referring to because that day only one was pointed out. An exhaust fan would cost $750, which includes electrical, roof penetration and exhaust fan. I hope this clears things up. My dad had sent the estimate to you. Sincerely, My response: After running water along the roofline and along the base of the house, it has been determined that it's not coming from the base of the house so this will be something we'll take care of when we redo the landscaping layout, but won't be part of the water solution at present. I'm still confused as to how we ended up with a kitchen remodel estimate at all, but I appreciate the numbers below. No further information will be needed. Thank you,
Description of Work: This company came out to give us estimates on several types of work on our home. 1) We are having a water issue where we are taking some water in the dining room and living room of our home when it rains. 2) I asked them to look at a kitchen wall that I want to remove so that my husband and I can continue our kitchen remodel. 3) Asked them look at a glass block window and a regular glass window in our master bathroom that need replacement. 4) Lastly we have a vent-light that we purchased that we need to have installed.

Response from CSS Construction
In response to the Customer's comments: CSS was called out for a problem of water leaking into the living area. CSS has over 37 years of experience with all types of construction. In our professional opinion, it is surface water coming in-as CSS was told by customer her roof had been checked and that it was not coming in from paraphet or roof. If it was coming from the roof there would have been water marks coming from the ceiling down wall. There were not any in the interior nor exterior walls. Also, interior walls would be damp. Next, CSS inspected exterior of home. There were several areas that stucco needed repairs; however, customer said she was in the process of doing so. CSS explained the french drain system, along with the use of bisqueen. A price was mentioned out loud. Customer remarked that her husband would not want to pay that kind of money. On backside of home, customer mentioned that neighbors could see into her bathroom and the block window could easily be moved with the touch of a hand. CSS was never invited into the interior of the bathroom and an exhaust fan was never mentioned until customer wrote about it in an email. Price was mentioned in regards to the windows that same day. Client then referred CSS to her kitchen area. She wanted to eventually extend cabinets into the den area and wanted a header across to open up the area. The reason a quote was given with new countertops is because the formica usually can not be matched. This customer wanted to know a price for future remodeling so an estimate was provided to her. Prices were given for all that the Customer asked for on that day, except the kitchen. That is why CSS sent one in regards to kitchen. Customer was getting quotes from several contractors, which is normal. What was unusual, is the customer kept asking for pricing right then, but would comment that her husband would think that was too much money to spend. Also, there were many DIY(Do It Yourself) projects going on in the home from ceramic tile, painting and stucco. CSS was more than willing to do the work, but she never mentioned wanting us to do so. Sorry for the misunderstanding. CSS strives to make it's customers happy. The Customer found us on Angie's List due to the positive remarks and great work performed by our company. Hopefully she will find a contractor that is able to perform the repairs to her satisfaction.

There was only one mistake and Mr. Moore had his crew fix the problem. My family and I are very happy with the results.
Description of Work: Ted Moore, the owner of CSS, restored my parents home after it had been flooded. His crews were professional and punctual. My family and I are satisfied. In fact, Mr. Moore went the extra mile to make sure I was happy with his company's work. Two bathrooms were retiled -- the shower, bath and floor. New fixtures were installed. Carpeting was replaced throughout the house. The front door was replaced and cabinets were varnished and brought back to life.

Responded promptly to initial call and they came out and did an estimate write up. Within a couple of hours I had the estimate write up on the computer. Called and set up an appointment. First appointment had to be reset due to worker being tasked out for another project. Rescheduled for the following week. The owners and workers showed up on time and workers were briefed on work to be done. Work was completed withing 3 hours. Owners came out the following day and inspected the work. Payment was made in full. Only thing I was concerned about, was that they never gave me a receipt saying work was paid for. Had to call them back up to request a receipt. I didn't want any problems in the future saying I did not pay.

They were able to start the work within a week of us accepting their quote. They gave us a quote for a little under $10000 for the job. They were a little slow in getting the estimate back to us, but he was able to come a little earlier than his original appointment which was great. He called ahead and showed up on time. They are punctual and clean up after themselves. They are relatively expensive and they seem to be fairly fast. They appear to be doing a good job at this point.

Owner and painting supervisor came to home to measure and get full details of scope of work. They promptly provided a very detailed estimate. When they were awarded the job, because I was unsure of exact colors, they purchased a few sample colors I requested and painted numerous swatches on the back of house. When colors were confirmed they began work within the week, as agreed. The painting supervisor and 2 or 3 painters performed the work daily (except Sunday) in about a week and a half. They were prompt, very neat, quiet, very skilled and cleaned up after themselves daily. All workers were very personable and the supervisor, Roy was particularly responsive and friendly. The owner was in contact with us almost daily and inspected the job every other day at least. He provided a punch list and walked the house with us after completion to review all aspects of the contract. A few very small adjustments/fixes were needed and they were completed within a day. Throughout the job, when doors had to be left open for a drying period, they were very helpful in accommodating our dogs and keeping them safe. We were extremely pleased with work.

They finished the work on July 23. I first read about them online. So I called them and asked them to come out to do an estimate. They arrived to my house within 4 hours just to do a survey. They then sent their subcontractor within a week. They always called us to make sure that we were at home even though it was all exterior work. They came by to gather information. Then someone from the office called me verbally with an estimate and later on sent me a written estimate. We did work back and forth to clarify about the work and they worked very well on that. I then signed an agreement for them to do the work. They came out on the day they were supposed to start the work and spoke to my wife. They asked the cost for about 50 percent of the work and I wasn?t concerned about that since I had read about them online. They started the work on a Monday afternoon and finished it on the following Monday. The only way you would know that they were there working that day was when there was new paint on the house. Their cleanup habits were exceptional. They walked around the house with my wife when they came out to collect their final amount and identified a few places which needed touch-up. They took care of those too and everything has been cleared now. We did receive some pricier estimates but they were on the upper end as well. I would surely use their services in the future too.

Almost two years ago this company replaced my whole roof which had been hail damaged, repaired the ceiling in my office which had been leaking, and worked on leaking gutters. We had three separate leaking areas with the first big rain after the roof replacement. These three areas had been sources of leaks prior to the new roof and even dating back to a roof put on in 1990. Luckily, only the leak in the garage created a stain and ruined the ceiling inside a closet. CSS was informed immediately and sent people out to fix the leaking places with additional material we suggested from our prior experience and those areas do not leak anymore. However, I did not want to rush to repair the garage and closet until I had time to be here. CSS came back last month, fixed the job for NO COST on my part and fixed the wallboard between my garage door for the $150 charge listed above. The company is very professional, their workpeople clean up their messes and put my garage in order without any input on my part. I'm very impressed!!
Description of Work: Removed ceiling wallboard in garage closet and on garage wall; replaced wallboard, painted walls and sprayed the ceiling with the bubbly stuff that is used on ceilings in the El Paso, TX area. Replaced wallboard between my two garage doors and painted it.
