Artistic Flooring installed a laminated wood floor, tile, and wall tile. Every facet of this installation was a complete disaster. I hired Artistic Flooring through Floor and Décor, Installation Made Easy. The owner, Freddy, came to my house and measured for an estimate. At that time, I pointed out that the floor was not level and that the major issue needed to be addressed at the installation time. Freddy told me, “no problem, we can fix that”. I had to schedule the installation two months after the initial contact but reminded Freddy multiple times about the uneven floor that needed to be fixed. Installation was supposed to begin on the Monday of Spring Break. Freddy informed me that his installers were exposed to Covid, and installation had to be pushed back a couple of days, but he had two great installers that would do a “fantastic job”. They removed the old carpet with no problem and began installing the laminated flooring. At this point, they started putting the old broken and dirty baseboards back. These two installers didn’t speak English, so I had to call Freddy to tell them to stop putting the old baseboard on. Freddy then informed me that I would have to pay extra to have new baseboards installed, and I could pay his guys $400 or put in a change order with Installation Made Easy, which would cost more than $400. Red flag number one. The following day I called Freddy to remind him that the floor needed to be level, and he again reassured me that it was no problem. The installers began working, and I checked on the progress several hours later. They laminated over the uneven floor. I did my best to communicate with the installers that the floor was not level, so Alex, the lead installer, got a level out and showed me it was level. I tried again to tell him that it was not if you moved the level over six inches. Alex took a picture of the level and sent it to Freddy. Freddy called me and said I was wrong that the floor was level, and it must have been my carpet that was not level. Red flag number two. Freddy came to the house the following day and checked the floor; sure enough, it was not level. He then informed me that the laminated flooring would need to be cut at each door to fix it, and even then, it was no guarantee that it would be fixed. Cutting each doorway defeated the purpose of having one continuous floor, so I saw no choice but to live with the uneven floor. If I had known this, I would have installed carpet. I also pointed out that the uneven floor will be a problem when I try to sell the house – Freddy responded with, “people don’t care about the floor; they want updated bathrooms.” The next day Alex and his helper began removing the bathroom and hall tiles. They removed the old tile and cleaned the backer board. I asked them if they planned on replacing the backer board on the floor – and they did not understand, so I called Freddy. Freddy informed me that it would cost extra to replace the old board that had significant remnants of cement on it. I should have fired them at this point, and I wish I had. The installers began installing the floor tile and asked me how I wanted it laid out. I wanted it staggered – this is important because, to my surprise, I received a change order with an additional $210 charge for a pattern two days later. Nothing was mentioned to me at the time. Next, they begin installing the wall tile. I showed them where to stop tiling because I did not want the closet tiled. They tiled the closet. I called Freddy about the closet, and his response “you got something for nothing”. They tiled around the light switch and plug, cementing them to the tile. Lastly, when they installed the border, they didn’t bother to do a miter cut. Again, I called Freddy, and he told me Alex stated that they couldn’t make a miter cut because the corner was not level. They didn’t do it on any of the corners. When I pointed out this logic, Freddy had no answer. They told me they were done, and I pointed out that the baseboards were not finished. I assumed Alex was going to cut the few pieces they needed to complete the job. I gave his partner the money, and they got in their car and left. My baseboards are still unfinished. The installers left garbage in my garage and laminated planks on the side of the house – which were rained on that night and ruined. I spent hours picking up pieces of tile remnants from the landscaping in my front yard. All in all, this was a complete disaster. That evening I filed a complaint with Installation Made Easy. Freddy was supposed to come to my house the following day to look at the subpar work, but he told me that because I filed the complaint, he could not come to my house and address the issues – it was out of his hands; this was not true. Two months after the work was concluded, gaps in the laminated planks have appeared, they are anywhere between 1/16 – 1/8 inch, and they are all around the uneven floor. I spent over $3,000 in product and because this installation was so bad, I was not charged for most of the installation cost, but I’m left with a mess that will cost several thousand dollars to fix. In addition to all of these problems, the installers broke a $40 flowerpot and tried to hide it in the trash – they did not tell me about it, and they opened an upstairs window and broke that. I’m trying to get all my money refunded – so far, no luck.

Alfredo and his crew did a fantastic job. They communicated very well throughout and were always accessible. He has a great eye for design and keeping things within budget. He knows the process well and that elimates a lot of the surprises that come in big projects. I will definitely hire him again and highly recommend.

I was very impressed with Freddie at first. that is why I decided to go with his company. Everything went well dealing with the removal it was the installation my husband and I did not like. He showed up a few times but not often. His crew of two gentleman were the ones who were doing the work. They did an ok job at first from what we could tell. But then we started to notice the the wood had gaps bigger in some places but the worst was the living room floor. They failed to put down a self leveler before they started laying the floor. Now we didn't know this was supposed to happen. They are supposed to be the experts. So when the flooring went down we noticed like a wave on our floor. We told Freddie this. My husband was not happy. We are spending $3000 to get this done which doesn't include the flooring, molding, pieces for the steps and the glue. This was an additional $4500. Freddie got defensive and said that he would take his stuff and give us back the money. We do not work that way. We just wanted it done correctly!! So they worked it out to try and fix it. I say TRY because they have been here so many times that i have lost count since they finished (in May). The last time they tried to fix it was at the end of May. it is a little better but not without some waves in the floor. We do give them credit for trying to fix it. But the problem was they did not put a self leveler down before laying the floor. Another issue was another team. They are the ones that really seemed to know what they were doing. we called them the "A" team because they seemed to know what they were doing and we got the "B" team. they were probably the rookie team that did the best they could with whatever experience they had. I even went back to lumbar liquidators and spoke with the guy who recommended Freddie and his company. He even said that Freddie should have known to put a self leveler down before laying the floor. He was not happy either because he was the one who recommended them. We would not recommend this company to anyone. I will be calling lumbar liquidators as well. We feel we got ripped off and wasted $7500 on a floor that looks like we did!!! NOT HAPPY with this company!!!!

Outstanding service. After the first contact, Mr. Vega gave me a list of items I needed to get. He was very punctual not only for the first appointment, but also when it was time for the work to be completed. The crew was professional and performed an outstanding job. There is no doubt in my mind I will contact them away should I have any flooring needs.

I was very pleased with the work. Mr. Vega gave me all the pre-details of what I would need to purchase, and I did so without problem. Because I had fairly serious moisture problems, I needed a moisture barrier placed first. Mr. Vega alerted me to some gallons of moisture barrier that we being sold at an 80% discount and facilitated their purchase. He gave me a start date, and appeared at the scheduled time with all that I had purchased for the installation. The work was complted over three days, the moisture barrier placed and dried on the 1st day. Then, the glue and flooring was placed and installed respectively. The installing crew were punctual, pleasant and competent. They worked from dawn to dust to finish the installation in two days. They were supervised by Mr. Vega. The floor went down without fault and looks superb. The crew replaced the floor boards without blemish and did not disturb the paint job on the walls, which was very important to me. Mr. Vega was there at the end to inspect the final work and give his approval, in conjunction with myself. In terms of the experience, I always rate a satisfactory experience as 1st class, Champagne or Imperial. This experience was between Champagne and Imperial. You need to use Mr. Vega at Artistic Flooring!
Description of Work: The owner, Mr. Alfredo Vega, was referred to me by Lumbar Liquidators. I had a new floor installed previously by a general contractor, and it was not done properly because moisture problems were not detected beforehand. Mr. Vega came promptly with his equipment and diagnosed the problems correctly. I knew that he was correct, as I had previously consulted a flooring inspector who had told me the facts. After I was confident that Mr. Vega was competent in his diagnosis, I decided to use him to place a moisture barrier, an appropriate glue and then a hardwood floor.
