Rio Sprinkler Systems

Called Wednesday, said they would come on Friday morning, or maybe Thursday. Got a call on Thursday, and service man arrived. He got lost in RV park, so I went out and flagged him down. Showed him sprinkler system, and he checked the connections to it. They were working fine. I took him to a small area with pebble rocks at it, as I thought that might be where the valves were. He didn't want to dig around it, and said he would use the metal detector, but it would cost an extra $25. It was already $55 for the service call, and I told him I refused to pay for the detector, he would have to locate the valves on his own. So he went to his truck and got the detector, and quickly found the valves at the first place he looked, which was 15 feet from where I thought it was. The valve cover was under inches of grass, and the top was broken, which let water and dirt inside it. He replaced the valve and the cover, and the system worked. He also set the timer for my desired run times. All the time he was working, he kept going back and forth to his truck. Not sure what all he was doing going back and forth so often. He had called the company, and gave them the list of services. He included the detector, and I told him I said NO. So I called the company, and told them I said NO for the detector, and so they didn't charge me the $25 plus tax for it. It was 20 bucks for the valve, and 10 for the valve cover. Of course those were marked up, but that's to be expected. I have read lots on how to locate sprinkler valves. A good repairman can find them just by knowing where the box is, and how the sprinkler system is laid out. So I believe the repairman didn't need the metal detector at all. And the first place he used it is where the valves were. It seems like using a detector is a easy way to make big money fast. I had called Guardeno Turf three times for a service call. They were the ones who installed it years ago, and their office is just a few miles from my house. They kept saying to call at 8 am. So Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday I called. They never answered my calls or returned calls. So I don't recommend them at all.

The job went well, though through no fault of the company it ended up taking two days longer than estimated. This is the third time I have used this company. They installed a similar system at a previous home and provided maintenance and repair on a similar system at another home I owned previous to the current one. They have always been professional, competent, and good to work with.

They are responsive when you call. They met the estimate and were timely. They came right away.
