This was not a good experience. They had not been general contractors before and were not good at working with the other contractors that they did find. They over-estimated on concrete for the foundation by 1 1/2 cement trucks. They were very unorganized and we had to help get things completed, including finding subcontractors and dealing with them ourselves. We even had to help with the concrete pours because they had not planned well and concrete trucks were sitting on the lot waiting on them. It took 6 months to just get the foundation finished. We thought they would be better as framers, since they said they had a lot of experience and the references I had called said they were hard workers. They did work hard, when they came to work; however, again they were very unorganized. They brought in a crane (at our cost) for 4 days and only got a few trusses put up on the roof. They left the trusses lying unevenly on the ground for over 2 months and they were all bent. The trusses they did put up were not equally spaced and had to be reinstalled. One of them was injured during the truss installation and they left the trusses they were working on up without enough support. The trusses all fell down and some of them broke. When we told them they would have to pay for the next day of crane rental, they walked off of the job. We had to hire a crane operator and install the remaining 40 trusses ourselves, which we completed in one day. We had to hire other framers to come and complete the job they walked away from. Upon examination of their other work, we found walls that were not straight, walls that lean, floors that were very unlevel. The wall stud spacing was very uneven, varying from 12 to 20 inches. We had to have the center beam under the house raised 2 inches just to get the floors and walls level enough for the roof trusses to sit on. The windstorm strapping that they said they had completed we had to install. They over-ordered wood at our cost and we had quite a bit of left over wood with thousands of nails (which we had purchased)shot in it. The interior doorways were not the correct size (too tall) and we had to fill in the opening and put oversize trim around the doors. A couple of the windows had to be reframed to match the rough opening sizes required. We had to rebuild stairs that they had started and walked away from. The sub floors were not screwed down because they missed the floor joists with the screws. We were very fortunate that we had set up a contract where we paid based on the work they completed. Our only problem was believing them when they said they had completed something. We would not recommend them for any large jobs.
Description of Work: We hired this couple as a general contractor and as the framers for our house. They were suppose to handle getting the sub contractors for the foundation and supports, then they were to complete the framing of the house per the drawings and the windstorm requirements.
