Last October, 2019, we signed with Transform --a Sears company-- to install new windows and back French doors. What won them the sale, over four other estimates, is they were the ONLY company who could do two large French doors, with one side-light --glass-- at the top and a doggy door in the bottom. The salesman showed me THEIR catalog. Promising us that whatever was in THEIR catalog, THEY...COULD...DO. It was GORGEOUS! I said emphatically, "SOLD!" We signed the paperwork, and work was to begin. Just over $20,000.00 sale. Quickly, they came out and measured all windows and back French doors and sidelights. THEN, they called us and said they were NOT able to make our desired Doggy Door. Claimed they couldn't make it with glass, it had to be solid wood. Disappointed, we approved it. THEN they arrive and QUICKLY install the windows FIRST. THEN they go to install the back French doors w/ doggy door. We had to stop their install. It was HORRIBLE!! The "wood" looked like sheetrock. It was UGLY. The Doggy door was installed BACKWARDS, meaning we would have to go outside to open and close access through the door. Since they had already RIPPED OUT and DESTROYED our old --rotted-- French doors and two side lights, we had no choice but for them to TEMPORARILY install the WRONG doors. They wanted us to sign-off on the install with a VERBAL promise they would get the correct/ed doors. We both refused...because we read their documents. We start feeling a MAJOR "BAIT-n-SWITCH" has been played on us. With the TEMPORARY WRONG DOORS installed, we then noticed the doors were NOT AT ALL as we specified --multiple times--. The former French doors were EACH 38" wide. BOTH opened inward. The left door opened when the tabs were released. The right door opened with a doorknob. Narrow sidelights on each side of them. THE WRONG DOORS - UGLY doggy door, the "Left" door was NOT openable at all and both RIGHT and LEFT doors were 32" wide!!! We had CLEARLY demonstrated, to the salesman AND the INSTALLER, that came and measured before the install, the NECESSITY for the 38" width AND for them BOTH to swing inward. We told EVERYONE several times. --Being a top-rated Trainer of Technology, believe us, WE KNOW HOW TO MAKE THINGS CLEAR!-- THEN several managers and higher-ups got on the phone to negotiate a solution because they couldn't make what was in their catalog. We settled for ONE sidelight, ONE stationary door that would swing inward, and ONE heavy use door that would swing in. NO price reduction. NO effort to ENSURE the job was done correctly. THEN they arrive with the French Doors. Install them and the SCREEN DOOR doesn't fit. It's 32" wide. It's a different color. It leaves a 2- to 3-inch GAP between the door and the screen...which doesn't keep out bugs, DUH. Apologies, they have to go back and make a correct screen door. WEEKS GO BY, we call asking the status of the screen door. "I'm sorry, the factory keeps sending the wrong size or the wrong color. Let me get my guy to come out again and re-measure." Uh...sounds like MORE LIES. FINALLY, someone comes out AGAIN to measure and ASSURES me he's on top of it and he'll see me in a week or two with the correct screen door. WEEKS GO BY, we call AGAIN asking the status of the screen door. Same song, second verse. A few days later the SAME EXACT GUY comes out to measure AGAIN. Apologizes and assures me he's on top of the screen door situation WEEKS GO BY, we call AGAIN. The manager says, "Give me 30-minutes, I'll call around and find out what's going on. I'll call you back in 30-minutes." TWO DAYS and 30-MINUTES, we call AGAIN...voicemail. FOUR DAYS and 30-MINUTES, we call AGAIN...voicemail. Then we call ANOTHER manager's number...voicemail...no return call either. THEN, last week, we were making sure something was level, when we noticed that our HUGE back Kitchen window AND our French doors were INSTALLED CROOKED! 5/8-inch off vertically AND 5/8" off horizontally! ARGH! The glass in the windows and doors are GREEN and WAVY! We're too nervous to check the level of the other TEN windows. It's MAY...STILL NO SCREEN DOOR!!
