I would not recommend them. They gentleman who came to give me the quote was really trying to sell me more to the house than I wanted to have done. As a single woman, he made me feel very uncomfortable .
Description of Work: Swiss Avenue Painting gave me a quote for painting the exterior of my house in the late summer of 2008.

Overall great. Selected this contractor after obtaining multiple bids. Adam was generally quite responsive to my initial inquiry, to questions about the bid and the work to be done. He was responsive in providing local references. Since he is local to my area and specializes in older homes, I was comfortable that he would know how to work on this type of structure. Team arrived as promised all 3 days (1 to wash, 1 to prep, 1 to finish prep and paint). They worked long and hard and generally did an excellent job. It's hard to evaluate completely since, with exterior painting, especially on older homes, the "proof" is in the longevity of the work. However, as of job completion, it looks very nice. I was happy to see that they spent a lot of time with prep, as I expected, rather than just painting over areas in need of work. My only complaints (and the reasons for not assigning "straight As") are that the contractor doesn't submit his bids with any level of detail or in writing (all I received was an email with a total $ figure) and doesn't provide a "written" guarantee of his work. In this day and age (and with my having been burned in the past), I think a clear "paper trail" is the standard now. That said, he did stick with the agreed-upon price (for labor) and did provide receipts for materials purchases (which cost a bit more than original estimate). Additionally I was very disappointed by the crew's clean up efforts at the end (dust and paint scrapings everywhere!) and the fact that several pieces of my outdoor plumbing (watering nozzle, hydrant-to-hose connector) went missing or were broken (soaker hose ripped from its connection to the exterior hydrant). As a result, when the crew left, all the exterior hose and other connections needed to be disassembled and properly reconnected and I had to replace the missing/broken parts. Although I would be prepared to take this sort of thing "in stride", I was annoyed by the fact that they didn't tell me that parts had been broken or lost and didn't tell me that they weren't sure how to reconnect everything. I think that it's really up to the contractors to leave the job site in the same shape they found it and no, I don't like surprises, when it comes to contractors. In fairness, Adam did offer the next day to send a crew back to clean up the site. Overall, though, I am still satisfied that I selected the right contractor for this job and hope to bring him back for more work in the future.

Excellent. I called Adam and made an appointment for the next morning. He was prompt and professional. He helped me pick out a color that best suited my brick. He explained the time line for completion (removing door knocker, handle, etc.) quoted me a reasonable price. He came back the next day with his assistant who put the first coat of oil based paint on the door. Came back the following day and applied second coat. The work was completed in a timely manner, quality of work was excellent, happy with the color, the price was reasonable. Adam is friendly, helpful, professional.

Adam is excellent to deal with and his crew was a joy. Adam showed us many of his previous projects, and knocked on the doors of recently painted houses so we could see it up close. His detail work is supreme. We used two colors, but several of his previous houses had three or four colors. His crew, headed by husband and wife team Ervin and Suzie, were meticulous in pre-painting repairs, prep work, masking, cutting in, and getting full coverage with the much darker color we were painting over our old light colored paint. Adam and his crew were on time, worked hard, and finished in the number of days they quoted (except for about a week of rain in between). They worked on a Saturday to get done on time, then came back later to paint the front door once we had selected a color after the house was painted. During prep work he found more areas that needed repair, told us about them and that it would cost more for the materials. We will use him again for interior work.
Description of Work: Painted the exterior of our home, including replacing numerous boards, repairing a windowsill, repairing or replacing fascia and soffets, and even squaring off an exterior beam that was rotting on top to look like new. Thorough prep work including sanding, patching, and masking.
