This review is only on the installation of the projection. I was pleased with the pricing of my projector and as far as the sale itself I have no complaints. Furthermore, the cost of equipment is not included in the cost of service. Everything was going great up to the point that I decided to have Starpower install the projector. The installer was able to come out just two days after I purchased the projector. My theater has a vaulted ceiling so I had informed them that I would need a drop mount to get the projector low enough. The installer told me that it wasn't necessary and that the projector would have enough lens shift that it wouldn't be an issue. He preformed the install and began getting the picture adjusted on the screen. The first problem came when he thought the unit was defective because he couldn't get the lens to move far enough. I explained the problem to him that using lens shift on the horizontal plane will limit the amount vertical shift available. It concerned me that he was unaware of it, but I let it go. A few minutes later he accidentally hit a button on the remote and couldn't figure out how to fix the problem. His solution was to unplug the projector and immediately plug it back it. This is extremely bad for the bulb and is a great way to actually have the bulb burst. Finally he finished up (with the lights on) and left. Unfortunately I became busy with another situation and it wasn't until after they left that I got to look at the projector with the lights off. When the lights went out I found the image spilled over the screen and onto the wall. I ended up taking my ladder out and readjusting the projector, however it quickly became evident that the projector was mounted too high. While I managed to improve the problem, the projector wasn't (and couldn't be) level so the image was distorted. I called the installer and they agreed to come back out that evening. When they came back out their solution to me was the use of keystone correction to fix the image. If you don't know, keystone correction is never the solution. Doing so harms image quality and reduces the resolution. I told them that keystone correction wasn't a solution and that it would need to be fixed properly. It took two weeks but ultimately they did come out and fix it right and now I'm very happy with my projector. So where am I on all of this? The use of keystone correction really doesn't sit well with me. I installed everything in my theater and had never used an installer before. I only did in this situation because the idea of holding a 40 pound projector over my head didn't sound like a good time. Had I not known that keystone correction caused so many issues, I may well have kept my mouth shut and not known that they had not done a proper installation. Furthermore, I was put off that the installer didn't seem to have much knowledge when it came to projectors. The lens shift issue mentioned above is something that the installer should have known, it's one of those things that is going to affect every single projector (across all brands) that has both horizontal and vertical lens shift. Keystone correction in a home theater is never an acceptable solution. It bugged me that had I not known about home theater setup and installation, I would have had a improper setup without knowing anything was wrong. Ultimately I'm somewhat torn on this review. In Starpower's defense their sales staff was great and I'm happy with the purchase I made. Their prices were competitive and when the problems did arise they were, for the most part, extremely responsive in working out a solution. I would consider buying electronics from Starpower again in the future, but I don't think I would consider them again for an installation in my theater.
Description of Work: I purchased a projector from Star Power and had them preform the installation.

It is absolutely amazing to me how some of these well known businesses stay in business. My wife and I went over to Starpower because we had heard about them as being well known in designing a custom media room. We talked to 3 people, including Gabrielle Jewison, a design specialist. We told them that we were close to closing on a house and that we will be calling them for help and/or estimate. We were very excited because this was going to be our first home with a media room. Fast forward to 6-3-14, our date that we were going to meet with Gabielle. She came over on time and we had a very good meeting. We talked about a whole array of things that we could do with our media room. She asked us some questions about what we would like with the place and how much we wanted to spend so she can design something around those criteria's. She also told us that it will take about 2-3 weeks to come up with something. We spent about a good 30-45 minutes. She took measurements of the room and told us that she will get back to us. Again, we were very excited. Not too many and quot;media roomand quot; companies do design as well as just hardware so we thought we had the right company. More then 3 weeks went by so I emailed Gabrielle to see what the status is. Nothing. I called and left a message. Nothing. Now it is 7-9-14 and still nothing. This is the kind of companies that makes you want to come on here and give them as bad a review as possible. Not one word from them, even after 2 attempts at contact from me. Just horrible! I don't care if they do a good job, I will never ever do business with them!
Description of Work: Came over to take measurements for the designs they will come up with. Also, they will give us an estimate on how much the designs will cost.

Description of Work: About 10 years ago, I used Starpower to install all the equipment for a media room. When it came time to update the theater room on my current house, I went their first. My budget was around $5,000 and I wanted to replace a failing projector and a home made screen. This time, I wanted them to be professionally installed. Their sales staff was rather uninterested since they clearly wanted to sell only high end theater rooms. One salesman showed me a couple of projectors, but wasn't very knowledgeable about the differences. Likewise, he pointed out some screens but couldn't explain why one was better than the other. I told him that I liked a particular screen and the Epson 6030 that I ended up buying from elsewhere. He said that was great and was I ready to buy them right then. I said that I wasn't going to make a snap decision and needed to check out reviews on the projector before making a decision. At that point he said that he had other customers and walked off. We left and went to myHomedia where we had an excellent experience and ended up buying from them instead. I will not be using Starpower in the future.

They're awesome. The quote was $2000. They're very professional and just do quality work.
Description of Work: For sound systems, I'm using Star Power. They're in my house right now. They're in the middle of the work right now. Before they started the work, they came out and gave me quote about a week ago. They're mounting a flat screen above the fireplace, setting up surround sound and an RF remote system.
