+ -1 moreFirst, let me tell you that Sewell Shutter Company called me during the installation and after the installation to see how things were going. Sometimes I get calls from other companies but what makes Sewell stand out in my mind is that the calls came from the owner of the company. I believe the owner does that for every job (not just mine). Great customer connection! Second, the work was performed perfectly from manufacture to installation. I love the final result. I believe that these shutters will last a lifetime - as they are guaranteed to do. They are beautiful and functional - and they were built in Texas with American wood! Thank you Sewell!
Description of Work: We purchased our house in November 2012. Family was due to arrive for Christmas on December 21. All windows and patio doors had no privacy curtains or shutters. I called three companies that provide window treatments hoping to have the project completed by Christmas. Sewell Shutter Company was the only one that was willing to fabricate, paint and install wood plantation-style shutters and wood slat blinds in time for our deadline on the 21st. It was not going to be a simple project. Sewell sent out an estimator who measured each window and helped us decide on color and style of shutter. Sewell provided a firm quote and a guaranteed installation date for about 240 square feet of windows and doors. We agreed on price and paid 50% in order to begin construction. Sewell sent out a highly experienced "draftsman" to measure and design the final product. We have a curved bay window (approximately 7' X 10') in the living room made up of 5 separate dual glass windows that pull in for cleaning. Each of these windows would have separate shutters and frames that would not prevent the window operation. His dimensions and design was fabricated and installed without a hitch. Amazing! Within two hours on installation day, the installation crew had completed the work of placing the painted frames, shutters (12 windows and 4 doors) and wooden blinds (2 windows).

+ -1 moreThe first time, after installing the blinds, the color did not match. We contacted them the same day about it and the very next morning they were at our home. They took the blinds back with them, corrected the color, and reinstalled them within a week. Plus, they have wonderful customer service!

I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing window treatments at a very reasonable rate. Also, all shutters are made in their office and you can stop by and see your shutters being made.

+ -1 moreSewell shutters are beautifully crafted and guaranteed for life, which is important because they are not cheap. However, I did price comparisons and Sewell pricing is fair, though definitely high-end construction and installation. I believe you get what you pay for, and I am systematically replacing cheap shoddy shutters that are literally falling apart throughout my house. During the original visit, all the windows in my home were measured, and Sewell keeps the specs, design, and paint selection on file. I have slowly been ordering the shutters as I can afford them. Some of my windows are quite large, and Sewell?s ability to make very large shutter panels is attractive and keeps the design simple for a contemporary setting. I also like the way the arch above the windows is included in the panel design. I am very pleased with Sewell?s shutter quality, installation, and service and would highly recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Sewell installed high quality custom-made wood shutters for two rooms. About a year ago, they installed wood shutters for 6 windows in two other rooms in my home. So far, I have spent over $4,300 with them. Pricing includes measuring, custom creation and installation of shutters.

They had the 3 windowsand set of doors up in no time. They take great pride in their work and it shows. This is the second set of shutters from them; their performance on the first set is the reason we ordered from them again. We will always get our shutters from them and have recomended them to friends.

+ 0 moreWe found this company here on Angie's List. Based on the great reviews and ratings we decided to call for an estimate. The sales rep, Jim, was very professional and on time. We live in a condo with 5 almost same size windows: 49" x 65". The first appointment did not take long. He measured the windows and brought a sample so we could have an idea how they looked. He was very patient and reviewed with us the options best suited for our condo. We received an estimate a couple of days later through email. We liked the competitive pricing. We had gotten an estimate on polywood shutters and found that wood shutters were almost $650 less than polywood. We appreciated that because we were under a tight budget but looking forward to installing shutters in our condo. After we made a down payment of half the cost, they came back to ensure the measurements were correct, confirm our choices in the frame, and how we wanted the end product to look. We were told it would take 4 to 8 weeks but we were fortunate enough to get them installed in about 4 weeks. Installation was quick. Took about an hour. The paint color matched our window ledges. The carpentry work is great. The crew was professional and made sure not to leave a mess. The quality of the shutters is awesome. We would recommend to others.

+ -1 moreIt was a lot of work. We priced a lot of places and they gave us a competitive bid especially when we found out the company we were considering using made the shutters for them. We interviewed about 5 companies and several of them said we had to take things like they were and couldn't customize them. They were not like that and they said it would look nice when it was done. We cannot tell a difference between what was originally in the house and what was added. It looks seamless. They were well worth the money. We would definitely use them again.

+ -1 moreSewell came out, they were prompt, the salesman knowledgeable. We placed the order. The company president called afterwards to make sure all had gone well and we were having our needs met. They came back and installed the shutters on the date promised, and they looked great. There was a little problem, and a service guy came back promptly and addressed it but not to my satisfaction, so the company president got involved again and someone else came right back out and it was beautifully solved. We are very happy with our shutters. When we decided to have a special one made to serve as sort of a closet door, we called Sewell in and they did a beautiful job again. I'm very pleased with them and will use them again if I need shutters.
Description of Work: We needed to put up more plantation shutters to match the ones we already had in the house. The company that put the existing ones in had gone out of business. We liked our shutters very much and I was concerned about the new ones matching and being as good a quality.

When another well known shutter company came in with a bid that was out of my price range I ask the sales rep, who had years of experience selling shutters, to recommend some other shutter companies that provide good quality at a reasonable price. Sewell was one of the companies recommended. Sewell?s pricing was very competitive. I went to their factory in Lake Highlands to place the order and the owner gave me a tour of their facility. The shutters were ready for installation about 30 days after I ordered. The shutters look great. Rarely am I satisfied with all aspects of a company?s product and service provided but Sewell did a great job.

+ -1 moreThe experience was just excellent. I can't say enough about the bidding, the measuring and how gorgeous they are. The quality is wonderful and most importantly they are made here in Dallas. They have excellent prices. It depends off of the other companies to do it yourself first and then as far as designers of course much cheaper because it was direct. It is very easy to see the quality, the amount of hardware, wood product and the paint. They also have a very good website that demonstrated and showed the manufacturing. I would use their services in future. They do excellent follow up and it is done by the owner himself. The bid was also done by the owner and the people he has working for him, have worked for him for years. So, the estimator, the person who did the bid and the guys who installed were all wonderful.

+ -1 moreThe experience with this company was wonderful! They came out, measured, and gave me an estimate on the whole house, because we plan on doing the whole house someday. It is nice to know what price we are looking at in the future, so that I can budget for it. They didn't come out the day they were supposed to, because they weren't happy with the paint job. They wanted to wait a couple days and try to get it better, which was fine because I would rather them wait and get the paint job right. I was amazed at how quickly they installed them, and how professional they were. I was impressed with their craftsmanship. It was a good value. Shutters are not cheap, and I thought these were very reasonably priced.
