Handyman Services, Pressure Washing

About us

REPAIRING THINGS is the main focus of my business. I have been repairing things since early on, when in my father's business we often had to find quick solutions to broken and non-functioning things, especially when no repair help was close by. That's where I learned the basics of the many practical skills that allow me today to "quick-fix" a multitude of things. The "quick" stands for the fact that I work fast, yet never inaccurately or sloppy. I often come up with solutions where others don't, and I take special pride in doing nice, clean jobs. I also ALWAYS clean up after my job is finished (which is not necessarily very common...). I'm a friendly and respectful person and get very well along with people. Obviously, I have lots of excellent references to prove it. Home owners frequently leave me with a key to their house, so I can do work in their absence. Typically, I come by and take a look at the job(s) you have and then discuss the details with you and will then give you a general price idea. But normally I work strictly BY THE HOUR, and ONLY if a job picture is clear and definite enough, I may give you a firm price. (Please understand that in the home repair business there can be all kinds of unforeseen issues that often make it difficult to determine an exact price). I usually work all by myself, but in certain situations I may bring one or two other persons which are compatible with me - and your environment - in every respect. To cover my trip time, I charge $30 extra for my first work hour within a 12 mile radius from my home base. If my commute exceeds 12 miles, the trip charge will increase on a pro-rated scale. Please TEXT ME, or give me a call under 214-734-6293 or email me at quickfixjay@yahoo.com to discuss your home repair needs. I'm looking forward to meeting with you! Additional services: Full AC service by a licensed colleague. Minor plumbing: sinks, toilets, faucets, showers, food disposals, dishwashers. Tiles: wall & floor. Glass repair: windows, doors (single pane only), mirrors. Welding: gates, fences, railings. Power washing: walls, patios, driveways. Drywall installation & repair. Window caulking. Job was completed in one day by Samuel, a very capable and skilled craftsman. The new fence is well built, sturdy, and very nice looking. Very pleased with the work done by Mr Quick Fix. Will be calling him when I need a handyman.

Jay's team had earlier freed-up five windows that had been painted shut for decades. His team had new screens fabricated by professionals and installed them in a timely way. The workmanship is excellent, the look is clean, and the price was a tiny fraction of the cost of new windows. We're highly satisfied by Jay's work, plus he's a great guy.

A water leak in the crawl space caused the wooden crawl space door and surrounding floorboards to swell. The plumbers had to force it open to repair the leak. As happens when plumbers do carpentry, the result was ill-fitting and unsightly. Jay Van Hulst, Mr. Quick Fix, was doing other work at our house and volunteered to do a, well, quick fix on the crawl space door. With materials from his truck he made it look good and easy to open and close. We're highly satisfied with his flexibility and range of skills.

Jay did an excellent job fixing a lamp post which had blown over. He figured out what no one else could in the past on how to anchor the post securely into the ground. He also replaced some stone work on our sidewalk that had started to crumble. I highly recommend him and we will definitely be using him for any projects we have in the future. He was very professional, prompt and thorough in all that he did.

We thought we'd have to get new windows in this 1936 house; estimates ranged from $20,000 to $60,000. Mr. QuickFix (Jay Van Hulst) suggested letting him get them operational. He did the first five for about $400 and will have Ace Hardware build customized screens for about $60 each. There will come a time when we'll need to replace these energy inefficient windows but for now we're quite happy.

I will start off by saying that I am so thankful we found Jay to work for us!! After a few bad - and very frustrating - experiences with other contractors and handymen (who tried to rip us off and overcharge us for doing shoddy work), we couldn’t have been happier with Jay and his other helper!!! My husband and I are new to the Dallas area and needed a lot of projects done in our home - some big and some small (kitchen remodel, wall enclosure, replace ceiling lights/fans, fix dry wall in garage, add electric outlets, replace bathroom countertops, build a custom desk, replace broken window, and lots more). We are not handy at all when it comes to remodeling or repairs of any kind, but Jay seems to be a jack of all trades and was able to fix just about everything we requested, or he referred us to another specialist. We felt very safe/comfortable having him in our home while we were away at work. Honesty and integrity are extremely important to us, and Jay and his helper have both. His prices are very fair and he does great work. Would definitely recommend him and use him again in the future! Thanks so much Jay!

I was delighted with Jay's work. On his first trip he repaired a dripping faucet in a bathroom that my previous plumber said couldn't be fixed! He found the right equipment and it works great! No more leaking faucet. On his second trip, he replaced the rotted out bottom portion of a glass door without having to take the entire door out. The house stayed cool and the repair looks wonderful! On that same trip he checked and cleaned our roof of debris and checked the skylights for leaks. I have found him to be efficient and fair. I will definitely use him again!!!

A cable guy had stepped on our bathroom ceiling from the attic leaving the ceiling sheetrock sagging and the orange peel texture cracked. I had trouble getting anybody to come out and fix it since it was such a small annoying job. I also really wanted it fixed in one day as I was going to have to take off work to let somebody into the house, but it was really a three day job (fix crack and add drywall mud, let dry overnight, fix texture, let dry over, and paint). Jay sent over Benny to fix it at my earliest convenience (three days from when I contacted him), and he was able to do the entire process in a single day using a heat gun to dry the ceiling between steps. Benny arrived a little after 10 am when Jay had told me expect him between 10 and 10:30 am. He did some investigating and took some pictures of the attic side of the ceiling and explained how he was going to fix it (including a new 2x4 on something in the attic) to get my approval before he got started on the work. He scheduled his lunch break for when it would be most beneficial for the drywall mud to dry. He did the drywall fix, re-textured it, and did 2 coats of new paint on the entire bathroom ceiling (only 35 sq ft) as we had decided to change the ceiling color as part of the repair. The ceiling is good as new. He charged $95 for the first hour and $65 for each subsequent hour. The next day, Jay texted me asking for the hourly rate for time worked plus a reasonable amount for materials. He asked me to send payment via Venmo. He confirmed my Venmo payment within 30 minutes of me sending it to him. Overall good experience. My only complaint about the quality is that the paint on the ceiling isn't great but is fine. It's possibly my fault as I was asking him to hurry up at the end as we were trying to do a dinner thing and he left at almost 6 pm.

I used Mr. Quickfix to patch a hole in my bathroom ceiling that resulted from a leak in my attic. He did a great job! He was courteous, professional, quick to respond to my text messages, punctual to our appointment time, and left not one spec of dirt or dust. Like not one. I will also mention that he's NOT creepy or weird like some repairman can be - I felt totally fine being home alone while he worked. I will definitely hire Mr. Quickfix again to help with my home projects. Thanks for doing an awesome job!

Jay responded to my initial text within an hour and asked for some pictures of the things I wanted him to work on. After I sent them he said this was something he could help with, and sent his employee Benny out the same day to estimate the job. Jay then contacted me a few hours after Benny left with the estimate and asked if I wanted to go ahead. I said yes, and he had Benny out the next day to do the work. Benny contacted me at 8:30 to ask if I was ready to get started. He went to the store and bought the materials needed and then arrived around 10:45. I live in a historic house with #117 wood siding, which is not available at Home Depot or Lowes, but Benny went to one of the lumber yards in the metroplex that had one and found the right siding. He started on patching the hole in the wall as soon as he arrived and he was done within a few hours. The end results looked great. The spare paint I had didn't quite match because the surrounding paint had faded in the sun, but aside from that you can barely tell where the repair was made. Next Benny looked at the french doors. They were pretty off-kilter due to my 100 year old pier-and-beam house settling and they would not latch properly anymore. After looking at it he discussed my options with me. He said he could either just put in shims on the hinges to align the door as much as possible, or he could take off the trim and try to adjust the frame. Since the house shifts season-to-season, I wasn't confident that any major fix would be permanent, so I opted for the minor fix. He got the door hanging more evenly and then adjusted the strike plate for the latches so they lined up properly. The door isn't perfectly aligned but it latches now and opens and closes smoothly which was the main thing I wanted. Next up was the dishwasher. I had installed this myself and I wasn't happy with the result. It wasn't level and there were gaps between the dishwasher and the cabinets. Benny took the dishwasher out and removed the shims that I had put in. While he was doing this he told me that really the dishwasher should be wired with a plug instead of hard-wired into the power line. I gave him a junction box and outlet I had lying around and while he was working on that, I went to Home Depot to get a power cord for the dishwasher. He installed the cord, put the dishwasher back in place and leveled it. He had to cut a strip of wood off the cabinets on the side to make it fit properly and then put a strip along the top. The dishwasher job ended up taking longer than everything else combined, and honestly I'm not super thrilled with the end results. There are still gaps around the dishwasher and it sticks out further than I would like but I think Benny did the best job he could given the challenges he had to work with. If I had it to do over again, I probably would have just left the dishwasher the way it was for now, but hindsight is 20/20. I am sure he could have made it look better if I had wanted him to spend the time on it, but I decided not to. I feel I really need to redo the entire kitchen with new cabinets since the ones I have are really old and have shifted along with the rest of the house. The final job was fixing the railing on the front porch steps. Benny removed the rotten section of 2x4 and put in a new one. The repaired railing itself is solid now but the connection to the ground is not. Benny showed me the problem and explained that it would require drilling a hole in the concrete and using a larger bolt to make the connection more solid. It was getting late at that point and he didn't have the needed materials so I told him maybe I'd have him fix that if I needed to have him back out for another job someday. Overall I'm really happy with the job that Benny did. I felt that he was punctual, professional, and honest, and when he ran into challenges he explained the options and let me decide how to proceed. Even with the challenges faced with the dishwasher, the entire job ended up coming in below the estimate that he initially gave me, so I'm happy with the price too. I would definitely use Mr. Quickfix again.
Description of Work: I needed to have a hole in my exterior siding patched after the plumber cut it to access a leaking pipe. While I had them out I decided to go ahead and have some other odds and ends taken care of... a rotten board on the handrail for my front porch steps, french doors that didn't close properly due to the house shifting, and leveling a dishwasher that I had installed myself and wasn't happy with the results.
