Description of Work: Jan refreshed our great room, which was looking tired after 10 years. We were so pleased with the results at home that we asked her to help re-decorate our Galveston beachfront condo. Both projects were winners! In the great room, Jan played off a large piece of art on a blank white wall. She took colors from the painting and used them throughout -- rust, navy, black, beige, cobalt blue. She suggested painting a block of color behind the art, which transformed a blank wall into an art gallery. With Jan's guidance, we recovered several pieces of furniture in complimentary fabrics. She also recommended adding small rugs under our dining table and second coffee table, which helped anchor and set off those spaces. To keep our glass wall of sliding doors open and airy, Jan installed simple corner drapes that soften the windows. In the kitchen that opens onto the great room, we added a backsplash and a hand-painted floorcloth in vivid colors. Jan spent a weekend in our condo, looking at the light and the ocean and the sky, paint swatches in hand. She came back to us with a teal and mango palette that makes the place so lively. Some walls are blue, some mango. Accent pillows pick up the colors. Jan even dyed a dust ruffle and pillow shams to get just the right shade of mango. There's also a floorcloth in matching colors in the kitchen. Our guests are wowed when they open the front door. It's beachy and bright -- and far from the trite beach decor you might expect.

Description of Work: Decorated our home for the holidays, after we were unexpectedly asked (and agreed!) to host the neighborhood holiday party.

Description of Work: Jan helped me rearrange my furniture in a way that helped everything flow. She had wonderful decorating ideas and even helped us with some ideas in a room and bathroom we were planning to gut.

Description of Work: Jan came to help me with an awkward living space and how to "work in" more seating while retaining my antique pieces. I also consulted her with regard to a possible color change in the living area of my small condo.

Description of Work: I needed to have pictures hung, furniture put into place, ideas for making my home look nice. Jan was so helpful, kind, and knew exactly what she was doing! She came in one evening and went through my home, room by room, deciding where everything would go. Then a few days later, came back with her handyman who actually hung the pictures. She brought over stuff that fit perfectly in my home, set everything up, and made it look like the perfect home!

Description of Work: She did a consultation on colors. She looked at the existing colors in the house and suggested some wall colors.

Description of Work: I read about Jan Boutwell in the Angie's List magazine. She came out and we talked about major aspects of decorating. I've had a major problem in my master bedroom, my windows are too tall and are slanted (I've had other companies that were supposed to come out for blinds-no one else was able to solve the problem).

Description of Work: Jan provided consultation on staging our house for resale. She provided direction on paint selection, reorganizing furniture and knick-knacks, and facilitated fabric selection and fabrication of window treatments for our living room, dining room, and master bedroom.

Description of Work: Jan came to our house, evaluated the floorplan and gave pointers on how to arrange furniture to make rooms flow better and feel more cozy. She also assisted me in choosing a paint color and light fixture for a large hallway.
