Description of Work: I had a good experience with Kozy Services. My repair person Ryan texted me that he was running early and asked if he could move appointment up. He serviced my unit and it was a little low on Freon. I told him that I have seen a lot of units in my neighborhood being replaced because of age. He did a quick amp test and told me for a unit of that age, I still have a few years left on it. He could have easily told me it had to be replaced and I probably would have believed him. I appreciated his honesty and I will use Kozy again.

The Kozy techinician said that my evaporator coil needed to be replaced since it was leaking freon, and that this repair would require a city permit. He then said that, since I was getting a permit for the evaporator coil work, I would need to do code upgrades to comply with current requirements. Those upgrades wouldn't be covered by my AHS policy. He said Kozy would contact me the next day with details (it was after 9:30 pm at that point). The next day, I contacted my city permit's department to get more information about the permit/inspection requirements. The person I spoke with confirmed that I needed a permit but said no code upgrades were required. I called Kozy to let them know, but the person I spoke with said that there were also state requirements. When I questioned this (b/c the city does the actual inspection), she said she would have someone call me who could give me more information. The person who contacted me several hours later told me that if I got a letter from the city on city letterhead stating that no code upgrades were required, then they wouldn't need to do the upgrade work. I countered that I thought Kozy should provide me with information about the specific regulations they were referring to in determining that I needed to do code upgrades. She didn't have this information and said she would check with someone who might have more information. That was Friday night, and on Monday afternoon, Kozy sent me an email listing repair work not covered by AHS that would need to be performed. The email contained no response to my request for the specific regulations that Kozy said required me to do code upgrades. The amount was over $1000. I replied asking for the regulatory requirement information and still have not heard back, a day later. This information should be readily available if they used it to determine what I needed to do to comply with city codes. It's a questionable business practice to state that a customer must perform code upgrade work and not provide documentation to support this assertion, especially when presented with new information that this work is not required. To shift the burden to the customer is irresponsible. My concern is that Kozy may be charging people for work that isn't actually required (intentionally or simply by not taking the appropriate steps to be certain of the regulatory requirements). I also rated Kozy low on punctuality, responsiveness, and professionalism because they arrived an hour later than the 5 - 8 pm service window and didn't call after the service window to let me know what was going on; because they took a long time to call me back and to provide me with an estimate for the work; and because a professional should be able to provide specific information re: code upgrades that they haven't provided to me. I don't normally write reviews, but I'm very concerned about how Kozy is handling the code upgrade issue.
Description of Work: AHS selected Kozy Services to detemine what was wrong with one of my AC units, which wasn't cooling the upstairs. The technician spent time in my attic and outside at the location of the AC unit investigating the problem. The Kozy technicial discussed the problems he found with me (see below). No repairs were made.

Our air conditioner stopped working on a Sunday morning (of course) in the middle of July. We called Kozy services because we had used them in the past, and they advertised that they did not charge extra for nights or weekends. They were able to have a technician out to our house in 3 hours. Chad came and inspected our AC unit, and was able to determine that the condenser fan motor had failed. Fortunately, he did have a replacement that fit our 9 year old Lennox system in his truck, and was soon able to have our AC running again. He was very professional, and said that otherwise our system was in good shape. We were very happy with the service provided by Kozy Services.

AHS dispatched Kozy after I called them about my furnace not working. I admit I was a little worried after reading some of the previous reviews here but Janice from Kozy called me right away and set up a service call for the standard 4 hour window starting at 11:00 AM the next day. Julio actually called me at 10:15 on the day of service and told me he could be here in 15 minutes. He quickly identified the problem and resolved it for the standard AHS fee of $75. Very happy with this company and their service.
Description of Work: Furnace was not functioning. Julio reconnected a pressure tube and unit now heats the the house.

At the begging of summer our air conditioning unit stopped working. We called our home warranty company who dispatched Kozy Services. They determined a faulty starter switch whiched they replaced. We started noticing the unit was not cooling to the desired temperature set on the thermostat. We call back our warranty company to inform them our unit is not working correctly. Kozy services was again dispatched to perform a complete inspection. Results of the first inspection were no mechanical issues found, but tech suggested to call back if the problem still existed. A week later, we called back our warranty company, who again dispatched Kozy Services. A different Tech stated freon was down, but again no mechanical problem. We continued to state that the problem was still present....thermostat set to 77 but indoor room temp stayed at 80 degrees. The service inspection even showed showed this condition as well. The tech had no concern about finding the root cause of the problem and left. Their receipt state "We are not finished, until you're satisfied"! This seems to be a complete waste of ink and a very misleading. We were not satisfied but they decided to leave. We are working with our warranty company to find a new AC company that meets Angies List top level. DO NOT use these guys. If your warranty company dispatches them, demand another company. They are clearly incompetent to make the A grade.
Description of Work: Currently our air conditioning does NOT cool to the desired temperature set at the thermostat. Kozy Services did a complete system inspection, including freon level, coil check and fan.

Almost a WEEK later I still did not have service. Eventually called another company and fixed it in about 20 minutes. Do your self a favor and pick ANY OTHER COMPANY IN DFW!!!!!

This company was sent out by my home warranty company to check why my secondary drain line was dripping. The company came out 7 TIMES IN A PERIOD OF 4 WEEKS. They never fixed the problem. They told me the line was clogged, then told me there was a leak at the outside unit, then said the unit needed to be rehung because it was not level, then told me the line was clogged again. They finally told me the drain line needed to be replaced. The warranty company sent a plumber who said that the A/C drain line was not covered under plumbing, but instead needed to be done by an A/C company. The warranty company sent out another A/C company who said the coil was bad, and it needed to be replaced. They said that should have been obvious to Kozy the first time they looked at it. So a month has gone by, and I am now being told I have to spend $2,000 to replace the coil. Kozy is an incredibly inept company, and I would not trust at all any diagnosis made by them.

How did it go? They accepted a job with no intentions of providing and insstalling a new blower, as diagnosed, and left me with no air conditioning for six days in 105 degrees, leading me over and over again to believe they were looking for a new motor for me. They could have ordered the new motor immdiately. THIS IS THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH REGARDING THEIR UNPROFESSIONALISM, LACK OF FOLLOW THROUGH, AND OUT RIGHT LIES TO THE CUSTOMER. The moment the job became bigger, these American Home Shield sub-contractors merely drop you in the middle of a job because they are not going to get paid enough by American Home Shield to cover their costs (American Home Shield then wanted to pay me $66.00 to cover the cost of a new motor and a three hour installation). It actually cost $600 out of my own pocket, even though this was covered under my warranty. Sincy KOZY SERVICES just didn't show up or call me back today and told American Home Shield "we don't work on air condnitioning blowers" I have been left since last Friday with no air conditioning, though they said they were "looking for a motor" for three days.DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANY REASON. - i CAN ASSURE YOU, THEY WILL PROMISE ONE THING AND JUST MAKE THINGS WORSE.
Description of Work: This was the third company sent to my new condo after the previous company burned out the blower motor on my air handler but refused to replace the motor and transferred my warranty contract service to this provider, Kozy Services. On Friday, June 22, 2012 I telephoned Star Home Comfort to tell them my blower motor had burned out and my air conditioner was not working after they had worked on it two days before. On Saturday, June 23, I was told that Star Home Comfort had transferred the issue to KOZY SERVICES It was suppose to be an "emergency" - it was 103 degrees in Dallas, Texas, I have a form of MS, and the problem had already been diagnosed. I waited 24 hours until the next day Julio showed up from Kozy Services and diagnosed that I needed a new blower motor - he wrote down the specs, took the model number serial number and said he would mark this as a priority as it was 93 degrees inside my condo. I called Kozy on Monday morning and was told by Stephannie that my motor would be replace at (9:00 a.m. the next day - Tuesday. On Monday night, I got a telephone call at 6:30 from Rick, the parts manager, saying he had been unable to locate a motor, he would call me in the morning as soon as he found one. I waited all day Tuesday in the heat and heard nothing from the company. I had my old air conditioning mechanic come out to rig a little air stream by fans running over the chiller pipes, to get the temp down to 88 and protect my cat.My air conditioning friend called Rick, the parts manager,, and told him the specs again of the motor and told him he could get one at Tolberts Electric here in Dallas, and that it was available - he had checked. I then talked to Rick, and said, that at this point, if he could not get a motor after two days, then it only made sense to replace the entire air handler. He said he would get one from Tolbert's, he just hadn't known the specs so he wanted to pull my motor out, and would install it on Wednesday, June 27. At this point I had been 5 days without air conditiioning and the temp was now 105 outside. I told Rick I was going to a hotel, with my cell phone and to update me. To please call me first thing after he had confirmed getting a air handler with American Home Shield and get back to me. I heard nothing again. At 10:00 on Wednesday I spoke to Stephanie again, who hung up on me, and then Debbie, the Supervisor called me (I had spoken to her the day before and she said if my air conditioning guy could locate a motor to have him call them - which I did) and she told me that they were not going to get a new motor and if I didn't agree to have them rip out my old motor and re-build it, or so they could use it as a prototype to find a "used" motor, they would not fix my air conditioning. I wasted 6 days of my life, had my health impacted, was promised a new motor and an appointment scheduled without their even having a motor to install though their own mechanic, Julio, had said this was a very simple blower motor and system with only three parts. The worst part was no one ever calling me back and the lie after lie I was told by Rick, Debbie, Katrina, and Stephanie. They were so unprofessional and had no interest in getting my air conditioning fixed, or cared that I was without air conditioning for six days. Motors were available everywhere - these people want to collect their small fees from American Home Shield under my contract, but when it is something more major, they lie that there are "no motors available to purchase or order" over a three day period and then drop you as a customer because they won't get paid enough for a bigger job from American Home Shield. This is WITHOUT A DOUBT THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH --THEY CANNOT BE RELIED UPON, THEY DON'T KEEP THEIR WORD, AND THEY OUTRIGHT LIE TO THE CUSTOMER --nO FOLLOW THROUGH, NO UP DATES,AND UNETHICAL IN THEIR PRACTICES.

The service was late in arriving and the tech did what he was supposed to but having to pay 150 above the quoted price is not ethical in my mind
Description of Work: Kozy was scheduled to do an American home shield repair of my air conditioner. The day of the repair within an hour of there scheduled appointment I was notified of an additional $150.00 charge for a permit. The original service call listed a permit, disposal, recover, low voltage conduit, float switch, sediment trap mastic seal and 4lbs of freon which American home shield would not cover. Kozy said they were not aware of a permit being needed even after there tech was on site 20 days ago and that they become aware of the permit the Saturday they were to come out for a Monday appointment. I feel that the cost of the job should have included the permit and not have it come up an hour before it is to be fixed. I feel a if a bait and switch has been done and I would not recommend this company to anyone wanting a service on their ac or heat.

Apparently it has been leaking ever since, and we did not know it. The people coming out have been filling it with freon and not tackling the problem. Now that there is problem, I am trying to get them to honor the 10 year warranty. They will not honor the warranty because they were bought out by Kozy Services and will not honor any previous warranties with Kozy Air and Heating.

Response from Kozy Services
We explained to this particular consumer that Kozy Services has no affiliation with Kozy Heating & Air Conditioning. The consumer told us since our name has Kozy in the title that he felt we should honor the manufactures warranty. The consumer faxed us the invoice and demanded us to do all repairs, we explained to him that we are not Kozy Heating & Air Conditioning once again, the consumer theartened to tarnish our good reputation with the BBB, Angies List and many other Online review websites if we did not honor another companies warranty. It's unfortunate that some consumers abuse the online review process, the review sites are put in place for consumers who actually had work performed by a company, this consumer never used our company.

Extremely well with his check on my furnace. Because the climate is cooler, now, he was unable to check on my cooling problems I had during the summer, but did say to call back in May in order to check the cooling system when the heat puts more demand on it.
Description of Work: I have a home owners warranty who arranged for Kozy to come out without service charge. (My expercience was really bad with the first company, A US Air, sent to me by AHS home warranty.) Julio called ahead to confirm his arrival time, arrived early and presented himself clean cut and professional. He listened carefully to my concerns and performed a thorough investigation. He discovered that my furnace wouldn't work since I had not had the gas turned on to the house. He completed all his investigations with my heat/air system and said he would come back, no extra service charge, to check the furnace after I got my gas turned on. He did return and checked the gas lines and the furnace and was so very pleasant and polite. I am thoroughly impressed by his work that I will call on Kozy even after my home warranty expires.

Kozy arrived on Monday and diagnosed the problem, a burned out compressor. Scott told me it would probably be a day or so to get the part, but that he would contact the home warranty company immediately and see if he could expedite it. He was prompt and professional, and the first appointment took less than an hour. Stephanie and Angie in the office at Kozy Services jumped through all sorts of hoops to get the part in as quickly as possible and then rearranged their schedule to accommodate my repair the very next day. When the part arrived, Damon and Adam had the old part removed and the new part installed within an hour. My system runs great now! Damon and Adam were extremely polite, really knew what they were doing, and had us fixed up quickly. I highly, highly recommend Kozy Services!
Description of Work: Kozy Services was dispatched by our home warranty company to repair our HVAC system. They were able to see me the same day to diagnose the problem and were extremely proactive in getting the repair approved and processed by the warranty company. They came out on the second day with the part and had it installed and the AC now cools perfectly. Because this was a warranty call, I paid a service fee, disposal, and freon reclaim fees, and the warranty company covered the cost of the parts and most of the labor. I believe this was about a $2,000 job once it was all said and done.

They went into the attic and looked at the drip panel which was over flowing I guess. They replaced a valve that another company had put in upside down which caused the over flow. They cleaned that up for us and inspected the rest of the system for us. They were the only ones who would come out on short notice on a weekend which was nice because we called several companies. They didn't recommend anything extra, they were very nice about it and very professional. Their pricing was much less expensive than I thought, I was expecting to pay much more. They were professional, courteous and responsive on short notice. We are thinking about calling them again for a system check up.

(They wanted to sell me a lot of extra's?) Our company takes every step possible to satisfy are customers needs, I personally apologize if you feel the technician was "hard-selling you". I would assume your phrase of hard-selling would be a form of pressure sales? Our technicians are highly trained to evaluate every component involved in the correct operation of an HVAC system. Sometimes there is multiple solutions to make a home more energy efficient, I know it can be frustrating to hear that so many things are needed to achieve this goal. Our standard practice is to always give are customers options based on the technicians diagnosis, and then it's left up to the customer to say Yes or No. Our company policy is to inform the customer of all the problems, rather than the customer finding out later that we did not bring the items to there attention. (They did ok?) All of the work was inspected by the city and issued a Green Tag of completion, so I know the equipment was installed correctly. I assume you had another issue besides the installation that made you rate us with D's in every category? Our company has an A+ rating with the BBB, and we stand behind all of the work we perform. I wish you could of given us an opportunity to resolve any issues that you had before you rated our company. Our company is not perfect, but we do fix any problems that are caused by honest mistakes. I can only hope that you would give us a call to express what went so wrong, you never expressed any concerns to us during and after installation. Your business was very appreciated and we would be honored to keep you as a customer for life. Please allow us to make you 100% satisfied! .

I like them and I have been dealing with them for quite a while. The air conditioning system wasn't working when I was having the inspection done at the time when I first bought my house which was good. So, my realtor replaced the air conditioning unit and then I found out that the heater wasn't working after I moved in. There was no heat after a week after I had moved in. So, I called my realtor again and he got them to put in a new heater. However, they had a private contractor to get the work done, as it was very expensive, but he did a good job. Initially, I had called Kozy Heating & Air Conditioning to have a look at the heater, as they had installed the air conditioning unit for me. So, the technician took a part and said that he would be dismantling it because it was a safety hazard and also said that I need to get a new one. I was really impressed by the fact that he dismantled it and told me that it's dangerous. He didn't even want me to attempt to get it working. I have had them come in the summer as well as in the winter. They come on time. They are always courteous and clean up after themselves. I have a lot of trust in them. They also had a deal for a 2 year regular on-call service for $ 200 and I accepted that offer wherein I had to pay in advance. They were punctual, as they gave me a time range. They have always been pretty much right at the beginning of whatever time they gave me. If they say that they would be there between 9 to 11, then they used be there by 9 itself. They also call to inform if they are going to be early. They say that they are in the neighborhood and are 15 minutes away. So, they give me plenty of warning before they come and they just don't show up without informing me. In this way I can make sure that I am present when they arrive. Being a woman I don't know how the heating and AC system works, but I have never felt stupid while asking them questions, as they have always been very good with answering questions. I haven't had any problems with the work they have done. The price that they charge is quite average for the kind of work that they do.
Description of Work: I use the services of Kozy Heating & Air Conditioning for my heating and air conditioning system maintenance. Their last visit to my house was probably about 3 weeks ago for a regular heating system clean up.

The sales rep came to my home exactly at the time scheduled and spent 2 hours evaluating my home's heating and a/c needs as well as answering all my questions without trying to hard sale me. I looked up an explanation of the Trane model numbers on my proposal on a website and then showed up at Kozy's office unannounced to ask some more questions. The office manager took me into her office along with the sales rep and spent another hour answering questions. Although her office phone kept ringing, she would send it to voice mail each time in order to give me her full attention. It was great working with people that were not put off with a customer asking question after question! Another HVAC company had quoted me a price for a Trane system that did not include the 2 stage furnace/blower (although he represented it as a variable speed system). Kozy matched his quote but actually with the variable speed furnace/blower. I scheduled the work to be done that Saturday at 8:30am, and they showed up at 8:15am (impressive)! I had the installation manager as well as one of the owners on site during the entire installation and all work was completed by 12:30pm. When the new thermostat was being installed, I noticed that it was not the same as the one I was shown at Kozy's place of business. It was explained to me that it was the standard thermostat that came with my system, so I told them that as long as it worked my system that it was fine with me. To my surprise, before they left, the installation manager apologized to me for the mix up and told me he had called the sales rep about the mix up and that he would be out within the hour to install the thermostat that I was shown (which was actually an upgrade) at no extra charge. I had told the owner at the start of the installation that I was giving my old (but still working) condenser to my widowed neighbor whose condenser had gone out last summer. He told me to give him a call when she could be at home, and he would install it for her at no charge. All he asked was that she remember the name of the company when her friends and coworkers had heating or a/c problems! It's nice doing business with a business that puts people and doing the 'right thing' over making a buck! I told the owner while he and his crew (by the way, he does not use sub-contractors) was doing the installation that I was planning to replace the old duct work myself. He said that he would do it at a discounted price, but I told him that I had already spent enough money and needed to save a little by doing it myself. He told me (are you ready for this!) that when I was ready to do the duct work to give him a call with the materials I needed, and he would get them for me from his supplier at cost! Kozy also gives the best labor warranty of all the companies that came out to give me a quote. When a company is willing to warranty their work longer than the others, then it speaks highly about their installation work.
Description of Work: Replaced heating, a/c and freon lines with a completely new 13 seer 2 stage Trane system.

The project came out very nice and the duct work was hung and installed per building code requirements. The installation was started around 830am and by 500pm the whole project was completed. Their technician Mike came out and charged the system to factory standards and it was blowing cold air. The installers were real nice and courtious. They came in and drapped the entrace and where they were going to work and even cleaned up everthing when completed. They took all the old equipment and duct work away and left the house like no one was even there. They are a family owned company and have their own installation crew. This was a benefit considering a lot of other company's sub out their installation work. The KOZY people are friendly and a great bunch to work with. I would recommend them to anyone wanting a personal touch and great workmanship.
Description of Work: KOZY installed a new 4 ton Trane XI19 air conditioning unit and gas furnace. They also replaced duct work due to old grey back torn and cracked and replaced with new foil backing duct work.

This was the second or third time that we have used them. They had installed the air conditioner about three years ago. They are perfectly willing to come out and also to deal with me over the phone. I am happy with the company. There has been no problems at all. They do show up promptly when you call them.
Description of Work: The air conditioning went out and they looked at it and determined that there was a leak in the freon hose where it went through the brick wall. They repaired the hose.
