They did exactly what they agreed to, and they were careful. They did a very good professional job. They came when they agreed to, and did the job in the time that they said they would. I didn't have anything negative, but a positive experience with them. We had some insulation done, but not the complete insulation needed.

During the original contact there was a mix-up in communication. They didn't get the address down correctly and then when we left a voice mail with the correct address we didn't hear back. Then, we re-contacted them and from then on, things went fine. We chose to wait until after the Christmas and New Year holidays to have the work done. It was completed yesterday, 1/29/09.

Initially when they came they brought fiberglass insulation, there was a miscommunication there. They left and were back within a couple of hours with the correct insulation. They were able to complete the insulation job within a couple of hours after that. They did a very good job. We're having just one little hitch with them and that is a bathroom fan that wasn't working properly afterward. Somebody came out and checked it over but said that the fan was broken. We had one of our sons check it over and he said from the bottom it seems to be working fine, that we have to get up in the attic and get it fixed. So we have to call them back again and see if they'll go up and look at it. Otherwise we were very pleased with the whole job. They were very polite and thorough in the work that they did.

Garland had the best price of four contractors we sought out (including the ones with the 1/2 off deal). They only do insulation and radiant barrier. Radiant barrier was done the first day (turn off your A/C system, even then it does smell) and insulation the next. Each visit was a different crew and took only a couple of hours. It looks as though the job is complete, although I've only looked from the attic entry points. I did see them prepare the protectors for the down light cans. Garland honored the Angie's List coupon. Only concern was when insulation started blowing out of the bathroom fans. Garland came back the next day and corrected the problem, although we're not sure what happened or what they did to fix it.
Description of Work: Installed 2728 SF of spray-on HeatBloc 75 radiant barrier and 2200 SF of Cocoon insulation (R-19 value on top of existing). Our home is about 2300 sq. ft.

I had been told by an A/C technician that I only had approximately 4" of insulation in my attic due to settling over the years, and that I needed to have 18". I called to set up an appointment for a bid, and played telephone tag for a few days, so I was beginning to get somewhat frustrated thinking they were too busy. However, I was very pleased when their estimator timely showed up for his appointment. He was very courteous and professional and answered all the questions I had before I asked them. He told me I didn't need the radiant barrier sprayed in, only the insulation, and I was pleased with his honesty and the bid. He did not charge me for all the extras that I had been warned about by a friend who had recently had another company give him a bid. He told me exactly what the crew would do and how long the job would take. The crew arrived on time and the job took the amount of time promised. I couldn't have been happier with the company and the work they did.

I emailed them and received a call the next day. Art Griffith came to my home and gave me an estimate of how much it would be to at an additional 15 inches of insulation to my attic to bring it up to a r-value of 38. They arrived the following week, shot the insulation into my attic, took approx. 1 hour.

Art Kennedy came out twice to give me an estimate (the first time the whole family was sick with flu, and I had left a message to reschedule, but he didn't get it); but he cheerfully came back about 1 week later. This company gave me the best overall price and didn't try to sell me things that I didn't want (radiant barrier!), which is why in the end I choose them. I was able to schedule the work within a couple days, and the workmen showed up on time. I had no trouble communicating with them. Blown insulation creates a lot of mess, and they did seem to need some encouragement in cleaning up after themselves. I was able to visually verify and measure that they created the depth that I requested for most of the attic, but I still need to crawl up into the attic over the garage to view the remainder of the work (this is harder for me to do since I'm 9 months pregnant!). Art did give me a 10% discount and I was able to charge it on a credit card over the phone.
Description of Work: Installed safety tubes/covers on all my recessed can lights so that they would vent through the thicker layer of blown insulation. Brought my total level of insulation up to R-38 (about 15 inches).

They came out the day after I called them and gave me a quote and explained everything thoroughly. They started work two days later. It took less than 5 days from the estimate to completion. They did the radiant heat barrier the first day and the insulation the second day. They showed up on time, did their job quickly and without disrupting my work - I work from home, so that's often an issue with contractors. My only complaint was that I was not told to turn off my a/c unit during the radiant heat barrier application. The fumes got into the house and it was so toxic that I had to leave for a little while. I called about this and they admitted the mistake and apologized for the inconvenience. I'm looking forward to the tax credit in 2007 and my bills have come down noticeably.
Description of Work: We had radiant heat barrier applied to our 2,500 sf. sq. home and added cellulose insulation. The job was well done and the price was reasonable.

The sales representative who came out to give the initial bid was excellent and arrived on time, professional, provided good advice, and sent a detailed bid by email. The estimate was $800 but I had a 10% off coupon for Angie's List members, so only paid $720. The crew was to arrive between 9 and 12 on a Monday; I called after 12 to find out where they were, and was told it would be 4:30. The scheduler had failed to write down a time frame for our project, and had only written the date. No apology given. Actual arrival time was 6PM. They never introduced themselves, not even the leader of the work group. They needed a light to work under the house, and apparently they took the bulb off our front porch light, which they then broke (and had to ask us for a new bulb). It wasn't until after they left that I realized they had used our porch bulb (because it was missing). On the whole, pretty unprofessional. However, they did the work required and did a good job with the insulation.
Description of Work: Replaced old insulation in crawl space under the house (old insulation was falling down). I called 5 other insulation companies, and this was the only one that did crawl space work.

Art returned my call promptly and arranged to meet me during my lunch hour the next day. He arrived on time and quickly gave me an estimate after checking out the attic. He was very willing to discuss the pros and cons of the different types of insulation. I had an appointment with another company for an estimate so did not schedule that day. I decided to use Garland Insulating because of the price and quality of material. I was able to schedule within a few days of my call. Workers arrived within the time frame specified. They were very nice, worked quickly and cleaned up afterwards. Only drawback was their English was limited, so communication was a little more difficult.

Price quoted ($670) was to add R-17 to 2100 sq ft of attic. I think Art's estimate of the square footage of accessible attic space was a bit on the high side. The estimate assumed that the entire attic space was accessible, but significant parts of the accessible areas were covered with decking, and other regions of my attic are completely inaccessible. They did not add insulation to these areas. I recommend that you do your own back-of-the-envelope calculations to validate those in the estimate. Do this at the time of the estimate; do not assume that you will be able to have this conversation with the work crew (the guys that showed up at my place spoke minimal English). Other than that, everything went OK. They showed at the time promised and took some reasonable steps to avoid damaging anything.

I got this referral from Angie's List. Art had a good recommendation. I left a message at the office, he called back that day to setup an appointment to give us a quote. He showed up on time for the quote and was done within 15 minutes. The quote was in line with others that I had received. The painting and insulation was done on different days, by different crews both within one week of my approving the work. They were in and out of the house within 2 hours each time and cleaned up each time. They missed painting the radiant barrier on one section of the roof with a different attic access. I called the office and they came out the next day to fix the problem. The only problem I had was that the crew expected to leave with a check. If I wanted to use a credit card, I should have told them that at quote. Otherwise, I was very pleased with the work done and noticed an impact on my A/C bill one month later.

The entire job went very smoothly. Estimate was promptly given and clear. Although, this was the week of July 4, I was able to schedule the work in one week. The two-man crew came out the first day in the pouring rain, entered the attic from the garage, and sprayed the radiant barrier on the underside of the entire roof. The crew covered items stored in the attic with plastic sheeting. The next day, another two-man crew came out and blew in the extra insulation. The work went very quickly, the house was left clean, and the entire job was very professionally done.
Description of Work: First day, the underside of my roof was spray painted with a radiant barrier. The next day, loose insulation was blown into the attic, doubling the thickness of the insulation, bringing it up to R-38.
