No one would call me back in response to my inquiries. No live answering of the phone, except for an answering service. Operator would take my phone number and address, and always advised that someone would return my call shortly. No one ever did after my three phone calls. The area manager (Hayden) finally called and left another phone number to call back. I called back and talked to Hayden. He apologized for any inconveniences, and made an appointment to come by the house to give a quote on installation of radian barrier and installation. He failed to show up for the appointment, and never called me back.
Description of Work: Telephone answering service advised that someone would call me right back. I called two additional times, and someone called and left another number to call. I called and set up an appointment for the Houston area manager to come by the house and give me a quote. He did not show up for the appointment, and has never called me back.

I had a horrible experience with another insulation company that canceled service last minute and Rick Lange did everything he could to make it right for me--and quickly. They dealt with my insulation questions and concerns and were very helpful. Garland Insulation saved me $1,175 dollars over the original company due to their honesty and experience. a.) The original company recommended attic vents on my roof for a total of $600. My attic did NOT need any additional ventilation. When the men were working yesterday for 3+ hours doing the hard work of putting batted insulation where I have wires they said that my attic wasn't that hot because there is a good cross breeze from the large side vents. Rick said the same thing when he did the initial bid. They understand older home construction and do not use a one-size fits all approach. Saved me $600 and the hassle of a potential roof leak from cutting a hole in the original wood shingle roof. b.) During his first visit, I explained to Rick Lange that my house has been re-zoned and that it will probably be torn down within the next 2-5 years. There's a lot of uncertainty in my neighborhood and I told him that I just wanted to be able to cool below 95 degrees. He recommended R39 due to the length of time I would be in this house and that I could always add more later. This was also a substantial cost savings from the other company--$575. Garland Insulating has crews that do batted and blow in insulation. It seems that a lot of companies only do blow-in these days. From what I know there are advantages to blow-in, but for me, I wanted to be able to access the wiring to my house and my electrician also recommended batted so that he could see the wires to service them if necessary. I think it's good that they still do batted insulation. Rick Lange (Retro-Fit Specialist) and John Holiski (Operations Manager) were both very helpful. They were committed to making it right for me and both came to my house during the instillation process. The crew and John showed up at 9:30, 30 minutes before the appointment and began working. They put down plastic to protect my floors. They first put batted insulation around the wiring of my home and then did the blow in everywhere else. They worked until 1:00 and Rick checked in around 12:00. Batted insulation is much more labor intensive but I feel better knowing that if I do have to replace my wiring at a later date, all I have to do is move a batt of insulation. Hopefully, it won't be necessary but if it does the batted insulation will make a repair easier. We have had the first 100+ days of the year and my house is finally cooling below 88--I was actually able to get it down to 82 during the 104+ heat yesterday. The insulation is making a HUGE difference. I cannot really explain here how great these guys were. Living in my house was unbearable and they came out quickly and did a great job. I am very grateful for all their help.
Description of Work: I had NO insulation in my attic whatsoever. Came out and installed batted insulation where I had original knob and tube and blow-in everywhere else. In short, Garland Insulating offered HUGE savings and superior customer service and expertise.

Got estimates from 4 different installers and Garland was the only one that installed the baffles at the soffit vents to keep insulation from covering the vents. Hayden Drum was the representative who came to give us the estimate from Garland and he was very thorough and his price was the best. The crew arrived on time and was very efficient. It was a little difficult to communicate with the crew members, but they did everything that was agreed to and did not leave any mess. I have only one small complaint and that is that not all the insulation was cleaned out of the drain pans for the water heater and air conditioners, which could cause the drain lines to become plugged. Over all we were very satisfied.
Description of Work: Added blown in fiberglass insulation in attic of approx. 1025 sq. ft. to provide R19 rating in addition to existing insulation. Placed batts on sloped area where vaulted ceiling from room below protudes into attic. Installed cans around 8 recessed lights and baffles at approx. 20 soffit vents. Also installed an attic tent.

I am very happy with my overall experience with Garland Insulating. First crew came (on time) and sprayed radiant barrier on the bottom of roof decking. Plastic was put on the floor of the garage to keep the area clean. The job was completed and they were very good about cleaning up after themselves. The following week a second crew came (again on time) to add insulation to the attic. They installed cardboard rulers around various locations so that you could see how much insulation is installed. They also insulated the garage walls with cellulose insulation. This crew was also very good about cleaning up after they finished. I can already tell a big difference with the addition of the insulation. Hope the radiant barrier is as effective this summer.

I had a very good experience with Garland Insulating, from the initial quote to the installation. Originally, I called them up and received a quote over the phone based on my rough estimate of what I had in the attic. However, when I asked, one of their salesmen, Art Kennedy, came to my home to perform an in-person estimate. He climbed into my not-easily-accessible attic and dropped his original estimate by about 30% based on the insulation I already had. Then, on the day of installation, the crew arrived promptly at 8am and went to work right away. They were great, and even spent an extra twenty minutes fixing a broken air duct in the attic, which they certainly didn't have to do. (This saved us a large amount of money to get an HVAC person to do it for us). All told, it took about 45 minutes to install the insulation for a 1800 square foot area. At the end of the installation, the crew handed me an invoice, but with a number higher than the original quote! However, I called the main office the next business day, and they quickly resolved the problem. The updated quote had been overlooked in the system, but Garland Insulating quickly refunded me the difference. Everyone I dealt with there was very professional - I only wish other home maintenance companies were as enjoyable to work with.
Description of Work: We had them install about R30 worth of blow-in insulation throughout the home and about R15 worth above the garage.

My call was returned quickly to set up an appointment to get an estimate. I told him I had a very short window of time finishedhen he wanted to come but he said he could be here and be done in that window. He was very prompt and finshed well before the designated time. I was given an estimate which included a discount for using Angie's list. I was given an appointment for the following Wednesday morning. On Wednesday I got up early, took the car out of the garage in preparation for the work but the workers did not show up. I called the office and was not happy with the scheduler who told me she had no information about my appointment and suggested I called the salesman. Since I was working, myself and didn't have time to do her work as well, I asked if she could make the calls and then let me know the status. I never heard back from the scheduler so I called her back. She said she had not yet heard from Art and I asked if she needed to talk to him before making another appointment for me. She gave me an appointment at a time convenient to me. I received a call from Art apologizing for the confusion and he said that he had made an error and had not sent my inforamtion to the scheduler. He offered an additional discount on the price for my inconvenience. I understand that mishaps happen and my judge of a company is how they recover from these mishaps. I thought this was a very good recovery effort. The workers called ahead, and came within their window on the appointment date. The work was performed quickly and efficiently. I was happy with the entire experience except the contacts with the scheduler who had no concept of good customer service.

Overall, Art was professional and willing to work with us for our specific needs with the real estate sale. I would probably call them again for insulation work on our next home.
Description of Work: Called them for an estimate to add some insulation in our attic. We were under time-pressure because this was a result of a home inspection for the buyers contracted to purchase our house. With that knowledge, I was able to get a quote quickly over the phone using our basic square footage. We ended up using another contractor to do the work, however, as the other contractor came in a bit lower.

They did a good job. Actually, we did the estimate over the phone and everything. I gave the gentleman square footage, and he gave me the price. He was good with me. They came on the day we did it. They were in and out in less than 45 minutes. They blew about 10 inches of insulation into my attic. I am very happy with it. My wife thinks it has helped my electric bills. They were good. Two guys come in a truck. One of them got up in the attic and they just blew it all through, but I only had about 4-6 inches up there at the time. They added about 10 inches on top of it. I think their price was very reasonable.

My salesperson (Art) was right on time to our appointment to provide a bid. He evaluated my attic and even provided a bit of history on the type of insulation that I had. He provided a quote and asked where I had heard about the compnay at which time he provided me with a 10% discount. he also reduced his fee a few dollars for areas that would/could not get additional insulation. Service was scheduled for the following Thursday between 7-9am. The crew arrived at 7:30 and ws finished at 10 am. They were curteous and left no mess. i visually inspected the entire attic and confirmed that I gotall of the isulation I was promised. Excellent service. Excellent service in an industry full of unrelaible providers.

They worked with our renter to find a convenient time for the service at the rental home. We set a schedule for our residential home. Service was done quickly. The radiant barrier requires it to dry before insulation is blown in, so there were actually two days for the service. Both "teams" arrived as scheduled and the work was completed in less time than originally estimated. The attics look like a snowstorm! We chose this company because of the length of time they had been in business and their overall reviews.

We also got a bid from a well known company and they really pressured us to hire them and sign a contract immediately. A day following my original email, the president responded regarding my inquiry and provided me with a saleman. Both the president and salesman responded very quickly and clearly. The salesman simply quoted us a price for the added insulation and provided a brochure on why their product was environmentally friendly and effective. We asked the salesman to verify the attic fan however he told my wife he was not able to check it as my roof line was too steep (this is why I wanted them to check it in the first place). He mentioned the unit is a very expensive unit appropriate for the size of attic. He told me to turn the fan's thermostat down to 110 or so to see if it would turn on. Unfortunately, he did not or was unable to check the unit. The quote included insulation and can light protectors due to the upward heat they produce. The installers showed up at 7am and asked me to verify the install request. I asked about the can light protectors and they told me they were not aware this was part of the price. When I told him that is what the salesman told my wife, I counted the can lights, told him the quantity and off they went. They blocked the drive way/alley with their large truck, installed the can light protectors, and blew in the insulation. The entire process took no more than 1.5 hours.
Description of Work: Contractor installed can light protectors and blew in insulation to bring my R value from 19 to 49.

Garland Insulating was very easy to work with. We called the office and they passed along our contact information to Art (their estimator), who called us within 24 hours during a very busy time of year for the company. We set an appointment for Art's visit within a few days of our initial call. He was prompt, knowledgeable and very professional. We booked the work during our meeting to take place just 4 days later. By the way, once we were told how little it would cost to bring our insulation R-value to the standard R-38, we decided to increase the coverage to R-42. The cost was just $100 more and we were given a discount because we are Angie's List members! The 2-man crew arrived at the exact time of the appointment and immediately got to work. Our attic space must be accessed from 4 different portals and is very cramped in some areas. In spite of that, the crew worked quickly and thoroughly. I realize that blown-in insulation doesn't take as long to install as the rolled-in variety, but I was impressed when the crew had completed the work, swept up the few particles of insulation that had fallen from the attic opening and packed up the truck in less than 2 hours. Oh, how I wish all home improvement projects could be as easy.
Description of Work: We needed to add more insulation to the attic space in our 2-story 3100 sq ft home. And we wanted to use a cost-effective "green" product. Research on the internet suggested "US Green Fiber," a blown-in cellulose insulation was the solution for us. And Garland Insulating was one of the few providers of the product in the Dallas area. Lucky for us, Garland Insulating was a top Angie's List company...and for good reason. We would highly recommend their services.

This company came recommended to me from a coworker who had the same thing done. He had multiple estimates, and Garland Insulation was far and away the most cost efficient. Art Kennedy (very nice!!) came out promptly at appointment time, gave me an estimate, so I gave them the go-ahead. They were available to do the work within the week. BTW, I asked if they gave a discount to Angie's List members and they said YES! It was 10% - the original bid was $843; I paid $758 with the discount. Workers arrived within time window (7 am to 9 am) at 7:05 am. Work was done by 7:45. There was no mess or smell. They did a great job and I would highly recommend them.

The visit from the sales guy was quick and easy. He made fast work of assessing my needs and explaining the recommended products. He answered all my questions, and when he found out that I had found them on Angie's List, he immediately reduced the quote (which was already much lower than other quotes I got) by 10%. I was able to schedule the work at my convenience, after I had a few other things done. The workers arrived on time for both days (the radiant barrier spray was installed on one day, the insulation on the next). All of my belongings in the attic were covered by plastic sheeting. The process on both days was quick and convenient for my schedule. The B rating on professionalism is for good-but-not-great polish of the installation crews. At the end of the spray portion, there was some tracking of paint on the floors, but we were able to clean it all up. This is dirty business, for sure, and the day two workers arrived already covered with insulation. There may be no practical way to avoid this. The insulation guys on day two did not have the instructions to look out for my recently installed ventilation nor to install dams on my 8 can lights. We were able to discuss this work prior to him beginning the installation. I do have minor clean up to get the wayward pieces of insulation that broke free during the clean up after day two. None of this would prevent me from recommending them or using them again. It is a good reminder that no matter how good a service provider, as a homeowner I have to be responsible for overseeing the job.
Description of Work: Sprayed radiant barrier spray inside attic and brought insulation (blown in type) up to recommended levels
