The attic decking project went as planned and promised. Jacque mentioned at the end that it was a good "test" project...we thought he meant it was a good project from which we could get to know him and judge his work. In retrospect, we are pretty sure that he actually meant that it was a good project for him to get to know us because it became clear after that that Jacque could care less whether we were happy with his work and the relationship definitely went downhill from there! He gave us a written proposal for each project and indicated a separate price associated for each one. He finished all projects as promised except the vanity project. He asked to be paid in full for that even though he was not finished with the entire project and since we had been reasonably satisfied with his work overall up to that time and the work was mostly done, we agreed and paid him. Then, the problems started. First of all, he did not contact us to finish the work as outlined in the proposal he prepared. When we contacted him, he promised to come and finish it. A week went by and we contacted him again. He promised he would put it on his "to do" list and that he would contact us at least a day ahead when he could come by and finish the items he had left undone. Two days later he showed up at our door without giving us any advance notice - not even a "warning" call. When it turned out to be an inconvenient time for us and we told him so, he said that he had been talked to like "dirt" and that he assumed that we no longer needed his "help." His "help"??? No sir, sorry...it wasn't your "help" we were looking for. We simply wanted him to finish the job he started and was paid in full for completing even though he had not completed it. Even though we did not feel we had been rude or inappropriate in any way by telling him we would need him to reschedule his visit, we did apologize if he was offended and asked him (for the 3rd time!!!) to please come back and finish our project. He said he would have to reschedule for the following week. We agreed and, guess what, he never contacted us again. Sad, really...none of the work he did for us was outstanding and his prices were a bit high given his lack of expertise in some areas, it was mostly adequate and we probably would have used him again in the future for our easy, insignificant projects. No more - if someone will stiff you for what amounts to a $100 or so out of $4200, that's a person for whom integrity is clearly a matter of convenience and money and a person who you can't trust.

Franzen Construction did quality work in a timely manner. They provided detailed photos with their estimates which helped me understand the scope of the work and expectations of each repair. I also appreciated that each estimate was broken down in detail and easy to understand.
Description of Work: We have used Franzen Construction for several projects over the past few months including re-securing a historic newel post on the main staircase, replacing metal screen on porch and doors, caulking bathroom fixtures and cabinets, a complete roof and counter flashing seal and other miscellaneous carpentry jobs.

We recently had a back patio porch roof built by Franzen construction. The primary issue for this complaint is damage that was done while a new cement pad roughly 10'X10' was poured. The underlying irrigation system was damaged and needed to be rerouted. Franzen Construction promised to come out and do the repair, but kept putting us off for other projects and personal reasons. We ended up hiring a 3rd party to fix the issue for $175. Other issues: -- It took a couple months to complete the work. We were originally quoted a couple weeks. -- The contractor chose the wrong paint color and painted most of the porch before he noticed. It was a big hassle getting them to repaint, but they eventually did. -- The cleanup of the yard and materials after they were finished was not adequate. We've picked up literally hundreds of nails, screws and other sharp pieces of metal throughout our entire back yard. -- One of the contractors that worked on the porch had a temper tantrum one day, where he was yelling and threw his tool belt clear across our yard. Overall, the company ended up not being very professional with their delivery of services.

Response from Franzen Construction
In response to the complaints posted by [member name removed], we would like to point out that the patio cover project was delayed due to ice storms and inclement weather beyond our control. As weather permitted, we worked on the project; it is always our goal to efficiently complete a project so we can move to the next one waiting in line. The wrong paint color was purchased after we contacted the home builder who confirmed the wrong color. Because the color was one shade lighter we did not realize it was the wrong color until the paint had time to dry. As soon as we realized the problem it was brought to the home owner's attention. We did ask them to take a look at the color to determine if they would like to keep the slightly lighter color on the ceiling given the house color was very dark and the lighter color may create a more open space feel under the enclosed area. Upon review the homeowner requested we repaint which we did immediately. When the sprinkler issue was brought to our attention we agreed to fix the problem. Again, we faced inclement rainy weather which delayed our ability to repair the system immediately. The homeowner hired a third party who grossly over charged to simply cap a water line where a sprinkler head was no longer needed. It is always our goal to clean up the construction site; we do our best to pick up every nail and screw.
