Excellent! Daryl is a trained professional, so I never worry about mistakes or problems. At every step of the job, he presented us with options and gave us the pros and cons of each one. Not only is he good -- he's fast.
Description of Work: Daryl and Justin removed a chandelier from our dining room ceiling and replaced it with four recessed halogen lights on a dimmer. Later, we consulted about adding a standby generator to my home.

I contacted Mr. Howard last summer for an estimate on a number of electrical issues. At that time it did take several attempts for him to actually make it to a scheduled appointment to complete the estimate. The estimate seemed fair and I was going to shop for a number of light fixtures and schedule the repairs at a later date. Due to a family illness I was not able to schedule the repairs until January 2010. It took countless emails and over four weeks to get an appointment scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday 2/16/10 with Mr. Howard. Since the appointment had been scheduled a week in advance and I had not heard from Mr. Howard since, I emailed him on 2/15 to confirm our appointment. Mr. Howard did not respond to my email. 30 minutes before our appointment, Mr. Howard called to say he should have called the day before but was busy and forgot. He continued saying he had an emergency, he would not be doing my repairs that day, but he would call later in the week to reschedule. Frustrated and angry that I had taken a vacation day for this appointment, I went to Angie's List and found another electrician within minutes that was at my house the same afternoon exactly on time. He provided me with an estimate that was half the cost Mr. Howard had bid six months earlier. Everything on my list as well as a few items he suggested were completed the same day and I was delighted with the prompt and professional service this new electrician provided. Mr. Howard sent me an email that evening explaining his emergency was due to the storm.... snow fall that had occurred 5 days earlier and melted the following day. Seems like the emergency should have been the previous Thursday, Friday or even Monday rather than Tuesday, the day of my appointment.
Description of Work: Various light fixtures removed and replaced, several outlet plugs added. One outlet plug was needed for work to be done by another contractor later in the week.

Response from Daryl Howard - Master Electrician Inc
Your comments are inaccurate. Here is what really happened. I had to postpone your appointment due to an emergency repair on another customer's electrical service from the snow storm. That is true. But everyone in north Texas knows that the snow did NOT melt the next day! The tree limb fell and damaged the customer's service after enduring the weight of the snow for two days. I looked at the service that Sunday and promised the customer that I would repair it as soon as I could. I had another emergency snow storm repair on Monday, so I scheduled the second repair on Tuesday, the day of your appointment. I did not "forget to call". I was (should I say it? ah, why not?) SNOWED UNDER. I'm really sorry that this emergency repair that did thousands of dollars of damage to several of my customers' homes interfered with several light fixtures that you wanted replaced. If YOU were the one freezing to death without any electricity and I told you, "Sorry, I can't repair your service. I have some light fixtures to replace at another customer's home, how would YOU feel? I offered to reschedule, but you had already called someone else. That was your decision, not mine. This customer whose service I repaired was willing to wait several days to get me to do the work, because he is a loyal customer. But he would not have been able to wait much longer. Serious emergencies like that will always take first place in my business. ALWAYS. If you want the whole picture, check out some of the other comments about me on Angie's List.

I was happy with the quality of the work. I appreciated their suggestions. I appreciated their flexibility in using my parts. The "per hour" calculated rate (2 men, ~6 hours) was a little high compared to some others. They will definitely be in the mix for my next job.

It was very smooth with the appointment being set less than a week in advance. The whole process was about an hour. I believe that it was Darrell's son-in-law that did the work, but we had used Darrell himself for another small job before. Both men were very personable and professional and quite willing to make sure that we were satisfied the the work.

I spoke w/ Daryl for about 20 minutes the first time on the phone telling him what we wanted to have done and he made suggestions about a couple of additional pieces I might want to get to result in a better look for the can lights we were replacing w/ pendant lights. It was a couple of weeks later by the time I had everything I needed and we scheduled the work about one week after that. He and his assistant Justin spent about 6 hours performing all the work which was a bit tricky because all of it involved working at 20 feet high. He had to rent a special commercial ladder for the job which he charged to me at his cost (about $100). The job took longer than the half day he estimated over the phone and cost more than estimated but I asked to him work on one of the chandeliers which I had not mentioned to him on the phone. All work performed by Daryl and his assistant was first rate and very fairly priced. I had obtained one other bid which was higher. Daryl is very professional and I had complete confidence that he knew what he was doing. I left them working in my home without worry. We are very pleased with the outcome of the projects he completed. I will call on him again in the future.
Description of Work: Replaced 4 can lights on 20 ft ceiling with pendant lights. Relocated a smoke detector on same 20 ft ceiling to more accessible location. Lowered a chandelier in foyer. Repositioned a dining room chandelier with a swag hook.

He's a really great guy. He's very kind and very concerned that the job is done the right way. He's very thorough and honest. He gave us a lot of options and told us what definitely needed to be taken care of and upgrades that were optional. I'm thinking of having him come out and do some more work for us. He's as flexible as he can be considering that he's very busy.

Daryl's assistant Justin came weeks ahead of time and and bid for the job. He was punctual, professional and courteous. His boss, Daryl, emailed to follow up with a written proposal. I compared his proposal with two other top rated electricians from Angie's list and his was the only one that actually included the installation of the fan and fixtures as I wanted ... and at a reasonable price. I noticed that the other bids said they'd do the electrical work but specifically excluded the installation. Good thing I read their bids too because ... based on price alone ... the bids were pretty close. I chose Daryl Howards because the bid was thorough, I didn't have to ask him to go back and include installation and he got it all right the first time. On installation day ... they showed up with drop-cloths and everything they needed to get the job done including the appropriate color switches, plates, ceiling brackets, wiring, tape, new circuits for the board ... the works. Daryl and Justin worked together perfectly and compatibly as a team and were competent when working in different rooms on electrical too. They showed up around 10am and were done by just after 3pm. Great day's work and the lights and fans and outlets are a wonderful enhancement to the bare-bones electrical provided by the home builder. Do not hesitate to contact and hire these people. Daryl also has a great recipe for his homemade hot and sour soup. Yum! Very healthy and delicious. How many men can do skilled labor and cook?
Description of Work: 1) Added one 120 volt, 20 amp dedicated branch circuit for three (3) new outlets in garage. 2) Installed one new customer furnished ceiling fan (where there was no previous light or fan) in living room, controlled by wall remote switch. 3) Installed customer furnished pendant (island) light fixture w/2 lights in kitchen where there had not been any electrical or light fixtures before, controlled by existing three-way switches that weren't in use. 4) Installed one 120 volt, 20 amp dedicated circuit to one outlet in exercise room for power to treadmill. 5) Gave me a great homemade recipe for Chinese Hot & Sour soup.

Daryl Howard was very helpful in determining a lower cost way to accomplish the job. I was very impressed with the professionalism of Daryl as well as the electrician that he assigned to do the work. Everything was accomplished quickly and the cost was below the original estimate and was very reasonable. I will definitely use this company in the future.

Daryl is fantastic. I highly recommend his work. He was courteous, prompt, and his estimate matched the final bill exactly. He explained every step of the project in detail and used the best quality equipment to get the job done. His crew left no mess and finished on time. This was easily one of the best investments I've ever made and Daryl will be the first person I call for future electrical work.
Description of Work: Daryl and his crew removed an old Federal Pacific breaker panel, installed a new breaker panel with 200amp load, raised the main service line to the house, buried the service line to the garage, checked all outlets for proper grounding, set up a dedicated circuit for computer equipment, installed an extra outlet in the kitchen, and installed gfci outlets in each room.

Mr. Howard arrived at our house as scheduled. Went through the house quite thoroughly with me. Had several very useful suggestions on how to accomplish requested tasks. I gave him a typed, itemized list of the requested projects. He said he'd try to get me an estimate that weekend. I didn't hear back, so I sent him (by email) another itemized list with alterations given his recommendations. I tried calling him four times over the next couple of weeks, but never heard back.

IF YOUR ONLY COMPLAINT WAS THAT I WAS VERY BUSY AND COULDN'T GET TO THE WORK, THAT'S ONE OF THE BEST COMPLIMENTS I COULD EVER RECEIVE! THANKS! MAYBE I CAN BE AVAILABLE TO HELP YOU IN THE FUTURE. I'D RATHER STAY A SMALL COMPANY AND DO EXCELLENT QUALITY WORK THAN HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE TO SHOW UP THE SAME DAY AND DO LOUSY WORK, LIKE SO MANY OTHER ELECTRICIANS HAVE DONE.

Had to schedule with Daryl several weeks in advance as he is very busy, but he and his crew showed up and replaced old equipment and put in new breaker panel with a good eye to detail and quality. It did take almost a full day without power until new service was up and connected, but food in freezer was fine. Compared to two other bids, he was the least expensive and I am very happy with his work and would definitely hire him again if I needed further electrical work.
Description of Work: Replaced original circuit breakers and panel from 1950's that didn't trip properly along with meter base, weather cap, and wiring from top of roof all the way to new panel as well as added grounding rod. New panel and wiring is 200 amp rated.

Daryl called when he got held up and would be a few minutes late. He showed up ready to work, kept the job clean, and got our backyard lights working when several other electricians had told me it wasn't possible (they thought that the wiring had been cut). I have talked to two inspectors and three electricians about our aluminum wiring, but he was able to teach me things I didn't know about it. He didn't waste time, worked continuously and was fairly priced. I would hire him again in a hot minute!
