I'm an existing customer. The first two years things went really well. 2 years ago it started becoming difficult to get them to commit to an appointment. This last year, service pretty much fell off the cliff. The first week of August, I contacted them. I let them know that I had new ground cover that was starting to fry. Their service tech asked if I could hand water & they would be out in about 2 days. I said yes. 5 days later, August 8th, I contacted them again. Committed to the 9th or worst case 10th. Nothing. August 10th I again contacted him & was told they were trying to make it that day & would keep me posted. Nothing. September 7th I called & left a voice mail. I also sent a text. No reply. I've been hand watering for over a month now. Now I'm trying to find some credible replacement. I highly recommend that you skip this company.
All I needed was for my sprinkler system to be serviced going into autumn, plus there was a head in front that had come loose, resulting in a geyser when the sprinkler cycled on. I called the manufacturer who installed the system and they provided me with the phone number for Complete Landsculpture in Dallas. Issues (#3 is the major one and the reason for the poor rating): 1) The large group of guys seemed to speak no English whatsoever, making it impossible to show them where the problem sprinkler head was. They were here just shy of one hour then, as I was passing a window, I saw that they were in their truck and realized they were leaving. I went outside to see what they had done and if they were finished. Even with the language issue, I thought they'd have a receipt they would leave, if only to show they had been here. Nothing. I called the office, but they weren't able to help, saying that I would receive a bill that showed whatever work had been done. I explained that this bothered me because I could potentially be charged for work I wasn't aware of and, consequently, hadn't authorized. 2) Late in the day, I happened to walk through the garage and saw that the sprinkler box door was slightly ajar. When I went to close it, I saw an "inspection report" folded up and tucked inside -- the guys had left it. It seemed to indicate that two heads were repaired (I was only aware of one broken) and that they had changed two heads (no idea why -- only one was a problem). Interestingly, the details were all written in detailed English 3) The biggest issue and why gave them 1 star: several weeks later, the bill showed up. I had been quoted a labor rate of $75 per hour, yet the bill stated $183 for labor. The guys were here less than one hour (7:30 - 8:24 am, to be precise) -- clearly, the math wasn't adding up. I tried calling several times, but no one returned the call. So I finally just wrote a note on the bill and mailed it to them. When Craig called me (today), he sounded pretty ticked that I was questioning his bill. He said that they charged me drive time, in addition to the time the guys were actually here. When I scheduled the appointment, I specifically asked about their hourly labor rate and was told it would be $75/hour. At no time was I told they would also charge for drive time just to get to my house or I would never have used Complete Landsculpture.. So, doing the math, $183 divided by $75 hourly charge means they charged me for two hours and 44 minutes -- so it took two hours to make the drive to my house? From Sandy Lane in Dallas which, according to Google Maps, is 18 miles from my house and would seem to indicate that they left their office around 5:30 am. It simply isn't adding up. The total bill was $206.81 as follows: Glue, primer, miscellaneous $5.00 Labor $183.00 1 sprinkler part $18.00 Tax $1.81 Very disappointed.
Description of Work: They were just asked to replace a broken sprinkler head and to check out the system before fall.

I had a number of landscape project needs at my house and contacted CL based upon a recommendation from our HOA. This included garden bed edging, entry walkway repair, drainage installation and connection to gutter downspouts, a paver patio, an arbor over the patio, a built-in BBQ and bar seating area. From my pocketbook, this was a sizable project. My budget was $30-40K. After contacting CL, someone promptly returned my call and we agreed to meet at my house for initial discussions. We had a series of meetings to go over all details and pricing. Unfortunately, this didn't proceed as well as I had expected. I do understand that contractors need to gauge the "seriousness" of the client to ensure they aren't just window shopping before they put too much wasted effort into a project. I had pen and checkbook in hand, but evidently my project didn't warrant enough priority to get the attention needed. I had suspicions after our 3rd meeting that didn't include enough finalizing of details. After our 4th meeting which didn't go too well, I decided to look elsewhere. I sent an email explaining my intentions along with my reasoning which included a lack of documented project details and inaccuracies that remained with some very basic aspects of the project. To their credit, they did respond with a sincere mea culpa email. I can't be certain of the exact reasons, but it was probably somewhere along the lines of too many commitments and not enough time or this was not a big ($) enough project for them. They did offer to make things right, but my mind was already set to look elsewhere and I don't believe changing back in this situation is generally wise. The individuals I spoke with seemed to know what they were doing and I'm guessing they would deliver a quality product...however they did not give me to opportunity to find out.
Description of Work: We had multiple meetings to discuss project needs and pricing. Unfortunately, we did not get to the contract signing stage.

I've been using Complete Landsculpture to maintain my sprinkler system for at least 10 years. I believe they are honest and thorough on the work performed on my property. I don't have to be present for these calls. They know where the controller is and they run the tests and fix the broken heads then bill me. I'm very satisfied with this provider.

I will start by saying the final product looks great. However, the process to actually get an estimate and have the work performed was excruciating. We first contacted Complete Landsculpture in early April. It took several days for a sales rep to call us back. Our rep came out on a Tuesday and indicated he would have an estimate to us by Friday. I did not receive one, so I contacted him on Monday the following week. We received the estimate the next day. We reviewed the plan, made some adjustments and sent over our plot survey two days later. We expected to have drawings by the end of the week so we could submit them to our HOA. At each intersection of the project there was an overall lack of response to both emails and voicemails. It took from April 22nd until May 1st to receive drawings. While this may not be an issue for some, we are required to submit plans and have them approved before any work is done. We had work scheduled for Monday May 5th, so receiving drawings with only one full business day to get them approved put us in a tough situation. We had tree work scheduled for the morning of May 5th. At 11:00 am I received an email from our rep saying that the tree trimming had been pushed back due to delays from other jobs, would not be completed that day, and had been rescheduled for Wednesday May 7th. We had also scheduled the landscaping to be completed that day, so I emailed back asking if that was going to conflict having both crews there. I did not receive any response to that email. At 6:51 am on Tuesday our rep sent an email saying the tree crew was able to come out early and they were on there way. Since I do not check my email at 6:50 am, I was awoken by people at my front door at 7:00 am. While I found it very frustrating to receive a 10 minute notice so early in the morning via email (particularly with a general lack of communication up to that point) I have to say the tree trimming crew did a very good job and the trees look excellent. As scheduled, the landscaping crew came out the next day to complete the project. They did a very good job and it turned out well. When I arrived home Wednesday I was thrilled at how the yard looked. However, with no correspondence, an additional crew arrived at my home on Thursday morning. I asked the crew what they were there to do and they indicated they were working on the sprinkler system. I knew that was part of the bid, but assumed it was taken care of Wednesday. When I arrived home Thursday, I again thought the work had been completed. However, once again with no correspondence, another crew arrived Friday. Unfortunately I was not home at the time and did not connect with them. I received a call from a crew member that stopped by and we made arrangements for him to come out Monday - apparently to work on the sprinklers again. He came out Monday and replaced two sprinker heads - something that took about 10 minutes. Overall I am happy with the end result, but the complete lack of communication was incredibly frustrating. It has been several months and one of the plants that was transplanted from another area of the lawn has died. Apparently because it is not a plant they brought in it is not covered and they will not replace it - despite the fact that it was healthy prior to it being moved. I also contacted my rep about redoing our driveway and power washing / restaining the back deck. It took over a week to return the first voicemail about the new project, several more voicemails and emails over the past few weeks and I finally (after almost a month) received an estimate yesterday. It is almost double the other estimates I received for the same project. I will not be using this company again and would not recommend them in the future due to the communication issues and pricing.
Description of Work: Tree trimming, redo flower beds, install metal border, replace 120 sq ft of sod. Contact was also made to obtain a bid for redoing the driveway, but those services were not performed.

Email sent as set out below: From: Robert Grunnah Sent: Tuesday, November 13, 2012 9:17 PM To: 'Mike Freeman' Subject: RE: Complete Landsculpture Well, here it is six months later. Well over half the plant material you installed is dead, the rest looks like crap. The sprinkler heads your inept crew was to have fixed, after three tries, had to be fixed by a professional installer, not incompetents. Investigation of the soil material you were to have installed showed only a few inches of mulch cast over the original soil. It was not mixed in, nor even in contact with the new plants. You made zero follow ups to comply with your guarantee. All in all, a complete sham, a joke and I fell for your aggressive sales effort. I should have known better. And, you wanted to charge me $500.00 to haul away what would have fit in my garbage can. How much do you charge for hauling away your despicable effort? You and your organization are crooks, and I will pursue with great vigor my options to compensate. Robert SR

I was happy with the response I got from Complete Land sculpture. Their bid was higher than I expected and I didn't go with them. I had an idea and they came up with some ideas, but their idea made the project too expensive for me. They were knowledgeable and I think they can do a good job. They have a good reputation in this area and a great website. They also have a lot of pictures in their portfolio. They're very professional. I would use them again, but I would also look at other bids.

I didn't hire complete because of perceived lack of knowledge and inexperience.
Description of Work: My sprinkler system stopped working in the midst of the drought last summer and most of my ground cover and much of my grass was lost. Complete was one of three companies which I contacted for an estimate. 2 representatives came out to assess and provide a bid. They seemed somewhat inexperienced but were prompt and courteous. The job needed was to get the irrigation working and to replace the destroyed vegetation. The bid on the vegetation was roughly that of the competition, maybe a little on the high side but not by much. The reason I didn't use them was because of their assessment of the irrigation problem. Squirrels had chewed through the rain gauge sensor and the system was malfunctioning as a result. I suggested that this was the case but the salesman told me he seriously doubted that it was the case. He told me that if it was the case, then cutting the wire to the sensor would solve it. It didn't but that was no real surprise and would have to be replaced anyway. Disconnecting it would have but he didn't know that. He said I needed a whole new timer system and the quote he provided was for hundreds of dollars in unnecessary equipment. I contacted one of the other companies who began work within days, replaced the rain sensor and a new timer was not required. Serious lack of expertise would have cost me a lot of money to fix a problem that required only a simple solution.

Description of Work: Complete Landsculpture designed and built our outside living area when we were building our house. The area is beautiful and looks as good today as the day it was completed. Their people are professional and easy to work with. They finishd the project on time and provided updates along the way. This is the second time we have used them for design work and wouldn't think of calling anyone else. They provided the design of our landscaping also and we use them on a monthly basis to maintain.

They definitely did a lot of work, but I was a bit disappointed that they didn't remove ANY of the stumps of the trees they removed. Overall, I felt like I got a lot of work for the money, so I didn't say anything, but I did feel like the job was a bit incomplete in that sense. Even so, I would definitely hire them for this kind of work again. They were very accommodating and offered to do any trimming work we wanted within the time alloted. They did call to let me know when they had to reschedule or were late - these things happen and I was just glad to have the call instead of a total no-show.
Description of Work: A full day of work by two tree trimmers in our backyard. They removed a very large soap berry tree and significantly trimmed several live oaks and a 100 year old elm tree. They also removed several much smaller trees as requested.

They showed up when scheduled, maintained contact with me throughout the job and took good care of my property. Each day the work area was left orderly and the equipment and supplies out of the way. I enjoyed working with them and plan to have them back to work on another section of my back yard.
Description of Work: On the first job-they removed concrete walkway from driveway to the front porch. A walkway using flagstone was made and leads to my new larger front porch matching the stone used on the path. The walkway area was made into a garden with plants and trellis' on the wall. They redesigned flower bed in front, kept my established shrubs and added roses and other perennials. In the backyard, they created a flagstone walkway through the back garden and re-designed garden landscaping on the east side of the yard incorporating existing shrubs and adding new plants. The fence was repaired and treated to last a few years longer. They removed a brick planter from the patio-- They dug a trench so gutters now empty in the yard instead of the walkway- I didn't think of this, but they did and with no extra charge--I was thrilled! They returned in March to trim the trees damaged by the winter freeze and for the regular trimming needed. I have been very happy with the results.

Within a week of the installation, MANY plants began to die. I called to get replacements, since I had a warranty. No reply. I left message after message. It wasn't until the initial warranty period was over that Complete began an aggressive campaign to collect the second half of the money I owed them. I thought that was interesting. They were totally unresponsive to me until the initial warranty period was over. When we were in court later, the judge brought up the same point, since their own records proved this. Finally, after several months of begging, and refusing to pay them unless they replaced my dead plants, Complete sent a couple of guys over with some plants, who came over unannounced, when I wasn't home, and jumped my fence, and planted a few replacement plants, but not anywhere near enough to replace all of those that had died. They left muddy bootprints all over my stone walkway, and up and down my painted wood fence where they jumped in and out of my side garden. It was very clear that : a) many of the plants were very unhealthy when they were originally planted. b) because many of the plants needed full or partial sun and were not getting ANY sun, they were not doing well at ALL. c) many of the plants could not possibly get sufficient water because of the design of my sprinkler system. Thus, these idiots had failed at the most basic concepts of landscape design and installation. In the end, they refused to fix the problems, and I refused to pay them the other half of their money. So they sued me. Before we went to court, I hired another company, Grow It!, to come out and take a look. Remember Juan, the guy who transplanted my crepe myrtle? He hooked up with another former Complete employee and they started their own company. When they came over, they dished out all the dirt on Complete (pun intended). They told me about how Complete steals good specimens and resells them to other customers, as I explained above, and how they grossly overestimate the number of plants or the amount of soil or peat moss, or mulch, and sell that amount to the customer, only to take all of the unused portion (often half of it is not used), and then re-sell the remainder to another customer. I showed them my estimate of how much dirt, mulch and peat moss they had ordered for my job. They almost died laughing. They demonstrated to me, ON VIDEO, how much of each I really needed for my job, and the fact that I had been totally ripped off. That video was used as evidence in the trial. I ended up needing my entire sprinkler system revamped, and I had about a hundred new plants installed, but in the proper places after a shade analysis. I countersued those dumb-a**** and won the whole thing. They ended up paying my attorneys fees and everything. COMPLETE IS A NASTY, NASTY COMPANY. BEWARE!
Description of Work: Complete gave me an estimate to landscape my entire house. We ended up just hiring them to landscape our side garden. They installed azelias, aspidistra, wood ferns, varigated ginger, hosta, nandinas, cleyera, hydrangias, silverdragon, and some flowers. They also installed some new soil and mulch. The entire installation took 4 guys about 6 hours to install everything. They also removed one of the crepe myrtles that were there (the best specimen of the three I had), and told me that it had to go, there was no way to incorporate it into the new design. They told me that they would dispose of it for me. I inquired as to whether it could be transplanted to the front corner of my house, and the project manager, Jody Maze, told me, no, it would never survive the transplantation. The job foreman, Juan, told me in Spanish (I speak Spanish), "I will personally guarantee you that the tree will survive transplantation, and I will do it myself." Once Jody saw that Juan was going to transplant it, she tried to charge me $200 to transplant it. Juan told her, no, he would do it for free. It took him only about 20 minutes to do the entire transplantation. The tree is still healthy and vibrant to this day, 10 years later. Juan later told me that Complete does this all the time - they will take your good trees or other plants like that, and then sell them to other customers. He said that they have their own greenhouses on their property where they store such plants. He told me that a tree like the one I had (about 10 feet tall) would sell retail for about $250-$300. Prior to the installation, during the VERY brief (less than 1 hour) inspection and mapping of my property, the Complete inspector who came to my house never did a shade analysis. This was in spite of the fact that my side garden was only about six feet wide, and butted up against my neighbor's brick wall/house (zero lot line), and in spite of the fact that I had two 50 foot bald cypress trees in the garden. They also did not do an analysis of my sprinkler system to ensure that my existing system would be able to water the new plants in the positions that they were in. During the installation, I turned on my sprinklers and asked Jody to tell me whether the water would be sufficiently broadcast to cover all of the new plants. She ensured me that my existing system would be more than adequate. The entire job was going to cost $5,000. I paid $2,500 up front, with the understanding that I would pay the other $2,500 once the job was finished. On the day of the installation, Jody never asked for the other half of the money, so I didn't remember to pay it.
The entire scope of the project was well done. The repairs and sealing to the fence made a 15 yr old fence look new-- The sprinkler system was adjusted to accomodate the new plantings and walkways. Everyone on the project was very polite amd went out of their way to keep everything neat. The men from CL working in and around the yard had to accomodate other workmen and sawdust on the patio from repair and replacement of interior wood floors.
Description of Work: First, the plan and drawing were inspiring. The work included a front garden makeover in addition to a new front walkway and porch as well as a makeover & update to existing garden spaces in backyard. The 15 yr old fence and a gate were repaired as needed and sealed. The gardens and stone pathways are better than I could have imagined. I've had lots of complements about my gardens on behalf of the work done by CL. I look forward to doing more in the future.

It was quite a bit like babysitting. I had to monitor my own contract and ask, call, and beg them to do the things that were agreed on in the contract. Et al, fertilize, trim shrubs, and on and on. They broke boards on my new fence. They scratched a car squeezing into a small space rather than going around to the main gate. They were sloppy and careless. This company was contacted on numerous occasions to correct their wrongs. I finally sent an email to the owner, without any resolution or feedback. This company was referred to me by a company I found on Angie's List. I tried unsuccessfully to have them do some 'landscaping.' I needed plants and flowers planted, and some stone work...never could get anyone to commit to do it or contact me. It was always ok I will call you. I am still waiting on a return call from July 2007. This company is completely unorganized and without leadership. If anyone is using them at the present, please look at your contract. I feel confident they are not upholding their end of the bargain. I would never recommend them to anyone. The only plus is that they did arrive every week.
