Initial Meeting went well. Price was fair. CCI asssited with design for city permit. Once the work began, it was apparent that they had their own idea of what my circle drive should look like. Thankfully I was home during this preporation time and was able to provide input as to the design of the circle drive and its functionality. Had I not stepped in it would have been almost impossible to have entered once side of the drive without driving through the yard grass. The day of the pour went well, but as another person commented the balance of the money was due while the concrete was still wet. At this point, I had felt a little rushed, was a little discouraged at how the driveway design was almost a disaster, but liked the finished product. CCI contracts out a different crew to pour and spread the concrete and that crew did fabulous work. It appears that CCI just does all the prep work, lays the stell, and then contracts out the pour. Even with my suggestions to change the design of the driveway, I figured out a day or so after the pour that the driveway was still a little off, but was usable and I was satisfied. I wish I would have listened to my wife and made a few more minor adjustments because one thing about concrete, once it is installed and dried its there and you can't change it without a bust out and re-pour. About three weeks after the job is where the real problem began. They attached a circular driveway up against my existing driveway. Normally when new concrete meets existing conctrete the steel is tied into the existing concrete to prevent a shift between the two slabs. I felt pretty sure they had done this, but this having been my first concrete job I didn't think to look for that type of thing. The new circular drivway started to rise up about an inch to 2 inches above the existing driveway within about 3 weeks. When the conrete was wet and drying it looked great, but three weeks later it started looking terrible. Suddenly I started thinking perhaps they should have put some sort of expansion joint, ot wondering if they did in fact tie the two slabs together with steel. I started placing calls to CCI concrete so that the owner could come out and take a look and perhaps provide a solution. Over the next two months I made about 6-8 calls and was never able to reach Doug Nugent. I kept talking to the secretary, or assitant (whoever it was) and I kept insisting he call me back, but he never did. Finally I gave up and resided to the fact that much like a storm chaser, this company that offers $3.50 sq.ft concrete is a pour and go, never look back company. I wish I had done more research to find a respeactable concrete company prior to doing this work. We were in a little bit of a hurry to get the work done, and CCI had a good price so we pulled the trigger and went with them without getting any other estimates. Doug Nugent is high energy and that didnt bother me; he really gives you a sense that he knows what he is doing and he will get the job done. Unfortunately, in the end, when a problem arises, he is nowhere to be found. My advice to anyone looking for concrete work is do your homework, understand what needs to be done properly before the concrete is poured, and make sure you get several estimates. It might be a good idea as well to find out up front what, if any, type off warranty the contractor offers in the event that there are problems that show up after the concrete job is complete.

We hired Doug Nugent to pour a concrete and pier foundation for our new detached 2-car garage. While he was very enthusiastic and cooperative at the first meeting and at the contract signing, it took about 4 months to get it started. There was some bad weather, but there was no contact when the weather permitted and it could have been started. He did finally do the job in a timely manner once it was started, but he breached his contract. While he agreed and signed to taking full payment at the completion of the project, he demanded half payment during the middle of the job. He then flared up and demanded the remaining amount when the concrete was still wet and the form boards were still attached with a very messy work site. His flaring temper and unprofessional demeanor made him very difficult to deal with. He also convinced us that we needed a larger apron than what was specified on the plans and then charged us an unexpected $6.00 per s.f. for simple flat pouring that he advertises for at $3.50, which, again, was not part of the original plans. Personally, he is a very fast talker and always exhibits a sense of immediacy, which is uncomfortable in doing business with him.

This guy has crews that drive around in red trucks and vans that say 3.50 sq. f.t special tear out and replace. Our price was a little higher but still seemed reasonable. The problems started after tearing out the patio. It was over 6 weeks before he came back to lay the new concrete. The concrete a a lump of asphalt which floated to the surface and the step down so the garage door has big cracks exposing the layer of sand that they layed to prep the ground. He refuses to fix the problems stating that he charged too little to start. He has also lied to us on 3 occasions. His demeanor is unprofessional. His work is sub par as he does volume of quality.

I've been general contractor on 4 houses. Doug is a very high powered personality. He matches his enthusiasm with an equally strong work ethic. He's one of the hardest working concrete guys I've ever encountered. He has a high regard for his finished product quality. His pricing was the lowest of 8 written bids I received. Like most sub-contractors, you have to get a complete scope of work and costs in writing up front, before the work starts. During the job, I decided to have him add 50 feet of curb along one side of the driveway for which he charged $20/linear foot. Seemed a little high but I intended to give him a performance bonus for the work above his price so that took up that. I received bids from $7/sq. ft down for flat work. Average pricing was around $5/sq. ft. Doug is reputable, direct, very cost competitive and does what he says he'll do. I'd use him again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Doug Nugent is a hands-on concrete contractor. He features a $3.50/sq. ft. price on driveways. He is reached on his cell phone. He personally broke up and removed the existing driveway, containerized it and properly disposed of it via dump truck, smoothed the pad with his own bob-cat, laid a sand base, shot the grade and formed the pour. He obtained the city permit and met personally with the inspector, met their requirements to receive a green tag. His crew installed tied 3/8" rebar set on 18" centers, poured, screened and feathered the 3,000 psi concrete. The job was poured on Halloween. Doug completely fenced off the job with rebar poles and yellow caution tape, and remained on hand until after 9 pm to ensure no little neighborhood goblins stumbled into or disturbed the job. I was quite impressed. He knows his next job depends on how he performs today.

I am extremely unsatisfied with the work this company did for me. They were not professional, they left unfinished concrete on my driveway and the garage door ended up with cement on it. They left a mess with cement and tire tracks on my lawn. It took then a while to paint my garage and the owner is just hard to deal with. I wouldn t recommend them.
Description of Work: They poured a 350 square foot, concrete driveway in front of my garage and it took them approximately three days to complete the project.
