Tony Stokley did a walk around. He said I needed 21 piers - and I knew right away that was wrong. He took no measurements and told me why - he quoted me the price for the work - $12000. I decided that I needed a structural engineer to look at it before I had any more foundation companies come out. So, I did have a structural engineer come out who took measurements and said I did not need foundation work. What I was seeing was pretty normal settling over the years. The $295 I spent for a structural engineer was well worth it.
Description of Work: I was concerned about some settling going on around my house - nothing major - so did research on who to call and decided Brown was the way to go. Tony Stokley was very friendly and we set up a time for him to come out. When he arrived, I showed him all the areas of concern - indications of settling - no zig zag cracks in the brick though - just gaps around a couple of windows and some areas inside of concern.

The work was done in advance of the original due date because they had an earlier opening. The work was well done. The result was just as we expected and we don't have any problems with them. They told us up front what they could do and they did everything that was required. I think that they actually did a little more than I expected. The cleanup was immaculate. We have previously had estimates from them over the years where they have explained to us that they could do the jobs. However, they would provide us with information on what steps to takes to avoid them from having to do work because the damage was not severe enough to warrant their involvement. Their follow up very good as well.
Description of Work: They installed twenty concrete piers to raise the foundation to as level as it could be. The work was completed also close the cracks of the walls on the interior to make it possible for the doors to properly open and close.

Work was done professionally and on schedule. The price was a bit higher than two other estimates. The cleanup was a bit lacking. One section of flower bed edging was not reinstalled. It had been moved to the edge of my property and both the site supervisor and I missed it during the walk around. They were a bit rushed upon completion at the end of the day. I recommend them based on the quality of their work. Their affiliated plumbing company that was to do the leak checks failed to show up when scheduled.

Great. Problem solved. The company had my best interest at heart even when they had no revenue to gain.
Description of Work: Tony came to our home after our entire kitchen floor buckled up. He walked around the perimeter of the house educating me on what to look for if the foundation has shifted. After telling me that I did not have a foundation problem, he offered to come back to the house after my kitchen tile was pulled up (again at no cost) and help me problem solve to determine the cause of the buckling. The owner returned the day that the kitchen floor was raised and told me that there was simply a dip in the slab that allowed an air pocket to break the seal of the tile. Even though Brown Foundation was pretty sure that there was nothing that they could do for us to make any money, they nonetheless wanted to help me find the root of the problem. I am overwhelmed with their sense of high morals. An amazing company.

Tony came out to the house to give a free estimate on March 7th. He walked throughout the house -- inside and outside taking measurements with a machine to get the levelness of the house. The house was built back in 1950's and I was pleasantly surprised to how level it was concerning the age of the house. After going over the process of what would be done and how long it would take, giving me a brochure to show exactly how the process would go (it went exactly as shown to me) I decided I liked everything about this company and went with them for the repair work. They started May 7th and the crew of 5 showed up on time and each guy was very professional. If I had a question, they didn't hesitate to answer and they had no problem me watching what they were doing. This was step 1 of the drilled piers process and so Brown returned 7 days later (May 14th) to complete the work. Even though it was a different crew that showed up this time, they again were on time and professional. I am very pleased with the quality of work, the professionalism of the crews and definitely would use them again.

1. We had an indpendent engineer assess the foundation and prepare a report including a contour map of the founation. 2. The Brown estimator assessed the foundation and prepared a estimate and provided a very professional explanation of their services and what we should expect. He too prepared a contour map. We wanted a long term, engineered and more permanent solution which is why we selected Brown. 3. The independent engineer suggested several more piers than Brown did so we asked Brown to put in the additional piers. 4. Brown crews successfully completed the work despite heavy rains that filled the holes they had dug. 5. We did do a a walk around and did notice some concrete smeared against one wall and some other concrete gravel in the yard. Once contacted , Brown cleaned it up. 6. The crew doing the lifting was very careful and to measurements in the house during the process. We did notice a few more wall cracks after the lifting. However, this was to be expected. We will wait around 6 months to be sure the house has resettled and then have all wall cracks fixed. 7. Anyone having their foundation repaired must expect noise, dirt and some disruption. 8. We were quite pleased with the Brown proposal and their work.

Representative came to my home and gave it a thorough inspection, inside and outside. He informed me that the cracks I was concerned about were minor and showed me what my windows and doors would look like if I needed foundation repair. He pointed out a small crack beginning on one corner of my house and advised that it may be a problem in the future but was not a concern right now.......just keep watering around the slab. I appreciated his honesty and helpfulness.

They had a pretty high rating on Angie's list and we did not have the good experience with them that we had hoped. The sales consultant came out and explained the process. After the first contact, that was the last time we saw of him even after we had questions about the work. We were told that they would dig and put in the piers all in one day. They were not able to do the piers the the day they said because they were not able to get concrete but we were not informed till the day of the work. Luckily we were able to be around two days later to moniter the work. The workers that came out did a pretty good job. If you called the office about a question or the arrival of the workers they seemed to have no clue what was going on. It was not the customer service you expected. A week later they came out and did the adjustment of the piers. A disappointment that we had with them was with our bushes. They removed the bushes and replaced them in different spots. We knew the possibility of losing our bushes but instead of putting the dirt and bushes back where they got them they just quickly filled in the holes. they had made nice piles of dirt with protecting the bushes in them. They just put them anywhere that they could. We tried to contact the company several time about setting up the hydrostatic test for our plumbing and they kept saying the plumber would contact us. After three weeks finally they hired a plumbing service to call us and do the test so that we could begin to fix any plumbing leaks we might have. We did have some leaks that were fixed. After 5-6 months later we noticed that one of our doors on the side of the house where there was several piers was not shutting correctly. Luckily we were waiting till the summer to fix the cracks due to the foundation because now they have to still come out and readjust some of the piers again. I am concerned about our fixed plumbing but they have assured us they will not have to dig that deep. I am confused as to why the piers were not adjusted right the first time.
Description of Work: We had 22 piers put in around our house. We also had a hydrostatic test done on plumbing done by plumber that was hired by foundation company.

We discovered that the hot dry summer of 2011 had done it's damage on our house and one corner of the house was definitely lower than the rest of the house. This led to doors not shutting and windows leaking. When we did get a small rain in October we had a flood come under the seal plate at the front of our house and through the house toward the low corner. After Brown Foundation investigated the extent of the foundation slope we understood the importance of getting the house leveled. Brown recommended several outside piers and two inside piers under our masonry fireplace and also mud jacking the sunken living room in order to stabilize the slab after the foundation was leveled. The only negative was one that Brown had no control over and that was there were more people like me in 2011 than in most years and we had to wait for more than a month to fit into their schedule. We were able to get in on a first available list sooner than they quoted, which helped us finish before Christmas. Brown did what they quoted and the crews were very knowledgeable and courteous. I would use Brown again.
Description of Work: Brown dug 10 outside foundation piers and leveled the corner of my house that was 3" low from the hot summer of 2011. They also installed two inside pillow piers under my masonry fireplace and mud jacked the slab to stabilize it after leveling the house with the piers.

I HAVE USED THEM IN THE PAST TO INSTALL 17 PIERS ON MY HOME. WORK WAS PERFORMED TO MY SATISFACTION THEN AND PIERS HAD HELP UP UNTIL THE DROUGHT OF 2011. CALLED THEM BACK OUT TO PERFORM WARRANTY WORK ON FRONT OF HOUSE SINCE THE HOUSE HAD DROPPED ABOUT 1.5" ON THE SE CORNER. WE DECIDED TO HAVE THEM PERFORM SOME ADDITIONAL WORK ON THE GARAGE AND BACK OF THE HOUSE SINCE THEY WERE GOING TO BE ONSITE. WORK PROGRESSED WELL, HOWEVER CREW FOREMAN APPARENTLY WAS NOT INFORMED THAT THE CONCRETE PIERS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE INSTALLED 9' DEEP FROM GRADE. AS THEY WERE AUGERING IN THE HOLES THE FOREMAN NOTIFIED ME THAT SOME OF THE HOLES WERE AS DEEP AS THEY COULD GET, ( I.E. 4 FEET DEEP) AND THIS IS ALL HE COULD GET WITH HIS AUGERING MACHINE. I INFORMED THE FOREMAN THAT I PAID FOR NINE FEET AND EXPECTED NINE FEET SO THEY NEEDED TO GET BIGGER EQUIPMENT OUT TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT. PHONE CALLS WERE MADE AND ANOTHER SUPERVISOR SHOWED UP ONSITE AND THEY WERE ABLE TO GET ALL THE PIERS TO NINE FEET OR GREATHER THE FOLLOWING DAY. THEY DID A GOOD JOB, HOWEVER IT WAS MY IMPRESSION THAT IF I HAD NOT BEEN ONSITE TO INSPECT THE WORK, I WOULD NOT HAVE RECEIVED NINE FOOT PIERS ON THE 11 ADDITIONAL PIERS I HAD INSTALLED. GARAGE AND HOUSE WAS JACKED AND LEVELED TO MY SATISFACTION. FRONT OF THE HOUSE WAS LEVELED WHEN I WAS NOT PRESENT AND I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A SATSIFACTORY EXPLANATION OF WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE OF THE PREVIOUS PIERS. REGARDING THE WORK THEY DID A GOOD JOB AND I STILL FEEL THE CONCRETE PIERS ARE THE BEST SOLUTION FOR LEVELING A HOUSE. I AM CRITICAL OF THEM FROM THE STANDPOINT THAT I HAD TO STAY ON TOP OF THE CREW TO ENSURE THAT I GOT WHAT I PAID FOR IN THE CONTRACT.

They came on day one and dug the holes and poured the concrete. The men were very courteous. I was worried about the ones digging, as it is all dug by hand and it was roasting hot outside. I was not there when they finished for the day, but when I arrived home, I noticed PVC pipe in our yard from the sprinkling system. I called Amber (she rocks!), and she sent someone over that day to repair the pipe. It is normal for them to have to cut through the PVC, but I wasn't aware of that and they were not able to discuss what they did that day since I wasn't there at the completion. The following week, they sent another crew that did the lifting. This method is the most gentle on your house on the lift, as it only lifts once - - unlike the concrete pilings that use the weight of your home to pound the pilings in, so apparently the house goes up and down several times. I can't even imagine using that approach, as it sounds pretty scary when the lift actually occurs (popping, cracking noises). Noe, the lift supervisor, (really nice and great at explaining the process) came in several times to do measurements. He always took his shoes off so as not to track in dirt in the house. The great news is, they were able to close the expansion joint perfectly, and the ceiling crack closed significantly. So far, we don't have any additional cracks in the house. We did have quite a bit of cracking/large gaps in the mortar, especially at our entry arch where it is mostly cosmetic rather than structural. They have suggested waiting 90 days before we do any fixes. The lack of mortar looks pretty bad, so I don't know if I will be patient enough to wait that long :o). A plumbing assessment was completed the following day, and everything checked out fine. I'm pretty high maintenance in terms of wanting to know what is going on/when things will be done/what to expect, and Amber was awesome at answering all of my questions/calls/concerns (did I mention that she rocks!). Another thing that impressed me about Brown was that most of the work crew that I interacted with had 15-20+ years of experience with Brown. That says alot about the company. As far as price, I can think of a lot more fun ways to spend $5,000 than lifting the foundation, but that being said, they were in the ballpark of the other estimates. Brown was a little more expensive per pier, but I felt like this is a better solution. Even though everyone has a lifetime warranty, it's a pain to have the work done, so their solution felt like I'll be less likely to need the warranty. I've already recommended Brown to a friend of mine. The inspector measured and said that they didn't need to have work done, so she was also impressed with their honesty. I'm anxious to see how it fares in 90 days, but they indicated that if we see anything concerning, they will come back out and remeasure/fix if needed.
Description of Work: We had a long crack in our two story entry ceiling that had progressively gotten wider the last 4 months, probably due the weather. We didn't have any cracking in the exterior brick (all brick home, no siding), but the expansion joint on the brick wall was significantly wider at the top than bottom. Brown's slab levelling measurements were consistent with 4 other contractors that I looked at to do the work. Brown put in 8 piers on our 17 year old home. They lifted the front area about 1/2" and the right corner of the house about 3/4", so not huge problems since we caught it fairly early.

They have been in business for quite a while. I had 4 other estimates and I would use this company as soon as I can round up some financing. They seemed to be more thorough than the other companies who came out to give an estimate. They didn't try to push anything on me. Out of the 4 companies who came out, only 2 companies including Brown Foundation Repair bothered to go under the house to look.

They were able to bring up the back half of the house about 2 inches and raise a sinking mantle/hearth area by about 4 inches. Also, the cost of the work was almost exactly the same as another estimate I got, so I was comfortable that it was fair. Work was completed in 1 day as promised. The person I dealt with was very responsive, professional, and helpful.

We noticed cracks in our walls above door frames and called Brown Foundation Repair to assess the situation. Tony measured the house and indicated we were less than 1/4" off in one spot. In his eyes, there was really nothing they should do. The situation did not call for any action to be taken given the age of the house (built in 1958) and the measurements taken. He mentioned if they did try to level it they could potentially cause more issues and that it just didn't make sense to try and address it, just continue to monitor as we are today. The results from Brown contradicted what we heard from All-Pro who tried to sell us $2500-3000 worth of work to level the house. I have a friend who recently went through bidding out foundation work with several foundation companies and he found All-Pro was the only one who recommended putting in new piers (slab foundation). Now they have $7500 worth of plumbing leaks in their slab. Thank you, Tony, for being honest with us, not trying to find something to sell us. That goes a very long way in my book, and I have been more than happy to tell friends and family about the experience.

I was very pleased with Brown Foundaton work. Mr.Wormington found cracks in places the other companies missed. I had a very good experience with this company. The workers placed the soil around other parts of the foundation that did not have work done. They sent their plumber after the work was completed to make sure there was no leaks. Just a good experience.
