Services we offer
Blue Science is a custom pool builder providing pool cleaning, weekly pool maintenance, repairs, equipment upgrades, renovation services and new pool construction to Texas area homeowners and property managers.
Poor service, relatively high pricing. Consistently failed to maintain pool and then would blame the equipment and ask to pay hundreds of dollars to fix it, only for it to be working entirely fine. When I called to cancel service, they refused to let me.

The absolute worst! I pay them $200 a month to keep my pool clean and safe yet it's always rimmed with algae and I'm spending tons of my own time and money brushing the walls, netting and adding chemicals to correct what they cannot do. Twice now they've left me days before a holiday with a clogged filter, a green unsafe pool and no pressure. They left my filter pump cap off once and then left. By the time I found it my pump had been running dry for over an hour and the water was steaming out the top it was so hot. Could've cost me $1000 if it broke and I guarantee they wouldn't have owned up to it or fixed it. They are quick to respond but they don't fix the problem. Most of their staff is unprofessional and does nothing more than a "check the box" job. I had a tech mark my service card as checked pool sweep function when the sweep was broken and never did anything about it. Also had my card checked as chlorine tabs added and my floats were empty. Don't do business with this company, it's a circus and your just paying for problems and stress!

I wish I had seen the reviews before considering hiring them. Have been duped by them. They sent a pool cleaning person Brian, who cleaned the pool and said there are lots of things wrong/broken in the filter. I asked him to show me, and he disappeared. Later when I called the pool company, they said he had some personal emergency. Anyway, the manager said he will send someone for a free quote on what’s wrong with the pool filleted. And now when I see my credit card, I see a transaction of $328 charged to me. Amazing, I did not authorize any of this. Am going to again talk to the, tomorrow to get my money back. If they don’t, will ask the credit card company to help. Don’t bother even calling these guys...

The guys at Blue Science were great. Josh, Brandon and Lena were awesome. They listened to what we wanted and drew it up. They worked with us to make our vision a reality. They took special care to repaint, replumb and get our fountain going again. The pool looks amazing and so does our fire pit area. The lines of communication were always open and any issues were addressed quickly. There was a paver problem, but they were quick to resolve the issue and exceed our expectations.
Description of Work: Blue Science We needed our 1975 pool resurfaced, retiled and repaved. We had the concrete sidewalks removed and new pavers put down. Added a fire pit, walkway and a sitting wall. Also created a spotlight area for my antique fountain that belonged to my grandmother.

We used Blue Science for ~6 months during the summer. During that time we had many issues that led us to cancel our service with them. Since then they hired on new leadership that learned of the issues and reached out. After talking about the problems we decided to give them another chance. So far they have been great! Very responsive and attentive to the pool. This is what we were looking for in the beginning. I just wish this team was there then to avoid the original problems. Luke, who has been servicing our pool for the last ~1.5 months has done an outstanding job! He explains clearly what's going on with the pool and knows how to service a salt pool. We also had to have a control board replaced by one of their techs, Jeff. He was great too. He explained what was going on and then provided a quick fix. These professionals are what we as customers hope to get. Blue Science is now delivering that.

I was really upset. They just did not do a good job. I fired them. When I first signed on they had a wonderful pool tech. But after he left it has been awful. They wouldn't show up and charge for it. They don't answer the phone after two in the afternoon. If anyone went with them I would tell them to get the managers number if you want to get the things done.

I thought I had finally found a pool service provider that would stand behind their commitment. What I got was yet another pool service company that habitually misses weekly routine cleanings and blames their lack of follow through on high turnover or new ownership transition. These companies all share one thing in common. They show up sporadically yet continue to bill timely and without fail. Blue Science missed four scheduled weekly cleanings since I switched over to them three months ago. The service was good when they actually showed up. Rather than detail all my communication with Blue Science I will simply say this. I gave them a chance to earn my business and they failed miserably even after speaking with numerous staff members and expressing my concerns. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I don't understand why companies won't just do what they say they will do.
Description of Work: I hired Blue Science to perform weekly pool maintenance. This service was supposed to be comprehensive of pool cleaning, maintaining pool circulation, checking the automatic pool sweep, and balancing pool water/pool chemistry.

Description of Work: I've used them for about three years, and I've finally had enough. When I first hired them, they had a wonderful pool tech and my pool was beautifully kept. However, after he left, it has been a rollercoaster of cleaning. I have had multiple complaints about their pool techs, including smoking on my property, sending out teenagers, techs that bill me but do not show up, and just general not cleaning the pool appropriately. Many times they have had to come out a second time. If you want to contact customer service, be prepared to be on hold for at least 30 minutes before talking to someone; more on Friday's. If you use them, be sure to get an e-mail or phone number of a manager to get your issue resolved because calling or leaving a message does not get your question/problem resolved. They have never returned a call when I have left a message.

Pool cleaning tech comes by weekly, and will either call or send me a text message to advise of said cleaning or to report any issues found. The tech who has worked on our hot tub issues, will advise us as to what issues he has found and what needs to be replaced. We've had a heating element and other parts replaced. Blue Science has always taken care of our pool and hot tub needs. Thank you Blue Science Pool guys.

Upon the Blue Sciencesfirst service call my Polaris ended up in a month~working condition and the basket remained full at the pool equipment. The Polaris problem was not reported to me. I was advised by the tech that everything with my pool was "FINE". When I contacted the tech and asked him if he checked the Polaris he said he did not. I asked about the services provided and he advised me all contracted services were completed. When I asked about the baskets being full at the pump, he advised he must have simply forgotten that one. Tech was asked to come back out. It took several phone calls for rescheduling in order for him to come. Managers were called in post his visit, because the pool steps were not swept and the tech was unable to troubleshoot the Polaris. I was scheduled to be out of town for the next ten days and needed the pool in working order prior to leaving. As this is why I hired a pool service company in the first place. A more qualified tech did come out on the weekend and fixed the Polaris prior to my departure. The problem was a simple connection issue. I advised blue science that I did not want the same tech coming out as he was not capable of providing the agreed to services. Blue Science continued to send techs who were lax in their skills and only checked the chemicals and may or may not empty a basket, I cancelled their services approximately three weeks after the initial visit, as the job was consistently done partially and I was constantly on the phone asking them to provide the agreed services. I cancelled the services over the phone. The tech did show up through the month of Decemeber as that month was paid for. In January, I received charges for anoher full month of services. I left two voicemails stating I wish a refund and sent an email notification. I received no call back or action on this problem. I had to again phone live and speak to a person and request a refund that day. After these efforts, the refund was processed. In my limited experience, If you are looking for a trouble-free pool cleaning service then I suggest to look elsewhere.
Description of Work: Blue Science pools were scheduled to provide weekly cleanings on their partial monthly plan. According to the website and employees this included sweeping of the steps checking the chemicals emptying all baskets. And reporting any broken or on the working parts. This was the first service call to the property

They would do more than various services but we clean and vacuum our own pool. They're very good in letting me know if something needs to be looked at. We can use their services to fix it or we can go elsewhere. They're also very prompt and they follow through with phone calls. They've been really good. It's $99 a month and they come every week. We had a cal-chem buildup and they told us what to do and they came and corrected it. We had to drain our pool but they fixed it. I think their price is average and I have no complaints about it.
Description of Work: I use Blue Science Pool. I've used them for the past three years. They come weekly to maintain the chemicals and check my equipment to make sure that everything is running.

I worked in law enforcement for 30 years, and he suggested that I cancelled my pool service and must have been and quot;confusedand quot; about my last call! and quot;Johnathanand quot; claimed I was confused--this service is beyond confused and attacked me for their failure to show up to service the pool. Steer clear of this Blue Science.
Description of Work: The parent Company would not like this group's tactics and unprofessionalism one bit. The service was initially good with one pool tech, Mark. After him, this company beyond bombed out! "Johnathan" called and high pressured me upon cancellation for their failure to service our pool for two weeks and wanting me to accept a free month of pool service in exchange for the poor service we received. We said no thanks, as this particular branch is awful at best. Their pool technician didn't show up for two weeks in a row AND "Johnathan" actually asked me if I "REMEMBERED" my last conversation with them when I cancelled my pool service". I never cancelled my service until this day--the day I spoke to "Johnathan" who was the most unprofessional service provider I have ever spoken to.

[member name removed], Thanks for the feedback. I am really glad that you had a good experience with Mark! Our records showed service was previously cancelled per a conversation with Zach Sammons due to not having a payment method in place. It sounds like you understood you were still on service – I’m very sorry for that confusion! We did not service the pool those 2 weeks before I called because we did not have a payment method in place. Terrible offering... Techs changed almost weekly. We seldom had the same guy more than two weeks in a row, thus the specialty needs we had got skipped or ignored. Often left "off their schedule" even though we signed up for a regular weekly service. This is a Dallas based group who moved a franchise here. Bad mix. While the local 'owners' seem like fine folks, the system or program they run is bad. We're swapping providers. We're just too tired of dogging this service week after week.

There was a customer service issue that caused me to leave Blue Science and find another pool service. The first pool company I hired after Blue Science, wanted to drain my pool (as the water had turned day-glo green by this time) which they charged $200.00. The guy from the new company (not Blue Science) also broke a hose off of the Polaris pump and wanted to charge me $150.00 to fix it. There were a few other little things that threw up red flags, so I let this guy go and hired yet another pool company. The next pool company came out and told me that I would need to have my filter cleaned as it had not been cleaned since the pool went into full algae bloom. When they were cleaning the filter, they noticed that the wrong manifold was installed - Blue Science had just installed the new manifold in March of 2013. They also told me that my timer box was not up to code (not Blue Science's fault), that it was a fire/electrocution hazard and that they would no longer clean my pool until I brought the timer box up to code (or I could pay them $800.00 to do it). Normally, I would have left the customer service issue with Blue Science alone, but when I found out that I paid for that manifold (which was desinged for another filter system other than the kind I have) and that this new company was going to charge me $105.00 to replace it, I IMMEDIATELY got on the phone and called Blue Science. After leaving a couple of messages and not getting a call back, I sent an email to Gabe, the owner of the company. I let him know what happened that had caused me to stop using his services and that now I had to replace an incorrect manifold that they had installed. If anything, I was only hoping (I did not demand or even ask) for them to replace the manifold that was installed in error. Within 10 minutes, I had an email from Gabe profusely apologizing for everything and asked if he could send a tech out to my house to look at the manifold. I accepted his offer and was satisfied with that - if it was the incorrect manifold, they were going to replace it. I waited to hear back in regards to setting up a date/time for the tech to go out and look at the filter/manifold - no word back on an appointment time. The very next day, as I was driving home, I got a call from the pool tech at Blue Science - he told me that he was just getting ready to leave my house (I didn't even know he was going out there that day) and that he had a) confirmed that the incorrect manifold was previously installed and that he replaced it with the proper part b) recharged my filter with DE c) brought my timer box back up to code so that it is no longer a and quot;hazardand quot; as deemed by the previous pool company d) fixed the broken hose on my Polaris pump that the guy from one of the other pool companies broke e) cleaned my pool out again (better than the last company) and rebalanced all of my chemicals. All of these services were done for me at no charge - they even offered to reimburse me the $200.00 the guy from the second pool company charged me to drain my pool (which I declined). I told the tech and later told Gabe that this wasn't about the money - I was completely surprised and again, that at most, I was only hoping they would do the right thing and replace the manifold. That kind of service, what Gabe did for me, you just don't find that level of service much these days. You don't often find a business owner who takes that much interest in taking care of his customers, and I really appreciate that. Needless to say, after a month and a half of this nightmare going between 3 pool companies, the algae, the equipment issues, I am back on the schedule with Blue Science and I do not intend on leaving again for as long as I own my home.
Description of Work: Gabe, the owner of the company, took a not so pleasant situation that caused me to no longer use their services and went way above and beyond to make the situation right. I am back on their schedule and have no plans to leave Blue Science again for as long as I own my home.

In my first review I had given them an F, I cancelled service shortly thereafter. On September 30th they contacted me and after a lengthy discussion with the operations manager he refunded 4 months worth of service. I applaud them for doing the right thing in the end although I wish all my emails and calls had been responded to at the time instead of 4 months later. Sounds as if they have let some past people go and have some new people. As I said in my earlier review for several months I had no problem and the service was great. I don't know what happened but since they did the right thing in the end I am updating my review to a C, which is in the middle, since my earlier experience would have been an A then it went to F. I would give them another chance in the future as anyone can make mistakes and in the end it is how you take care of it that matters.
Description of Work: Hired for weekly pool service at about 154.00 per month, went okay for several months, then they stopped showing up on regular basis, let my pool get algae and have been dragging their feet for past three months. No one even showed up this past week. Called and they said someone would come next day, they never showed up. Meanwhile we have been unable to use the pool most of the summer even though they keep charging my credit card for the service or lack there of. They so not seem to care about customer service.

The tech came out as promised and made the repair to the chlorinator, and I began using their weekly cleaning service. Being a first-time pool owner (read here, total newbie) I trusted that everything was ok. The weekly cleaning tech showed up on the scheduled day, or the day after, recorded chemical levels, cleaned baskets and filters, scrubbed walls and steps. From what I gather, the chlorinator actually wasn't working properly after the repair in February, but because it was cold out and less sunny, the chlorine readings merely fluctuated, not taking a huge nosedive until spring. Then the cleaning tech tried to fix it himself without reporting it. Then he did report it and tried a week or two of suggested fixes. These didn't work, so the Blue Science explained that they would charge me a reduced $39.99 for a service call to diagnose the problem. Their original repair was only under warrantee for 30 days, which I get, but it seems like the chlorinator wasn't working properly from the start, so shouldn't it be covered? They thought not. I had the repair work done by another company and am considering looking for someone else to do the weekly cleaning. The only thing stopping me is that their weekly partial cleaning and chemical balancing service comes at an excellent price for what they do. Plus, despite the pool cleaning tech not reporting the problem with the fluctuating chlorine levels, he's the same guy that comes out every week, is reliable, and professional. When I ask him questions, he's happy to explain things and show me what he's doing to my pool, which is good for a 1st time pool owner. So, all in all right now, I have mixed feelings about Blue Science. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Description of Work: During a pool inspection for possible weekly cleaning, the tech recommended I have the pool chlorinator refitted because water flow wasn't good in it. They sent a tech out who replaced flexible tubing and changed the water flow from bottom-up to top down, which they explained was better and more efficient for the chlorinator. This cost about $180, parts and labor. After this repair, Blue Science began cleaning my pool weekly. Limited, weekly service (minor cleaning and chemicals) runs about $111/month for my pool.

This company is a very professional and customer friendly company, from the office to the service technitions and service managers.. I called them about service to my pool on a weekly basis. They came out very quickly (I believe next day, unfortuneatly my first contact with them was last spring/summer so not for sure) The price for weekly service was very fair, $155 a month for my large pool, it was actually cheaper or close to same cost as me doing it myself. They come every week about same time and definetly same day and have never missed except for 1 holiday and 1 for extremely bad weather and they always make it as soon as the weather allows or next day after holiday. (like Christmas) Whenever I call the office with any concerns the service man calls me back usually within minutes. I had an instance where I needed pool repairs and my pool pump was not able to circulate water (for a few weeks) but Blue Science kept my pool blue anyway. I have dogs that are often out in the backyard and although I try to bring them in when the service man is here, I am sometimes not at home and they have been very gracious to not even mention it, eventhough I have 1 dog that has probably gotten close to pushing someone in the pool. lol The only complaint I have is when I called them for an estimate for a repair, as I would love to do business with only one pool company if I can and the other repair service I have used in the past (you can look at my other review) does not do weekly pool service. The estimate I recieved from Blue Science was over $150 more than the estimate I got from my other pool repair company and even the resulting total cost of the repair I got done. That was a huge difference since the job was approx a $600 job. I did call Blue Science back in order to see if we were comparing apples to apples and and quot;yesand quot; we were. The other company never even knew I called anyone else for an estimate before they gave me theirs so there was no influence to beat any price, this was just the difference. So if doing repairs, I would get a second estimate to verify costs are in the ball park but if you choose Blue Science, I have no doubt the work would be done quickly and most important correctly! I kept the rating for price an and quot;Aand quot; as the price for what I use them for is a good one. I love this company and their employees and would use no other for my weekly pool service!

We just bought our home and in between contract signing and closing someone broke into the backyard and stole the capacitor off of the pool equipment. Therefore, the pool went from running and crystal clear to no longer running without the missing part and turning green. I called Blue Science Friday morning to work on the pool. They said they were booked and it would be next week. With the West Nile Virus related deaths in the area and the emerald swamp in the backyard, I asked if it would be ok if I personally paid the technician a bonus to come on Saturday as they normally do not work weekends. The technician called me directly and agreed. He came from 8-12 on Saturday to acid wash the pool. I paid $435to Blue Science on Friday and I also gave the technician a $150 Visa Gift card on Saturday as I felt like it was the right thing to do for him helping us out. LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT BLUE SCIENCE KEPT MY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION ON FILE. BEWARE! THEY DO NOT REVEAL THIS NOR DO THEY ASK YOUR PERMISSION! We refilled the pool Saturday and Sunday. Monday, Blue Science was to come out and replace the pump as they said they could not simply replace the capacitor. I was not home when they showed up Monday afternoon to install. I got a phone call from the technician making light of the fact that he and quot;burned out the boardand quot;. He said, and quot;that's the first time I have ever had that happenand quot;. He immediately went into a sales pitch about me purchasing a wireless system for over $1400, since he burned out the board and he was not going to be able to get the pool running like it was before. They left my house Monday with the new pump not working and left the damage to my pool equipment. NOBODY BOTHERED CALLING ME! THEY ABANDONED THE POOL! NO MANAGER CALLED, NOTHING! NO ONE TRIED TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND MAKE THIS RIGHT! Not only that, BUT THEY KEPT MY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION ILLEGALLY ON FILE ON FRIDAY AND WENT AHEAD AND CHARGED MY CARD ANOTHER $1415.00!!! In the meantime, we are in the middle of our move....an already stressful time. We make calls AND emails to Blue Science, an entire week goes by and the pool is still not working and nobody at Blue Science even bothers to help. Why should they? They already took the money! Instead Blue Science sends me estimates on what it will cost for them to come back out and fix what they destroyed! THE ESTIMATES TOTAL $2,107.71!!!!! I decide to call 2 LICENSED pool companies to get opinions on what was done to my pool and how to fix it. Both pool companies were shocked at what Blue Science's technician did to my pool equipment. ANOTHER week went by of 2 of us calling AND emailing Blue Science, still with zero results. I could not wait any longer at that point, on Thursday the 20th, I hired one of the LICENSED pool companies to fix my pool. On Thursday, they re-wired everything as they said Blue Science had disconnected wires and disconnected relays. They showed me what was done. When the LICENSED pool company re-wired everything, they got the new pump up and running. They communicated and problem solved effectively (and I will be giving them a RAVE Review on here too!!!). The LICENSED pool company said that Blue Science did burn out the board, but they could order that board and replace it for me. The LICENSED technician said if it was his pool, he would not replace this system with a wireless system when it will work just fine with a new board. Friday the 21st, the LICENSED pool company came and replaced the board and HOORAYYYY the pool is working!!!!!! As a side note, FINALLY 2 WEEKS LATER, on Friday the 21st, the manager at Blue Science emailed me to see if we could have a and quot;discussionand quot; on Monday the 24th. I appreciate finally being contacted by a manager; however, the damage has been done, problem solved, and fixed with ZERO help from Blue Science. There is no discussion needed. THEY NEED TO SIMPLY DO THE RIGHT THING!!!! TREAT CUSTOMERS AS YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED!!! I am sending Blue Science a bill for what I paid the LICENSED pool company to do to fix the damage that Blue Science created. I am also requesting a refund on ALL of the labor charges in the $1415.00 that they took from my credit card without my authorization. Blue Science will be getting a bill on Monday the 24th from me. Stay Tuned.....Blue Science will reimburse me or we may wind up in court. At this point, it is more than about money. I hope no one else ever has to go through this!!! It has been a nightmare!!!!

Customer, I’m sorry you had a bad experience with this. I did some research and here is what Jonathan and Audrey say happened: When our repair technician Jeff Smith began your pump installation he found your control board had pre-existing problems and was inoperable. Jeff called you and his Repair Manager Audrey immediately from the job site to let you both know he found the board to be inoperable when he connected to it. Right after this issue came up Audrey (Repair Manager) was speaking with you on the phone. When Audrey went to conference in Jeff Smith from a job site the phone call was dropped. Audrey called you back immediately and left multiple messages but was unable to speak with you. Jonathan (our General Manager) also called and emailed you several times in order to discuss the situation with you on the phone and try to help with a resolution. Jonathan wanted you to hear what Jeff saw first-hand when he opened up the control board. Neither Audrey nor Jonathan have been able to speak with you. Blue Science is in compliance with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. You are welcome to contact the TDLR as our regulating authority for electrical installations to obtain a second opinion. The pump was wired and bonded according to specifications. The inoperable board appeared to be original to the house. Unfortunately we are unable to get parts for it via our distributors due to its age. We do require a Credit Card on file on an account to schedule repairs. We charge the card the day that customer-approved work is performed. I’m very sorry this inoperable board issue caused other complications with your pool while you got the board fixed and was a bad experience for you – especially while you were moving. Based on what Jeff described I don’t see how the control board being inoperable is related to anything improper as far as what Blue Science did or didn’t do. However I’m happy to talk with you if you would like to discuss this. If I am misinformed about something I would like to know. I want Blue Science to always “do what we say we will do” at every level and to stand behind all our work. Sincerely, Gabe Ullmann

My pool service went out of business early in the year, and I did not immediately try to replace them. Meanwhile, I found a leak in a valve that made it impossible to run my pump. In no time, my pool was VERY GREEN. I found Blue Science Pools on Angie's list and gave them a call. They were very helpful over the phone, and scheduled an appointment for a technician to come and evaluate my problem. He found that I didn't really have a leak, and it was safe to run the pump after all. They recommended algae treatments, which were performed and worked beautifully. Needless to say, I had found my new pool service. I retained them on the spot for their once weekly cleaning service, with chemicals, and now all I have to do with my pool is enjoy it. Thanks Blue Science, and thanks Angie's List.

The technician arrived as planned and looked over the pool and equipment. He tested the water and adjusted the water flow control to put less water coming into the spa and more into the pool. He cleaned the leaves off the bottom and vacuumed the pool. He applied the correct combination of chemicals and emptied the strainer basket. He was very knowledgable, thorough and courteous.I have arranged for them to take care of my pool on a weekly basis. I feel the cost is reasonable for the services performed.
Description of Work: The technician reviewed my pool needs and the equipment. He made recommendations for adjusting the water flow and then he tested the water and cleaned the pool.
