They were to arrive between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. and I asked them to please call when they were on their way. It was 10:45 and I had not heard a word, so I called and spoke to the owner. He called them and called me back saying they were running late but were on their way. An hour and 15 minutes later, they arrived. This was the first indicator that this may not go as I had hoped. I proceded to walk the house and go through the list of items I needed done, about 6 things, prioritizing them according to importance. Of course, only a smattering of that actually got done. MOST of the things that happened, I have already stated above, and I don't think they allow me enough characters to write down every disastrous detail of this experience, nor do I really want to recount how ridiculous this situation really was. Suffice it to say, if you don't work and have all the time in the world on your hands, and you don't need to adhere to any sort of schedule, and you don't care about the quality of work being performed on or in your home, and want to be spoken to and treated like a parent scolding a child by the OWNER of a business, and you have money to blow, go ahead and give these guys a shot!!!
Description of Work: I had purchased a $299 "special" from Angieslist from All Trade Pros for a handyman (the certificate said 1 person for 8 hours or 2 for 4 hours). I took the entire day off work, although I only expected them to tie up half of the day (my first mistake). I needed new fixtures I had purchased installed in the bathroom (faucet, handles, sink stopper, toilet paper roll and commode handle). This task took one man 4 hours. I needed one wall of a small bedroom painted. The other guy did that, and proceded to get gray paint on the white crown moulding (he did not tape it off) and on the adjacent wall (which was a lighter color and was not to be painted). I also wanted the bathroom walls glazed, for which I had already purchased the glaze. The two men (father and son) were speaking in Spanish and I got the feeling the son did not know how to do this, so I asked him if he had ever done this before. He said no, but he had seen it done. Okay...after smearing this brown glaze over a large section of a turquoise wall, it became evident very quickly that he had no idea what he was doing. I told him to stop. I called Tracy Elmore, the owner, and explained what had happened. He said no, he probably didn't know how to do it because painting was not his specialty. Now, let me point out that I had emailed my list of to-do's several days prior to the appointment--no one had any issues with what was on my list. My question is...if Tracy knew this guy wasn't a painter, and I had painting on my list, why would he send this person to do it? This was only the beginning of this fiasco. At this point, the entire bathroom had to be repainted because I no longer had any of the original paint left. Tracy said he would have his "painters" come out on Sunday to re-do it. So back to Home Depot to buy paint for the entire bathroom, in addition to more of the glaze (that's where the additional $100 comes in). In the meantime, the next task was to trim the outside only of a bedroom door that had been cut in a wall. He didn't know how to do this either, so he called two other guys on the phone who came out and nailed it up there (no sanding, no caulking, the corners didn't even meet). I was told the other guys would paint it. By this time, we were beyond the 4 hours so they left, and I was told the painter guys would come Saturday to paint and Sunday to glaze (it had to dry in between). Saturday they painted, but when Sunday rolled around to do the glaze, they didn't show up at all. No phone call...nothing. So I called Tracy yet again and am told they will come out on Monday. Like most folks, I work on Monday's. They said they would come at 4:30 then, so I duck out early and again, they didn't show up until 6:00! But at least these guys KNEW what they were doing as far as glazing. However, they didn't use a drop cloth, and they didn't cover anything up, so I had to srape flecks of turquoise and brown paint off of the sink, counters, the NEW oiled bronze plumbing fixtures, the lighting fixtures, the floor, the cabinets, etc. etc. They did the glaze, they painted the closet door trim and left. Tracy and I had several conversations about all of this, and the last one was so unprofessional, I decided then and there that that would be the last one. He started yelling at me, "What do you want from me??" What did I want??? I told him I wanted him to do what he said he would do when he said he would do it! He told me had too many crews to handle and he was trying to juglgle it, blah blah blah. NOT MY PROBLEM, TRACY! You're running a business, supposedly. You offer a service for money, you should provide it!! Plain and simple. He said he was having his men glaze my bathroom for free! WHAT? How was it free? It tied up 3 days of my life, I had to buy two more gallons of paint and another quart of glaze! So for my $400, I got three out of the six things any experienced handyman should have been able to complete without all the chaos.
