Our heat went out on Christmas Day. When we called Air Force One early on the day after Christmas, Kevin was out within 2 hours. He made a quick assessment, and told us the part had to be ordered. The next day the part came in at noon and they were at our house within 1/2 hour to install. In addition, they adjusted the duct work so that we would get more even heating in the house. Excellent service, knowledgeable and professional. Thanks, Air Force One!
Description of Work: Assessment, ordered new motor for furnace which was installed the following day.

Excellent experience--no complaints (unusual these days!).
Description of Work: Of course the vibration noise coming from our outside heat pump unit ceased the minute the repairman, Kevin, showed up! However, Kevin assessed--even without the noise--that the noise occuring at start-up was due to a faulty outside line thermostat that wasn't even necessary but installed on this particular Trane unit. So he bypassed the thermostat and felt sure that the difficult start would be ameliorated by this step. He also checked the inside unit and the thermostat. From the time I called to the time the serviceman arrived was just about 30 minutes--excellent response! Kevin was personable and patient to explain things. The price (with Angie's List coupon) was very reasonable. Kevin even brought a jar of Cinnamon Pear Jam as a holiday gift for customers! All in all, my experience far exceeded my expectations; Air Force One will get my business from now on!

Called with an SOS at 7 a.m., when we woke up to a very cold house -- a house we'd just purchased and were in the process of moving into. Snow on the ground, sub-freezing temps outside. Fan was running, but no heat coming from the 4-year-old gas furnace. The call was taken by an answering service, and the technician called back within an hour. He arrived before 9:00 a.m. -- put on the booties -- went straight to work, fixed a sensor problem, checked the system out while waiting to be sure the fix was working properly, gave us several tips for more efficient operation, took notes on the equipment we had for our file to be sure they would be equipped to service us without a wait for parts in the future, handed me a detailed explanation of what was done along with a reasonable charge, and then gave us a lovely jar of cinnamon pear jam -- what a calling card :)! Thank you, Dale; thank you, Air Force One (there's got to be a story behind that name...)! As newcomers to the area, we think you are one of the best things about living in Dallas/Garland we've found to date! 05/16/2014 - We've since had several occasions to have AF1 at our house, and our appreciation of them gets deeper and deeper with each contact. To update our review: We've been "with" Air Force One for two years now, going through an HVAC inspection, annual maintenance, misc. service calls, replacement ac compressor and replacement motor. In each case, we have felt treated as well as if we have been lifelong customers (or family). The problem-solving skills, the clear and patient communication during the decision-making processes, the spontaneous thoughtfulness throughout every service incident -- and, of course, the technical/mechanical competence -- has far exceeded our expectations. It's reminiscent of the kind of service you'd have expected decades ago in a smaller community -- personal, neighborly, caring and effective. Also, we've recently run price checks on buying new equipment at discounted places and having it installed by AF1 or other installers. In both cases, we decided to buy our new equipment from AF1. AF1 may not be the least expensive, item for item, but considering the entire project, it delivers the best value by far. And we just like everyone we have met or talked with on the phone... when you have to be in touch as often as we have (having recently purchased an original 1950s ranch-style home) that counts, too. Thank you, everyone at Air Force One :).
Description of Work: Woke up this morning to a very, very cold house. We'd just moved in a day or so earlier. Called at 7 a.m. It's now 9:50 a.m. and the house is on its way to being toasty warm. Fixed a sensor problem and checked out the system while here.

We were told by another company that our downstairs ac was leaking freon and our upstairs system has contanimants in it so both needed to be replaced. We got quotes from five companies. Chester was the gentleman who gave us the estimate. He was very thorough with evaluating our vent system. What I liked about him was he spent considerable amount of time educating me on how the system would work and what he recommended doing. Most importantly, he felt that the recommendation I had gottten about replacing the upstairs unit was incorrect and he gave me a solid reason why. Instead he recommended increasing the vent sytem airflow which worked great. Their price was was in line with other companies out there, but I felt the most comfortable with them. The install team was great. They were on time, worked quickly, and cleaned up after. I received a very thorough education on the new system from the tech and he actually stayed much later to make some adjustments to ensure that the system was perfect. I told him as he was leaving that I was writing him a huge check, but did not feel bad because their work was so good. I will use them again when my upstairs unit does eventually stop working.
Description of Work: Replaced downstairs ac system and reworked existing vent system for upstairs unit.

This is a very professional HVAC company that does excellent work. From the start of my discussions with the company I was struck by how knowledgeable all their agents were. I got bids from Air Force One and one other company. The bids were relatively close. The second company determined that the existing copper tubing from the A/C unit was not the proper size and would necessitate a rather ugly fix. If not fixed, the Rheem warranty could be voided. When I reported this to the AF1 representative, he came back to my house with a pair of calipers. Sure enough, the tubing was not the recommended size. However, it was bigger than the second company rep said it was, but smaller than the currently recommended size. Air Force One is an authorized Rheem dealer, so their representative went back to the shop and researched the issue. He assured me in writing that the size tubing I had was still acceptable and would not void the Rheem warranty if something went wrong. That meant I did not have to authorize the ugly fix of running new copper tubing down the outside wall of my home and cover it with an even bigger drain-spout-like device. I was impressed, and because they are a Rheem dealer, I accepted their bid even though it was a little higher than the other company. The installation team was friendly and professional. They put down drop cloths to protect my carpets. The removal of the old equipment and installation of the new equipment was done without any damage to my carpet or woodwork. The installation went perfectly. One of the A/C units was louder than I thought it should be. Air Force One sent out a specialist who promptly assessed the situation and solved the problem. I am thoroughly satisfied with the excellent workmanship and service of Air Force One Air Conditioning.
Description of Work: I bought a new house and wanted to replace the 20-year old HVAC system. Air Force One was my choice to do the work. They removed two old furnaces and two A/C units. Then, they installed new Rheem units.

They came out for a 6-month check-up. There is a young man named Dale who came out and did the check-up before the winter. Anything you need to have done, he will take care of it. He crawls up in the attic to double-check everything and cover the vents. Anything that needs to be replaced, he takes care of it for you. On the warranty, they have come out multiple times and they haven't upsold us or charged us any extra on these visits. This is as good as you will find anywhere.

I called to schedule our fall furnace check. The woman I spoke with was very nice and professional and I was able to schedule a date within the next few days and was told who to expect. The day of the service appointment I got a call when Rick was on his way. He arrived on time and got right to work. He was very punctual, professional and thorough. He did the system check and took the time to explain what he was doing and what he found. He was excellent in not making a mess and helped form a plan for further upgrades down the road. I have always had good experiences with Air Force One and Rick did not disappoint. The whole service call took about an hour and was time and money well spent.

From the time the serviceman entered and put on his shoe coverings to protect my floors to being presented with my final paperwork, along with a complimentary jar of preserves (which is a hallmark of this company), I was treated with respect and courtesy. The serviceman went right to work and completed all his tasks efficiently without any wasted time. He arrived exactly when he was scheduled and I was given a phone call to let me know that he was on his way,.
Description of Work: I chose a second year of service maintenance on my heating and air conditioning system because I was so impressed with the through and professional treatment I received the first year. Everything was checked on the unit to insure that it was fully operational and within safety guidelines, carbon monoxide levels are checked on the unit and the vents and the filter is replaced if needed (and if not, a new filter is left for when it does need changing)

Two of the units have been defective, and the company has had to come out to the house multiple times. They have ALWAYS been extremely accommodating and came out on the same day to keep us comfortable. They have problem-solved with the manufacturer and followed up without me asking them to until the issues have been resolved. They are highly professional, attentive and a pleasure to do business with!

A very professional and polite technician arrived when he was scheduled to and inspected the inside unit as well as the outside compressor. He determined that the coils were leaking freon and that it would not help to put more freon in. The coil repair/replacement would have been in the $1800 range. We determined that it did not make sense to repair a slightly inefficient 12 year old unit and decided to replace it.

They came out and gave me an estimate the same day that I called. Chester was very thorough and very knowledgeable. They gave us a variety of options ranging from fixing the old unit to replacing the whole system with a top of the line unit. Their prices were very competitive with the other bids that I received. On the day of the install, the team arrived on time. They were also very knowledgeable and professional. They did a great job of keeping the house clean and to my uneducated eyes the installation looks to be very well done. They paid attention to all the details and weren't satisfied themselves with a couple of items, which they documented and then came out a week later and finished to everyone's satisfaction. It's been a hot summer, but we've been very happy and very comfortable with our new system.

We have two A/C units. The one in the rear of the house stopped working completely on Saturday. Luckily with two systems, we could sleep in front part of the house for the remainder of the weekend. No fan, no compressor running, absolutely nothing. I checked circuit breakers and they were all good. We were afraid either the compressor had gone out completely, or the control board in the attic was gone. We were expecting a VERY big bill. I called Air Force One about 9:00 AM Monday. They said they could meet me at home at several different times, on that same day. My work is very demanding and the 4:00 time worked best for me. Rick arrived about 4:15 and listened to everything I told him about our unit. We had replaced the coil in the attic several years earlier and had the unit serviced about two years back with additional freon. Rick began by checking for the most obvious problems. The capacitor was good. He found a spot in the wiring that had worn thru the insulation, probably due to age and weather rubbing the wire on the return freon tube. The wire caused a short which blew a fuse in the attic control board. Rick repaired the worn wire. (reconnected everything and added wire nuts to prevent future rubbing in the same spot. He then replaced the fuse in the attic. He also pointed out several minor problems, like the return air duct had come loose from the attic unit allowing the unit to draw in hot attic air causing it to have to work harder than it should. As soon as he replaced the fuse the unit began working again. He resealed the loose duct. He also checked the compressor freon level and found it about a pound low. He pointed out 3 very tiny leaks in the compressor fins ( these were very small but probably accounted for the loss of freon over the last couple of years. We talked about replacing the compressor. He did not try to pressure me into purchasing another unit. He said if money was tight, they even sell used units that are in good condition. Since money is very tight right now, I had him simply add a pound of freon to bring the compressor up to max. Rick was very friendly, very courteous, thorough, and carefully explained everything he found. He cleaned up after himself, and even wore booties when he came into the house to prevent tracking dirt or leaves on our carpet. Overall, I was very impressed. Total time for the call was slightly over an hour. I would recommend Air Force One to anyone, and will definitely contact them for future needs or problems
Description of Work: The A/C unit that cools the rear of my house stopped working completely. Air Force One sent Rick to work on the problem. He first checked the circuit breakers, then checked the capacitor, since those are usually the primary cause of this sort of problem. He checked inside the compressor for any other visible problems like ants, shorted wires, etc. He then traced the control wire back to the house and found where time had worn thru the insulation on the wire and it shorted out against the freon return tube, which in turn either blew the control board in the attic or (hopefully) only blew a fuse. He repaired the problem with the wiring. then replaced the fuse in the attic. The unit began working immediately. He checked a few other things in the attic and found the return air duct to be loose allowing the unit to draw in HOT attic air, making it work harder. He said he could repair the duct by resealing it at no additional charge. I had him do it. Even though I probalby could have done it myself. Rick then checked the outside compressor thoroughly for signs of leaks (he found 3 very small leaks) he said the unit would probably have to be replaced within a year or two anyway. He did not pressure me to buy another unit. He checked the freon level and found it about 1 pound low. I asked him to go ahead and charge it up to capacity. He did so. Total repair time was just over an hour. Rick was very friendly and personable. He was also very thorough and careful AND explained everything. He was never high pressure.

joined Angie's list. Called Air Force ONe - told them my whole story - they sent a tech out for free, he was very thorough . . . took pictures in the attic w/ his phone and showed me the leaks. He explained everythign to me. He explained that where the leaks were on the coil, they couldn't be repaired and yes I'd need a new one. Their price, $1800. He also explained that when the house was built (8 yrs ago) the builder didn't put a big enough return air duct in and that the unit was having to work too hard plus I found out that the unit the in attic was one size and the unit outside another. Then I found out that really, the unit I have isn't big enough for the house. Got to love DR Horton for that. :( Bottom line, I got a new coil, a new air duct and it works like a charm. Plus - -I got low on freon again - prior to them coming out to fix the AC, they sent a tech out and put in freon for FREE to get me by until the installation. They were GREAT and I highly recommend them. They were thorugh, gave me a proposal with all my options, explained things to me, showed my pictures . . .they were honest. I could go on and on. Thanks Air Force One!
Description of Work: Air Force One was AWESOME! I contacted my regular AC company, the one that installed the unit in my home . . . as the AC just wasn't as cold as it used to be. Tech comes out, checks the freon outside and says I was 4lbs low. He said "yep, you have a leak. Probably in the coil in the attic, but it would be too hard to find it." He didn't even go in to the attic to look. He said I'd probably have to replace the unit as it wouldn't make sense to replace the coil, as it will not work w/ the the new freon. I decided to get a second opinon. Called a 2nd company . . . they come out - go in to the attic and check outside unit. "yep - you have multiple leaks in the attic and multiple leaks on the outside unit." The first company said that if they did replace the Coil it would $2k or higher. The 2nd company said $3500 and that I'd be better off buying a new unit. Didn't buy it . . . didn't like the techs - very pushy and kind of creepy. That's when I

Overall it went very well. Rick was very knowledgeable and had my problem diagnosed in a short amount of time. Repairs and maintenance on the unit were done and everything seems to be in working order again. I am very pleased with Air Force One Air Conditioning and I would definently use them again. In my opinion it's a very honest company and those can be hard to find. I would recommend them to everyone I know. This is the second time I have used this company.
Description of Work: Rick came out and replaced a part that charges the outside condenser of the unit that had gone out. Washed and cleaned the unit, rubberized the drain pan under the upstairs part of the unit and sealed something else. I bought the service contract which includes a fall tune up.

Update from previous post: Today (7/15/12) the system is cooling correctly even though things were strange last night when we got home. Decided not to have the tech out for a 12th visit. Planning to wait and see if things are finally going to hold. I will add, they have worked very hard to make things right and have done a good job of admitting their mistakes along the way. I do appreciate that effort. Going to wait and see if they did finally get it right.

I am a pastor and prefer to put the best construction on everything. So I will do my best to tell it just like it is. We started this process when our old unit had a capacitor break. They were prompt and courteous and charged almost 500 bucks to replace the part. It broke a week later so they came out a second time. Said it happened to be a poorly made new capacitor so they installed another one. A week later it broke too. This time it took the compressor with it. So, time for a whole new system. The price they offered was very competitive and they were good enough to come out the next day. The install seemed to go ok. But they ended up coming out the next day because we have a dual zone system with dampers for 2 stories but they only wired it for a single zone system. Four days later, we discovered the system was leaking. It ruined 1/3 of our up stairs ceiling. Turns out they forgot to flush the drain and had cracked the drain pan when they installed it. They were good and admitted it was their fault and sent someone to fix the ceiling at their expense. So far, inconvenient, but they worked hard to make it right. Well, since then it's been trip after trip. I think last Thursday, July 13 was somewhere close to the eleventh trip. Some of those eleven trips were to fix the drain pan and unclog the drain. However, the majority have been to try and get our zone dampers working correctly. One day, we came home to a house that was 72 upstairs and 85 downstairs. Unfortunately, we had both up and down stairs thermostats set to 78. The next attempt to fix this simply switched the problem. 85 upstairs and 72 down stairs. So, they keep coming back. This last time (July 13th) the filter was totally full and he fixed some place in the system where he thought it was "leaking" and collecting the dust into the filter way to fast. Well, we went out of town the same day and returned tonight (7/14) to find the two upstairs rooms opposite each other were 81 but the upstairs bathroom and loft were 77. Thermostat was set on 77. The downstairs however, was 72. But, you guessed it, the thermostat was set on 77. So, for a day and a half we have been paying for 72 degree air while expecting 77 degree air. They are nice people and keep telling us they are going to make it right. But could you imagine 11 + service calls? We're blessed my wife is a teacher and is off for the summer. And through all of this, not one manager has given us a call to see if they could help in any way (this is why they get an F for professionalism. The techs who come out to the house are really nice guys and professional each time). We choose Air Force 1 because they had a good rating on Angie's List. We are disappointed to say the least.

Contacted company on Friday, 7/6, and was told that someone would contact me. The next day was Saturday and they have limited hours so, since I had not heard from anyone, I called back mid-morning and was told that, "Chester came in and left." I said that I knew nothing about Chester's schedule but would like someone to contact me concerning my air conditioner. Chester called within a couple hours. He said that it would be $99 for him to come and look at my unit, so take some pictures and email to him. I sent the pictures on Saturday. I heard nothing on Monday, 7/9, so Monday evening I sent Chester another email asking him if they were interested in repairing my unit. It is now 5:10 PM on Wednesday, 7/11, and I have not heard a thing. However, do not weep for me...Devard's Heating & Air Conditioning will be here at 8 AM Friday morning. Terrific service from Devard's!

Response from Air Force One Air Conditioning
This member wanted a quote on "leveling" his outside unit because it was leaning. Nothing mechanically wrong and apparently working fine. We didn't get an email on Monday and I guess he didn't want to call. I was so wrapped up seeing to it that we took care folks that had "no cooling" and major mechanical problems to get their systems working that I was remiss. I am sorry and I am glad that he is getting the attention he needs.

I very much appreciate the time they took to come out and explain things to me. I did learn some things I didn't previously know about my ducts and I consider knowledge a good thing. They also put a process in place to avoid another customer having this experience. The reason I gave a B instead of an A was the effort I had to go through to get what I needed, a reasonably priced quote with some options. This is an update to this review. I have left in my original review above and will add this to it. After the owner and Chester came out to provide me a more accurate and reasonable quote I left town for a schedules vacation. When I returned I found two rooms to be exceptionally warm, warmer than ever before. I sent Chester an email telling him what part of his quote I wanted done and asked him to reply to me so we could schedule it. That was two weeks ago. I've not heard a word. I find that interesting, to pass up a customer's request for work they'd received a quote on. The quote seemed high in places, but I felt I could trust their work. After a few days passed without a reply to my request to have work done from the quote I decided I'd better head up to the attic to see what was going on in those two rooms. I had shut the doors on those rooms to help keep the rest of the house cool. My daughter had to sleep with me at night because it was so hot in her room. It really was incredibly hot. My room didn't seem quite as cool either but I figured it was just me not remembering it correctly. I thought that probably while the owner and Chester were up there that they'd inadvertently knocked a duct off of one of the boxes. Some had poor seals and I could imagine that happening. I went up to "reconnect it". Instead of finding a duct disconnected I found where they had left my duct work in the worst possible condition, worse than ever worse than it was before they were up there. Before they came I had some splits in my ducts and on some of the ducts the insulation was coming apart at the seam. The insulation was still around the duct but you could see where it would fall away easily if pushed. I know this because I'd been up there many times myself and tried to fix some loose connections myself. What I found after the owner and Chester were there was shocking. They had pulled back the insulation to take extensive pictures of the tears. I didn't think that was necessary, but I thought some homeowners might want something like that and they had no way of knowing I wasn't one of them. Do I think they made the tears worse by pulling at them to make them clear and easy to photo, yes. Do I think it was their goal to make them worse, no. But they left it like that, with the tears spread wide open as they'd done for the pictures and with the insulation completely pulled away from the ducts so you could see the tears and to show how it was coming apart. I am still stunned, weeks later, that they'd leave my ducts like that. The ducts to those two rooms were spraying cold air into my attic out those tears with nothing to stop it. It previously had to blow throw the tears and through the insulation to get out. You could feel cool air coming out of the vents in the house before their visit. I couldn't feel any cold air after. There was no cold air getting to those rooms. I used some inadequate tape and pushed the tears closed again and taped them and then strapped the insulation back around it as it had been. I found similar things, but not as bad, to my bedroom. Small tears pulled wide open with insulation pulled back off of the duct, letting cold air blow directly into the attic. I patched that too. Sure enough we have cold air back to those rooms and my daughter is back in her bed. Anyone else would probably think this behavior was intentional in an effort to get me to get them to fix it. Sometimes I think that, but mostly I think they were so consumed with proving their original quote was accurate that they completely lost sight of my needs as a customer. My previous review, which I changed at their request, disagreed with the degree of the problems with the ducts. It appears to me their real goal in returning to my house was to prepare evidence in case I refused to change my review. I thought it was to give me a more reasonable and accurate quote. Their technician had inaccurately quoted me some AC codes and made inaccurate statements about the design of my duct work. I believe that was their goal, to get proof. They absolutely made a bad situation worse. And shockingly they've never taken me up on my offer to fix the ducts which only adds to my conclusion that it was not their goal to fix my ducts but instead to prove their technicians quote was accurate, which it was not. My conclusion: If you want someone to come in and redo whatever they see fit regardless of the cost without questions they will probably do a fine job. If instead you want some guidance and repair work done I wouldn't use them period. I think they are much too consumed with proving what quote due to some bad reviews than they are taking care of what you need. There are other decent companies out there. I suggest you try one of them and leave these guys to covering their rears instead of doing good AC work. The leak they fixed in the condensor is still holding strong and I am grateful to Rick for the good work. But I wouldn't trust them with anything else. What they've put me through is just ridiculous and totally unnecessary.
Description of Work: I had a technician come out to give me an estimate on replacing some old and poorly sealed ducts. The first technician gave me a "Perfect solution" estimate and nothing else. The quote was very high and involved things I strongly disagreed with. After speaking to the owner and Chester they personally came out to talk to me about it. They explained that the technician had misunderstood some new codes and had been a bit over zealous on making the repairs "perfect". They understood I am not made of money and wrote me up a very detailed quote letting me pick and choose what I felt were the most important items. Please read the next section to get an update.

We have sent the member pictures of unconnected ducts and ducts that are virtually falling apart. Chris obviously did not do a good job of communicating and meeting the customers needs and we will be dealing with that. She seems to be very nice and has agreed to meet with us so that we can give her a better explanation of what is going on as well discuss other options rather that "whole house" re-ducting.

No cooling call. Refrigerant had leaked out from a rusted out accumulator. The repair tech devised a clever way to fix the problem without having to replace the entire defective piece saving 40-50% on the repair cost.

Quick, same day service, when our A/C was out. They gave me a 4-7 timeframe, and came just after 4 I think. They called first to make sure I was home and to let me know I was on my way. It turned out the motor on my outside unit was overheating and shutting off, so it was replaced. There were a few other things that should be done (holes in drain pan, dirty coil) but since the unit is older we decided not to do those things, the quoted prices seemed high on those items too, so I'll shop around a bit first before I decide to do them (or replace the unit altogether).
Description of Work: replace motor on outside unit. Check both units.

Responded quickly. Work completed professionally, technician called to explain diagnostics before completing work. Easy to work out payment with since I was unable to be home for the repairs. I would hire them again.

I called on Friday and asked for a Monday time. My unit is working, just not very well. They offered me a Saturday time, but Monday was better for me. She reminded me about the coupon on Angie's list that I otherwise might have missed. The office called to tell me he'd be arriving in about 30 min. He came right on time. He was very polite and professional. He asked the right questions and I took him to the unit. He cleaned the outside unit. I wasn't surprised it needed it. He explained I had a freon leak. I wasn't surprised since I'd had freon added last season and here I was having problems again. Of course the leak is in the coil. He explained my choices, try to seal the leak or replace the coil. He was very knowledgeable about the options and the prices. I never felt he was pushing me either way, but would give his professional opinion when I asked. He looked at my duct work and explained the gravity of that situation. Once again I wasn't surprised as I was up there last season and I knew I had some issues. My duct work is original and over 20 years old. He explained the impact of the holes, flattened ducts, and such. He gave me a general price for the duct work so I could consider my options. He explained about the annual program and was easily able to tell me what the difference in price would be if I sighed up for it or if I didn't. It actually saved me money to sign up, more than the cost of the program, $149. I decided to try to repair the leak with sealant and add the missing freon. He did that while he was here and explained I will receive an estimate to replace the coil and to repair/replace the duct work in the attic. I felt he was being very honest with me and gave me all the information I needed to make my decision. He took pictures so that that an estimate could be created for my work. He said I could ask for a copy of the pictures if I wanted. It was a very good experience and I am not all that easy to please. I would use them again in an instant. I can't say they are the cheapest since I didn't compare. But I will be doing that before I spend the money on the duct work.
Description of Work: I had the unit cleaned. He added 3.5 lbs of freon. He inspected my attic unit. He added sealant to the unit in an effort to repair the leak. He took photos to be used to prepare an estimate for the duct work and coil replacement..
