They came out on 6/1/10 to conduct a maintenance on my system. At that time, the gentleman told me I needed to replace my drain pan. I asked him how much it would be & he said $200. I asked if it could wait, and he said since he just cleaned the pipes, it could wait a little while. Two weeks later, my fan was not working in the compressor. They came over & replaced it for approx $425. I left to go out of town for 4th of july & returned home on 7/6 to my ceiling caving in & water all over my kitchen, a result of the drain pipe being plugged. I phoned them to let them know what was going on, and they claimed they are not responsible for the ceiling repair because they told me the drain pan needed to be replaced. I would have replaced it if they had said it needed to be done immediately. I obviously paid for the fan, so it wasn't an issue of not being able to afford it. Additionally, the drain pipe shouldn't have clogged up again in less than a month, had they done the maintenance properly the first time. I phoned Metro Environmental to come over to do maintenance again, and they are in agreement that Air Force One is at fault. They have even written a letter for me if you are interested in seeing it. There are even more details I can provide if you would like further information, including a recorded phone conversation with Chester from Air Force One who told me they put bleach tabs into the drain pipe at the time of the maintenance (which is what probably plugged the drain pipe). I would like the cost of the ceiling repair taken care of, as well as a return of the remaining prepaid 2 year maintenance contract I signed with them. Thank you for your consideration, I appreciate any help you can offer.

Response from Air Force One Air Conditioning
In an effort to resolve this issue with the member's satisfaction, our company had agreed with her to accept the decision of the Better Business Arbitration in response to her complaint. The member has received the refund of the unused balance on her maintenance plan as she requested. Following is an account of services provided to and telephone conversations with the member, along with appropriate attachments that has also been sent to the BBB and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. June 1, 2010 the member purchased a maintenance plain and received first cooling check. Technician noted on invoice (attached that the drain pan was rusted through and needed to be replaced. (The water problem must have been ongoing for the drain pan to be rusted through). June 3, 2010 - office staff emailed proposal; (attached) to the member at the address she had given technician on June 1, 2010. The proposal states that this repair needs to be done before damage occurs. June 14, 2010 - the member telephoned and requested a service call. Technician went to her house and found condenser fan motor needed to be replaced. Technician replaced condenser fan motor. July 7, 2010 - the member telephoned, she was very upset, said water had leaked onto her ceiling while she was out of town and demanded that we pay for the repairs needed on the ceiling while she was out of town and demanded that we pay for the repairs needed on the ceiling or she would file suit. Chester talked to the member and reminded her that we had sent her a proposal that had recommended she replace the emergency drain pan before damage occurred. The member said she was going to sue us because we must be at fault. Chester recommended that she make a complaint to the BBB and we would accept their arbitration option. Response: the damage incurred was the result of the member's main drain line clogging up causing the condensation to go to the emergency drain pan (which was rusted through from previous water sitting in it) and damaged the ceiling. This fact is acknowledged by the member and confirmed by Metro Environmental. Now, the member believes that her drain line could not get clogged up in 34-35 days. In my telephone conversation I explained that drain lines can clog at anytime and this too is confirmed by Metro Environmental. In her insistence to find Air Force One A/C at fault she stated that it was the condensate pan tablet that clogged the drain line. If this had been true, the drain would have clogged up on 6/1/10 and the tablet would have dissolved well before 7/4/10. The member told Metro Environmental that the technician told her that she could wait until fall to replace the damaged emergency drain pan. The technician adamantly denied this. She tells your Department that the technician told her she could wait "a little while", while the technician does not specifically recall the conversation he states that if there had been any discussion about waiting he would have advised her of the dangers of waiting. Further, the work order signed by the member states that the emergency drain pan needs to be replaced and our quote of 6/3/10 (copy attached) tells her that failure to so could result in damage. Finally, the member says that Metro Environmental agrees "...that Air Force One is at fault." and of course this is not the case. For the above reason we must decline the member's demand for damages. I trust that this has explained our handling of the matter and if additional information is needed, please let us know.

FABULOUS. There was a glitch with our unit but it all worked out. We noticed the AC not running efficiently and the pots were rattling. I had another company diagnose the problem because they came out right away. I got two quotes: The first was about 170.00 more than Shawn's. Having just replaced the HVAC unit at our rental house, our budget was tight. Shawn gave me a quote within 2 hours and came out two days later with Veto. BUT--they couldn't replace it because the replacement shaft and squirrel cage parts were defective. In the meantime, they did the yearly maintenance and told us our outside unit was pulling amps and was in a degree of bad shape (replacing it within a year, it was he said). They made arrangements to come back on Monday after testing the next replacement part (the first was crooked). One thing I was not happy with was that they left the fan in the "on" position, which meant it was running from the late morning until 10PM. at that time, we noticed some issues and the hvac was loud and the light bulbs were flickering. . We slept in the second floor living area. The next morning (Saturday), I texted Shawn at 7:08. He responded at 7:38. I phoned and he made arrangements to lend us a portable AC room unit and he worked on getting the part. He responded to my text around 11:30 within minutes and had found another replacement part and sent Veto to the house around 1:00, just like he said. When Veto left, it was running great. I paid for the 149.99 yearly service fee and got a discount off of the 590.00 quote. I would definately use Shawn and his crew. BTW, Shawn showed up on time the first day and worked with Veto. I really appreciated that as I had asked him if he could possibly make it and he said he would try. Veto came by himself on Saturday, which was OK. Veto was nice. I REALLY am happy.
Description of Work: First, they did the yearly service check. They replaced the shaft, motor and squirrel cage that was wobbling so badly that the three story town house shook. This is an unusual 'event' in the life of an HVAC unit, I discovered from a friend who has his HVAC license in another state. We have a Goodman compressor, an Amana indoor unit with a Honeywell zone unit. It is almost five years old. 80% efficiency. (low end builder grade unit). It was about 97 degrees that day with high humidity.

I called the manager, and he said it sounded like there was a problem with the sewer line and that I should call a plumber. The plumber came out and said that there was nothing wrong with the sewer. I was bothered that I had to pay extra for something that they told me I needed to do and was not the reason. They are coming back a third time to look at it again this week. Chester is very courteous on the phones. As of how things stand right now, I would not recommend them to other Angie's List members.
Description of Work: I have a service contract with them, and have had good experiences in the past. However, they were just here and told me that I needed to replace a rusted overflow pan, but it was just replaced last year.

Air conditioner would not work during the night and compressor worked but did not blow air at all. I called them at 8:00 am on Sat. morning, they were here at 8:45 am. I described on the phone what I believed was wrong and and made sure they would have the parts to fix it on the truck if possible. They were prompt and quick to detect and fix the problem. No time and a half for Saturday. The circuit board was out and a part to better control the circuit board. Will for sure use again. Very nice people.

This was at our rental property. Our tenant called to report that the upstairs AC quit working. This is the first time the AC is used since we owned the house. We had no idea if everything works. The AC is 10 years old. So we were expecting a huge cost repair or even replacing the unit. Only a day before that, my husband and I went to AF1 store in Dallas to pick up some odds-and-ends kind of things for fixing little things in our duct. We were really impressed with their sales people at the store. They were very knowledgeable and very patient trying to explain to my husband how to fix those things. So the first thing I did receiving the phone from our renter, I called AF1. They have a service department! They came out the next day. (Because they were swamped by phone calls after the long weekend.) Within minutes, Kevin (the service man) told me that a battery (of some sort) needed to be replaced. The part is $95. So our cost would have been only that plus the Service (Diagnosis) Fee, about $150 total. I was very impressed with the skill of the service man, his honesty and his professional attitude. I went ahead signed up with their service plan for our rental house. It saved us the fee on the service call, and we also get 15% discount on the part. I have also switched our own house AC service plan to AF1, because I feel that I can trust these people not over charging me on service that I do not need.

The service call went well. Fixed a simple problem with my furnace and then during the A/C check up, they found that the smaller compressor needed replacement. It's two years old so thought it was under warranty and determined that it was, so they took care of that for me. Each time I've used these guys, I've been pleased with their service, professionalism and punctuality. Plus the call I get from the office saying the service person is on the way to my home. That way I don't have to take half a day off work to meet the service person.

They have done a very good job. They did some work, we had some problems, they did some more work, we had some more problems. They continued on five different times and did everything good. They kept their word and ended up fixing everything with no additional charge. When they said they'd be there at a certain time, they would be. They were very professional and courteous and I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: For the 18 years we've owned this house, I had a great Heating and A/C guy who took care of everything for us. However, he has retired. I had a problem with one of my two heat pumps and had another company come out to work on it, but they screwed everything up. I found out about Angie's List and joined, and found Air Force One Air Conditioning in the publication. I called them and after numerous trips had them they fixed my heat pump.

Overall my experience with this company was a very good one. During a very cold snap my heater completely quit functioning. Had to leave a voice mail but my call was returned very promptly. A service person came out the afternoon of the same day I called and took care of the problem. While he was there I asked him to make a note of any information that would be needed for someone to give me a quote on replacing all my duct work and drain pan, work I had known was badly needed for a couple of years. I received a quote via email within two days and had the additional work done. The day after everything was finished my unit again quit heating. I called the company and they sent someone out immediately. An additional part had gone out and needed to be replaced. The company, to their credit, charged me only for the part and not the service call since they had been out the day before. Everyone I dealt with was very professional and I was delighted with the service. I plan to use them in the future for all my heating/cooling service needs.

I called Air Force 1 after the contractor sent by my home warranty service failed to repair the heater, told the warranty company it needed cleaning, and wouldn't come back to repair it unless I signed a service contract or paid them $375 to clean the system. I had AF1 install an AC uint last summer, and was impressed with their service and their work. They came and looked at the system, told me they would clean it for $200, but it didn't really need cleaning. They determined the problem was a bad circuit board, which would cost $515 to replace. I decided not to spend the money since the unit is 12 years old, and had them quote me on a new one. Since I have a relative small house (1425 sq ft), they quoted an appropriate unit for my house, and installed it the next day. I'll also be looking for a new home warranty program when this one expires....

Chester came out a few days before to give us an estimate to replace one of two air conditioning systems. When we accepted their bid, they arrived on time and completed the installation in one day. During the installation of the evaporator coils in the attic, water spilled down through the kitchen acoustic ceiling due to overflowing of the drip pan of the old coil system. Approximately two weeks after the installation was complete, Air Force One sent their paint contractor out to repair the ceiling and repaint it at no cost to us. All work, including the ceiling repair, was completed to our complete satisfaction.

I contacted Air Force One and was connected with Chester - their Comfort Consultant. After explaining what I wanted to have done, Chester confirmed he would have to come in person to see what the situation was before making a determination of service and estimate. Chester came just a couple of hours later the same day and arrived on time as scheduled and did a very thorough job of measuring the room, looking at current duct work in the attic and discussing my options. After approximately 1 1/2 hours of estimating and trying to look at different options, Chester confirmed that our system would not be able to effectively heat/cool the room and that my best bet would be to get a Mini-Split unit or a Heat/Cool Window Unit. Effectively saying that while they would love to do the work for me, what they would be able to do with my system wouldn't get the job done and therefore wouldn't work for me and it would be a waste of money for me to hire them. This was very refreshing and I really appreciated the honesty instead of trying to sell me ductwork that would never work correctly or might seem at first to work but then later not. And all of this information and advice was completely free of charge which is why I will bring my return AC service needs to Air Force One and Chester as well as refer them to my friends.
