Terrible. Should be called The Misery of Granite starring Joy Coleman. She doesn’t return calls text, emails in a timely manner. Wants to know where you live to decide if it’s worth her time. She lives in the Preston/Royal area and that alone should tell you volumes. Subcontractors in the DFW AREA are a dime a dozen. She is a one man band doing a poor imitation of a subcontractor. DONT WASTE TIME WITH A JOY OF GRANITE.

Their service was superb. They took out all my old formica countertops and replaced them with a quartz countertop with 4" quartz backsplash. The crew were on time and professional. I had new countertops from start to finish all in one day. I also got a free stainless steel undermount sink with the installation. I am extremely satisfied with A Joy of Granite and will recommend them to anyone! Great job!!! Rob Duenner

Overview of services performed: I contacted Joy on a Tuesday around lunch. She returned my call around 5:00pm the same day and asked if I could be at the house around 9:30am the following morning. I agreed to the proposed schedule. Joy advised me that the contractor she used was a perfectionist and that if he had any doubts about his ability to do an excellent job, that he would turn the work down. The contractor was 5 minutes early to the appointment. He spent about 15 minutes measuring and inspecting the cabinets. He quoted the work effort at $250.00. I agreed, and he proceeded to begin work. The contractor brought in an assistant who helped with the job. The contractor was insanely careful and clean. He covered the floor around the work. He covered the counter-tops around the work. His assistant vacuumed as he cut the stone to minimize the dust from the process. He measured and marked the stone and re-measured before he cut. The same process was followed with the modifications to the cabinet cuts. IT SHOULD BE NOTED: The cuts to the stone were fairly minor. The existing cook-top hole in the granite was smaller than needed for the new cooktop. The cuts to the cabinet face were very minor. When it was all said and done, the new appliance looks great. My wife is beyond excited. I'm having our plumber come in this afternoon to change out the gas line and remove the line reducer used for the previous appliance (the new appliance has a much higher gas-flow capacity). I would STRONGLY recommend using Joy of Granite anytime you need Kitchen Remodeling
Description of Work: I recently purchased a new-construction home. The builder-provided gas cooktop was a 5-burner KitchenAid (drop-in). I had purchased a 6-burner KitchenAid apron-front gas cooktop which was originally intended for a previously owned house that I decided to sell as is (was!). In short ... I wanted to replace my 5-burner with a 6-burner KitchenAid. Requested Work: a) Disconnect gas line from old appliance. b) Cut granite countertop to allow for installation of the new appliance. c) Remove "drawer" facades from below existing drop-in cooktop. d) Modify cabinet to allow for new appliance (Minor cuts to remove drawer openings) e) Slide in cooktop to verify everything fit as expected. Specifically excluded Work: a) Gas hookup to new unit (Required new longer flexible gas line and removal of line reducer).

I called Joy of Granite on the afternoon of the 21st reaching no one or nothing but answering machines. Joy of Granite's reoording said they were closed for the holidays. I did reach one company and was told a repairman would call me with a time. No one ever did. I ended up calling Joy back on the 26th. Result: She was still on vacation but called me back almost immediately and could NOT have been nicer, and had an excellent professional, Martin, at our home at exactly when I was told. All plumbing had to be detached, and holes drilled for big metal screws to actually support the granite - not just glue. And I did not have to call the plumber because he re-attached the disposal and other plumbing. The bill was the lower of two possible quotes she gave me . Joy (the owner) is probably the most delightful, responsive person I could have come across. I am sorry I did not get her to install my countertops originally - it would have ben done right. An A+
Description of Work: Our stainless steel double sink had become separated from the granite counter top and fallen down - supported only by plumbing fixtures and the "stuff" stored in the cabinet underneath. This happened gradually over several days and I knew I was in trouble when it fell on Friday 12/21. How did it happen? i had to stand partially in the sink to hang a picture over the kitchen window. It did not occur to me it was only glued - not supported in any other way.

We have had difficulty getting contractors to show up and or complete work on this bathroom project. Joy showed up within 15 minutes of being called. Very punctual. I chose Joy Coleman after seeing our neighbor's remodeled bathroom. Unfortunately, and too late, I signed the contract before I discovered she only provided my neighbor's granite vs. decorating her entire bathroom. But more important, my gut instinct against hiring her also kicked in too late. I had doubts about her personality, but I was ready to have the work done, and didn't completely go through available contractors on Angie's List. Included in this remodel was to perform the removal of shower, bath tub, floor, one built-in cabinet, hanging/re-hanging mirrors and paint throughout our master bedroom, master bath and closet, pool bath and laundry room. Installation included one new built-in cabinet, trim added to another cabinet, heated floor, shower and bath tub. We did not choose to replace our orginal sink or bath tub faucets. I did review A Joy of Granite on Angie's list and was initially satisfied, but both my husband and I quickly discovered we could have contracted out each service ourself, with a lot less stress. The owner of this company, Ms. Coleman, came into our home five times over the course of nine weeks (with two "no work times" requested by us); one time was to view the project and measure surfaces; the next time was to bring the contract for signature, collect deposit, and re-measure surfaces; the next was to personally deliver a needed part; the next visit was requested by her sub-contractors for their own direction, and the last visit was an un-invited, accompanied visit with the marble provider to prove her tile installers completely scratched the marble, immediately after installation (they walked all over it with concrete/grout on their shoes). There were additional problems, but in general, we were displeased with her unwillingness to manage this project. Ms. Coleman was in a constant state of nervousness and defensiveness. At one point, the plumber showed me she had ordered the wrong size arm flange for our shower (we would have had to stand against the shower wall). When I called her, her response was "that's the only size they come". After assistance from the plumber, the correct arm flange was installed. Towards the end of this project, we learned that the main part of Joy Coleman's business is installing granite. There were so many ordering mistakes and discrepancies between her and her subcontractors, that we cancelled the painting portion of the job. We hired another company that finished in four days, for $2,700.00. Ms. Coleman quoted $5,200.00 and we did not want to take any more chances. The bottom line is that our expectations and quality could possibly be higher than most, but a potential client should be aware of a very different type of personality in Ms. Coleman. She was easily stressed; this was evident each time a negative issue was to be addressed. It also quickly became clear that we were never right - she always had the habit of disagreeing and it was important to her to "have the last word". I would not suggest this company for a major remodel, but if funds are not an issue, the granite installer she used was completely acceptable.
Description of Work: This company was hired to complete master bath remodel, to include scheduling and ordering, installing materials (granite, marble, tile and plumbing parts) and painting services.

Response from A Joy of Granite & Natural Stone, llc
In response to the member's report, I totally disagree with her statements. The project was 9 weeks long, due to the ordering of parts that belong to Newport Brass. I ordered all valves, parts, rain showerhead, extended arm (which was included with rain shower head, etc.), and waited on receiving all of the parts. I found out that Newport Brass discontinued the diverter that was needed and the other parts were backordered. I told the member that we need to wait for the parts to come in before any tear out work should be done and but she insisted that we start the project because she was excited to have her new bathroom. By the time the valves, and trim sets, etc. came in, the member and her husband were upset, unreasonable and expected my company to do more and work more quickly. We had finished everything that could be finished. The member left messages saying that it was causing marital problems and that we had to do something. She was very unreasonable and blamed my company for all the problems (the only problem was waiting for the new fixtures and valves which were out of our control). From that point on, the tension of the members went from bad to worse throughout the rest of the project. (I found out that the original faucets were Kohler instead of Newport Brass that she insisted that they were. The Newport Brass new parts and fixtures drew out the project for another 3-4 weeks waiting on backordered items. Each time I explained the process of the renovation and that everything was running smoothly and normal, the member had something to say negatively, as well as run down something or someone from my company. (She would say negative remarks to one worker about the other worker or about me.) I started to think about what the member had said to me when we initially talked about her project, and remembered she ran down all of the companies that had performed some kind of work in her home. That is when I got concerned about doing this project; however, with my years of experience, I knew that my company would do an excellent job. The comments about me being there only five times are not true. She knew that I just got out of the hospital and had a major surgery. I started her job less than two weeks after this surgery. I received text messages saying that she was anxious to start the project. Knowing this, I went to the member's house as much as needed on a regular basis. My company has excellent, professional and skilled workers that know their job duties. They do not need to be micromanaged as the member tried to do and then her second-guessing my workers asking them “if they knew what they were doing…” put more tension than needed in the project. I believe the expectations of the members were unrealistic in this project. The member would ask questions of me but did not want to hear the answers to the questions. The members wanted the project to be run their way and to provide a written schedule every day. I advised them that a written schedule for the week couldn’t be done due to scheduling of workers, other customers’ projects, as well as any emergency situation that takes priority over all or overlapping of jobs that didn’t get finished that day. However, I advised them that I would text them and tell them what the schedule was attentively in the renovation process. If something would change and I informed the members in advance, however, they would still be upset because of the change due to circumstances beyond control. The members did not want to hear that and expected me to drop everything else due to their stress of the job being drug out because of the backordered fixtures. When the member said my tile guys scratched the floor marble, I brought an outside company in to polish the marble professionally and arrived with them at the members house, which a contractor should do. Once again, that upset her. During this project, the members would email and text me all hours of the day and night, angry, making derogatory remarks or questioning anything that was done by my company and its professionalism. After their remarks, they would tell me to “not respond”. I stopped responding to the accusations just because I realized that the members were going to find fault with everything that my company did, would do or had done, just because of the delay of the work due to the backordered fixtures. When my Company finished this renovation, I knew we did a great job and gave them an absolutely beautiful bathroom in spite of the treatment my Company and workers received. I can say that through this tough renovation project, we were always professional. My workers did their jobs correctly and beautifully. They were very courteous to the members in spite of the their unrealistic expectations and negativity. In renovations, one does not know what to expect during the process. However, you deal with the problems and the situations as you go and fix what needs to be fixed and keep moving forward until the process is finished. My company did this with the members master bathroom and did a beautiful job. I am proud of the job we did and also the fine work that my guys accomplished. We did not use Joy this time but I would consider using Joy again if I had a larger budget and did not want to do the legwork myself to coordinate multiple vendors.
Description of Work: Joy was prompt in responding to my request, and came out to measure and walk through their services. She is a one-stop shop for remodeling, and was willing to include painting, plumbing and appliances in her quote. Joy obviously knows the industry and I think she would have been a good project manager for our kitchen remodelling. We decided to use another granite countertop vendor eventually due to pricing.

It was a pleasure to work with Joy Coleman. She was prompt to respond to my emails and phone calls and she worked hard to get my business. When I told her that I had an estimate from another company which included a free countertop and sink for a bathroom, she found a way to provide me with a comparable estimate to include the same. She offered to meet me to look at the slabs of granite, but it was something I chose to do on my own. After selecting the granite I wanted, she was able to keep the price within budget by locating smaller slabs of granite so there would be less cost and waste. The crew she sent out were great. They worked hard, were professional, and cleaned up after themselves. Joy and the crew made the experience pretty much stress-free. We liked working with Joy so much that we utilized her services again when it came time for the selection and installation of our kitchen backsplash. I would highly recommend A Joy of Granite.

I called and left a message, never heard back. Then contacted her through Angies list, she called back immediately; set up a time for the estimate. She came and measured on a Monday; I got the estimate by email on Friday. Since I didn't hear back from Joy for several days, I assumed she wasn't going to call. I had also called Heritage Stonecraft and they gave me an estimate over the phone based on square footage and number of sinks. I went to Heritage Stonecraft and picked out some granite, they came to measure and will install on Wednesday, Sept. 14. They have been very helpful, friendly, professional.

Hello, In response to this Angie's customer, I would like to apologize for no callback due to having been out of the state of Texas for a vacation to the mountains in Colorado starting the week before the Fourth of July. I had no reception and no service for most of the time when I was out of town. There were no phone calls recorded. I would have called and responded to this customer if I would have known. Again, I apologize for the non receptiveness due to service issues out of my control. Thank you.

After placing calls to a few different companies, we elected to go with A Joy of Granite for our new kitchen countertops. The owner, Joy Coleman, was responsive, personable and professional to work with. Joy set up an appointment to meet with us immediately and spent quality time assessing the potential for our kitchen countertop upgrade. She was extremely knowledgeable about not only the current trends in design, colors and presentation but also in the mechanics of the installation. Joy made a number of recommendations for how we could improve on the amount of counterspace we could have while at the same time making it look more elegant. The installation team arrived on time and were the utmost professionals in their management of the job. Joy also made great recommendations on what kind of backsplash would be most complimentary to our new countertops and colors in the kitchen. Our neighbors have remarked that we now have the nicest kitchen on our block - and to think this came at a price that was extremely competitive and worth every penny in terms of our home resale value going up. We would highly recommend A Joy of Granite to others for their granite and stone needs. We were also very pleased at how streamlined the quoting and invoicing process went and very glad that Joy accepts all the major credit cards.

Joy was very helpful in our initial meeting and brought plenty of samples and helped to narrow down to the one I wanted. I had a deadline to get the countertops in by the following Sunday, so once we agreed on the granite and the estimate was approved, she started right away. Work was done when promised and I really liked the results. Countertops were finished ahead of my deadline. Really a positive experience all around. * last thing and it is not really a negative, but wish she did accept CCs (need my points :) ) but she did say that she is working on getting that as a payment option.
Description of Work: Replaced Kitchen countertops (tile) with granite. Also set up the plumbing work needed to re-use the same sink.
I have a granite countertop. I needed a specialist to come out here and basically reseal the sink that was leaking. It costed me $175. When they gave me the estimate, they thought they would have to completely detach the sink from the granite. Then they would have to get underneath the sink, cut all the pipes, unglue the sink and then reattach it. Then they were going to come out the next day to fix all the plumbing. However, when they got out here, they realized that the only thing they had to do was basically re cork it above the granite. So they took off the cork that was around the sink and re corked it. They were here for about 20 minutes. They took off the plumbing fee but left the other fee on it. I thought that $175 was for completely detaching the sink and redoing all that work. They said that it was the service fee for coming out here and doing what they did. I thought that was a little unusual. I will probably use them again but I will make it clear that I need them to come out and give me an estimate based on looking at the job and determining exactly what they need to do.
