I don't even know where to start. We had an appointment set, not a "window", and they were an hour-and-a-half late. Once they'd arrived and I'd noticed they were focusing only on the foundation, I explained that the inspection was meant to cover the structural integrity of the entire house, not the foundation alone. I was told I had only requested an inspection of the foundation, which was patently untrue as I'd explained from the start that this was for a 100-year-old house that had known structural issues. I'd informed them ahead of time that the house was pier-and-beam as it was advised somewhere online to do so because the main engineer would need to arrange for a colleague to perform that part of the inspection due to a medical condition. I did not, however, tell them I needed the inspection for the foundation alone. I was advised that I needed to pay for the additional service to cover the roof and attic, which I happily agreed to do. I was then advised that doing the inspection on the entire house would put them on a tight schedule as they had another appointment scheduled following mine. I politely pointed out that the appointment was for a full structural inspection of the house in the first place and that they were an hour-and-half late at that. The structural report was professional enough. However, I discovered that it didn't cover anything more than the foundation. I requested the rest of the report I'd paid for, and, rather than at the very least provide me with a professional addendum to the original, I instead received a rather hastily-worded email with a cursory recommendation for additional attic supports. Nothing at all on the roof was mentioned. The original report had errors in it regarding the orientation of the house that caused confusion. The regular home inspector was more meticulous than all this, and I paid him half the price! I ended up buying the house, and I'm probably going to hire another structural engineer before I have any structural work done. I just don't have confidence that what I have is in any way complete.
