I have used Htowne for multiple projects, the latest and largest was a two-bedroom second floor addition over the master suite (itself an earlier addition by a previous owner) in our 1930's vintage home in Eastwood. They were able to take the project from a loose "hand-waving and pointing" idea in my head all the way through design, structural engineering and architecture to completion and incorporate the ideas and desires we had for the space. They went above and beyond to make sure the rest house remained livable and unmolested since we stayed in our home (with kids!) through the entire process (though we did have to give up our master suite for a couple months). Very professional, highly recommended, and look forward to working with them again.

These guys are real pros. We even had a couple special challenges with plumbing and electrical -- all good. JR is great to work with. Actually listens and gives good advice. Clearly he's been doing this for many years and he has a trusted team with real skills. Pricing was right on target for what we expected.

Perfectly. Every aspect of the project was organized and completed on schedule, even with additional work added project progressed. The crew was courteous and left every area clean at the end of each day.

I have known the owner because I have hired them before. I trusted the owner. It did take a while to rebuild my whole home but it got done. I have happily refereed them many times, I would refer them to anyone. If they do something wrong they fix it for you at no extra cost. They would let me know if they were running late.

I highly recommend H Towne. They arrived on time, cleaned up the area and work was completed as agreed to in contract. The crew was professional and did an excellent job. I will definitely use them again on our upcoming home projects. Thank you!!!

Excellent workers from JR Smith, foreman Fernando, demo crew, hard workers, came on time stayed until specific job was completed. William & Mitchell who did the majority of work were wonderful! I couldn’t ask for more from this whole team as my husband was hospitalized while job was ongoing. From JR to Fernando and crew were supportive & empathetic while I was dealing with this scare. I told Fernando that God sends us the right helpers when needed. I highly recommend H-Towne & Around for any of your home improvement plans!

What can I say? I got more than what I paid for. You know what it’s like to watch your investment being built from the ground up and wanting to make changes as it progresses. Well due to J.R.’s crew working to meet all my expectations , I received a slightly larger patio than I contracted for which is a benefit !! Who doesn’t love getting more for their buck? Let’s talk about J.R..... he responds in a very timely fashion and makes himself openly available to answer your questions and concerns. The crew leader and crew were very professional and efficient. With the exception of waiting for material delivery and waiting on my personal electrician to complete his part, it basically took them 4 days to complete my patio. The quality of the patio is that of an above ground house structure ( built to last). All of the HOA requirements were met. I am very pleased with my purchase. I would highly recommend H-Towne & Around Remodelers Inc. to anyone looking to purchase satisfaction.

Overall, I have to say that JR (H-Towne and Around Remodelers) are excellent. JR worked closely with us the entire way through the job. He had some good suggestions for improvements/ideas and was also open to ideas/changes that we came up with and requested. They came out promptly to take care of any issues we discovered, even months after the job was completed. We are very happy with our new enclosed patio room. The huge picture windows gives us a fantastic back-yard view.

The project went very smoothly. JR Smith brought in consultation of designer Wally Westbrook at our request since kitchen underwent such massive change requiring removal of existing support post and reconfiguration of cooktop ventilation to accommodate new gas stove as well as design of massive new central island. Other contractors were hesitant to take on the problem of joist repair and tried to talk us out of it but JR took on the challenge and brought in field engineer as second opinion in calculating size of beam required to fix our sagging second floor. The day the new beam went in our 2nd floor instantly leveled out and upstairs closet doors that stuck open could be closed again. Our new kitchen is beautiful and we love gathering for family dinners around the new eat in island. JR’s crew led by Fernando Rivas did an outstanding job fabricating new cabinets and installing all pertinent surfaces including the kitchen ceiling which had to be gutted in order to diagnose and repair joist problem. H Towne and Around supplied hardworking and cheerful professionals who completed the combined structural repair, full kitchen remodel and floor installation in eight weeks. The project spanned the entire holiday season without significant delays. So far the new beam is holding and it’s so nice to walk across the level second floor and be able to close closets again.

We did a total master bath Remodel and it turned out fantastic. Beginning with Larry our salesperson to Fernando and his crew the job went smoothly & was done in about 3 weeks. Couldn’t be happier. I would highly recommend them.

The job was done in basically 2 days. That included prep and cleanup. There were a few spots that I wasn’t satisfied with, and JR came back and made sure the job was perfect before He would accept payment. That is how this company rolls. I would highly recommend this H Towne and Around. JR Smith has done prior remodeling for us and I have never been disappointed. In the past we had painting, remodeling in our living room (removing a wet bar) and lights and fans installed. I would not call anyone else. These guys always do a superb job.

We had H town replace 12 windows on the front of our house. I really like the look and quality of the Don Young aluminum windows that JR found to match the other windows we have in the house. The job also involved changing the configuration of the windows and reframing in one of the rooms. Everything turned out just as I had envisioned it. JR’s window guy Manuel was great to work with and the subcontractors as well. Very happy with the end result

I called JR in late August 2017 while standing in 2 feet of water after Hurricane Harvey and told him I needed help. His crew showed up immediately and had me back in my house by Christmas. I can't say enough about H-Towne. The honesty, professionalism, punctuality and responsiveness were hands down the best I've ever dealt with or seen. The quality of the work far exceeded my expectations. Their attention to detail and pride in their work left me with an amazing home. There is no doubt in my mind that I will use H-Towne for any remodel/renovation project in the future.

From demolition through our current state, we have been pleased with the work. His subcontractors seem to be honest, knowledgeable people, who have been in the construction business many years.

JR Smith and the team at H-Towne and Around were great to work with. JR and team were very responsive and respectful throughout the process. They solicited our input through each major step of the project. JR's oversight of the project ensured that H-Towne's product was of top quality. On numerous occasions, he ensured that there were added touches that added quality to the project, most non-cosmetic, such as adding hurricane clips to the roof framing, power beams for superior support, and extra framing beams to ensure the integrity of the structure. Our project took a month or two longer than expected due to Hurricane Harvey which created its own logistical challenges. However, H-Towne and team ensured that the project was completed and delivered as promised. You are in good hands with H-Towne as they take pride in their work, and they deliver a top notch work product. You may pay a bit more than other contractors, but you definitely get what you pay for when you are working with H-Towne and Around. There doesn't seem to be any project that is too big for them to tackle.

Overall, we are happy with the results. We have a two story home that was flooded during Harvey and the lower floor was demo’d to about two feet prior to H-Towne arrival. They completed drywall, trim, doors, floors and paint in addition to a remodel of the master bath. Project was started on Sept 27 and completed on Dec 6. They handled the resource challenges with professionalism and stand behind the quality of their work.

Work was performed with very high quality and on time. Jo site was kept clean and orderly.

JR has always showed-up on time, was professional, and the work completed like he said it would.

I first read the reviews of Houston-based remodeling companies on Angie's List. Because his company is so highly rated and has such good reviews, I contacted J.R. Smith of H-Towne and Around Remodelers, Inc. He came to my house the same day I contacted him and told me very clearly what was possible in the way of an addition to the old house. He suggested that we build a two-storey addition to the back of the house because of the limited space. He was completely open about the cost and was committed to giving us good value for the money. He answered all of our questions and it was obvious that he was knowledgeable and experienced. I initially thought that I would have to hire an architect to design the addition, but Mr. Smith designed the addition himself, saving us a lot of money. His plans were in keeping with the original style of the 1937 house and gave us an additional 400 square feet of space in a two-storey addition. Mr. Smith took care of all the engineered drawings and building permits in a timely manner. When the carpenters began work on the addition, Mr. Smith checked on their progress frequently and scheduled the inspections as soon as possible. All of the workers were highly skilled and diligent. They were very respectful and knowledgeable, and they worked efficiently to complete the project. The carpenters, roofers, electricians, drywallers, and painters did work of excellent quality and were very open about discussing their work with me. I felt very comfortable having them work on my house. The addition has turned out to be vey beautiful and I am grateful to J.R. Smith and his crews for giving us such good value for the money we spent.

I can't say they're good or bad at their work because they have yet to return my call. I can respect a business that calls to let you know that they are booked up but when they won't contact you is just not a good omen for me. **Update: 7/11/2017** He contacted me and gave a good explanation as to why he couldn't get back to me initially. I have upgraded the letter grades on this review, since they did follow up.
