Description of Work: I had work done by George Godin about a year ago and was quoted a price, job by job and agreed to the prices given. I needed two adjoining closets closed in and reopened to make one closet in my hall bathroom. George quoted $500 to do this. At the same time, he quoted $350.00 to install a pocket door from the living room to the hall. He quoted a price to replace the portion of a rotted bedroom floor which is on a slab, but the hardwood is nailed to 2 x 4 ""skreads"" which are glued to the slab. I had to have another contractor remove and reinstall the pocket door because he had incorrectly put it in flush with the wall perpendicular to the opening and did not leave the 4 1/2"" needed for the door casing and also left a gap in the hardwood floor, which was no longer covered by the 4 1/2 of wall that should have been there. He nailed three extra 2 x 4's to the other side that the door closed to making about a 10"" ""wall"" for that side where the casing was to go. Only two of the 2 x 4's could be removed because of the header George had put in (which it did have to have a header). Anyway, now the door is definitely not centered the way it should be. Secondly, the floor repair is horrible. He did not use the 2 x 4's I had purchased and only used the 2 x 4 that were there and some had rotted and I wasn't aware until after walking on it several times and feeling it give under my feet and in some places it actually sinks in enough to catch the toe of my shoe on it and it squeaks. Also, instead of using the floor nailer that I have and offered to let him use, he instead just nailed it in from the top, which I can see was necessary in a few spots but, not for the entire job. I also asked him to install an exterior door which I paid him $250. and also to remove and reinstall a pocket door to the middle bedroom and he wanted to charge $200. I told him all he had to do was remove the top slat and take the old door off of the rails and install the other door (the first one was warped and rubbed, that was the reason to replace it). I told him I would pay him $100 (which was really too much for a job that took about 30 minutes). When he finished framing in the bathroom closet, he informed me he was going to call in someone else to hang the drywall and tape and float and that would be an extra $300 or so. He claimed he only quoted me to frame in the closet. I had asked for a quote to build a closet and he never told me that he was just quoting installing the 3 x 4's. That was when I told him ""so long''....it's been good to know you. I really did not pay close enough attention while he was doing the work or I would have insisted he do it right but, being inexperienced at having work like this done, I was too trusting and really didn't check the work closely at the time thinking he was highly recommended and had good reports on your list. What an expensive lesson. I realize I should have written this report a lot sooner but, I have had a lot of projects going on and still have more to do and I have been gone a lot.

Description of Work: Removed laundry closet door and replaced it with a larger door. He did great work. Was amiable and professional. I really liked him. But I found out later that my neighbor had the same thing done just as nicely by someone else for 200.00! And since it took so little time ( even including his lunch break ) I feel that 472.00 was a lot to pay for a hollow core laundry closet door. I had neglected to get a written estimate in advance. My bad.

George Godin was professional, reliable, on time and careful with his work. A conscientious and competent handyman who was honest about what he was licensed to do and what he wasn't. He gave us a fair estimate, went with us to the hardware store to pick out fixtures we needed and installed them to our satisfaction. I will be referring him to my friends.

It was hung securely. Made to light up and function as a train light should. It adds to the whole train theme in the waiting area. It has been great and the families love the whole waiting room. Come see it for yourself anytime during working hours.
Description of Work: We have a new pediatric office with a train theme. We purchased a large train crossing sign to add to the waiting area. It was large, heavy and in pieces when delivered. TMC Construction was hired to rebuild it and figure out how to safely hang it on the wall and make it functional.

It didn't take long and sure has helped the look of the dining area.
Description of Work: I had an old outdated wet bar off of my dining room which needed upgrading. George took ceramic tiles and custom cut them and redid the top and installed a new sink and plumbing. It now looks like it is all new and modern. He also installed new crown molding in the dining room and a decorative medallion above the light. I'm totally happy with the new look.

The work was perfect.I just described to him roughly what I wanted and after a few days, there it was! He cleaned up after himself and even went over and above what was asked of him.
Description of Work: George built a large pergola over my back porch and over an existing koi pond. It is so solid, I think if a high wind were to come, the porch would be standing even though the house might not. It has added so much outdoor space for entertaining and shade for the pond. George also laid saltillo tile on the existing concrete floor which looks wonderful and so colorful. He then built a solid wood bench seat around the whole pond so people can sit and visit or enjoy the fish. The whole thing looks so finished. It looks like it could be in a deck and patio magazine.

The first day he was here, he cut through a wire without turning off the power and shocked himself. Rather than drill holes thru the studs to re-route plumbing for the new faucet, he cut the studs out of the wall. Rather than re-route the PVC plumbing to allow for the new larger diverter, he splayed the pipes out and put them in a bind. When I asked him to cut the pipes and re-route them with 90's, he used smaller pipe, which has caused loss of water pressure immensely. He installed the hardi-backer wrong side and facing out. He left huge cracks and holes where the hardi-backer sheets met and did not seal the cracks and holes. He ruined the cartridge in my brand new $450 Kohler diverter by not removing the cartridge before soldering on the diverter. The cartridge is plastic so it melted. He also melted the plastic template for the diverter. When I asked him for the documentation that had come with the Kohler plumbing he said there wasn't any. That day after he left, I found all of the documentation in the bottom of the garbage can he'd been using. It was covered in food & garbage, but I cleaned it up and I still have it. He had said he could build custom cabinets from the beginning. Then out of the blue, he called me from a cabinet shop 30 miles away one day and said he was going to have them make the cabinets. When he would agree to pick something up to install, I would always tell him to get excellent quality things. Invariably, he would arrive with the cheapest, cheesiest thing he could find. The heater/fan that I wanted installed is a good example. The one he brought was a $7 flimsy thing. I returned it and bought a Nutone brand with a heater and exhaust fan for $80. I couldn't depend on him to use good judgment on anything. The day I caught him cutting the studs out of my wall, I had him put new studs back in (luckily, I had a couple of spare 2 x 4s in the garage) to avoid compromising the integrity of my home's structure. I then paid him and told him that he and I would have to "part ways" because I had lost confidence in him. He left after he cleaned up a big mess he'd made. Or at least I THOUGHT he was cleaning up. I sat in the living room waiting for him to clean up his mess in the bathroom. For a few months after that, I kept having plumbing problems. The toilets and showers kept backing up. We are in the country and have a septic system. I called and had the tanks pumped out. Then the plumber came and ran an auger thru the lines. A block of wood about 4 x 2 inches was knocked out of the drain by the auger and fell into the tank. I recognized it. It was one of the pieces of the studs George had cut out with a reciprocating saw. I guess George Godin was angry at me for letting him go, so he decided to cause me some trouble. What he didn't understand is that we are on a septic system and if anyone puts anything down my drain, I can easily find out what it was. So George, if you read this...I know what you did. And the plumber said the only way that block of wood could have gotten down my drain was for someone to shove it in there.
Description of Work: I wanted to have my master bathroom re-done. I hired George Godin on a word-of-mouth referral. He was to remove a tub, cabinets, old tile, sheetrock, lighting, and a mirror. He contracted to build a new shower enclosure, new custom cabinets, install tile, glass block, new toilet, new lavatory, new heater, new lighting, new mirrors, texture, paint, install all trim, plumbing and re-plumbing, and cabinet and door hardware. Beginning two weeks prior to his start date, I had asked him several times for a written contract. Finally, on the evening before he was to begin, I asked him for the contract again, and told him that he could not start until I had the contract in hand. It should be itemized with subtotals for each item and a grand total for all of the work to be done. He faxed me an invoice listing a lot of what he had agreed to do, but it was incomplete. He had not itemized by line item, but rather, each item had zeros in the "amount" all the way down, and it just gave a grand total for everything that was to be done, $4300. This was for labor only. I was to buy all materials. We had agreed that as work was completed, I would give him a draw. He was to be paid for 30%, then 60% and finally 100%. He started on 6-11-07. By 6-18-07 he had not gotten even 10% of the work done when he asked me for $1000. He was showing up at 10:30 or 11:00 a.m. and leaving by 2:00 pm every day. We had a vacant rental house on our property at the time, and he kept asking me if he and his helper could just stay there instead of driving back and forth every day. He was really pressuring me on that, and my husband was not home at the time. I told him they could not stay there, and even after I had told him no, he continued to pressure me about them staying there. We are in a rural area, and I was not comfortable having two men that I did not know staying in a nearby rent house. I thought this was very bold on his part.
