Ted Tovar Painting & Construction

Bought granite from local granite stone eco., they gave me Mr. Tovar’s number. He came to our house and gave us approximate price. Waited over a week to hear from him. He promised to come over. I told him what I would like. (Now he is a fast talker didn’t really listen, kept telling me what I wanted) A week later came and demolished existing counters, telling me he needed $300.00. He moved fridge as requested and dishwasher. On the Monday wrote on a Manila envelope the quote, promising a contract next time. He wanted $2500.00 with another $2000.00 later. I had to show him the lights I wanted as he kept insisting in ceiling lights. I went to Home Depot bought my lights. As far as cabinets go, they were built by a good carpenter. Although a lot was reused old cabinets. He painted over my walls I had to buy a gallon of paint to cover his mess. A number of cabinets did not dry well, after the second day he put on second coat. Missing window ledge. He asked my husband for more money, my husband said once finished. Man insisted he needed at lease $1000.00, which I paid. The man was unhappy. Monday he started picking up his things which made me think he was not coming back. I paid him $800.00 with his promise to connect fridge and dishwasher before Easter if granite was installed before Good Friday. Did not. Would not answer phone and voice mail was full. He sent his son to connect appliance. He wanted another $300, which I said not until finished. He also said the backsplash was nor included in $5000.00 already paid. I complained to granite company but as I did not get contract or receipts there is nothing I could do. All I have is the checks paid to him. Do not know if he decided I was an old fool, which reflecting on I probably am. I’ve at least found someone to do the jobs unfinished by Mr. Tovar. Don’t know what I can do, but an exciting remodeled kitchen wad ruined by this man. Very unsure of contacting anyone. But this job has cost me double because of him. One thing the men he hired to do the work were very nice and good at what they did. But they could only do what he told them.

I received a referal for Mr. Tovar from a woman I work with. I am fixing up a new house I bought and am new in the area. I telephoned Mr. Tovar, and he arrived to see the work I wanted done. He was somewhat abrupt, and I was not sure he heard what I wanted. HOwever, his crew arrived the following week and worked for approx three days, completing each of the jobs I had requested. Everything was completed as requested and with attention to detail. I am very pleased with the work. He is supposed to return to install the lighting. In the fall I am going to be doing some landscaping and possibly putting additional insulation in my attic. I was pleased to learn that Mr. Tovar refers work out if he does not feel he has the expertise. It's great when someone knows their limit. I highly recommend Mr. Tovar.
