As of September 12th, we had paid them $38,000 and the job was still not complete. Many times we called we were told that some part of the job will be done by a certain date, but we have been disappointed time after time. There have been other times when we have been told "we don't know when the work will be finished at all.". We've also been told cabinets will be delivered by a Friday, and no cabinets would show up and we would not receive any call as to why there was no delivery. Over and over I would call and try to be pleasant to ask when the job would be ready but would get an answering machine. Finally I would reach the owner who would refer me to his employee. The excuses ranged from doctors appointments to a broken trailer. The trailer story was used in the spring and again in September. At the beginning we were promised that this work would be done by May 1, in front of our decorator. When they would bring something over, they would ask for another $2000. So we wanted to keep the job going so we would pay them. One time we refused and they said they could not go any further unless we paid them, so we did. They finally called and said they were resigning from the job and we could come and get the stuff they had partially finished and also the wood they had ordered in for our job, their notes and so forth. They signed an agreement that they do not owe us anything and we don't owe them anything. Of course, this is not the result I would have liked. I do not have a good feeling about recommending this company to anyone. Because of them we lost months on building our house because of the cascade of things that happen after the cabinets are in: plumbing, countertops, trim work and painting. All of this was delayed for months because of this. We went into over time with our lender and had to pay over $13,000 in penalty fees. If we had fired them from the job, they could have sued us for not keeping them on, the contract we signed with them was so broad. It did not have a completion date, just their verbal promise to have it all finished by May 1, witnessed by our decorator. I arranged for my new cabinet co. to pick up the left over stuff that was not finished & when Signature found out I was sending a competitor, miraculously, in the same sentence, the trailer was now available. The items were promised on Mon. but were not delivered until the next day or so. One time I told them I knew they had taken other jobs in front of ours, but the lady denied it. I told her this was not true: I gave her the other decorator's name& she became quiet. From time to time they would say they were afraid we were going to sue them, but we never did say we were contemplating this. We just wanted them to give us the cabinets. My husband was sure mad. At times, I wondered if they wanted us to fire them, so then they could sue US for breach of contract. 8 months and the job was still not finished. Would you hire them?
Description of Work: We hired them in February 2008 to make cabinets for our entire house that we are building.
