My girlfriend and I are recent home owners (moved in 6/28/14) and did some minor work to the home. I would not consider myself a handyman and have only done drywall work once and never set tile. What happened was we got a leaky shower pipe to the guest bathroom that need to be fixed. The plumbing work was covered by the warranty but the access to the leak was not. The plumbers broke six tiles in the master shower to access the leak in the guest shower. The leak was enough to cause some of the drywall in the guest bathroom to become moldy. So after the plumbing work was done we needed someone to set six new tiles in the master and redo the moldy drywall in the guest. While I browsed Angie's list my girlfriend found Mark from Trash for Treasures saying he had 10 years experience and could come give us a quote that night. We agreed to meet him and he came over around 7pm. Gave us an estimate to fix the drywall for 130 and the tile for 50. Since he seemed ready to get to work we thought why wait? We all went to Lowes and got the supplies and he would start work the next day (Sunday) at 9am. On Sunday he came over at 10am and went to work. Around 12:30 he felt he was done, I woke up from a nap and went to look, the float and tape job was horrible but he said when it dries it wouldn't be noticeable. I can only assume he did the tile work all at once instead of laying the mortar then place the tile wait for it to dry then use the grout. After we paid him and came back from lunch with my mom a closer inspection showed he had broken off a piece of the tub tile and instead of cutting one piece of drywall he cut multiple pieces and the tape and float job looked as if he didn't sand the original down to blend the new pieces with it. To make the rest of this long story short...... Don't get someone without reviews Don't get someone from Trash for Treasure to do handyman work for you. Either deal with the learning curve of DIY or hire someone with reviews to do it.
