Always get a written quote from this vender!!!!!!!! You could be surprised when you get the bill. And make sure they finish the work. One estimator gave me one view of cost of the job and Katherine then sent me a bill that was several hundreds of dollars more. Then, they did not even finish the job even thought I emailed them that the old door was still sitting in my living room and should have been hauled off! Scope of work was not defined for me but they sure defined how much money they were going to gouged out of me. Sad because the workmanship was very good! Again, you see their ads all over the Island but beware. All things are better with a firm contract. Otherwise, they could assume a blank check if you live in this area.
Description of Work: Very small job. Get a written quote from these people. Nothing verbal. You see their ads all over the island but beware.

Katherine is very good at communicating job status, especially as I was doing this from out of town. She emailed pictures, receipts and made numerous trips for building supplies as we decided on tile, paint, etc. We were comfortable to expand the scope of the project working with Katherine. We had some problems with the subcontracted painter, but they brought in another painter to do the job correctly. The kitchen and bathroom cabinets, tile and drywall were the major portion of the project. We were unable to inspect the project until a couple weeks after completion. When we inspected it, we found that the trash was not removed, overspray was not cleaned up and there was plaster clumps in many areas of the house. In this condition, it was too difficult to paint the interior. I called Katherine on the weekend to ask her about the trash. David and Katherine were at our property within the hour with a trailer to haul away the trash and walk through the property with us. Evidently the subcontractor represented that he had finished cleanup, but did not. We returned the next weekend and they had cleaned up satisfactorily, retextured as needed and even boarded up a leaking window as the tropical storm was blowing through. The management lesson learned is "Trust, but Verify." I think if they would've walked through completely with a critical eye, they would've taken care of these things without further prompting. Overall satisfied with thier work with a caveat to ecourage better final quality control.
Description of Work: We contracted Katherine and David to refinish the kitchen and bathroom cabinets, tile kitchen backsplash and walls, remove wallpaper and texture walls, texture various other areas of the house, install drywall and texture bathroom walls, tile bathtub/shower surround repair wind damage on exterior siding, remove "popcorn" cielings and retexture bedroom cielings.

I was happy that when I called, I was told that they did high quality work, although they weren't necessarily cheap. I was fine with that, but I realize that cost is a factor when replacing an item (if it's too costly, then the item is a total loss). However, in this case, I believed that something can be done to extend the life, or salvage the building and make it right. After the owner came out, he told me that minimally, it would cost $6800 to repair the foundation, or > $8000 to put a slab under it. I asked what he thought my building would be worth repaired, and he replied $22,000. I balked at the repair price, and he suggested that I just leave the building as it, and it will eventually crumble to the ground. . . In other words, there was no reasonable solution offered. They may provide good quality work, but ultimately if their costs are out of line, good luck getting any of my business. I could have gotten a very nice, new building built for less than $6,000, so it made no sense to repair at that price. However, it also made no sense to just let the building rot. However, I did find a solution via another handyman that solved my issues, for much less money.
Description of Work: Got an estimate for releveling/correcting my 12x20 storage building, which unfortunately was not put on a sufficient foundation, but was built very well above the foundation. This building was in place when I bought my house. The building needed to be lifted off the ground, and some pier foundation put underneath it. Also, the floor joists and flooring needed to be replaced, as the wood is not treated / exterior grade, and has been damaged.

Response from Island Creations
I am always amazed at how some of the people we come across tell us of how they get jobs completed cheaper. The member was polite and helpful with his needs for this delima. His situation was a nicely built storage unit without a sufficient foundation. The order of repair is to obtain approval from your engineer first ($350) then get the 2 permits needed ($275). Construction starts with building a base to raise the structure with bottel jacks. Then comes removal of floor for dig out by hand in hard clay for concrete foundation, then removal of sill plates that were rotted, then replacement of sil plates with treated lumber, lowering structure and anchoring. I HOPE THE MEMBER IS BEGINNING TO SEE MY POINT. If he obtained this project for less than $8,000 I know it was not to code thus it would be uninsurable and the owner could be facing a fine from the city ($350) for non-compliance and potentially be told to tear it down. The premium built storage unit like this that meets all codes with concrete foundation and electrical should go for $80 a square foot ($19,200). I hope all my figures are wrong for the member's sake. And I wish him the best enjoyment of his completed project. My comments to him was use and enjoy the building for years until the rot would render the building unsafe. We did not do any work for this individual. Thanks David Pierce Vice President Island Creations
