Lupe has a terrible time completing the work he agrees to, and he will absolutely cut you off from all contact when he is bored with dealing with your job. In the intial job, he painted as agreed for what we believed to be a fair price. We did have problems during the project. First, he asked for gas money during the middle of the project. Second, my husband's watch was stolen during the project. We are 99% sure it was not him, but another guy he hired on the project. Third, there were some minor paint spills on the carpet during the project. Fourth, he wanted cash instead of a check because he didn't have an account in which to deposit it right away on a Friday afternoon. (We gave him a check anyway.) After this project, my neighbor hired him to paint the exterior of his house. While he was next door, we repeatedly called Lupe and asked him to come over to clean up the paint spills. By the time we figured out the watch was stolen, we wanted to talk about that too. We repeatedly asked his crew to give him the message to send him over next door. Neither the messages nor the discussions motivated him to ever speak to us again. On 7/22, my in-laws bought the house across the street and needed it repainted. They got a few quotes, but they knew that Lupe had painted our house very cheaply. They decided to get a quote from him, even thought we warned them of the stolen watch and difficulties reaching him if there are problems with the job. They hired him to the do the job and we decided to hire him to stain our fence. When he gave us the quote, we discussed the stolen watch and paint spills. He seemed genuinely mortified about the situation and gave us a discount on the paint job. He also offered to install another fan for free. We told him that we were willing to pay to install the fan, but he insisted. The paint job on the fence went great, and my in-laws were happy with the paint job in their house. Unfortunately, he skipped out on them before finishing the work he agreed to do for them, despite messages left asking him when he was available to do it. Additionally, he did not finish the installation job on the fan. He was confused about the wiring, and he wanted to ask an electrician friend some questions (or bring him over? we were never sure). Worst of all, he left our brand new fan in a state of discrace, with parts mixed up in a box of old light fixture parts. Now we are missing screws and a rubber gasket to keep it from knocking. Not suprisingly, he NEVER showed up when promised, and he never returned our calls. Even though he assured us he'd clean it up before he left, the paint stains remain on our carpet. Lupe doesn't finish his jobs, period. We were idiots for hiring him again. We were even bigger idiots for giving him the check before he finished the fan. I wanted to write this Angie's List review as soon as this happened, but for some reason I couldn't find him on it. As we are on our way to home depot today to get a new ceiling fan to replace our now unusable one, I wanted to check one more time to see if he was on Angie's List. The least we could do is make sure that everybody else knows what kind of person they're dealing with. He's very capable of painting, but he's a very poor businessman with extremely poor ethics. You get what you pay for.
Description of Work: Lupe Davilla cleaned and stained our cedar fence out back on 7/22/10 for the price shown. We also hired him to install a ceiling fan in our office. At this time, he also painted my in-laws living room, master bedroom, bathroom, dining room, and guest bath. He also painted the base boards. Previously (not included in this job), he had painted our bedroom, sitting room, living room, guest bath, and master bathroom. In this previous job he also installed two ceiling fans in bedrooms and two ceiling fans outdoors.
