I've just had the unfortunately experience in learning a very expensive lesson. Back in 2011, we had to have a new air handling and AC system installed. I decided to go with Bodine-Scott. The proposal was done11/25/11 on 2-part paper. My copy was the BOTTOM copy. On this proposal, the warranty on parts is 10 years. This process was done with a salesman. The installation was completed a week or so later and I was given the installation manual with the Model and Serial numbers already written out. Apparently, I was expected to read this installation manual, although I have now browsed it and still don't see any warranty information. Fast forward JUST OVER 5 years. The motor goes out the day before the coldest weekend of the year. I called Bodine-Scott Friday morning around 10a. I got voicemail so I left a message with my name and number. I waited a couple hours and got no callback. Around noon I call again. Voicemail again. I got frustrated and called another company to come fix it. AAA Air Condition and Heating (remember this name - they are fantastic!), came out pretty quickly. Unfortunately, a part needed to be ordered, but hey - that happens. They got it ordered ASAP so it would arrive Monday morning. However, when they checked with the manufacturer, it was discovered that my unit was not registered after installation so the warranty was therefore only 5 years (remember when I said "just over" 5 years?). Great, no warranty. Part and Labor now $1080. OUCH! I won't say I remember the exact conversations from the sale and the installation on the unit 5 years ago. I CAN assure you that had I known I was supposed to register the unit to validate the warranty, I would've done so before I even filed the paperwork. Yes, I have all product manuals and service invoices filed - I keep it all. When I called Bodine-Scott, they said Yep - customer is supposed to register the equipment or 10 year warranty is NOT valid. My reply, naturally, was nobody told me that little nugget of information. They then said, well it's on the proposal (remember, I have the bottom copy and this was over a week before the installation). I looked at my copy to exactly where they said to look. They seem to be convinced it is there. However, my copy has a bunch of random letters and numbers that appear to be serial and/or model numbers. There is something written underneath that - and I have a picture that I uploaded - but it is handwritten and indecipherable. To make a long story even longer... I asked AAA and also called 3 other random HVAC companies. All 4 said THEY register the unit NOT the customer...4 for 4. I had the bad luck of hiring the one that doesn't. To be a fair review, I will tell you, Bodine-Scott made an "offer" to try and make it right...They offered to fix it for $1,049. A whopping savings of $31. I saved $79 when AAA waived the service call fee and their repairmen were wonderfully polite, professional, and fast. Dear Bodine-Scott, no thanks, never again! NOTE: On the photo of the proposal: Now that they told me it says "register online" and I was able to enlarge it via the photo (and flash) - I can sort of see it. However, 5 years ago, it looked like more of the model/serial number stuff. That line is in the equipment section. The actual Warranty section in under that - with the Header "Warranty System #1". It looks the same for "Warranty System #2".

The sizing was not done properly. The actual installers did good work but the system was not properly sized so I ended up with an AC that blows very strong and sounds loud. They said it was done right and I disagree.

Description of Work: Installed brand new 16 SER Carrier Unit outside and new gas furnace also a Carrier on the inside closet. Removed all 35 year old flex duct work in the attic and replaced. Rebuilt everything. Work was excellent. Took 3 days from start to finish.

They were very good. There was an issue after the first visit but they made to us. Once the issue was found, they were back with us immediately and we got a discount because they didn't catch it the first time. They have excellent response time. It was good service.

The dispatcher, Melissa, was kind and listened to my concerns. The tech, Israel, came in a very reasonable time frame and worked hard in our hot house/attic to fix the broken system. He identified and repaired the urgent A/C problem, plus an very serious safety concern regarding the wiring. He immediately solved the safety concern. He gave us options for solving the problem on a long term, because the previous owner of this house took shortcuts. Pricing was very reasonable, and I felt that the tech was professional, honest, and thorough. We will certainly hire them to come back and do the future repairs needed for the heat system, and I'm very very very happy that I will have A/C tonight when I sleep. What I really appreciated here was that the tech told us what was urgent, what can wait, and what our choices are. The cost for the urgent work was extremely fair. We are on a tight budget because we just bought the house, and this really helps us plan for the expenses that we know we will face.
Description of Work: Our tech Israel fixed our broken a/c system on a Saturday afternoon!! (It was getting HOT in this house!!!) He also found safety issues and problems not identified by the home inspector before we bought this home 4 months ago. He was prompt, professional, honest, and thorough. He was polite about our puppies that barked at him rudely and explained what was wrong to my husband. We are from a cold climate, and central heat/a/c is all new to us.

Description of Work: changed out the compressor for the 2nd time. new 5/27/06, 1st compressor replaced on 8/30/10. second compressor replaced 4/17/14. due to faulty installation when new, i am now on 3rd compressor in 8 yrs. i was charged $605 for puron due to bodine-scott's negligence on original installation. also i had to fight to get them to honor the 10 yr parts and labor warranty when the infinty thermostat failed(they wanted $550 for it as they had no record of my warranty. and other things

Bodine-Scott must hire poor technicians. They have visited my CRP home on more than a few occasions for the same recurring problem. On the final service call their tech suggested replacing the 20 amp breaker with a 40 amp. This slick move almost burned down the house. I finally called another company and the issue was repaired with no further problems. I will not have Bodine-Scott in my home and I will discourage others from hiring them.

It didn't solve the problem. Called them 3 weeks later to tell them it was still on going, and they said they would not adjust the fee for coming again. It NEVER was fixed. I don't expect anyone to work for free but I've been a customer for 10 years and when you pay for a housecall and they totally miss I think they should come and make it right.. I also paid for their maintenance program and they only bothered to come out one time. Had someone else come out today, Annaville AC. They found the real source of the problem and now it is fixed. Bodine Scott put this AC in about 10 years ago. I'll be due for a new one shortly and I won't be calling Bodine Scott...

We pride ourselves in taking care of our customers and believe that we have provided you with outstanding service for 10 years. Unfortunately, at the time you called in to our office, we were training a new dispatcher and she did not know that she had some flexibility when dealing with customers. Our company policy is that if we need to come back to your house within 30 days, and the issue is the same as before, we will waive the service charge, as we have done with you in the past. On May 7, 2012, we ran a service call to your address. At that time, we recommended you replace the liquid line drier and asked you to call us if you had any more problems. On May 21, 2012, you called back and stated you were having problems again. Again we advised replacing the liquid line drier. We did waive the service charge at that time. If, within the 30 days, the issue is a different one, the customer will be charged the service fee. We do apologize if there was any miscommunication. We have trained the new dispatcher on this procedure and will diligently work to assure that this communicated to all future trainees. I have researched your concerns regarding the maintenance contract issues and you are correct in that we have only been out to your home once. We would be more than happy to schedule the second inspection at your convenience. Please let us know when you would like that to be done. Prompt and courteous answer when I called. Scheduled a same day response window of this afternoon between 1:30pm-5pm. Technician called my cell phone with 45 minutes of notice and showed up at 2:15, on time. Technician diagnosed my A/C for $85 service call fee. Found two fuses in the outside condenser blown and replaced them both at $18 each.
Description of Work: Found 2 blown fuses in my condenser unit outside and the home is cooling now!

Came, said had no parts, would be between $3000-$7000 after a consultant came out to replace entire system. Lied about availablity of existing freon. Changed flat service call and left. Had it repaired professionally two days latter by an A class Aggie list service. Just the compressor was needed with all new outside parts and warranty for a fraction of the cost.

I have researched your concerns and have made the following discoveries. When our technician, who is a NATE certified technician with 9 years experience, arrived, you told him that your system was not cooling. At that time, he inspected the indoor unit and found that the issue was not with the indoor unit. He then proceeded to inspect the condensing unit outside. As soon as he looked at it, he noted that the fan blade had broken off of the unit and had lacerated the U bends and had punctured the coil. You then asked the technician to put Freon into the unit. The technician notified you that EPA regulations do not allow charging a unit with Freon when there is a leak because the Freon would leak out into the environment. He also noted that your current system is 16 years old. At that time, the technician advised you that because of the age and condition of the equipment, and the need for major repairs, it might be best to replace the system.

I am happy to share a POSITIVE experience with my fellow Corpus Christians. I live in Lamar Park and our house was built in about 1952. Our central A/C unit is five years old. It was NOT purchased from Bodine-Scott. Last night I noticed water in the hall closet where it is installed. Of course, I went to Angie's List to find a reputable repair person and the following morning, Saturday, I called several but was unable to connect with an available repair person except for one that charges double the $69 hourly rate for weekend work so I passed. I went to the yellow pages next and ran across Bodine-Scott and recalled the company who I have had a positive opinion of in the distant past. A tech named Tristan called back immediately and arranged an appointment in an hour. He arrived on time. I could not be more pleased with the service that Tristan provided to us. This A/C unit is installed in a tight space and getting underneath to examine it isn't easy. Water was dripping from above so the obvious suspect was a plastic pan that is installed underneath the coil. A leak in that pan is a labor intensive fix and expensive. But Tristan didn't try to sell us that job. Instead, he continued to evaluate the unit hoping it might be something simpler and quickly discovered the pump wasn't working. Rather than simply replace it he worked awhile to see if it could be cleaned and restored to good use. Taking it apart he discovered it was full of a slimy bacteria and Tristan took it outside and cleaned it thoroughly. Then it was tested and found to be working fine. That saved us $300. He also used a high pressure air hose to blow out the scum that had accumulated in the exit line, as well. The unit seemed to be okay at this point and Tristan noted that the insulation was so wet that it might drip for awhile but rather than close up and go Tristan continued to watch the unit operating for several minutes and said he something's still not right with the pan drainage. So he began working on the side of the unit, removing several pieces of the cabinet to get a better look. He discovered what he called a and ldquo;weep holeand rdquo; in the side of the coil pan and he suspected the water leaking from above had come from there. He then discovered an extra exit drain that had not been capped off as it should have been and capping it together with the restoration of the pump solved the problem of the pan overflow. I am writing this some twelve hours later and the unit is performing beautifully! As soon as he left I called the company and expressed my appreciation and I feel this brief report is the very least I can do for the quality of work that was done for us by Bodine-Scott and the price that was actually LESS than what I expected to pay. Description of Work: Central A/C unit in hall closet was leaking water. Bodine-Scott's repairman, Tristan, arrived on time, found all problems and fixed them. It was not an easy job but Tristan did stay with the repair until he had found and fixed several problems. It is now working as it should and I paid much less than I feared it would cost. Good job!
