Description of Work: Great service! I think, though, that they are a bit expensive for the 45 minutes of work provided... Overall, their report corresponded largely to what my foundation repair guy had told me... Next time, I might be tempted to save a few hundred dollars by skipping that stage.

Description of Work: Performed independent assessment to determine whether foundation repairs necessary. Jason was very professional, and I really appreciated the level of detail in the report. It's sad that I had to resort to getting an independent, unbiased opinion from an engineering company; however, I look at it this way. I paid $450 but ended up saving over $12,500 or more for unnecessary foundation work, and more importantly, feel like I have piece of mind. It's regrettable that even supposedly well known foundation companies who are also on Angie's List would tell me that I needed numerous piers to repair foundation problems. I had estimates from 6 companies. The two that said nothing was needed were random and not on Angie's List. Most disturbing is that when a well known company around for 50 years would tell me that 25 piers were needed, it makes one question who you can trust in the foundation industry. I figure you guys can be trusted since you have nothing to gain by recommending that repairs are not needed!

Description of Work: We want to repair/replace flooring in one of our bathrooms. The underlayment of the floor had become severely cracked. I wanted to be sure that there were not issues with the structure that needed to be repaired before doing cosmetic work on the floor. | |I found a couple of structural engineering firms. One doesn't do pier and beam (which my house is). Another highly recommended one was too busy to handle us for over a month. | |Other structural engineering firms were either too specialized or too busy to helop us quickly. | |But Lighthouse engineering was able to inspect the house on a timely basis. They were punctual, efficient, courteous. They allowed me to go along at every step and they discussed results as they found them and at the end of the inspection. They provided an electronic written report promptly by email. | |In every way, I was happy with them. They even quoted an estimate, which was what they charged. I'm not familiar enough to know if their fee was customary. I graded them B on Price more because they were more expensive than I hoped rather than because I actually know they were at the higher than normal.

Description of Work: I was sure that we would need foundation repair but, after their Engineering evaluation of our foundation we were pleasantly surprised that we did not need foundation work. Their report was very informative and now we feel good about going forward with other planned home improvements.

Description of Work: Buying a new house, we had a general home inspector that raised a number of red flags about the slab foundation on the house. 36 year old slab, approximately 3400 s.f. My realtor gave me two options: call a foundation repair company and have them come out for free or pay $400 for a structural engineer. And if you get the free foundation repair company evaluation, just KNOW that they will find something that you need to fix. I opted for the $425 and an unbiased structural engineer, who came out, ran the measurements, and found no issues. For such a large slab it was off only 1 to 1-1/2" at the far corners, which he said for a 36 year old slab to have moved only that much is pretty darn good. Worth the $425 for peace of mind and the 100% unbiased evaluation. Not saying the foundation companies are scam artists at all, because 1-1/2" of movement is still movement, so why WOULDN'T they sell you piers to fix that? Just nice to hear it's not a problem from a structural engineer. The receptionist was a delight to talk to a schedule and the engineer was prompt and courteous. Would use them again if I ever suspect foundation issues in a house.
