D&R Irrigation & Lighting

This is a complicated review because D & R was kind enough to respond to a Saturday emergency request to fix a failed sprinkler system but didn't totally fix the problem. Our sprinkler main valve lost power while we were out of the country. My son contacted D & R and they sent out a technician who spent 2 1/2 hours diagnosing the problem. We were given two choices: (1) Manually open the solenoid and risk a main line leak than would be very expensive in water loss but gets the system working or (2) Run a new electrical line at a cost of $800. We elected option 1 and repair the problem when we got home. The cost for the diagnostic service was $400. We found this bill very high but it was emergency service rates. However, we were charged $18 for six wire caps or $3 apiece. These caps cost about 52 cents but I'm sure they get them a lot cheaper. Nickle and dime charging is not good. Once home we found a good sprinkler repair man who took 3 1/2 hours to completely diagnose and repair the problem. In the process he used about 6-8 wire caps because he found that the original installer (Choate) had not put wire caps on some wires. His total bill, not itemized, was $275 for the work he performed on a Sunday. Now D & R has a web site and other overhead to consider but there are two main observations: (1) D & R did not fix the problem but was 1.5 times more expensive than our guy and (2) D & R would, had we used them, been almost 4.5 times more expensive to fix the problem. The first observation was most concerning as our repair did show any serious investigation into the problem. That is to say that D & R, after 2 1/2 hours, did not know where the problem was in the yard.

Our yard was a mess. After rain we had a lot of standing water. The soil was so compact even weeds did not grow in places and the grass we had left was thin. We also had overgrown trees and shrubs and the brick around the flower beds was uneven and falling apart. David gave us options to address the drainage issue by re-working the soil and adding a French drain. I know nothing about landscaping so he also came up with a plan to completely tear out the old brick around the flowerbeds and all the old overgrown shrubs. They put in a very nice stone border and all new plants. When everything was done they also rehabilitated my sprinkler system. Throughout the process it was clear these guys took a lot of pride in their work. The result was a fantastic looking yard and we could not be happier. David and his crew were a pleasure to work with.

I am a new home owner. My controller unit will not trigger my sprinklers, and when I manually opened a control valve on front yard, it sprung a leak. I called D&R as well as another company highly regarded in Angies. But the other company quoted me too much money, and was trying to rip me off and they said they were famous! David on the other hand came highly recommended by my friends in Coppell, and had high reviews everywhere. From day one, he was super friendly, and responded immediately to me, and he also texted back promptly and he put me at ease. Very strong work ethics. Eddie and Concho showed up today morning, and it was a very cold day, but they immediately sprung into action and worked so fast and so efficiently, it was a breeze to watch them both and learn. Ed then explained to me the problems and fixed them super fast. They charge by the hour and extra charge for parts (very reasonable). very affordable and nominal. They rebuilt a leaking solenoid control valve, fixed a leaking pipe with a coupler, and replaced a damaged sprinkler head, and connected wires properly on controller and troubleshooted my controller's remote and showed me the flaws in my inspection report. I am so thankful for D&R Irrigation. I will definitely call them for all my needs, it seems they also do landscaping. Great Company David. Excellent staff. Keep up the good work D&R
