Great! Donald, the service technician that came out to repair the springs for my garage door was Wonderful! He knew what he was doing and completed the job in a very timely manner. He answered all my questions I had during the repair process. He was professional, polite and respectful. Many thanks to O'Brien Garage Doors for your prompt and courteous service! This includes Victor too, he made the job possible when taking my call for the requested service. Same day service was provided.

The service was performed only to the extent that they came out for initial inspection. They demanded full payment upfront in cash (check) and fully agreed to be here this morning by 9:00am at latest for installation of two new garage doors. They didn't bother to call to say that they were running late. Finally at 9:30 my husband called to find out what was going on. They were still at suppliers. "Not our fault" was their only response. They then promised to be at our home ""absolutely no later than 10:30". We cancelled at 10:50 -- with no further attempted contact from them. Yes, in the interim of their tardiness I checked YELP and Angie's. Not willing to further risk a shoddy and overpriced ($2400) job when it's starting off with such lack of integrity. So, here's to another F cut short.

Horrible - do not use them. They sent someone over for estimate and he wanted cash only for a deposit towards the work we were scheduling. They did not show up on the day it was scheduled. They called several times and kept pushing the "window" back a couple hours at a time until they eventually cancelled for the day and then rescheduled. The technician (same guy as the estimator) left materials on the floor in the garage, included one of his tools. The door does not match the style of the other door we have. And 3 weeks later, the new spring broke and they sent the same guy again. At least I was able to point out the tool he left the last time. He tried to charge me for replacing the broken spring - "I will give you a good deal on this one". I blew a gasket and he then said he didn't realize it was the same spring he had just replaced and agreed I shouldn't have to pay for it again. I would not recommend these clowns to my worst enemy.

I called the company as soon as possible, after we were unable to open or close our garage door. The person taking calls was very responsive and assured me that someone would be out by 6:00 p.m. When the repairman found himself caught in terrible traffic, the dispatcher called us and kept us posted about the repairman's expected time of arrival. He managed to get from Magnolia, which is about an hour north of Houston, to our house, which is in West University, by 7:00 p.m. He immediately assessed what needed to be done and gave us an estimate for parts and service. He had replacement parts on his truck, so the work progressed very quickly. He noticed that -- in addition to the broken spring -- one of the cable holders on the side of the door was warped. He updated the service cost, retrieved the part from his truck, and completed the repairs. From the time he arrived, until the time he completed the work, was around one hour. Our garage door is now fully operative.
Description of Work: We were unable to open or close our garage door -- except manually (with great difficulty), because the spring was broken. I called O'Brien from an ad in the Angie's List booklet that we receive each month. The company offers 24/7 service, and we needed the repairs done as quickly as possible.

I was not happy with what they did. They had to come out 3 different times and then they charged me extra for something they should have caught the first time. It was ridiculous that they wouldn't come out, they wanted to charge me extra because I'm a comeback customer because I came out on Sunday. They told me it was my fault that it's broken and they wouldn't do it so they had to come out another day. They charged me for something they should have caught the first time. I paid $500 and turned around and spent a $100 or something and I was not happy with it. He took 20% off the call -- whoopee. The first one was much better, and the second one wasn't. They should have returned my call, made an effort for a return visit even if it was a Sunday, and not charging for time and a half, check everything before they leave the first time. They quoted me $500-something so I thought that would have been fixed, then paying another $120 for something that was still having to do with the door going up and dwon. It did the exact same thing so it was something they didn't fix the first time that they should have caught. He said it was in the machine. I don't know where it was because I wasn't here. They don't leave good notes about what was done. I wasn't that impressed with them. I used the coupon and I still didn't feel like I got the coupon's worth. I didn't have much interaction with them. We talked about it the first time and he showed me what he was doing. 2 1/2 months later, they did the exact same thing. It should have been under warranty. They said it was a different part. I don't know that because I don't know garage doors and I wasn't here, and the fact that he wouldn't call back and give me any explanation. It was also the top guy in this store that was out here doing the second one. I wanted to talk to the guy in charge and he was the one who did it, they wouldn't call me back.

My garage door has been very noisy lately and it has been about 5 years since I had my last "tuneup." I scheduled a tuneup appointment with O'Brien by phone, which was handled very professionally. On the morning of the appointment, O'Brien called and said that the technician had been dispatched and was on the way. He arrived within 20 minutes. The technician, Jim Donohue, did an assessment of my garage door system and gave me his opinion on what he thought I needed. I never felt any pressure or detected any tactic that he was trying to sell me something. I originally just wanted a garage door tuneup, but learned that my springs were at the end of their life (about 20 years old) and badly rusted, and also that the current rollers were made of metal and the bearings were worn out. Jim recommended nylon rollers which are quieter if I wanted to get them replaced. Since I had the funds available, I decided it was time to go ahead with the major overhaul rather than taking a chance trying to squeeze a few more months of life out of the old parts and then having to handle everything on an emergency basis. I told Jim to go ahead and replace the springs and rollers. I also asked Jim his opinion about my garage door opener. He said as long as it's working there's really no need to replace it, but he gave me prices for a replacement model, either chain-driven or belt-driven (about $100 higher). My current door opener is a screw-type, which his company does not install. I decided to keep my current opener until it dies since it's still doing its job. Two hours later, Jim drives away and my garage door is much quieter. I am happy with the work and I feel much better having done it. I thought the price was fair for the work performed. Since I'm a retired person, all these new parts will likely outlast me. I am pleased with the overall experience and I recommend O'Brien Garage Doors to others.

I called O'Brien Garage Doors Repair Specialists to get a FREE quote on repairing our garage door. Before getting off of the phone I specifically verified that this would in fact be a FREE QUOTE. The woman on the other end told me it WAS. I also saw here on Angie's List that they have free estimates. The man (Margarito) that arrived at our home was not professional. We showed him where it was broken on the garage door. Then we asked how much that would be to repair (rollers). He quoted I think $179?! I stated that on Angie's List they have a coupon for about $50. Also we have replaced that specific part ourselves for cheaper. He didn't seem to know what Angie's List was in the first place. He then said, "well I can do it for $100." My husband and I didn't trust the way he was handling the whole situation. He then showed us more on our door that was broken. Then we asked for ALL of those things, how much would that be? He said about $700!!! Then he went on to say that we should just replace our door entirely. Just to see what he'd quote, we asked how much. He quoted $919. We got the quote in writing and then said thank you. He said, "they're telling me to collect $20 from you". I said WHO is? This is a FREE QUOTE. He gave me a look like they didn't have such thing. He said, "who told you that?" I told him the woman on the phone told me AND on Angie's List. We said, we aren't paying $20. He said let me call. He made a "phone call" and then he got off the phone and said to call him when we were ready. Obviously he was VERY aware there wasn't a $20 charge and was trying to pull one over us. Disappointing and sad to think how many people he's scammed $20 off of on their free quotes. Yikes. We are definitely not going to use this company. I am disappointed with the unprofessional way this technician handled himself. I am also surprised by how professional the woman on the phone was compared to the actual technician. Perhaps they are outsourcing beyond a point of quality control.

I apologize for the confusion. Margarito is a new technician, and was confused as to our policies. We have discussed your complaint with him in detail. We did offer you a free estimate, and when he called in to check with the office he was informed of this. The prices he quoted for repair/replacement were valid. We have an angies list coupon out for 99$ tune up and roller replacement which is why he offered a lower price on rollers after checking with the office. We additionally have a $49.50 tune up coupon available, but this one does not include rollers. If you were to replace your door you would get new sections, tracking, springs, rollers, and hardware. Installation on doors is free with the coupon; your grand total would be $919. We are very competitive on our pricing, and have a 5% price guarantee against all of our local competitors. Your written quote is good for 30 days. We value your business, and hope that we can assist you when you are ready to move forward with your project. Please don't hesitate to call if you have any further questions, our service manager would be happy to speak with you directly.

No one showed. Got a phone call right at 3 PM that they had to move our slot to 3PM to 5PM. We agree.d. They never showed at all, no phone call this time. Wife and I had to move other appointments to accommodate this. Better to find out now that a company is unreliable than after a contract. My advice....find another garage door company.

The engineer did a good job and was polite and professional. My only issue was the method of scheduling the visit which was all done using the e-mail facility in the Angie's List website. Over several days, we exchanged e-mails to confirm my address, and then my phone number. Late afternoon, I saw an e-mail that had been sent at noon to say they were coming the next morning. Although it was one of my suggested dates, it was too short notice, so I replied to reschedule. However, the next morning, I got an automated call saying the engineer was on his way, and I had to scramble. In future, I will pick up the phone!

It was easy to work with O'Brien. One, they were very responsive via email and provided me several dates and times to come out. They showed up during the time they said they would. The two gentlemen that came out were easy to work with and listened to the problem i have with the garage. They addressed the issue and also showed me the work they did. Overall, i'm very happy with the tune-up and inspection.

My garage door suddenly stopped working. It had gone up or down once or twice again, but then I couldn't get it to be consistent so I figured something was misaligned. I purchased a deal here for "$49.50 Garage Door Tune-Up with 23 Point Safety Inspection" They came out, but didn't do anything. Said my motor was seized. And I lost my money. Nothing else was checked, lubed, or inspected.

The tech was polite and professional during the work. Knowledgeable and shared tips to help. Then the bomb dropped. This coupon is basically worthless. They don't tell you that they will hit you with the Service Call charge and then hit you again if they have to take out a screw, even though the 'coupon' says they will do minor adjustments. So my $49.50 coupon cost another $97.00 in unexpected, and undisclosed expense only told to me when the invoice was produced and payment requested. Dispatcher tell me? Appointment person tell me? Tech tell me when he arrived? Nope to all three. VERY disappointed and will NEVER use this company again.

O?Brien Garage Doors Angies listed subject business and rated as A or B category services. Additionally, this business advertised same services in local advertisement flyer. I called and obtained the details of Garage Tune-up/maintenance services from the O?Brien Garage Doors who ran special for garage door tune-up for discount price of $49.50 for $129.50 actual value. Kenny(The service provider)did not ring front door bell, instead entered in the back side of the house, had already parked his pick-up in my drive way without my permission. His black pick-up did not have business sign or a logo, uniform or a business identity. He wore black shirt and a short pant, did not demonstrate he represented reputable O?brien Garage Doors. He profiled: a heavy smoker, sprayed heavy scent to deter the smoke smell before attending the duty call, he was observed unfocused, lazy and unprofessional. He placed his old ladder with support of my garage parked Lexus car. In less than 10 minutes, he stated is work was done. I asked him, did he lubricate and checked all the areas for improved performance? He said his work did not include lubricating hinges. The work was not satisfactory as the garage door noise was not eliminated to low level after his visit. I called his dispatch office to report this matter, I was stated his manager Ken will return the call. O?Brien Garage Doors did not call.
Description of Work: A garage door tune-up and normal check was expected. The garage door was working in acceptable mode, though heavy sound in open and close activity was a matter of concern.

I knew that my spring on my Garage Door needed to be tightened and the door could be lubricated and cleaned. The special Deal that O'Brian was running seamed to be a good deal for them to come out, tighten the spring and replace the rollers. When they arrived on site I explained that I knew the spring needed tightening and the garage door a tune up. They guy took a look at it and quoted me an estimate. It may have been my fault for not pointing out that it was an Angies List deal. So once he gave me an estimate I brought up the fact that it was an Angies List deal and so he had to call back to the office and check it out. He then brought up the fact that because I had the longer studs on the rollers I would have an extra charge to the Angies list deal. I figured I had him, I needed the tune up done I did not have much choice but to pay for the extra 20 for the rollers. When he completed the work I felt he had done a good job. The spring had a good tension to it, the garage was a lot quieter. He did confirm my thoughts that I did eventually need a new garage door opener as the one I had was a 1/2 hp and not a 1hp that should have been put on for my door. He then brought up that the total was 130. I was a little confused by the price but knew I had agreed to pay extra for the "long stem" rollers. I am a bit annoyed though that they do not mention in their post when I purchased it that it would be an extra charge for long stem rollers if needed. or "upgraded" parts. Also communication to the tech coming out to install this would have made my experience much better. I would not say O'Brian's is cheap or "reasonable" but probably a "fair" going rate for the market. Not 100% sure I would get them to do the work again, I wish AL had a way to do a possibly instead of a "yes or no".
