Jason gave us an estimate that was very competitive. He was on the job when he said he would be. His work was what he told us it would be. Changes as we went along were no problem, and we agreed on price for changes as we went. There were no hidden charges. Right down to the finishing punch list, he was professional, friendly, easy to work with, and the quality of his work was outstanding. My wife tells me every day how much she loves her new kitchen! I have read the two negative reviews on this site and I am astonished. I know that a customer/contractor relationship can be strained, sometimes the fault of the contractor, sometimes the fault of the customer (he's NOT always right after all). If Jason has a weakness, it's that he bends over backward to please, and sometimes that's still not enough for some people. I would recommend this guy to anyone, and if I were spending another $25,000 to remodel, he'd be the only guy I would call. Don't trust every negative review you see. He has a long list of very satisfied customers you could contact.
Description of Work: This was a complete remodel of our kitchen and nook. Some walls were removed, new cabinets, floor, countertop and backsplash.

Jason was hired to install our Home Depot cabinets. Jason overcut the double oven cabinet and refused to admit the mistake. He also installed a skin with large staples with an obvious seam showing in the center of the cabinet side. The plan clearly showed that this skin was supposed to be installed with the seam placed beneath the countertop so it would not be visible. There are several screw holes that are so deep into the cabinets they have split the wood. The island cabinets were placed together and screwed so tightly without a shim one side split. The cutouts on the floor of the island base were done unprofessionally and were basically just big squares roughly cut instead of circular cuts around the gas line and vent. The trim was attached with large staples which were very visible and ugly. We have since had to hire another carpenter to come in and repair his work. He used WD40 on the surface stripping the stain. Several cabinet pieces have had to be replaced because of the damage done during Jason?s unprofessional installation. Laundry shelving- Was hired to build custom shelving which would include space for washer and dryer and have adjustable shelves. When Jason took measurements of the wall space for this system it was an empty space so could be designed to his specifications in order to fit properly. The shelving covered half the dryer vent hole and Jason?s solution was for US to find a smaller dryer vent tube. The holes for the adjustable shelves DO NOT line up. This is a huge problem as the shelves are not level when placed in the system. The side by side configuration over the washer and dryer was to be evenly spaced, this is off by an inch in both height and width creating misaligned shelving. Door jambs Garage entry door jamb was left with large gaps, over two inches around the frame. The door jamb has several cracks from being screwed incorrectly. The door and jamb to the second floor was installed poorly as well and looks terrible. The jamb was not lined up flush to wall so there is no way to put trim around it. The door installed was damaged and had deep scratches on the backside. The hinges were not placed correctly on the door. Bathroom vanity- I was promised a vanity of solid black walnut wood. Once the vanity was complete I noticed some bubbling on one side and asked Jason what had happened. He said it was just the veneer. I was disappointed to find out that this was not actually solid wood but veneer overlay. We had discussed this vanity in depth and there was never any mention of the use of anything but solid wood for construction. The stain job was done poorly. The door was built to the bottom of the cabinet and would not open if placed on the floor. There is a long scratch on the side that Jason covered with dark wax not visible in low light. Jason lied when I asked if there were any scratches or dents.
Description of Work: Jason was brought on to handle several projects during our home remodel. He claimed to have experience as a professional cabinet installer and specialized in interior trim. He had extensive knowledge of carpentry terms and really seemed confident in handling the project. Unfortunately his knowledge of carpentry seems to end with his vocabulary. Nearly all work done by him is flawed and has caused the need for us to hire a new carpenter to repair his work. We have had to order new cabinet pieces at our expense due to the poor workmanship on his part. Jason is a habitual liar. If you mention anything wrong with the work being performed Jason becomes belligerent and evasive and sneaky to cover up his mistakes. Jason Hoffman was contracted to perform the following: 1. Level the kitchen ceiling through "strongbacks" in the attack. 2. Re frame our kitchen to dining room archway. 3. Install our purchased kitchen cabinets. 4. Custom made vanity in bathroom. 5. Custom shelving in laundry room. 6. Remove fireplace and raise 2" (due to a floor leveling) with an aluminum base. Jason re framed only one side of the entry archway between the dining room and kitchen. I asked why his reply was that he was standing in the dining room and it looked good enough no reason to visit the kitchen side. I had Jason come back out he fixed the left side on the kitchen side of the arch but not the right side. I hired someone else to complete both sides of the archway. This is typical of Jason's work, to do the bare minimum and nickel and dime you with extra charges.

Jason Hoffman is a carpenter. We had a single door before and they put in a double door. We had to buy two locking sets and a longer threshold thing because the remote sensor was involved in it. He did removal of one door and sidelights, and repaired both sides of it. When the hurricane hit, it hit the electrical stuff, and so they had to fix the wall on the inside, right beside the sidelight, because water could come through there. They basically put in two by fours and re-bolted the door on the inside of it. The double door didn?t include the frame around it, and so Jason did the frame around the door. He made some measurements and everything. He was here for one full day, came back another half a day, and when I asked for a meeting, he came for that meeting. He had his apprentice come out and do the actual work. The apprentice didn?t know what he was doing. He put down a piece of oak across the threshold on the inside, and said that he had put Hard As Nails under it because there was a break in the concrete. He didn?t do that - water could come from down there. The apprentice brought his little brother along to do some painting and they messed up the whole floor. When they put the caulking around at the bottom of it, they didn?t even wipe it down, and so there is paint all over my room and carpet. His little brother wasn?t supposed to paint, and so he just ran it up and left it that way with a big white stripe of it. When I called Jason, he told me that the apprentice was a carpenter and not a painter. When they put the door in, there was a major crack where the wood on the door joins. The door would not close securely. When I talked to the door manufacturer, they asked me to look where the lock goes in, for any deviations in the sides of the opening where the lock would go through. I told them that there was no locking device on the door. They told me that Jason doesn?t do things like that. His apprentice cut it and messed it up. The door at the bottom shows insulation that should be there but it isn?t; he had no solution for that. The apprentice didn?t sand in between primers when they did the paint job. He was supposed to use a good primer but he didn?t use it. The paint is as rough as it can be. He took a rag and went over the door with a brown thing, something like antiquing work; the color doesn?t match anything. The doors are mostly leaded glass with some rods on it. So there is very little wood on the doors. When I objected to the apprentice about the color he was using, he didn?t even confirm with his boss, which I would have expected him to. There was no communication. You could not reach Jason. I paid $3200 for the carpentry work. I would not use them again.
Description of Work: I used Hoffman Construction to put in a door about 4 weeks ago.
