It was a horrible experience. It started bad, when Walkoviak failed to use sufficient plastic sheeting to isolate the work areas from the rest of the house. Our home is now filled with dust that was created when Walkoviak removed the existing tile with a jackhammer. It will take months to clean all the dust out of everything. We were left with a terrible mess after Walkoviak had done all the work he would do. He never really finished the contracted work, he just stopped coming after we told him that we had problems with the quality of the work he had done, and refused to give him the final payment for the work until the numerous problems were resolved. He complained constantly about the amount of work, and the time that it was taking, and the additional expenses he was incurring, much of which we ended up paying. This was after he had submitted a bid for the work, which we had accepted. The travertine was not level, and the surface was not sealed properly. We had to hire a second contractor, who spent three weeks fixing the problems that Walkoviak left us. The cost to fix Walkoviak's poor work was approximately $6,000. The drywall work done after the installation of the wall boxes had to be re-done before the walls could be painted. The treads Walkoviak installed on the stairway in the entry area will have to be re-done, because the surface was not sealed properly, and all the nail holes are visible on the steps.
