I would NOT recommend this company to anyone unless I did not like them. They will get the job done but the pricing is beyond belief. Almost $5,000 dollars using my materials in less than 3 hours. OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!
Description of Work: Diagnosed problem after a while. Quoted a price to repair. Did not have parts so I gave them to him out of my truck. Finished up and started adding all these extra costs. Went from 3-4 hundred to Thousands???? Charged 59 or 69 dollars for twisting on each wire nut separately! Even though they were furnished by me.

Thank you for taking the time to review us on angies list, and for your fairness in evaluating us on quality and professionalism. We strive to be the best electrical service company in our area, and we believe we deliver that promise. There are a few errors in your review that we would like to correct, first the parts to splice wires(wirenuts) were not provided by you, as we stock this on our trucks. What was provided was the specialty switches that our Electrician installed(at no charge) The final invoice was not $5,000, but was exactly $1,428.82. Performing electrical work on homes is very technical work that must be done safely and to Code standards, which is why our electricians are state licensed and highly skilled in what they do, and to be honest, it's not cheap to provide this kind of service. We thank you for your business and would like to extend a 10% discount on any future work with us.

I used Covenant Electrical Services because I had prior experience with them in 2012 when Jason did some work for me at my house and at a condo I owned. I was very impressed with him and his pricing was abundantly fair, so that's what I expected this time. Not so. Jason did not do this job, Spencer did, and it is my understanding that Jason does not do jobs anymore, that Spencer does them all, and that Jason manages the business. On a positive note and to give credit where it is due, I will say that Jason got me scheduled quickly, Spencer arrived on time, and Spencer knew exactly what he was doing (understandable because he said he has 45 years of experience). Spencer performed the work within two hours, the work was done very well (with the exception of one caveat below) and he cleaned up after himself. On a negative note, and why I will not use Covenant again, is the pricing. When Spencer gave me the written estimate, I implicitly trusted that the pricing was fair based on my past experience with Jason and based on the fact that I had never had this kind of electrical work done before and did not know what the fair charges were. However, my gut told me that the charges were high, so after the work was done, I contacted my uncle who is an electrician in Austin (also with about 40 years of experience), and texted him a picture of the estimate/receipt. He said that Austin prices are generally higher than Houston prices, and that in Austin, this job would have cost about $700 to $800, so we greatly overpaid for the work. He also questioned why a 60 amp disconnect was placed on a 30 amp circuit. So, I am pretty upset that I overpaid by over four hundred dollars for the work, and that the amps on the disconnect may not be correct. For these reasons, I will not use the company again and will discourage other people from using them as well. If you decide to use Covenant, I would advise getting other bids and not trusting that you will get fair pricing based on past experience with this company.
Description of Work: They installed a 30 amp dedicated circuit, 20-20 tandem breakers, a 60 amp disconnect, and an electrical whip in order to power a ductless AC unit in a garage.

Thankyou for taking the time to review us. It is unfortunate that you came to the conclusion that our pricing is "unfair". With over 20 years in the electrical trade and personally knowing many of the electrical contractors in the area, I assure you our prices are in line, and even lower than many of the service companies in Montgomery County. Thankyou for the honest rating on our quality and service, as we take this very seriously and it is our goal to be top notch when it comes to the quality of service we provide. There is no such thing as a "30 amp disconnect" this is why the electrician installed a "60 amp disconnect" which is the minimum that can be installed in this situation, so it is not unsafe or illegal to install a 60 amp disconnect on a 30 amp circuit and it isn't a higher price for that installation. I'm sorry that you have decided to not use us in the future, but I would like to extend a 10% discount on any future work with us.

I experienced an electrical fire in my pool control box. The fire occurred on a Monday while both my wife and I were away from the house. Damage was contained to breakers and wiring within the box itself but we were very fortunate that the fire did not find a way to spread. My first call was to my pool guy (I just really wasn't sure who to call) ... he said that it was like that he would have to replace significant pieces of the pool control panel, but that first, a certified electrician would have to repair / replace the damaged wiring and breakers. Kevin, though, was smart enough about the electrical to assess the overall problem ... the pool builder, I'm the second owner of the home, never ran enough service to the pool to begin with. The box was way overloaded. At some point, a problem was near inevitable. So, I get all this information together by Friday afternoon. Kevin is very busy and had made two trips to my house at this point. So, I need an electrician to start working this problem immediately, but again, it's Friday afternoon. I pick Covenant as they were well rated and close. Jason is at my house on Lake Conroe, not easy to get to, in 45 minutes! He assesses the problem, and provides a quote: $3100, which matched Kevin's guesstimate. He has to get parts and a helper and plans the work for all-day Monday. Jason and helper show up about 8am Monday morning and start work. He runs new, doubled, service to the box after cleaning up the mess from the fire. His work was very neat and well-organized and very professionally done. They completed by about 4:30pm and, surprisingly, my pool equipment started right up. Turns out that the fire did not damage the control panel itself which I can hardly believe considering the appearance of that box. All-in-all, great job by Jason and helper. Others are free to disagree, but I highly recommend.

"F: Rating for "FEELING FLEECED" (cont.) I have had fantastic success utilizing contractors recommended by Angie's List. All have been outstanding! When I researched on Angie's List, Covenant Electric had 9 reviews, all reviews were "A" rated. In addition, as their office is only about 3 miles from my home, I decided to give them a try. This is the first time I have ever written a negative review on Angie's List, but felt compelled to do so (Read on...) Based on Angie's List Reviews, I called Covenant Electric to get an estimate for the work needed. When I called, I found out that they charge a flat $49.00 "dispatch fee" to come by and give you an estimate that will be charged no matter what. If you do the work, they add it to the final bill at the end of the job. If you choose not to go forward, they charge you $49.00 for the estimate before leaving. They do make this clear up front that this will be charged before agreeing to come out. I agreed to the dispatch fee for the estimate. The same afternoon I made the phone call, Jason (Master Electrician) came by and quoted to bring electricity to these 2 cameras would cost $622.95 + $49.00 dispatch fee for a total of $671.95. I also showed him a single electrical outlet and our gazebo that wasn't working. Jason quoted a $99.00 ""Diagnostic Fee" to diagnose the problem with that outlet. This brought the total estimate was $770.95. I signed the written estimate for this amount and they showed up the next business day to do the work. They were prompt upon arrival to do the work. The wiring for the cameras went smoothly and without any problems. Upon completion of wiring the cameras, Jason put the main breaker back on, and headed to our backyard to "diagnose" the problem with the gazebo outlet. In no time at all, he came back into the house and said "there was nothing wrong with the plug or wiring, it was just the GFCI button was tripped and 'all I had to do was press the GFCI button.' " My wife gave him our credit card to pay for the bill as I was at work. She forwarded a copy of the receipt to me. Upon review, I noticed I was charged for the full amount of $770.95. I called and spoke to Michael (who appears to run the office) and told him there must be some mistake in the billing. I explained to him that by Jason's own admission, there was nothing wrong with the plug , just the GFCI was tripped, and all I had to do is "press the button" on the GFCI and I was charged the full $99.00. Michael said he would check with Jason and get back with me. Michael got back to me and said, "we have agreed to charge you $99.00 because of the diagnostic fee was agreed to and there was 'some effort' to do that work!" I said, "After spending $700 for other work, you are going to charge me $99.00 to "press a button?" That struck me as being patently unfair, and not a great way to do business. Basically, Michael's response was "Sorry...you agreed to the charge, and you are lucky that Jason only quoted you $99.00 as the diagnostic fee for this should've been $149.00!" For 30 seconds of "work" and 'pushing a button," I was charged the FULL $99.00 fee as quoted. I fault Jason for not removing the fee from the original quote before processing the charge considering I just spent close to $700.00 with them anyhow (including a $49.00 dispatch fee). In addition, they were on site already and it took seconds to 'press the button." Michael was totally unapologetic, and what he basically said was this: "you're lucky this was diagnostic fee was under-quoted by Jason as you should've been charged $149.00!" C'mon now..you're adding insult to injury with that kind of response and could not be considered by any stretch of the imagination as a good customer service response. Michael made it sound like I should've been overjoyed that I paid only $99.00 instead of $149.00 to press the GFCI button! Frankly, I am not feeling overjoyed. Rather, I am feeling "FLEECED!" I hope the $99.00 fee they "fleeced' from me was worth the goodwill lost from a new customer in a large and respected neighborhood. They not only lost single customer, but they lost a customer who is also very quick to refer good contractors who treat the customer fairly. Bottom line is that I will not only NEVER use them again. In addition, when someone in our neighborhood gets on our email loop and asks "does anyone have a recommendation for electrician?," my response will be: "Whatever you do, DO NOT USE COVENANT ELECTRIC unless you are willing to pay for 'work' even if it was not performed." BUYER BEWARE: Beware of the "covenant' you enter into with Covenant Electric because once you sign the estimate, whether actual "work" is performed or not for a specific task on that estimate, YOU WILL PAY FOR IT and YOU WILL BE TALKED TO LIKE YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY ABOUT PAYING IT! Great job guys...wishing you the best of luck with that approach.... Respectfully, Fleeced in Conroe PS: I can anticipate your response (if you respond to this at all) to be something like...."we charge a flat rate for diagnostics" - well to charge $99.00 to push a button after I spent $700 with your company - I guarantee our reviewers will side with me on this one and any justification you try to use to uphold your position will only show your true colors as a company.
Description of Work: "F" Rating for "FEELING FLEECED" I installed 2 Dropcam security cameras (1 on my front patio and 1 on my back patio). Covenant Electric was brought in to run the wire neatly from the cameras into the attic and make the electrical connection (1 story house with easy attic access). In addition, I had an electric outlet that was not working at an outside gazebo (away from the house).

[member name removed], I'm sorry you feel "fleeced." We charge a flat rate fee for diagnostics, no matter how simple the diagnostic may be, as I made you aware of before the work began. The other work performed did not go "smooth" without any problems, and the work actually took an hour longer than anticipated, and yet we still charged you the agreed upon amount. We have waived such fees in the past but because the job was more difficult than anticipated we were in the right to charge you the diagnostic as agreed upon. We will continue to give up front prices and perform quality work for our customers.

Appointment was made for electrical work to be completed on April 18th. Covenant notified us Friday evening that they wouldn't be able to make the appointment, much too late to contract with any one else. Since we are rarely home on week days we were very disappointed with this company. They may do excellent work but we will never know.

Jason is a true professional that cares about his customers and his work. He arrived for the estimate the same day I called him at exactly the time promised, was very attentive to our needs and requests, and explained everything in detail. When he came back to complete the work he was true to the estimate, showed care in how he treated our home and completed everything in a timely fashion. I will certainly use him again for all of my electric needs and highly recommend him to everyone!!!!!!!

They responded immediately to my call and were at my home in a few hours. Very professional. Got the work done the following day and did a good job. Overhead lighting on the porch itself had to be rewired because of existing problem from previous construction. He indicted I might need a new circuit breaker box, but took the cover off and decided that for a house as old as mine it was still in good condition. I appreciated his honesty. I spent around $600.00 and my builder who was here working on another project felt that price was reasonable for all that he did. I was happy with Covenant Electrical.

There was short that was tripping the circuit breaker. It had knocked out power to several plugs and a GFCI plug inside the house. They diagnosed the problem and found what caused the short, corrected it and replaced a 15 amp GFCI Receptacle. They replaced the old metal cover to an outside plug with a new weather proof- while in use Bubble Cover. Very quick response and very professional. Would use them again if I need an electrician.

We found Jason here on Angie's List a few months ago and have used him several times now. He is amazing!!! We had an emergency yesterday and he was here within 15 minutes and on top of things!! We have referred him to several other people and they rave about him as well. In 30 years of home ownership we have never had an electrician that was so prompt, and his prices are more than fair!!!
