I got three bids and this was the middle price of the three. I used this company instead of the cheapest because pictures of previous jobs look like the appearance of the final product is important to them. The work was performed during a period of intermittent rain which was beyond Robert's control so it took longer than initially predicted. The site was prepared in less than 2 days and passed the local permit inspection on the first examination. Several days later the concrete was delivered, the color worked into the surface, the texture stamped and the construction site was cleaned in a matter of a few hours. The next day Robert returned, removed all the forms and cleaned residue from the surface of all the concrete to prepare it for the sealer. The next day the concrete was sealed but rain interfered with the sealer and there were a lot of areas with whitish spots. We waited several days for the weather forecast to be clear and Robert returned, removed all of the sealer and resealed the whole project. The end result was a little darker than I expected but it looks just as good as the original wood deck when it was fresh and stained. I am very happy with the end result because it looks great, will last longer than wood, and mosquitoes will not thrive under it.
Description of Work: Poured 130 square feet of 6 inch thick concrete, stamped it to look like granite and poured 450 square feet of 4 inch concrete and stamped it to look like a wood deck. This was joined flush to an existing pebble finished pool deck to replace an old rotting wooden deck that was a trip hazard because it was elevated above the concrete pool deck.

Finished product looks very bad. I had selected Mother of Pearl as the color for the garage floor. Robert Miller is the owner and operator. He applied the first coat of tinted epoxy and did not add enough color pigment. Mr. Miller applied an additional coat of epoxy and, once again did not add enough color pigment. As a result, the epoxy shows through to the natural concrete floor in many places. I was not able to view the job upon completion, because the top coat was freshly applied when Mr. Miller ask to be paid for the job. Two days later I viewed the results and was very disappointed. Along several edges the epoxy is finished in a shoddy manner. There is epoxy peeling and chipping on another edge. I contacted Mr. Miller on Sunday, June 30, 2013, and expressed my displeasure with the job results. With out viewing the results himself, Mr. Miller refused and continues to refuse to correct the deficiencies in his work. Buyer beware.
Description of Work: Apply epoxy to 750 sqft of garage floor.

Response from Beautiful Concrete of Texas
I have attached the first page of the contract with the member. It clearly states – Buyer is aware and agrees texture and color variations may occur. As far as the color is concerned he had picked a pearl color. Upon asking me my opinion I explained to him that there are literally dozens of companies and thousands of products and colors to choose from in the decorative concrete and concrete coating industry. I could not possible know any more than the homeowner as to what it looks like as a finished product unless I have actually used that color or color combination before. After fulfilling the obligations of the contract, doing the first 2 coats of the pigmented epoxy, it was still transparent in areas. Some garage concrete floors are not finished or leveled very well during concrete construction and have lots of flaws, highs, lows, and just ugly work in general. This will cause color pigments in the epoxy to shirt of migrate into the lower areas as the epoxy finds a self-level, leaving the higher areas more transparent being that the color pearl is so light it showed the natural concrete. I went above and beyond what my contract states, also out of pocket to do an additional coat, as well as overnight delivering the material. This put me at around $2400 dollars in costs for a $3000 dollar contract that I spent 4 days on. After completed the third coat and prior to the top clear coat the floor was much more uniform. I explained to the member that if he would like to coat it again I would be willing to work another day but only if he purchased the product being that each build oat is around 800 dollars in cost. I clearly have in my contracts this disclaimer do to unforeseen expenses with decorative products and chemicals and I cannot afford to be doing jobs for free let alone making only a few hundred dollars a week gross profit. He told me it was much better and it would be just fine to proceed with the top clear coat. I did just that, he paid me my check and we shook hands. He tells me “Don’t be a stranger, thanks for the hard work and good job”. A couple years back I did a job for him. Proving to be the same type of individual he is not, I almost refused to work with him a second time and now fully regret that I did. Anger issues, bi-polar or just a jerk he had a huge attitude on the previous job when he decided to go off on me for apparently no reason, several days later apologizing and explaining to me that he just had a bad day. I should have taken that as a red flag and not have done any more work for him. As far as the edges… I taped up all the edges as I do every job. In page 3 of my proposal it states that I do not move homeowner items or existing flooring etc. The job needs to be ready for me when I arrive. Of course it was not ready with him so my helper and I had to help him move a bunch of things out of the garage so we could keep moving on the floor. When you get tile or wood or any flooring done the base board is trim and any existing other flooring needs to be removed as well. This is so you can get the tile or epoxy or whatever flooring you use under the baseboard and down on the cleaned concrete surface. It was not removed and I did not have in my estimate removal and replacement of base, let alone helping you move your stuff out of the way so I can begin work! I taped the base and during concrete prep and grinding got right up as close as I could sometimes brushing it here and there as you will notice in the picture of his floor that I also have attached. Once again if you want a contractor to remove your existing flooring, base, or relocate you items then obviously there would be separate charges for this. I have an outstanding reputation, referral base and am constantly booked out do to my excellent work and work ethic. Just read the testimonials on my website, they are all real and would be happy to vouch for me anytime. I have one person in 4 years and scores upon scores of jobs trying to slam my work and company. An unappreciative and arrogant jerk that I knew I should not have attempted to work for again. I take pride and work with all of my clients on unforeseen issues that arise, not only decorative concrete but in all construction trades do unforeseen issues arise. We could have come to an agreement or common ground prior to the clear coat! Now I will not work with the member what so ever! (Member name removed), you signed the contract, were home the entire project walked the job and paid the final contract completion amount. Job is over, contract fulfilled, now I am spending my valuable time typing this long drawn out defense letter to the BBB who contacted me just a few weeks ago offering to feature me and promote my company for being a company with zero complaints since the company started. I see you also went to Angie’s List where I do not even participate in there contractor stuff and have still gotten good reviews from some of their clients. That is fine as well as I will be responding to them next. To all the people reading this I am available to explain further if needed and if you would like to check out what my company offers as far as decorative concrete I would be glad to come and sit with you at a time that is convenient. (Member name removed), I know you are reading this as well sir, I will have nothing to do with you now or in the future. You can right review after review and send me email after email, you will not affect my reputation or motivation.

Robert was very professional and well prepared. We interviewed two companies and decided on the second because they have been doing business in the Houston area for many years.

Mr. Miller came to my residence presented his product, measured , then gave me the cost. He didn't need to call back a day later with a price as other contractor did. A few days later I contacted him again to accept the bid and schedule the work. Original appointment to finish about ten days.
Description of Work: Mr. Miller removed the original sidewalk leading from the driveway to the front door. Hauled off old concrete, colored, poured, stamped and sealed the new walkway in a day and one half. His professionalism and patience in answering all of my questions and concerns was most welcomed. He provided literature and advice on the product which was used. A wide range of patterns for stamped concrete was available and I am very pleased with the finished product, it still looks great after a year and one half. I will be selling this property and this feature will help to sell it. I will use Beautiful Concrete at my new residence.

He is great. He was actually fixing mistakes that another contractor had made. He gave us a quick estimate and was out there the next week. He finished the job in two days.
