"I would recommend you look elsewhere if you are looking for a company who will show up on time as agreed. I called Monday 6:15 PM 2/15/2021. Company made an appointment for my house on 2/17/2021 4-6 PM. I was surprised they could be out so fast, so I repeated the date and time and the person said it was correct. I did not write down the name of the person I spoke with, as I did not feel this would be necessary. I was offered two services, we went with the $149 for the yearly cleaning rather than the full inspection as this was not needed. This was more than other services in the area had quoted, but they assured me they had an opening Wednesday. Provided my name, cell number, and address. The employee did not ask further details about my fireplace. I confirmed the time and date with the employee. I was told I would be called the day of the appointment to confirm. The night before we called to confirm the details, it went to voicemail and they never called back. It should be noted that the number (214) 982-8643 appears to be a personal cell number, with the carrier Sprint. Wed 2/17/2021 rolls around, have my husband call in the morning to confirm the time of the appointment due to the weather. The person he spoke to claimed to be the owner, and claimed to have no record of the appointment. Thinking my husband called the wrong number, I didn't think much of it as they said they would call prior to arriving. I called 1:41 PM but my call went to voicemail. Later in the day I called the company as I had no call and we were an hour into the appointment window. I spoke with the owner, the same person my husband spoke with in the morning. He claims he has no record of an appointment, and no record I spoke with anyone on Monday. He claimed he was "trying to be nice" to me despite that at the beginning of the call, I was not upset. He implied several times that perhaps we had called for a quote, or another company. I had him check his records, and he was able to verify we called on Monday but was unwilling to find who I spoke with to confirm what was said. The owner claimed he is booked 2 weeks in advance, which I don't doubt at the moment due to the inclement weather, and yet I both had an appointment given to me for today previously, and the owner said they could accommodate an appointment for us tomorrow. Skeptical that my appointment would somehow remain on the schedule seeing as it vanished previously with no accountability - I declined his offer to give us service the following day. They either overbooked and claimed to give me an appointment they could not make, or their employee did not follow through on making the appointment."

Polar Bear Chimney Sweep was started in 1985 by my father. I grew up helping him by installing fireplaces and stoves. He has since passed the company to me. Our number one priority to this day is still to make sure our customers have a safe fireplace and/or stove to heat their home.

While it’s possible to sweep your own chimney, it’s usually not a good idea for two reasons. First, inexperienced DIYers are more likely to miss areas of the chimney, which still leaves the risk of house fire due to the remaining residue. Second, chimney sweeping seems like a simple process, but it’s highly dangerous. Soot and creosote are both carcinogenic and can cause breathing issues and lung damage. If you don’t take the same safety precautions that professionals do, you could be putting yourself at risk of serious bodily harm.
Some of the most common chimney problems include:
Creosote buildup
Chimney blockage
Deteriorating brickwork or stonework
Cracked chimney top
Damaged flashing
Flue liner damage or deterioration
Damaged chimney cap
If you suspect you have a chimney problem, contact a masonry contractor for an inspection.
The average cost for a professional chimney cleaning is around $250, but prices range from $130 to $400 or more, depending on a few factors. Some things that have an impact on your total include the size of your chimney, the number of chimneys cleaned, and how accessible the chimneys are.
The National Fire Prevention Agency (NFPA) recommends chimney sweeping once per year as a means of avoiding house fires and massive property damage. Over time, creosote and soot build up in your chimney from burning wood and a lack of ventilation. These compounds are both highly flammable, which means a build-up of them inside your chimney puts you at an increased risk of house fire. Chimney sweeping removes any residue and helps reduce the risk of property damage and personal injury from fire.
On average, chimney repairs cost about $455. However, because of the vast range of potential repairs needed, the cost to repair a chimney ranges widely from $160 to $15,000, depending on the type and extent of repairs required.
