We purchased both carpet (about 874 sq ft), tile (about 277 sq ft) (per the A1 Estimator) and installation services from A1. All together, the pricing was competitive with other quotes, however as you will read, in the end we ended up paying way too much. The carpet we ordered had a 3-5 day lead time which was fine, as that was approximately how long it would take to schedule and install the tile. The tile project went well although the A1 estimator (the owner of the company) far exceeded the amount we needed as there was nearly 90 sq ft of tile remaining when the job was over. I understand a certain amount has to be ordered over to account for breakage, etc., but +30%? Even that would be fine if we we only had to pay for tile, but they charged on a per foot installed price, so we ended up paying about $500 more than we should have. To the credit of the installer, the installation went smoothly and looked good. So, tile started on Monday, completed by Thursday, carpet job due to start following Monday. Monday comes, no installer. We call and speak to (Todd), he says the carpet we ordered wad delayed at the mill and it would be another week before it would come in. Our sc schedule aside, I say ok and we wait another week. Next Monday comes, I call early to find out when the installer will show up and Todd tells me the carpet we ordered almost three weeks prior is a special order from the mill and it will take another 21 days for it to show up. After saying it has been almost that amount of time already, he says they never actually placed the order when they found out it it would take so long to come in and 'someone' should have called us. Oddly enough no one called us, but when I called the owner (our sales rep and estimator) several times and left him messages on both his cell and office phones over the preceding two weeks, he refused to call me back - apparently he was "having problems with his girlfriend" and had not been in the office. At this point we just needed to have 'some' carpet installed. Todd gave us two options, a lesser grade carpet for the same amount or a similar carpet for additional charges. Our original order was a 50+oz, 15yr carpet with a 5 year crush warranty. The 'similar' carpet that was offered was a 23oz, 10yr carpet with no crush warranty and not offered in a color even close to what we ordered - your typical home center carpet that sells for about $8/ yard and comes with whole house installation for $99. We were paying $20/yd (which was discounted because of the complete job carpet+tile), so they front load the tile and make the carpet less expensive, but then they don't fulfill the install of the carpet - or they give a lesser quality option - bait and switch. And just so we're clear, the down payment for the entire job is conveniently the cost of the tile job so after several complaints their end offer was just to cancel the carpet piece of the job and call it a wash - not exactly fair. In the end we ended up having another company come out and do the carpet - their estimator said we needed 786 sq ft of carpet and that is what they installed - to cover the same area. A1 padded their estimate to an exceeding degree, pulled a bait and switch, and provided no recourse or recompense. I would not recommend the company, nor would I use their services again.
