We scheduled a service call two days in advance with a 11 a.m.-3 p.m. window. The company promised to call 30 minutes before the technician arrived. That did not happen. My wife called at 2:45 and was told they were "backed up" and there would be a delay of 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Despite that, the technician arrived at about 45 minutes after the scheduled time. He said there had been a misunderstanding and apologised. He was pleasant and cordial. It took less than 60 minutes to clean lint in the vent pipe, remove the dryer's back panel to vacuum out lint using my shop vacuum. He recommended a different style of vent hose, which I immediately went out and bought. When I returned the dryer was pushed back into position without the original hose. Two screws were missing from the back panel of the dryer. Other screws were installed on an angle, cross-threaded. There was lint on the floor around the dryer. The technician was gone. My wife had signed the invoice without looking at it or inspecting the work. We had a coupon for a free service call and $40 off the repair. The job took less than an hour. $240 per hour for this simple work is excessive by any reasonable standard. No parts were used. I called the manager the next day. He raised his voice in anger during our conversation and was defensive. He said the price sounded correct for the work done. I told him I considered the charge excessive andI asked for a partial refund. He promised to discuss this with the technician and call me back. He failed to do that. My answers to the provider's response is in bold below: ?We did communicate with the customer but were still 45 minutes late. ( The company did NOT contact us the day of the repair. We had to call them.) ?Things do happen at previous calls that sometimes take ? Sure, understandable, that is why there is a 4-hour window. They need some flexibility in this line of work. Things happen. I owned a repair business and understand fully.? The customer stated i raised my voice, I never raised my voice in anger to the customer? When we talked late, the owner/manager apologized, saying he had a tragic family event and was not at his best that day. I understand. I was just reporting what happened and certainly accept his apology with no hard feelings. ? the customer started the conversation with threats that he would go to every review site with negative reviews This is untrue. Before I told him I was prepared to report the facts of what happened on Internet review sites, I outlined my I asked for a partial refund. He raised his voice in anger, said he was not about to refund based upon what I told him. At that point I told him I was prepared to file negative Internet reviews everywhere I could. I considered his response to my reasonable request unprofessional and unreasonable. ? I personally called the customer 2 times that ?with no answer. True. Unfortunately, he called my land line, not my cell phone. No one was at home. I was at work until very late that day. His message was unintelligible, so I looked up the number from my caller ID and called him back the next day. The first call was at 9:37am and the 2nd was at 10:07am. To be fair, he actually called THREE times, not two, based upon my caller ID, so he clearly made a good effort to respond. I invite the customer to check his messages on his cell ? we actually had 2 services done at the customer?s home. The first was to completely dismantle the dryer not just dismantle the back panel. My wife said the front panel was also removed for the cleaning while I was picking up the dryer vent hose. I do not believe removing front and back panels panels qualifies as ?complete disassembly.? Clean out the dryer and reinstall his belt. We did not sell him a belt we reinstalled his belt. If the belt was off, the technician took it off. The dryer is less the two years old, and has had light use, and was working fine when the technician arrived. My wife asked him more than once if anything was wrong with the dryer, other than the accumulation of lint. He said no each time.?We charge $150 for this clean out service, ($150 for removing 2 panels requiring removal of 16 screws total.) If this would have taken 2 hours we still charge $150 for this service.?The next service was to his home in the wall dryer vent system. If the vent goes out of the wall behind a dryer just to the outside. We clean it and go down the road. No extra charge. If however the vent runs up into the house through the attic or something similar then we have to use a snake and a brush to accomplish the clean out. This service runs $100. This required 15 minutes maximum. I was present while this was done. The lint removed would not fill a half gallon milk carton. ? The charges that were incurred for this customer were in my opinion very reasonable. $185 plus tax. Not $240 or even the full cost of both repairs. $100 for a snake through the attic and clean out of home vent system and $150 for complete dismantle of dryer that had major lint buildup and reinstall of his belt. He was not charged a service charge and our discount was much more than our $40 part and labor coupon. Done separately thisa $250 job. The company advertised through a coupon a free service call ($40) plus a $40 discount coupon for labor and parts. Had those not been in place, I assume the charge would have been $265 for less than an hour?s work requiring no parts and only simple tools. I?ll leave it to the reader to decide whether $265 an hour is excessive or not.

Response from A1 All City Appliance Repair
A1 all city Appliance appreciates the opportunity to respond to this review. We actually have a much different view of what happened We definitely were 45 minutes late getting to the call. We apologize for this delay. However, we did communicate with the customer but were still 45 minutes late. We did not try to reschedule. Things do happen at previous calls that sometimes take longer in some instances. So again, we apologize. As for the events that occurred during the appointment. I have talked to the tech and also to the customer. The customer stated i raised my voice, I never raised my voice in anger to the customer, we appreciate all customers and business so this is simply not true. What happened is the customer started the conversation with threats that he would go to every review site with negative reviews This continues for quite sometime and while i don't yell i did talk above him to inform him that i needed to talk to the technician before i do anything, but if he was unhappy i would call him back and we could work this out. I personally called the customer 2 times that day (it is on my cell phone) with no answer. The first call was at 9:37am and the 2nd was at 10:07am. I invite the customer to check his messages on his cell. I was also going to call again the next day. If ever a problem i will make it right with the customer period! If no answer on a phone there is really not much i can do. As far as the charges, we actually had 2 services done at the customers home. The first was to completely dismantle the dryer not just dismantle the back panel. Clean out the dryer and reinstall his belt. We did not sell him a belt we reinstalled his belt. The tech said the lint was so bad it could have caused a fire. We charge $150 for this clean out service, if this would have taken 2 hours we still charge $150 for this service. We also reinstalled a belt without trying to sell a new one. The next service was to his home in the wall dryer vent system. If the vent goes out of the wall behind a dryer just to the outside. We clean it and go down the road. No extra charge. If however the vent runs up into the house through the attic or something similar then we have to use a snake and a brush to accomplish the clean out. This service runs $100. This is what we encountered at the customers home. In short 2 different services. Dryer was repaired, vent is now unobstructed. I did ask the tech about the screws being bent or missing. He said he did not notice any missing screws on the back panel. Done separately this a $250 job. I am sorry the customer did not want to work this out with my company. I was very willing to try to make all of this right in his eyes but sometimes I run into situations that cannot be resolved to the customers satisfaction. We haven’t charged this customers CC as of yet. I would like him to call me so we can still make this right. He won’t take our calls..
