During this process, Brent supplied other services that had not been a part of his bid at no cost to me. When I thought I had an irrigation problem, he sent a technician within an hour of my call. I was very concerned as some plants had died--it was a long, hot summer and I was concerned that these plants would not be replaced as he had verbally guaranteed in the original proposal. However, my anxiety was unnecessary as Brent was honorable to his word and these plants were replaced. His crew was always very nice and accommodating. I think Brent really wanted to please his customers and at times would commit to calling or coming by at a certain time, but he would be over extended and would not be able to make those committments at that exact time. However, the tasks at hand would be implemented. This was frustrating to me, but he and I discussed this issue and we recognized this attribute was his attempt to please customers. I believe that Brent values honesty and integrity.

Initially the consult went quite well. He seemed very knowledgeable and a professional. His contacts with us were timely and as he promised. The day before he began work I asked him if he could also do a side flower bed and he worked it in. The first phase was to prep the area. We had already removed the sod from the main flower bed. His job was to re-vamp our sprinkler system to include the enlarged flower beds and put turf with turf sprinklers and flowerbed sprinklers on separate cycles, remove sod from the side flower bed, use a roto-tiller on all flower beds after adding some special compost/soil. About 2 and a half hours after beginning work, him and his ten helpers were finished. I was amazed at how quickly they finished. When I got home the beds looked exactly like I thought they should look. After discussing a few items that seemed to not be the way we had discussed, he agreed to fix them. (moving the planter, putting an expansion joint back the way it was on a sidewalk where he had added a sprinkler). Everything else seemed to be fine. He asked us for payment that day, which he hadn't discussed with me previously. He added up the cost of all of the various parts of his effort that were complete and gave us a price to pay. We immediately gave him a check, because everything seemed to be right. 3 days later one of our Crepe Myrtle trees was starting to die. I went out and was going to build a small berm around the tree so it could get more water on it directly. As I began "poking" around in the flower bed, I came to realize that there had been absolutely nothing tilled. I also discovered that much of the sod that was to be removed had not been removed properly. The total cost he had given me for that labor was $300.00. When I contacted him, he said that he was planning to do the tilling later when he planted the flowers, but he had asked me to pay for everything that was completed to that point. The tilling and the sod removal was on the list of things completed so he could get paid for it. He also charged me additional money to pay for moving a sprinkler head that he had missed in his estimate, yet in his estimate he didn't tell me how many sprinkler heads had to be moved. He offered to come back and fix everything, but I just can't deal with someone who is not honest with me. He did not offer to refund any of the money he had received from us.
