He was excellent. He was really professional, very nice, and friendly. I have recommended him.
Description of Work: We used Steve's Woodworks. We had doors that were sticking, and he was able to level them in the door frame. He also installed some baby gates for us.

Overall, it went well. I had some questions about the sight lines where new baseboard met existing baseboard; Steve came back out and addressed the issue to my satisfaction.

stating they were not interested in doing the job as a 'question of their integrity' was evidently a purpose we should not work together. I understand to a point, however, non-communication implies how the service and job may run in the future and that is not good. Don't have any idea on quality of work, I'm sure it's fine. I will add that my first contact to follow-up with Steve and Darci was 9 days after they had been to the house. My ratings have nothing to do with wether they did work for me or not. Honesty is Honesty. I don't mind them not doing the work. Steve was not informed 2 other builders were in the que.
Description of Work: Darci and Steve were very responsive to my initial request, came to the house a little early which was great. Had a great conversation, took notes, were here for almost 2 hours.....was great. After 7-10 days, I sent a note to them to see if they needed anything from me or when a cost estimate would arrive. Didn't hear anything, so 3 days late, I sent another note questioning if they were still interested and that non-communication made me question their integrity (not relevant to Steve's work but relative to service). Darci, did reply and state an estimate # of hours expected to perform the work yet no material costs had been gathered yet. Shortly following, I received another e-mail

I still am surprised when people give a poor rating when you choose to not do their work. And give inaccurate information to substantiate their rating on top of that. It is true we chose not to do [removed members name] job. We saw her on a Sat. she sent first email of inquiry on Tues - second email questioning our integrity on Thurs. We related to her we may not be the right company to do her work and that she should take other estimates. I believe the rating is unwarranted, and only given because we chose to not do her work. It is not personal - it is just business.

Steve came out to bid my job. Out of 2 other carpenters from Angie's list he was the only who was able to figure out how to do the trim I wanted on my arched door.I will tell you in no uncertain terms that Steve not only is a stand-up guy, but he is thoughtful about how to solve the issues both aesthetically and functionally to meet your needs. He is a true artist. What I think you will love about Steve is that if you ask him to do something, he will tell you why you might not want to do that, then gives you good recommendations on how you can solve the problem.. He is very experienced, dependable, and has excellent vision. He usually got to my house around 9-10 which was kind of nice - the family could get ready and out of his way. The first day I got worried because I was worried he was standing me up. But he was just buying all the stuff for my job. I felt completely at ease with leaving him in my home. He bought the materials and I paid him back for the materials and a flat rate for labor. I paid him after the first few days for the work completed, then at the end for the rest of the work. He said he would come back and install doorknobs once my painting is completed at no cost since I went a little over budget which I thought was very kind. He wasn't feeling good during the second part of my job but still came to work every day. Very dependable, honest, hardworking man. He restored my faith in contractors. I will go with a little one man crew over a big box ANYDAY! Thanks Steve and Darci. I will definitely use you again and have already recommended you to friends and family.

Steve came to my house on the agreed upon date. I had another workman doing floor support in the next room, which was open to the kitchen. Steve felt he couldn't work with the other guy there, so he left. He needed room to spread out the cabinets. His service (wife), called me to say he would return the next day, if the guy was done with the floor. Steve returned the next day and set to work. It took three days to hang the cabinets, and do the work described above. Steve did an excellent job in every way! I would definitely rehire him. There were a few cabinet pieces missing from the factory. He told me to call him when they come in, and he will install them. He also came back to make sure cabinets were perfectly level for the countertop people. He was great! He's very talented, and I look forward to hiring him for other projects!
Description of Work: Steve installed my new kitchen cabinets and built a platform for one of the cabinets. He also installed drawers that were shipped separately because the cabinets were too heavy with them factory installed. He put up molding to finish the cabinets.

I DO NOT recommend Steve or his company. He is NOT reliable and DID NOT SHOW UP to complete the work he said he would. In August 2013, I scheduled the work to be completed in October 2013. On October 21, a week before work was to begin, I received the following email. .. With the holidays things have gotten a little crazy for us. I was hoping to move your project to December 12th. that is a Thursday. Please let me know if that is ok. If something opens up before then I will move you up sooner. I responded that I was not able to reschedule for December 12. I NEVER heard back from Steve and he did not show up to complete the work as originally scheduled. Again, I would look elsewhere. Steve is NOT dependable!

Well, Hard to imagine someone would write this review. Client rescheduled with us first due to being out of town, we set a new date. Due to weather and holiday issues it put us behind. We did notify them by email and did not hear back. I realize they stated they emailed us, but in this line of work many clients do not call back or answer messages - in those cases we just move on to the next one. Looks like this client may have slipped through the cracks so to speak. As you can see from our other reviews this is not a regular occurrence. We are a one man crew - so when there is a rain out or other issue it does affect our scheduling. Not a perfect system, but it works most of the time.

I am very glad I went with Steve's recommendation about the posts. His work was excellent and he kept me informed all along the way. He not only replaced the old posts, he built the new ones with a finished base collar and a top detail that really added to the finished look of my porch. I was a little concerned about the top detail initially, since I worried that birds would build nests there as I have problems with birds nesting under the ceiling area of the front porch. But Steve and I came to a solution that addressed all my concerns and still gave the top detail on the posts a very good look. This required some extra work by Steve, and added a little to the cost. I appreciated that Steve listened to my concerns, and talked with me so we could come to an agreement that turned out to be more than satisfactory. Also, I was really impressed with how thoroughly Steve cleaned up the work area each day. The painting also was done in an excellent fashion, and all work was completed in the timeframe estimated. Steve was friendly and professional, as was the painter Arthur. Steve also presented good ideas for other work that I have been considering. I will definitely call Steve for any future work.
Description of Work: I contacted Steve for estimate on repairing front porch posts and painting entire front porch. The posts had suffered a lot of moisture and water damage and were beginning to rot at bottom. Steve and Darci came out and gave me estimate, which included his recommendation that the posts be replaced. The estimate was a little higher than I expected, but I agreed that the best method was to replace the posts.

Steve was great. He performed the work on time and on budget despite some glitches. He designed and built a new cabinet for a larger TV in our family room. He was able to integrate a new, larger screen TV into an existing built-in media center and fireplace mantel. This required a careful deconstruction of the old cabinet so that media and electrical wiring were preserved and re-installed, It looks great and connected flawlessly. The new installation required a partial tear out of our wood laminate flooring which Steve was able to fix at a very reasonable cost. The result: The floor repair will only be noticeable to me. The new cabinet looks like it was part of the original. He cleaned up the site nicely after each days work. We plan to use him for other work we have planned. Can't wait for my neighbors to see the work this weekend at a World Series watch party!

The boards had to be torn up and replaced. I have 4 columns across the porch and he had to put a board up so that he could remove each column as he went across so the plywood could be removed and replaced. He shored up each section under the porch, removed the bad wood with new wood. This is one of the areas that impressed me caused he didn't have to do that. I would of never know the deterioration of the wood under the porch since I'm never under there. He made sure that it was level across the entire porch and was still at a slant so the water could run off. Steve was very precise in what he was doing to make sure it was correct each step of the way. When I had a question he would stop and explain to me the answer that I was looking for and why. He made sure that the back board on the bottom of the wall had the correct material so the rain or snow would not get back there to cause water damage. When he put back each column he made sure they were screwed into the floor and well as the top of the ceiling so they could not be moved. To my surprise they weren't that secure in the first place. He then caulked each one at the top and well as the bottom so no water can get in them. He made sure that everything was water tight that could be. He did things that I would consider going the extra mile cause he takes pride in what he does and they matter to him and to his customers. It took him 4 days to compete the job, which I would of not thought that it would of taken that long. This is what I call loving what you do and knowing that what you did will be there for a long time to come. What a Super Job he DID. I'm so happy with my new porch. I have several things that need to be done in the future and he will be back to fix these.

After taking a quick look at the door Steve advised that the helper at Home Depot had sold me a door where the bevel was on the wrong side. He also told me that the pre cut hinge slots are available on doors which the home depot helper told me the opposite. He took my email and advised that he would send me information on where to find the door and I could try to reinstall myself. Steve was very helpful and he did not charge me anything for the advise. My recommendation is that Steve is a good persona and he showed integrity and doing the right thing. I am greatful for the advise. Thanks

Dear Homeowners, this person was not looking for someone to assist with work in their home. - We had never been to their home or met except via email. They run a business and were looking for someone to assist in their endeavor. True they were not a priority, yes, we should have followed up in a more timely manner. but since they were getting bids from various contractors to do work for their "Company" I did not see them as the same priority as my homeowner clients that call. Not sure I would deserve an "F" just for not sending a followup email.

This was not an easy project on a 75-year old house with an original door, original wood moldings, brick and cement construction beneath. He was able to customize the entry opening in order to allow a standard size door to be installed. We were able to re-use existing hardware, replace the storm door, and get new trimwork in place with beautiful carpentry work. Steve even utilized the original door trim to replace a missing section in the kitchen. He was on schedule, on time, a pleasure to work with, and did great work! His pricing was fair and honest, and I would highly recommend his work. We will contact him again for future projects!

Steve did an EXCELLENT job with every item on our list! He is truly craftsman with years of experience working with wood. We could not have been any more happy with the quality of his work. Steve replaced the balusters on our stairs, which required him to make adjustments to the handrail and to bore small holes in each of the steps - it looks beautiful! We had several pull-out pantry shelves that had broken rails and Steve nailed support blocks to the interior of the pantry and adjusted the shelves so that they each glide smoothly when pulled in and out. Steve hung a solid wood mirror in a bedroom that required a bit of ingenuity, as he was workiing with a light switch, an airvent, studs, and the top of a dresser; Steve made it work and it looks beautiful! The biggest surprise was his repair to a 4-poster footboard that was broken when we moved the bed into the room. Steve was able to screw, glue, clamp, and sand the broken piece and you would never know the post had once been broken! Steve does remarkable work and we've already scheduled him for the next set of items on our to-do list! job!

I called Steve's Woodworking to get an estimate. Steve and Darci came to my home and provided me with a bid within several days. The bid was reasonable and I felt that they truly understood what I was envisioning for our new mantel. They worked with me on scheduling, as I had an event coming up at my home. Steve arrived on time and finished early. I cannot say enough wonderful things about his work. It is pristine craftmanship. The mantel was built next to some windows that we recently had and quot;custom framedand quot;. You would not believe the differences between Steve's work and another company that did the window framing, I sure wish I would have known Steve a few weeks earlier. His work is noticeably better, even to an untrained eye. Steve left my hearth room in a better condition that is was when he arrived! He is prompt, professional, honest, clean, and his work is absolutely beautiful - I am glad to have met him!

We had other contractors decline the job because they thought it would be too difficult. Steve and Darci scheduled a visit quickly to examine the project. They arrived on time and had appropriate questions and suggestions. They got back to us quickly with a reasonable bid. He was able to start on the project soon and finished the project quickly, cleaning up each evening as he left. His craftmanship is evident. The modified cabinets fit in perfectly with the other cabinets. He was willing to allow me to do the painting to help hold the cost down. We are very pleased with the end result and would certainly hire him again for other projects.

We called Steve's Woodworks and him and Darci paid us a visit later that week. Steve rightly assessed the (somewhat hidden) source of the leak on the outside of the house and shortly thereafter provided us with a time and cost estimate to complete the work (he was spot on, in both cases; actually, he came in a little under on the materials, which is always a plus!). We scheduled the work and Steve exceeded my expectations in every regard! He was pleasant to have at the house and gracious to my family. (The kids' school was closed one of the weekdays he was there and I was worried they'd be a distraction and in his way. He didn't seem to mind them at all and they agreed he was very and quot;nice.and quot;) He fully explained everything he had done (as I was at work most of the time he was there) and even took care of a couple handyman-type things just 'cause he noticed them (he cleaned the gutter adjacent to the leaking window and hung a door). He truly went above and beyond; I'd hire him again in a second and also commend him to any of my friends or family members. My Angie's List membership just paid for itself by leading me to Steve's Woodworks! I can't imagine a better result!
Description of Work: The wooden head right above our big living room window leaked every time it rained. Steve stopped the leak, in the process devising and implementing a way to ensure it never occurs again, and repaired all the damage water had slowly caused over what we determined must've been years! He didn't just put things back the way they were either; he actually reconstructed the sill and surrounding areas better than they'd been originally.

Would definitely use Steve again, was very easy to work with and very polite/punctual. Did a great job of building the TV stand to match existing entertainment center cabinets. We also absolutely love the handrail he built for our stairs. He did an excellent job of coming up with a cool design without us having to give him every single detail. Final price was also in line with (and actually under) the original estimate. Highly recommend!

His quote didn't really break it out between the two jobs as we had the cabinets and the crown moldings. He quoted me $790 for materials and labor and $1650, and the total was $2444. He was very thorough and very courteous. He took the measurements of the whole house for the crown moldings and he had some good suggestions on how to fix our cabinet dilemma for the microwave. He was very professional. He was on time the day that he was going to give us a quote. He didn't make us feel rushed and answered a lot of questions. After he gave me the quote, I had a couple of questions on what was included and he was very responsive in answering my questions in a timely manner. I don't know if we are going to do the work because it is costing a lot more than what we thought it was going to but I would consider using him if we did crown moldings in the house.
Description of Work: I got a quote from Steve's Woodworks for crown moldings in our house and reworking a twenty-one inch cabinet to be able to fix a microwave below the cabinet. We wanted him to come and look at it to see if he could either take six inches out of the cabinet and redo it or find us a cabinet that looks similar to this or find a solution so that we could hang a microwave below the cabinet.
