+ -1 moreMark and his crew did an amazing job in what some can call a record timeframe. We had such a hard time finding a contractor in Austin who was responsive and genuinely interested in helping us. Mark was a godsend! The whole process took a week to finalize and another two weeks to build. Mark was super helpful answering all of our questions. His crew went above and beyond providing suggestions on design improvements we would have never thought of ourselves. The pictures really don't do it justice. We are so happy with our new deck. It was worth every penny!

+ -1 moreIf a company doesn't want the job, they should at least indicate so. If they are not working, they should say so on their site or their voice-mail message. I'm very disappointed here, because on their site, I saw almost exactly what I wanted, and the other good reviews filled me with hope. It's just very, VERY unprofessional to never return phone calls, never answer your phone, and leave potential customers hanging. If they can't return any phone calls, answer phone calls, or indicate any issues on their outgoing voice-mail to explain why... then I have serious doubts about them being able to schedule a project, keep to the schedule, or even finish it. Based on my experience, I can't recommend this company to anybody. [UPDATE] The owner contacted me this week, and explained that they had a computer glitch that caused them to not get their phone messages. He was very polite, very contrite, and very apologetic. While I already have another company on the job, I was impressed by the attempt to make right what went wrong. I'm updating this review to a C, based on the good faith attempt to make good on their failure here.
Description of Work: I have an old deck and hot tub that I want to remove, and replace with a new custom built deck. I called many times, left three messages, and never managed to get anyone on the phone or have any message returned. After three weeks, I gave up.

Description of Work: We had ACD build an 18x32 elevated deck half covered attached to the home. They also poured a 12x12 slap with pergola where we placed a hot tub. First - the deck work is great. Could not ask for a better outcome. The product is well built and should last a long time. ACD subbed out the concrete work, electrical and roof cover. The subs work was very good as well. Again we are very pleased with the product that we got. I would use ACD and the subs again. Our issues relate to contract management. ACD's work effort was the first to be performed with the concrete work at the same time. There was quantity issue with the concrete and ACD asked for a 50% cost overrun on that portion of the concrete. We paid a small portion but refused the majority of the overrun. The second issue followed the partial payment. ACD had performed all but the painting of their work while electrical was outstanding as was the painting. We did not in my opinion receive adequate contract management once the partial payment was made. Electircal was 2 weeks waiting (one of those weeks were our fault). However the sub did a great job once they begun. Painting was not performed by ACD's paint crew. Instead it was performed by what I would describe as their gopher. He would do other duties in the morning and show up at our house early afternoon. Thus only getting in a couple of hours of work before leaving. In addition, he sprayed the surface thus getting overspray on our roof. We were told it would be brushed. We could not get Mark to come to the home to see what was happening. He instead listened to the gopher as to how well the painting was going. The painting should have only taken a couple of days. Instead it was two weeks. In summary, I would do my own GC work in the future and use ACD to build the decks

+ 0 moreMark came out to consult on the materials and design of the deck. He sent me 3-D images of what the deck would look like for my approval. I made some changes and approved with the changes. Oscar and Jose came out on the 30th and worked for three days. They were wonderful craftsmen (they found a solution to getting around a water faucet that was perfect) and also just plain fine workers. The deck was better than I had imagined: a beautifully constructed addition to the house. Boone came out and stained the deck about a week later. He followed up with some advice on how to let the stain dry and what to expect as it dried. Everyone was terrific to work with and the deck is gorgeous.
Description of Work: Designed and built cedar deck on north side of house including railings and two sets of stairs. Also included staining of the the completed deck.

+ -1 moreWe bid a 3-level deck replacement job. Mark showed up on time, was courteous and professional. He brought decking material samples and was very knowledgeable and helpful wrt material selection, pros & cons. Of the 3 bidders Mark did the best job of understanding excatly what we wanted. The renderings ("3D" visualization drawings) were excellent. They were the middle bidder (about 10% high). The bid was very complete and included an engineering report on footings. . They did not provide a 2D dimensional drawing, but the bid was pretty clear about what was to be constructed and how large. On the down side the bid was very slow in coming and the projected time-line was long. They seemed busy with new-construction jobs. I would have no reservations about using them in the future, but we selected a different company based upon the timeline for bids & construction. Had it not been for those issues we might have selected them anyway even though they were not the low bidder.
Description of Work: We asked them to bid on a 3-level deck replacement job.

+ -1 moreThe price was fair. They were very good at what they did. They did repairs as well as some other building and they did an excellent job and we were very pleased with the finished product. The only issue I had was with the communication and I realized when working with two or three different people things can get missed. That was my only frustration, but other than that the people were awesome and good to work with. I would definitely highly recommend them to anybody.

I was expecting to receive a proposal for a pergola and decking but was not contacted after the initial visit. We made a decision to go with another company.

They had good ideas for building the deck, were quick to respond when we had questions, provided detailed pricing, offered a competitive bid, and finished the work sooner than they originally expected. If you want a hassle-free experience and deck that will hold up, I'd definitely recommend these guys.
Description of Work: Austin decks tore down a large old deck and replaced it. They also built stairs and repaired an upper deck. Both decks are high off the ground and are built on a steep slope.

+ -1 moreThey built a double-deck for us. They were able to use my specific criteria on the shape. They were very flexible and were able to taylor the deck (upper and lower are different dimensions) to our needs. They gave us options on the construction and were very detailed as to what they were going to do and why they had to do things a certain way. Boone's guys were very polite, efficient and hard-working. They clearly knew what they were doing. I watched them pain-stakingly pay attention to every detail-they even propped up and recemented my exisitng stairs because it was not level! Highly recommend them. They did excellent work.
Description of Work: They built a double-deck for us. They were able to use my specific criteria on the shape. Trex-composite decking and trex casing for the 4x4. Iron rails- they were able to match my existing rails. Top deck is smaller and more of a rectangle. Bottom deck comes out further, but has one corner cut at an angle ( to run parallel to the playscape border).

+ -1 moreThey were very professional and very friendly with me. I was very happy with how the deck looks and the job they did for me. Something I really liked about them was that if I had any questions or any problems they were very considerate in answering my questions and helping me out by suggesting different ways I could fix any of the problems that I talked to them about. I considered the price to be very fair considering the material they used to make the deck and the labor that was put in the deck installation. Overall, I think the job they did was above average and would gladly hire them again to do any deck repair or replacement.
