Dring Air Conditioning & Heating

Larry returned my call within a few minutes. I explained my situation and asked if he could give me an idea of the cost to replace the 2-ton unit. He told me that he could not give me a price without coming to my house. I told him it was not necessary all I wanted a range (hight/low). He seemed miffed that I would not schedule a visit and answered abruptly, "Well, it could be anything. $6,000-$8,000.." I was astonished and thought he must have misunderstood me. I explained again that I was talking about only a 2-ton unit. He was steadfast in his quote. I said no one else I had talked to had given me a price over $4,300, including installation. He then wanted to know what others told me. I was reeling from the whole experience and told him I felt I would have to put the experience on Angie's List. I feel Larry was upset when he found I was not open to his coming to my house. If I had agreed he could have justified his inflated price. If it had not been for the honest people on Angie's List I had called before, I could have been scammed royally.

The A/C wasn't cooling. I called Dring the next morning. They sent a technician out that afternoon. He spent almost two hours checking out the system. He reported that the circuit board needed to be replaced. He bypassed the bad board in order to let the A/C run, but instructed us to shut off the system at night. He also recommended several other repairs. He said that we would be contacted the next day on pricing. After we made two phone calls the next day, we received the quotes in the late afternoon. The price for the circuit board was $694 and the part would not be in for about 6 days. If we did the other repairs (recommended but not necessary to get the system running as usual) the charge would be a total of $1098. The Dring representative recommended replacing the entire 12-year old system. We contacted another company that replaced the circuit board for $518. The part was available from a local supplier on the same day. We felt that Dring was inflating the repair cost and extending the time until the part was available (making us turn off the A/C for at least 7 nights on upper 90 degree days) in order to sell us a new system.

Went very well. Kept to schedule and to price quoted for service. Price was competitive. Unit is working well.

Excellent! The diagnosis was performed on a Friday night after 5 PM and the technician reported a leak in the cooling coil inside the attic unit. There was no refrigerant in the system, so he recharged the system and gave us an estimate on replacing the coil. I am very picky about service and asked a lot of questions which the technician was able to answer or get from the office immediately. The part had to be ordered and service scheduled which we did for today. Luckily the charge held through today and we didn't have to go with out AC. The technicians arrived a few minutes early and started right away after putting down tarps and ensuring the area was accessible. They explained what they were doing, asked some questions about our system, and where the condenser unit was. They took about 5 hours to complete the work, and walked me through everything that was replaced when they were done. The installation work was very professional, the unit looks factory new, and the clean up was perfect, they even moved back a piece of furniture I had moved to get access to the attic. It is great to have a company respond quickly to a service call, clearly explain what is needed, the cost and then execute exactly as agreed! The unit works fantastic and I highly recommend Dring if you have A/C or heating repair needs.

The gentleman that visited our residence was friendly, but he was not very communicative and spent almost no time looking over our system. It seemed clear that he wasn't interested. We were disappointed to have our time wasted.

I got proposals from 4 companies. Dring's was the lowest. The man who came to my house looked carefully at my existing AC/Heating system, made tests and measurements, and told me what I needed -- and what I did not need. He said there was no need to change the furnace, which I had had installed by another company six years before. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," he quoted the old saying. Two other men did the actual installation, and the the same man, who had made the proposal, a project manager, came to check it out carefully before giving me the invoice. The whole job was done impeccably and promptly, and it has woked fine since then.

Wow! I didn't even get past the receptionist the first time I called. I have a two story condo in University Park, with the air conditioning unit on the roof. She put me on hold and spoke with someone, then she got back on the phone with me, and told me "no we can not do that"? No expanation, no would you like to talk to the service manager etc. Not wanting to give them an "F" for this I called back and she reluctantly handed me over to the service manager on call. He was fine, but our call ended with "you better try someone else" . OK>..well I did. Dring did not seem to want my business, but so far so good with another company I called.

We just started using them. We have the service contract with them and it seemed to be in line with the other people. As far as the equipment, I didn't shop around for it so I don't know if it was a good price or not. It's too early for me to know what the quality of their work is like. I really don't know whether somebody is good or bad until I see them a couple of times.

I could not keep my furnace lit, so I called them to come diagnose the problem. They replaced the furnace quickly, promptly, and efficiently. I would consider using them again in the future.

I called and left a message on their after hours line. I got a call back about an hour later and explained the problem to the tech. He explained that an after-hours service call would be $135 instead of the normal $90. I agreed to this. He said he'd be about an hour; he arrived 45 mins later. When the tech arrived, he went up in the attic and identified the issue to be a loose electrical connection. He fixed the connection and got the blower working. It took him less than 10 minutes to diagnose and repair the problem (and I felt stupid because that's something I could easily have done myself). After that, he checked the compressor unit and recharged my refrigerant, which was slightly low; he didn't charge me for this. All in all, I was very impressed with the service until I got the bill. In our discussions on the phone, I had understood that the fee for the service call would include any minor repairs and that I would just have to pay for any parts. However, when the tech gave me the bill, it included the $135 charge for the service call ("Diagnostics") and a $96 dollar charge for "Repaired wiring." I understand that it was after normal hours and that I was being charged overtime rates, but I thought that $96 for a 5-10-minute quick-fix was bit excessive. That said, there was an upside: he said that he felt bad about the bill and so he checked the compressor unit and recharged the refrigerant for me. He also gave me several pointers about how to keep the system running more efficiently and how to identify when it needed servicing. While I greatly appreciated this extra help, I was still surprised by the extra $96 charge, especially for something that was such a simple fix. As I said, he didn't have to do the extra work of charging the coolant - it is normally done as part of a $110 "spring tuneup" and there normally would have been an extra charge for that service, or at least for the refrigerant (checking the compressor is, I believe, part of the $135 after-hours diagnostic fee). Based on that, I'm not unhappy with the net result; I just feel that the overall cost was significantly higher than what I thought had been discussed over the phone. For quality, responsiveness, punctuality, and professionalism, I don't think that the "A" rating is high enough; I wish there were an A+ rating I could give them. I was just disappointed in the final price. I would highly recommend Dring's services. I will almost definitely use this company again, but will definitely put in a little more effort in up-front discussions about what to expect in charges.

Called Dring at 1 pm and was given a 3 to 6 pm time slot the same day. I was told I would receive a call prior to the tech coming but that didnt happen. Tech arrived at about 4pm so was right on time. They were professional and well dressed. They found the problem quickly and fixed it with no problem. They also offered to check the coolant without my asking and it was indeed low. I was happy with the service and plan to purchase a service contract with them.

Other than being about 1 hour late for a 1-3 window, the experience was great. I would use them again.

I called at 9:30 p.m. on a Friday night -- my air conditioning was blowing but not cooling. Alex arrived by 11:30, and was very professional. He quickly identified the problem, and took care of it. I plan to call Dring again for my upcoming furnace repair.

Our 3rd floor air con ceased functioning. A technician came out, and diagnosed the problem. The main coil was replaced 3 days later, and we were given a 5 year warranty. Everything has been fine since.

I found them to be very favorable. I would recommend them. They are prompt and punctual with their appointments. Their prices are competitive. The quality of their work is very good.

Dring has always been very good about pointing out things that might need to be repaired without doing any unnecessary work. They are reasonably prompt for my appointments. They do a very good job of keeping things clean. The last time they were out for the maintenance they added more Puron than normal and warned me that there might be a leak in the system. Once we found out there was a leak they came back out to clean the air coils, and re-attached a pipe so that it was secure. They did a very thorough job. I have been pleased with their service.

They came on time and what they charged was less than expected. We will probably use them to install a new unit next fall. Rick was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions.

I made an appointment to meet the Dring rep at our house for our annual spring service on our 2 air conditioners. Jim showed up 5 minutes late and promptly apologized for having been caught in traffic. He was VERY thorough. For example, when I went outside to check on him, he had the outer sheet metal and fans off both the external units. He said he always does it that way so he can get the coils really clean. In 20 years of monitoring air conditioning repairs, I have NEVER seen such a thorough cleaning. Later, he rang the doorbell, said he had muddy feet, and asked me to start both units so he could check them. Total service was about 2 hours. I signed up for the annual contract on both units for the 2nd year.

Most of their repair men are great. They were a little late, but considering the season had scheduled an appointment faster than I had expected. Final bill was less than his initial estimate. Overall, very satisfied.

The workmanship was very high. They are very honest and up front. They tell me my options and give me realistic solutions, instead of spending $10,000 to replace the whole system. They were very responsive. I can call after 5 or on weekends with the service agreement and they will return my calls and come out. They are definitely very responsive and knowledgeable. Everyone has been very good.

The first day the technician was over an hour late but once there worked politely and efficiently. The next 2 times the techs were on time or early. They first came out for a unit check because one unit was putting out hot air. They found that there as no freon so they filled it under warranty. The next day they did a leak check and found that the entire condensor unit was leaking. It was a 1991 vintage unit. on the third day they were able to replace the unit and gave a $100 discount for being on Angie's list.

Overall they have done a good job. We haven't had any problems with them. We will continue to use them in the future.

We've been using this company for 3 years. They're very thorough in their work and we've always had positive experiences with them. Their prices are very reasonable for how much work they do and the workers always arrive when they say they will. They're professional and really a joy to work with.

We received a quote and an explanation of the cost difference between just having the duct work done and the cost of having the AC system replaced (the original one was not installed correctly and was inefficient). The technicians arrived on time and got right to work. They protected all of the carpeting with cloths and wore booties while in the house. One technician worked in the attic while the other technician removed the outside unit. They worked quickly and answered all of my questions as they did the work. They addressed all of my concerns and explained what had changed, why it had to be changed, and how to operate everything. They were polite and professional. They included sealing the existing duct work at no extra cost. It took them two days to do the work. For the fist time since owning our home, our bedroom actually receives adequate air conditioning.
