Calahan is the one of the most professional service organizations that I have worked with recently. I look for several things when hiring a contractor: product knowledge, responsiveness, professionalism, trustworthiness, ethics and fairness (regarding price). I would rate Calahan an 11 out of 10 on each of these points. I will use him again and I strongly recommend this company for anyone who needs HVAC equipment serviced at their home or business.
Description of Work: I contracted with Calahan Construction to replace a compressor on my 5 Ton HVAC system.

The owner, Mr. Callahan, gave us a prompt inspection of our ac and heating unit. Because the unit had been giving us problems for years needing costly repair and caused smoke to enter the house with most recent problem, we opted for total replacement. They scheduled replacement the next day and completed the work in one day. Just as they were finishing up the assistant working with Mr. Callahan had an unfortunate misstep resulting in a hole in the ceiling in our bathroom. Mr. Callahan sent the assistant back the next day to repair the hole. He worked to make the repair with patience and perfection treating the repair as if it was his own house and when he was finished we couldn't tell there had ever been any damage. The area damaged was very difficult to repair, but he worked patiently attending to every detail. Both men were prompt, courteous and friendly and treated the job as if they were working on their own home. An excellent job was done and we will definitely use them again when we need work that that they do. Thank you Angie's list for finding us such a professional caring provider to do our work!

Contacted Stacey from "Calahan Construction and Air" on Friday May 1, 2015. Stacey was completing a job in the next city from me , so he said he could stop by on his way home that day. Stacey arrived later that afternoon and gave me a estimate for the project that was very reasonable compared to the other two offers I had already received. I accept his bid and agreed to getting them installed on Tuesday May 5, 2015. Stacey arrived on time, actually he arrived about an hour earlier then he said ready to get an early start. Stacey and his crew did a very professional job. They first put down floor covers from my front door all the way up my stairs and top floor to the attic. These were to protect my carpeting and tile floors from the old uninstalled metal from old units and any possible damage from new units being brought in from outside. I hardly noticed them working all day unistalling and installing new units. Stacey had some of his crew working inside on furnaces and air handlers, while other worked on the ouside with the compressors. Although they worked very hard and almost 12 hours, they were unable to finish all 3 units. They were able to complete two units so by the end of the first day we had cool air upstairs and in the master suite. Stacey return the next morning to complete the third unit. By the afternoon the third unit was complete and working well. Stacy made sure his crew did a thorough clean up inside and outside of my house. He also took videos of all the units inside and out so I could have a copy of the installations. Stacey took the time after the second long day to sit down with me and go over all the warrantees and how to register them. I would definately recommend him to my friends. Thanks Stacey for a great professional job. I know I will use you in the future.

I called 4 different provides for this job. ?All were highly rated on Angie's List. ?Stacey Calahan was my first appointment. ?After inspecting my home and attic he sat down and wrote up a quote for me and we discussed all that was going to be needed and my options. ?All the other companies took 2-3 days to provide the quote. ?After we decided on Stacey he came by the house and made notes of what he would need. ?The day the crew came to get started they were prompt.. even early. ?They took time to greet us.They worked hard all day, I hardly noticed them stopping for lunch. ?They were able to get everything up and running that day so that I was not without heat. ?The next day they returned and removed all the old duct work from underneath the house and finished sealing up old vents in the walls. ?They cleaned up as they went and made sure everything was cleaned up at the end of the day. We were impressed with the fact that Stacey Calahan was there making sure it was all done right. ? I would definitely contacted him for any future renovations I might decide to do.
Description of Work: I had Calahan Construction install new furnace and AC unit. I also had all the duct work removed from underneath my home and moved to the attic. He also installed a new faucet for me in my kitchen.

I had initially just started with getting estimates for replacing the HVAC system in my 70-year-old house. However, as I was reading reviews here on Angie's List, I happened to see one where a gentleman described a very similar situation where he needed his HVAC system replaced and wanted some remodeling done on his bathroom. His review was for Calahan Construction, and gave them a very good recommendation. I called Stacy Calahan and he came out to give me an estimate. I showed him the bathroom and water heater and explained what needed to be done. After getting a description of what work I needed/wanted done, he gave me an estimate that included the HVAC replacement with a new, 16 SEER Rheem system and agreed to match a price I had gotten from one of the other two air conditioning companies, so I hired Calahan Construction to do all the work that needed to be done regarding the three elements of the job. All of the workmen were very polite and professional. Since this house is so old, they ran into numerous things that were unexpected, to say the least. The walls in the house are plaster and, in the bathroom, there was a layer of plaster, then drywall, then 4" square tile going up to about 5 feet on all of the walls and the same layering going up to about 7 feet in the tub enclosure. They removed the walls all the way down to the original, hardwood studs, removed the commode and the lavatory, which was also original to the house. The closet in which the water heater was located (originally a pantry we discovered) had to be removed: walls, ceiling and floor -- after they drained the water heater and removed it. This allowed access to the plumbing behind the bathtub which was impossible to work on because the small access door was behind the water heater! Most of the water pipes for both the bathtub and water heater, and drain pipes, had to be replaced before they could rebuild the walls and floor to install a new water heater. Stacy Calahan actually had to crawl under the house twice to gain access to some of the plumbing to make repairs and replace some of the pipes. After everything was taken out, they replaced the floor, walls and ceiling, and installed sheetrock, which they then textured and painted before bringing in the new water heater. The only things left in the bathroom were the tub, the small linen closet and the ceiling. Stacy had a beautiful new commode ready to install and together we picked out a vanity and tiles for the floor and walls to match the paint colors I had selected (dark and light sage). At the same time, we picked out all the faucets, towel racks, assist bars, etc., in a satin nickel finish. I have a brand new bathroom! It is beautiful, with a non-slip tile floor that looks like stone, the walls are a lovely color that changes from tan to misty sage depending on the light. I now have an exhaust fan with a light in the ceiling and a light bar above a wonderful, large mirror over the vanity. There had never been an electrical outlet in the bathroom because 70 years ago there were no curling irons and blow dryers to use. All the bathroom hardware matches beautifully and there is a nice, 4" decorative stripe of ceramic glass in various square and rectangular shapes that ties the colors together. The craftsmen at Calahan Construction took great care when setting the tile to make sure all the tiles were precise distances apart whether on the floor or walls. They put new drywall up and textured it to match the 70-year-old plaster that remained above where the tile had been, then painted it with great care to avoid getting paint on any other surfaces. They had also put down heavy canvas from my front door to the bathroom, HVAC, and water heater which were conveniently right next to each other, to avoid tracking mud, texture and paint onto my floors. The foundation people are here right now and after they make some minor adjustments (thank goodness!), I will have Calahan come back and remove a bar between a very small kitchen (circa 1946) and a back room that was added sometime in the 1960s, then remove the mismatched flooring from a square hallway through the kitchen and the back room, build in extra counters and cabinets, after installing new sheetrock, texture and paint throughout the three rooms. Stacy has already checked the rooms and floors and is looking for appropriate flooring that can be used to tie the areas together. I will definitely use Calahan Construction to do any other work that needs to be done to update my home, because I can be sure they will do an excellent job at a fair price, regardless of how unconventional the old-hippie owner is!
Description of Work: I needed: 1) My HVAC replaced -- the HVAC had been nursed along for the past 5 years but had finally run out of freon and was 20+ years old (not energy efficient by any stretch of the imagination). 2) Water heater replaced, along with the entire closet and most of the pipes going to it since the water heater died a very ugly, loud death -- after leaking very slowly and invisibly until it rotted the wood floor out from under the water heater. 3) Bathroom replaced -- yes, the entire bathroom from the tile down to the floor and the floor itself, the commode and the lavatory. We had not had cold water in the lavatory in the bathroom for a number of years since a plumber cut a hole in the floor of the bathroom to fix a leak under the house. Once he was down there, he said it would cost an additional $300 for him to replace the pipe so we would have cold water, otherwise he would just cap it off. I did not have the money, so we just had no cold water there.

Although Stacey was out of town, Thanksgiving Day, he did call me as soon as he returned. He set a date and his staff came out and determined that the blower on the furnace was no longer working. His workers called him first and then he phoned me to let me know how much it would cost to replace the blower. He give me a price which I thought was reasonable and the work was done efficiently.

I requested bids from four different companies. As everyone told me, we had a very large job ? replacing our tired 20+ year old single unit (HVAC, furnace, and coil) with two new units (one for each floor) and moving all the equipment into an attic space. Our old system never cooled adequately and had several hot and cold spots. Stacey, the owner, answered my phone call personally. He arrived promptly at the specified time. He listened to us carefully and spent a great deal of time in the house. In all, he spent nearly 2 hours that day. When he left, he gave us a detailed estimate and explained it thoroughly. We got 3 more bids, all of which came in significantly higher and offered much less. Some of the other companies wanted us to hire a plumber or electrician separately or to level the ground outside the house for the new concrete pad before they could begin work. Stacey?s bid was comprehensive. After meeting with other companies, I had several additional questions for Stacey. I had no trouble reaching him and he answered my questions easily. From beginning to end, I had confidence that he knew what he was doing and could handle our big project. The job took 3 days, which was the amount of time quoted by other companies as well. The entire crew was professional and responsive to our needs throughout. They arrived when they said they would and worked diligently, 12+ hours per day. They were organized and detail-oriented. The new system works amazingly well and there aren?t any hot spots. We notice the difference every time we come home. We are extremely satisfied with their work and would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Replace 20+ year old single AC and heat with two new separate systems (HVAC, coils, furnaces -one for each story), create stairway access for attic crawlspace and place all new equipment there, add an extra vent downstairs.

After speaking with and receiving bids from several contractors, I selected Calahan Construction & Air to complete our work. Stacy is very knowledgeable about his craft and is patient enough to discuss the details of the work and answer all of your questions. His prices are very fair-- much more so than several of the big name companies out there. The install was punctual and of high quality. I was home during the process and I could hear Stacy holding his team to rigorous standards. This original work was performed several months ago. When a line recently backed up after we had insulation blown in the attic (some got into the drain line), Stacy quickly came out to solve the problem. Select Calahan Construction & Air if you want to work with a team whose owner who is accountable, actively involved in the work, and will ensure you're fully satisfied.

Calahan Construction was very professional from the start. The owner Stacey Calahan, came out to give me an estimate of the job, he was on time, professional, listened to my ideas, and offer his, which made me very comfortable working with him. His estimate of the job was very close to the final contract, and all changes on the job was readjusted promptly, and a copy of the changes was given to me. I had approximately three other estimates for the job some came in at $23,000.00 - $15,000.00 without any involvement from me-those contractors subcontract out everything; tile, shower doors, painting, cabinets, and exclusive vanity company etc. I had a budget, and to keep the price within that budget Calahan gave me allowances for my tile, vanities, and fixtures of my choice however, if I went over that amount then the contract would be adjusted. The work that was not part of the contract was the painting, mirrors, and light fixtures, however they hung the mirrors, and installed the light fixtures. All the work is under a one year warranty so the company stand behind their work! Unlike most companies, Stacey Calahan, the owner, was very involved with my project, and conducted most of the work with his team. He explained each day what his team was going to do the next day, and texted me each morning when his team was on the way to my house. One Note: They were very neat laying out large painters drapes throughout the house, and the clean-up each day was superb!!! With all that being said, I am very pleased with the work, and love my bathroom!! I am planning on another project in the future for Calahan Construction. I have provided before and after pictures of the work constructed. [Member name removed]
Description of Work: Bathroom remodel (Replaced shower with new tile, made two niches for shower accessories, built up the shower floor to install corresponding tile to replace a shower pan, replaced shower fixtures, and framed shower doors with frameless shower door. They torn out both vanities including sinks and fixtures, and replaced them with new ones. Replaced tile completely around the tub area, created a niche on the wall over tub, and installed new tub fixtures to match the vanity fixtures. Also, hand craved and stained oak towel rack, and two medicine cabinets all three recessed in the wall.

Service guy was prompt and very nice. We agreed on a price and he returned that afternoon to complete the repair. When he came back the motor was not the same as the one that came out. He said that the motor was not a Train repair part as previously agreed to but that it was an equivalent but not from Train and that the Trane part would cost 280 vs the current part at 80. I asked that he share the savings on the part with me so the price would be aprox. 100 dollars cheaper. He agreed. I spoke with him while he did the exchange. He seemed to be very careful to put the screws that came out of the unit in his tool box to be able to return them later. Unfortunately when he went to put the unit back together he could only find about half of the original screws. So he put in self taping steel screws instead, about 8 of them. The original screws are coated so they don't rust as easily. I was disapointed that he didn't replace the coated screws. Second, the new motor was an 1150 RPM motor where the original was an 825 RPM motor.. so approximately 40% faster speed. Since that original fan was balanced for 850 the unit hummed and buzzed loudly. To fix this the tech put in more self taping screws (steel again) to quiet the unit. When we came to the invoice we were back to the original price not the price agreed to. I had to argue with his manager quite vigoursly to get back to the original agreed upon price. The manager threatened to remove the motor and walk away rather than honor the agreed to price. Altogether not a good experience.
Description of Work: checked out outside unit. Found that fan motor to be inoperative. Agreed to repair for $480.

The first time we went out we fixed a blown transformer. Second, time we went was for a different reason. We came out the same day he called. It was a bad variable speed blower motor. Replaced it under his manufacturer warranty. Just charge him labor. Got him up and running. All the same day. We gave him the price before we ever started. He was very fine with it then until we were finished. Then, he wanted us to lower our price. Also, the $500 was for two calls not one.

Good for the most part. Quote was better than other competitors. Mr. Calahan took several of my calls prior to me buying my condenser and gave me advice about my purchase. I bought a used condenser from Home Discount Warehouse on Empire Cental in Dallas. He picked up the condenser at a reasonable price and delivered it to my home. I wanted to be their when they picked up the condenser. I hope I didn't offend Mr. Calahan. He told me when I asked what time they would do the pickup (I was conserned about potential damage) that I could just pick it up myself. They did what appeared to be a good job of delivering the unit without any apparent damage. As I mentioned the price was good! The only issued that I had is I felt like he was bothered by me requesting to be there when they did the pickup. He went on to say he could not tell me when they would pick it up because he did not know their schedule. So I just told him ok that's fine you go ahead a pick it up.

When one is considering work that involves a contractor, especially one with whom you have no previous experience, it is like investing a large sum of money in the international stock market. You are really taking a big chance, and there is a lot at risk. After hearing the tales of woe from friends about their air conditioning contractors, I turned to Angie's List. After reading all of the reviews for the "A" rated companies, I contacted Calahan Construction and Air. The reviews for this company seemed to paint a picture of honest, dependable service at a fair and reasonable cost. When I contacted the company, Stacey personally answered the phone. I discussed my issues with him; he agreed to come by and give me a quote for the work. When he gave me the quote, he indicated that the price was all inclusive with no hidden charges or surprises. On the scheduled appointment day, I received a call advising me that they were on the way. Stacey's team of Cecil, Fred, Clarence, and Desmond arrived on time. The team placed drop cloths to protect the wood and marble floors. They also did a good job of cleaning up after their work. During the installation, there were some logistical decisions that needed to be made. The installers were very clear about the options and delegated the final decision to me. They were very flexible and accommodating in working through these decisions. After the installation was complete, the price was as quoted - no surprises!!! The team was polite, friendly, respectful, and professional. The reviews were correct - this company does provide honest, dependable service at a fair and reasonable cost! I will definitely recommend Calahan Construction and Air to others without any reservation.
