Very positive experience. My husband and I originally went to Andrew's plant to inquire about our needs and were met by a lovely receptionist. When the receptionist couldn't answer certain specific questions she called on Simon Telfer. Simon came right out and answered all of our questions. Then Simon gave us a tour of the operation right then and there. My husband and I were immediately impressed by the work rooms and workers...all friendly, but especially by Simon. I asked would he be the one picking up the goods and giving us the bid, and he said he would, and did. Delivery as well. Professional people and operation.
Description of Work: ~Carefully picked up at a storage unit (at the precise time required) several antique pieces of furniture owned by myself and my children. ~Gave their estimate of cost by piece on the spot. ~ Completely repaired, cleaned and treated ( to like new) very old, mildewed and dusty Illinois antiques in the time they indicated it should take. ~Scheduled delivery to my children's home and carefully carried each item to the precise place the owners wanted them in their home. ~ Tried to schedule a convenient time with me to deliver my items, but due to a serious illness in my family + a wedding in a few days agreed to house my things until after Christmas. ~ After Christmas I was the only care giver for a newly diagnosed family member receiving daily treatments for Cancer. Andrew's Refinishing kept my things until late February as I couldn't arrange to meet them. I will always be grateful for this kindness...above and beyond our business relationship.

uned Picked up the table and it was as I wanted, I thought. The carpentry and glass work was right on and that had been subbed out. I didn't double check he finish unfortunately, but the "match" was not good, I thought the light was wrong, etc. as refinishing was he shops trade. When I hauled it to our vacation home and set it up it was obvious the finish had never been touched. Each time we went for a stay it grated on me. But I missed the chance to reject it in he shop. I just returned from another say and can't contain myself. It thy had told me they couldn't do it for some good reason and reduced the price to reflect work not done I would have had to be OK with that. For Angie's list to require information aout shop work location is nuts. Do they ask when the dentist's office was built?
Description of Work: We have a vacation home out-of-state. I bought a dining room table to match a bedroom suite and wanted it cut down into a writing desk with a drawer, etc. I gave detailed instructions and even had to convince he salesperson that h ay I wanted a glass top cut was possible. I brought back a desser drawer so the desk could be refinished to match. The quoted price included all the work as agreed. The finish match was just reducing the "redness" of the table finish.

I am very sorry that you are unhappy with your piece. We stand behind all of our work and if there was a problem, we would have been happy to correct it. We can't correct something if we don't hear your concerns our issues at the time the work was done. I understand that this piece is out of state now but if you would like to contact me personally, I will be happy to review our files and discuss any and all options to satisfy you! Please note that this issue was not brought to our attention at the time of the work in JAN. 2009

I took some pictures and measurements and and e-mailed Andrew's after finding them here on Angie's List. They got right back to me with the quote of $100 and to bring it in whenever I had the time. When I brought the chair in Nancy was very friendly and knowledgeable, however the gentleman that would do the work was not there so she could not give me an estimate of how long other than a few weeks. I told her that if it would take more time or cost more than the quote to call before the work was done. 3 weeks later I got a call that the Chair was done and ready to pick up. I got there to pick it up and was very impressed with how good the chair looked, not only was there the new cane seat insert but they had cleaned up the chair as well. I will use them again when needed.
Description of Work: We received a Family Rocking chair that needed a new cane seat put in.

Since the Andrew's Refinishing location was only about 5 miles from our home, we elected to visit their location so we could check it out as well as obtain a quote. We took the dimensions of the table and chairs as well as a couple of photographs of them along with us. Nancy, an Interior Designer, greeted us as soon as we entered the building and she was great to work with. She initially showed us around the building and some examples of work that was completed and also some which was in progress. We were most pleased with the quality of their work. Nancy then gave us a quote for doing our work. We already had an estimate in mind and her estimate was within our range so we scheduled the work. We were given an estimate of 3 - 4 weeks to complete the work, which was satisfactory for us. Arrangements were made for them to pick up the table and chairs. Our table and chairs were picked up promptly on the date and time they had given to us. The employees were very courteous and careful when loading our furniture into their truck. We were called exactly four weeks after our furniture was initially picked up. They told us our furniture was ready and we scheduled the delivery for approximately two hours later. They arrived on time and once again were extremely careful when unloading our furniture. We were VERY pleased with the quality of the refinishing work. The color matched that of our china cabinet and server perfectly. We were amazed at how great the 42 year old table and chairs looked. The price shown includes pick-up, delivery, and all sales taxes.
Description of Work: We had a dining room table with an extra leaf and six chairs which needed complete refinishing. They were purchased in 1970 and had served us over 42 years, through three children, and LOTS of spills over the years. We had purchased a matching china cabinet and server when we bought the dining room table and chairs. Since the table and chairs were still in excellent condition other than the need for refinishing and the china cabinet and server were in excellent condition, we elected to have the table and chairs refinished rather than purchasing an entire new dining room set which would then need to include the china cabinet and server as well.

Instead of replacing the kitchen cabinetry, they refinished it inside and out. They took off all the doors and drawers took them to the place where they do the work. The whole process took about two weeks. In addition to that. They sealed off the kitchen and painted the interior of all of the cabinets. It is a large kitchen with 32 cabinets and 21 drawers. Just very friendly people and very responsive. Their pricing policy is that they come out, inspect your home, whatever you want done, give you a price up front. If you agree to that price, they ask for half up front and then they do not ask for the other half until you are completely satisfied and they are completely done.
Description of Work: They completely remodeled our kitchen.

The staff, particularly Kimberly, could not have been nicer or more apologetic. They worked hard to make it right. Based on the Angie's List reviews, a phone conversation and the price quoted over the phone, I elected to drive up north to drop off the chairs. When I arrived, I realized I had mis-measured the seats - the price would now be double what I was quoted over the phone. While frustrating and more expensive than another price I had already been quoted, I elected to leave the seats with them because I was (1) already there and (2) the staff was very professional. A few days later I received a call stating the work would cost twice again what I had been quoted in the store (first $90, then roughly $190 per seat and finally nearly $380 per seat). After some probing, I was told that the gentleman that does this work for them is aging and that he just is not keen on doing the work - thus the absurd price. Reverting back to the staff, they did attempt to provide me with a rush seats taken from another set of chairs. I drove up again to take a look - it was not a close match, but it was a thoughtful gesture. I ended up taking my business to Elite Furniture ? to my surprise, the price was and has remained the same as was quoted over the phone. Overall, the experience with Andrew's warrants an F. Having a few seats re-strung should not require three different quotes or the hassle. However, given the other statements on Angie's List and the staff, I am sure my experience was a one-off. Frankly, it happens to all of us. At any rate, I felt it important to let you know just in case you experience the same thing. If this becomes a trend, it might be time to start downgrading their performance.

Currently in court. Job still incomplete. Living with cabinetry staining incomplete and not matching.
Description of Work: We are being sued by this contractor. The work was not completed and work done was extremely poor. We hired Andrew's Refinishing and they sub the work out without letting us know it was a sub. Andrew refused to review the work that was poor and did the last payment 50% charge on our credit card. We disputed it requesting that they complete the work and meet with us to review the problems. Andrew stated'" I am not coming back out - talk to the sub". The sub said I need more money. We hired Andrew Refinishing not the sub at a written proposal. We believe his employees and subs requesting more money is Andrew's responsibility. Credit card company was in favor of our situation. Andrew did not respond to credit card company nor come to review the final work.Months later he sues us. It is currently in court. We hired an attorney and Andrew did too! It is a nightmare. I do not recommend him and he has several individuals that know of his doings and say he should be or soon will be out of business if he keeps this up. For us, I can only go by our experience, however, I am confident the same recommendations from other sources they are headed to that direction. If not, I worry about other customers. Confidential, until resolved legally. Thank you. Must not be electrically transferred or published at this time. Good luck with your listings. FYI - additionally; some areas were not stained, were painted. Other areas not done, other areas they tested our raw wood cabinet dishwasher panels for color and after staining it you could see the test marks. Horrific! The approximate date of service is in my file - added in 2-1-12 to send the form. At a later date after the court decision. I can provide this date.

His price was way too high, so I did not hire him.
Description of Work: I'm sure this Company is very good, if you can afford him! I sent him a couple pictures of my coffee table which I explained to him, needs only the top of the table refinished. He called the next day with a price of $500. I don't think we paid much more than that when we bought it!

Andrew's Refinshing did a great job refinshing our kitchen cabinets. Raymond was in charge of our job and he was fantastic. He and his crew were very professional and just a pleasure to work with. The quality of his work was awesome and we were very impresses. Raymond took great care with the stain to make sure everything was perfect. This is not a project for the weak of heart as the process takes a while. First day they prepare the area by completely covering everything and hanging plastic to protect your home from the process and believe it or not it takes most of the day. Everything that they can take with them that day, they will. Things like doors and drawers will be taken back to be sanded and refinished at their shop. What is left in your home will be sanded and restained there.....of course. Raymond took care to protect our floors and walls and allow us some space to get through the work area. Over the next 4 days they run through the different stages of cleaning, sanding and staining. Then there is drying and waiting!. Seriously, I understand why the process takes time....because they do a great job!. I'll post some pictures below. Our cabinets were a natural birch and we had them done in mahogonay. Still need to update the lighting in the kitchen so the pictures are not the best. But you can surely get the idea! If you need your cabinests restained, call Andrew's and make sure you get Raymond for your job!

The experience was good. They do quality work so you should not expect an unreasonably short period of time for completion. As I recall they indicated that it would take approximately 2-3 weeks on my chair and they completed the work in that time frame.
Description of Work: I reupholstered an antique chair. I needed material to cover the chair and they had a wide range of fabric to choose from at various price points. Once a fabric was selected the designer called and comfirmed the cost of the material along with the labor. The work in done inhouse in the shop on the back of the store. The time of completion was accurate and I was happy with the quality of the work. As I recall you put 50% down and pay the balance on completion.

We visited their showroom, talked to a decorator who helped us select fabric and determine the best approach to getting the chairs restored. The office staff was very accommodating, friendly and the price was fair. The chairs were promised in 2-3 weeks. We got the chairs back in 3 weeks. When we picked up the chairs they were awesome. They literally looked like new. They are used in our home at the breakfast table and get quite a bit of wear. The decorator was very helpful in helping us select fabric that would handle the were. We were very pleased with the job abd would not hesitate to recommend them to others.

It was great and they were super responsive to what I wanted. The pieces came back in better shape than they started in. The dining room set originally belonged to my grandmother and my mother can't remember her mother's house without it. My mother also noted that the pieces were antiques when my grandmother bought them. They look better than new but the character of the pieces remain.
Description of Work: Andrew's Refinishing was supposed to refinish my antique dining room table, buffet, and china cabinet from a light honey color to a dark mahogany color. They took a spare leaf from the table and stained it the color that I had indicated. The color was spot on and I asked them to go ahead and stain the rest of the pieces.

Believe it or not, the guy who is refinishing our kitchen cabinets (another Angie's List find) was the one who led me to Andrews Refinishing! He said 'they're the best', and he was right. They picked up our pieces on time, and it was several weeks before they were finished. We also ordered glass tops for each piece and for another piece which did not need refinishing, as well as their recommended polish for furniture. When they were delivered, they looked 'showroom new'. The furniture was absolutely beautiful. I expected some glass cut in the shape of the furniture surface---but what we received was glass exactly finished to the irregular edges of the furniture, and both the top and the bottom of the glass were rounded and polished to avoid any hard edges. I have never seen glass cut this way, and I will never use anything else after this. The delivery people were polite, and set up the furniture exactly as I wanted it. They even spent the time with us to trace two other templates for other pieces of furniture so we could put glass on them! I will never use anyone else for refinishing. I heartily recommend Andrews Refinishing without reservation.

Once again, Andrew's professional staff was great! I have two more pieces that need to be refinished/repaired and will definately have them do the job.
Description of Work: Having had a recent fabulous experience with Andrew's, I dropped off a lawyer's case and a tall table that looked like junk furniture. I gave the Andrew's team carte blanche to make the pieces look alive. Previously, the case was a light, pealing oak-ish finish. What I got was a dark finish that caught me off guard. However, refinishing this piece to its original state would not have done it justice. Now, the family collectibles can be shown with pride. The tall table was also a frightful sight. When Kimberly called me a few days later to let me know the piece was a wine cabinet with a missing door I was shocked. Adding a door to the piece would restore it to the original look. Much to my surprise, an age appropriate key hole with skeletan key were added, too. Giving these professionals carte blanche to determine the finish of these pieces was a large step of faith. Although shocked at first with the finished product, they coordinate well with my furniture and previous pieces.

The job was done on time, with no damage to my carpet, which is really appreciate. They were also accommodating to my scheduling requests, which were tight. The stain was great. However, we have some finish issues with the polyurethane. The first coat was a bit thick, with some drips. The second coat (and sanding) helped, but we are still left with some new and old spots that I am not completely satisfied with. That being said, this is nothing I can't fix with a long day of work (basically a thorough French polish). So, overall, it is complete, the wood is protected, and any imperfections can be fixed, but it needs a bit more "editing" than I would expect.

Response from Andrew's Refinishing LLC
We do not like to hear about any job that our customer is not 100% satisfied and we stand behind all of our work. It is our responsibility to make sure that our work is up to the Andrew's Refinishing standard. I did not hear about the minor imperfections until reading it on Angie's list and have since called the member to go back out and correct any problems that she might have with the stairs. Again we strive to always have a 100% satisfaction rating and will always be around to resolve anything that might come up. President Simon Telfer

We visited the shop on Parker Road (unannounced) before talking to them about our specific needs and were happily shown around the facility. We saw both work in progress and more than two dozen finished pieces awaiting delivery or pick up. We then discussed our table/chairs need and were given a "rough estimate" (they had not yet seen the pieces). We left the shop without committing to the work. The next day we called to set up a delivery pick up time which was scheduled for about 24 hours later (pick up and delivery has a small fee attached). The two young men who picked up the furniture were careful, considerate, polite, and took great care of the furniture. Once the furniture arrived at Andrew's shop, I received a call from Simon (dept head) to discuss exactly what we wanted. He listened closely, offered opinions when asked, and was a complete professional. I asked about backlog and probable time to completion and was told the backlog was only a couple days and the work could probably take about two weeks assuming they ran into no difficulties. Approximately two weeks later, I called the shop because I wanted to stop by to see the progress to date and make certain that work was progressing as planned. Simon told me they had just finished the work the day before and it could be ready for delivery the next day. We arranged a time for delivery and they arrived on time. The delivery crew was extremely careful moving in the table and chairs and they set everything up quickly and without nicking walls or scratches on anything. They were knowledgeable enough to answer "future care" questions about cleaning and waxing, etc. We have used the table nightly for the past week and love it. The finish is excellent and we have not found anything not to our liking. They did an outstanding job. The only caveat I have is that this is a first class firm doing a first class job and they expect a first class price in return. It is not an inexpensive proposition so be prepared. In our case we strongly believe that the price was fair in return for the excellent work and professionalism shown.
Description of Work: We recently received a solid mahogany dining table and eight chairs, all more than 150 yrs old, which had, for the last 20 yrs, been subjected to sun exposure. The wood was badly bleached. Simon and his team picked up the furniture, stripped all wood surfaces down to bare wood, then matched the original stain from the unbleached extension leaves, and refinished the table and chairs to their original condition. About half of the chairs also required "tightening and regluing" and are now solid pieces. They delivered the furniture, set it up in the dining room and cleaned and dusted everything. It looks just as we had hoped.
