Thank you so much for your kind review of the work I was able to do in your home. It was challenging in a few ways but I think it worked out very well. I really like the selections of your finish materials and colors. The soapstone counter tops is especially my favorite. It was a pleasure working with you and I really appreciate the confidence you had to let me work my craft in a positive and uplifting environment. That is when I am free to do my best work. I look forward to other projects in the future.

I had been dreaming of a kitchen remodel for fifteen years. Calvin, with Harbor Renovation made my dreams come true! Truthfully it was more than I dreamed because he had ideas that I hadn't dreamed of. Calvin guided me through the decision process with colors and styles and I couldn't be happier! Because he does so many remodels, he has seen a lot of obstacles and challenges, and could found a solution to any problem. At least three other people looked at my kitchen to give me a bid and explain their service. Calvin was the only one who did all the work, start to finish, includingpatching my hard wood floor. I'm sure this made the finish work more precise because there were no other workers to blame anything on. Harbor Renovation is a full service company completing every aspect of the job, not just parts and pieces. Calvin came every single day, and worked a full day, sometimes longer in order to finish a particular job. It was clear that he took great satisfaction and pride in his work. I quickly learned that I could trust Calvin and would leave my home for hours without any concerns. The finish project was beautiful and of highest quality! I couldn't be happier!

Calvin was professional and courteous through the entire process from bidding the job to completion. He kept me informed as he worked the project which included any problems or additional costs, his schedule (arrival and departure), home owner provided materials and upgrades and a timeline of when things would be done. He was meticulous about his work and the quality of the tile work in the shower and the backsplashes around the vanity and Jacuzzi tub is evidence of that. However, not all of the 12x24 inch floor tiles laid flat on the floor and that created an uneven look. But he did replace a number of tiles that were obviously skewed, at my request. The master bath is gorgeous and we are very pleased. Thanks Calvin.
Description of Work: Calvin did our master bathroom remodel. The shower drain developed a leak and damaged the ceiling of the kitchen below the bathroom. He removed the old shower assembly, flooring, and tile on the vanity and around the Jacuzzi tub. He replaced the shower drain and installed new backer board, new shower pan, new ceiling light/fan/heater, new toilet, new window and tiled the shower walls and installed new shower plumbing and hardware. He installed new tile flooring and new tile around the Jacuzzi. Another contractor installed a granite counter top and Calvin finished the plumbing and tile backslash on the vanity and Jacuzzi. Also, he repaired the kitchen ceiling and textured it to match.

Calvin Paulsen did an excellent job of renovating three bathrooms and updating a basement family room and a hallway by installing tile flooring. In addition, he removed an old brick fireplace of that jutted out into the basement family room and the living/dining area on the first floor. All the demolition included removal of all material and installation of new materials where needed. Much of the work was done working long distance from owner and Calvin sent almost daily text messages or e-mails with photos to keep owner aware of progress. Issues were communicated and discussed as needed and solutions arrived at between owner and Calvin. Calvin does almost all the work on his own and only uses additional help as needed for demoliton or moving materials. This allowed him to be in control of the work from start to finish. At the completion of all the work, a few minor details required Calvin to return-which he did to immediately take care of the issues. The owner felt Calvin was professional, trustworthy, and did excellent work, and work hire him again.
Description of Work: Remodeled three bathrooms, tiled showers and tub surrounds, installed tile flooring in bathrooms and a basement. Removed an old brick fireplace surround from a basement floor and the living room, and installed a gas burning fireplace in livingroom. The entire renovation took approximately six months.

Calvin came on the appointed day and the ripout of the kitchen was done by mid afternoon The area was cleaned up everyday so we did not have to worry about falling over items if we had to go thru the kitchen. We were also warned that there would be a lot of dust. Barriers were placed at the kitchen door leading to the living room and another was attempted at the entrance but dust came and came. Calvin advised us to cover as much as possible and thank heavens I did or otherwise I would be still cleaning up dust from every nook. The work continued for approximately four (4) weeks. Calvin discuss what he would be doing on a daily basis. He listened to our concerns and request and took action that would accomplish the idea we had for the kitchen. He managed to add things after some of the work had already been completed, i.e. adding an additional switch for the pendant lights over the island, adding additional electrical outlets on the island, etc. When he put in the tile floors he cut the tile for the kickboard that went around the kitchen, matching it to fit the height of the cabinets so it looked seamless and very professional. Throughout the project Calvin was truly a pleasure to work with. He was open to changes and handled the "wrinkles" that come with any project. He was easy to work with and that was one of the things I appreciated the most. He listened and provided me with a kitchen I could enjoy and work in. From our first meeting with Calvin, we found that he was willing to "work out of the box". He knew we had a plan and he wanted to be able to complete our vision. Even thou he had to do some extra work he did not increase our cost. We were working on a very strict budget and we really had to watch every penny and Calvin helped us stay within budget. The only person who went over budget was me when it came to purchasing the appliances for the kitchen. I cannot tell you how impressed I have been by the workmanship Calvin has provided. I would recommend Harbor Renovations to all my family and friends. He has the qualities one wants in someone who is remodeling part of one's home ~ honesty, professionalism, knowledge, experience, punctuality, hard working, and dynamic enough to handle all the wrinkles that come along with such a large project!
Description of Work: We contacted Calvin to do a complete remodel on our kitchen. The house was build in 1963 and the kitchen had never been remodeled. We had sofitts and wanted those removed to add height to the kitchen. We had the old style plaster walls and Calvin had to adjust for that issue. All the old cabinets were torn out. The lighting fixture was ancient and that was removed and the hole patched. The fan in the eating area was removed and not replaced. The kitchen was dark and 19 recessed lights were added. In addition two mini pendants were added over the island and one placed over the sink area. A window was replaced in the kitchen several years ago and it was not trimmed out properly at that time and it was a mess so this was repaired and is now back to function as a window. The slider was removed and replaced with French doors. A doggy door was placed in the brick wall that was in close proximity to the kennel that was going to be placed under the island. A desk/cabinet area was added in the area by the slider. He placed the electrical outlets for the computer and phone under desk top so that all the hook ups could be reached easily. The area above the desk had cabinets added for my cookbooks and other kitchen stuff. An island was build that could house a dog kennel and provide seating for two. Calvin installed the new dishwasher, range, hood and refrig with a water supply. He vented the range hood thru the roof providing us with good ventilation. He installed new porcelain flooring, subway tile with an accent strip on the area under the cabinet and along the area above the floor cabinets. The subway tile was placed up the back of the range to the ceiling. He elevated the cabinet to a height that was workable for us. He had to make adjustments for the appliances because they were the standard height. He enlarged our kitchen door that goes into the garage and installed a fire door for our protection. The locks in the doors were matched so that there would only be one key for entrance thru the French doors and the garage door. He worked with the granite installers to make sure the adjustment for the stove was accommodated due to increase in the height of the cabinets..

We hired Calvin for a master bathroom renovation. First of all he was very knowledgeable & honest when we had him out to bid on the project. He noticed things other contractors didn?t & he gave a good explanation of some of the snags we may hit with changing the layout of the bathroom. He provided a very clear estimate & excellent guidance and advice on purchasing fixtures. Throughout the project Calvin was professional, friendly and above all easy to work with! He is always prompt with his communications and provides accurate estimates of how longs things will take him. The quality of his work was fantastic; I am especially amazed at his tile work around my tub. This was my first renovation experience and it went so smoothly that I am eager to hire Calvin for my next project.

Calvin was always punctual, professional, and careful in his work. He came up with some good ideas on how to lay out the tile that we hadn't thought of - and it turned out fantastic! While he was there, Calvin also did a couple of handy-man type jobs for us, including fixing a broken sink drain stopper and insulating the pipes in the garage. Everything went smoothly and we couldn't be happier with the results. Thanks Calvin :)

Everything went great. Calvin was always there when he said he would be. He worked almost non stop from start to finish of the project with the only delays being waiting for third party materials, ie. countertops, to arrive. Even that was speedy. When you work with Harbor Renovation you will find that you get from them a sense of honesty, timeliness, and a genuine openess to your concerns and questions. I think you'll find that Calvin's expectations as to the quality of the finished product might even exceed your own.
Description of Work: We had a fairly large kitchen remodeled. New hardwood floor, cabinets, and counter tops. All the old stuff removed and/or demoslished. We also had some new lights put in, some old ones moved, new sink and dishwasher installed, new trim and molding around window and along bottom of wall, tile installed under some appliances, and a tile backsplash. Other than a couple of appliances we kept, the entire kitchen is new.

I contacted AngiesList about a Big Deal for 5999.00 that had just expired. They advised me nicely that I could contact Calvin Paulsen directly and ask about it. So, he came and made a proposal along the Big Deal. I wanted to save from demolition the cast iron tub and the vanity cabinet but would follow along with what he proposed on his Big Deal. I love and preferred to design and buy the toilet, faucets, countertop and sink, glass shower doors and accessories, tiles, etc., etc. myself and he would supply the basic stuff for construction, also included the vent in it, with the project. He also added some freebies, i.e., installed hooks, bars. He started the job as scheduled. He was punctual, courteous and professional and did the job from beginning to end w/out having to run to another simultaneous job like others would, which could be aggravating. Well, I was truly impressed with his work ethic, working through the winter storm, road problems and power outtages to get the job done. He seals everything and workmanship is great. .Of course, I upgraded on the items I was budgeted for, so it cost me more than expected from the Big Deal budget in spite of the tedious task of finding the best prices everywhere, but I was happy This extra/guest bathroom is small but has pizzazz and class and my critics, AKA grown kids who visit, give it a thumbs up. I am proud of it and so, should Calvin, for the fabulous result. No reservations about recommending him.

AMAZING!!!! Calvin and I spoke on the phone on a Thursday evening about removing my old worn-out shower and replacing it with a whirlpool tub and tiling the tub area. He showed up the following Monday and by Saturday morning, the job was completed! The results are absolutely amazing! Calvin is awesome to work with! He assisted me in selecting materials that were relatively inexpensive but made the bathroom look wonderful. The tub and surrounding tile are beautiful, functional, and more than I could have dreamed of a mere 9 days ago! I will definitely be calling Calvin for all of my home upgrade/remodeling needs.

My total was about $13000.00. He charged me $7000.00 for the work and I went and selected the fixtures so I could control those costs. That was one of the reasons I hired him from the people I interviewed. I was impressed by his attention to detail and his reliability. He came on time everyday and he stayed from nine to five and worked every day until the job was done, not weekends of course but he came Monday to Friday. He cleaned up after himself and he hauled away the garbage. When a problem developed once we opened the wall up and found some mold, he took care of that. There was a little extra charge for that, but it was extra work so that was fine. I bought two boxes of the wrong tile and I mixed up some tiles. They weren’t the same color, but they were close. He and I devised a little decorative pattern so that I didn't waste them and we could finish the job. I liked him very much for those reasons and because he was easy to work with too. When I made that mistake, he suggested trying something. I told him I liked his idea but I liked another idea better so we worked it out together and we were both pleased with the results. After he was finished and gone about a week, I noticed a slight drip and called him. He came back and replaced some washer that was defective in whatever equipment I had bought. He was very responsible too when I noticed the problem.
Description of Work: Harbor Renovation took out all the tiles and an old shower, repaired the wall, did the plumbing, installed new sinks, retiled the shower and retiled the floor, installed all the fixtures including the light fixtures, took down an old mirror and put up new mirrors, put towel bars, new faucets, and a new glass shower door. They also installed new cabinets.

I have worked with Harbor Renovations both professionally and as a customer. I always look forward to working with Calvin! I had an unusual request for him. I needed some custom woodwork done for a fallen Firefighter memorial. Calvin listened to me and suggested some great ideas that proved to be excellent! As a previously licensed contractor myself, I find Calvin to be very unusual. He arrives on time and rarely deviates from the project schedule. At the same time, he is open to changes and dynamic enough to deal with the wrinkles that always come along during the building process. He enjoys his work, and it shows. Calvin brings product knowledge, experience and integrity to the job with him. His pricing is remarkably fair, and he leaves behind a string of happy customers. (many of which I know personally). When I need more work done I will call Calvin at Harbor Renovations. As far as I am concerned he is the proven option for my hard earned money.
Description of Work: Three 3'x5' (jumbo!) plaques for fellow firefighters. Made with hardwood plywood, routed and trimmed edges. Raised fields under nameplates and pictures. Plexiglass coverings with decorative fasteners. Heavy duty mounting hardware. Oil finish with matte gloss coating. A real beautiful job! Everyone that sees them comments on how good they look. Calvin is not just a construction guy, he is a craftsman. He can take the project as far as the customer wants to go. His website convinced me to give him a try. I am happy that I did.

All of our projects have gone very smooth. Having Calvin in our home has been like having family there. It has been a great experience. From the start of the bidding and then the signing of the contracts to the end has been a real treat. We did not thing that there are contractors out there that are that honest and pleasent. Thank you Harbor Renovation. We will only use you from now on.
Description of Work: We had a new fireplace mantel made for our front room. This project came out better then we even could have imagined. Calvin was clean and worked very hard. Another project was the coffered cieling that we had done. This was a big job and came out perfect. Calvin had to install new lighting in the cieling too. He worked with us to get just the right look that we wanted with all the trim and how it would work. Also we had him put up a beautiful wood window valance to match the mantel. Calvin is in the process of remodeling our bathroom. Can't wait to see this project done.

Calvin quoted me about $3500. He was very thorough and on time. He pulled up in his pick-up and had his trailer behind. So, I think he was coming from another job. He came in and went through the job. He sat with me and my wife. Then he talked about the quote. It’s difficult for a contractor to pick up cabinets, sinks, fixtures and tiles. So, he said that he would have allowances in the quote for the cost of those things. He said that he wanted me to go to another store to pick up the actual stuff that I wanted. He said that I would know the true price for the total job since I had the true prices. He had estimates on what the fixtures, tiles and light fixtures maybe. It was well done. I did get other quotes as well. Calvin has e-mailed me several times to find out what the status of the job is and I have been putting off. I won’t be ready to do the work till August. I am planning to e-mail him back to tell him anytime in September. I haven’t gone down to the stores to pick up the fixtures. He gave me a very thorough quote and he had photographs. He submitted the quote. When he was finished, he mailed it back to me with the photographs, calculations and all the features that he had put in for the price that was quoted.
Description of Work: I received an estimate from Harbor Renovation probably in May. Calvin Paulsen is the owner. It was a two-part job and I wanted him to do the re-piping.

Harbor Renovations is owned by Calvin Paulsen who was not only great at keeping his word on times, dates, and information that was pertinent to my remodel but he also bid the project honestly and gave me idea's and information that would insure a great job. He went over and above what I contracted him to do. Example: My husband and I were in Oregon for my grandson"s graduation. Another company was going to re-coat our upstairs deck. I had removed 44 lag bolts and while in Oregon I realized that those holes had to be filled to be ready for the other contractor. I called Calvin and told him the problem. He said not to worry. He went to our house filled the holes in the rain and when we got home all was ready to have the other company tseal the deck. Now that's a Great guy with wonderful work ethic. He goes far beyond the is expected. I have built homes and remodeled homes over the years, and he far exceeds any sub or contractor I have ever hired.
Description of Work: Repaired all dry rot in deck sides of deck. took off house siding to have it ready for new surface. Filled 44 lg lag bolt holes. Installed two new custom doors. installed two new custom storm doors that were 3/4" too wide. He re-built the door frames to fit and saved me $1200.00 that it would have cost to re-order another two storm doors. Removed wet and rotten trim and put on new.on the sides of the on the upstairs deck. Put on new siding, once the deck was re coated and sealed. Repaired dry rot inside the house along the walls where water had gotten in by the old doors . He did many other small things that just made the job perfect. See below.

I had Harbor Renovations (Calvin Paulsen) do complete renovations to my two bathrooms. The first bathroom I had the. bathtub removed and a shower put in. There was a lot of dry rot that needed to be replaced. I picked out the colors, tiles, bathroom amenities , and he did the design himself (with a few simple question) . The second bathroom the same thing, he suggested that a wall be removed inside the bathroom ( that was no use for anything) to open the bathroom up. I went with his suggestion, what a surprise how big the bathroom turned out to be. He installed a jetted tub, with a shower . He did the design of the tiling on the walls and the floor, installed recessed lighting , heated flooring . He also replaced three windows. I am very happy with everything he has done in my house including installing tile and painting the laundry room, and replacing a hot water heater. He is 8 for 8, a very hard worker , good ideas and easy and fun to work with. I would fully recommend him.
